Hi,
yesterday I wanted to install a theme from CMUpdater (had the latest CM running) and when my G1 wanted to boot it hung up on the T-Mobile G1 screen, reacting on nothing. After like 10 minutes i took out the battery and started in recovery mode and tried to load an old backup that I made a few months ago but this didn't work. Then I just wanted to install an old CM version that was still on the SD-card, but it always says installation aborted. Same goes for data wipe or if I want to apply any other zip from sd card.
Is my phone bricked just because of that stupid theme? Can anyone help me to make it work again? There should be loads of guys that know A LOT more about custom roms etc here ^^
thanks

Wrong place, please post in the right section next time. G1 Q&A
sorry, could some admin move that thread please?
if you can get into recovery its not a brick. Can you wipe from adb? I would try wiping from adb then flash a defanged rom (the one in cyanogen's wiki) and then flash the cm rom of your choice.
throw your phone away and go buy an iphone. If you cant understand the rules of posting in a forum, dont even attempt to root your phone and attempt to do anything to it. How long did it take to find the power button? How long did it take to understand how to push it?

Ill second that one!
I've read a lot about the custom ROM's and I'm interested in installing one.
The reason I don't do it is because there isn't a detailed step by step tutorial out there.
They are all missing some steps.
So could someone write a step by step tutorial without leaving Anything out. If there's a really detailed tutorial then a lot more newbies like me will start installing custom ROM's.
So what I mean is a step by step tutorial starting from the stock android.
Is there someone willing to write it?
Thx in advance

If you have the kind of skills which require access to the dev section then it should'nt take you long to answer 10 [Q]'s....
Do not spam your way to 10 posts.....
So after hours of searching, trying different ones, this IMG WORKS!
Successfully went from 2.3.3 to 2.2.1. In case you're having root issues/etc
Turn fastboot off, place on root of SD, reboot holding volume down, let it check the IMG, select Yes, let it go...
Code:

Thanks!
Holy mother of god. Probably not the response you expected, but somehow that fixed my multi-hour, dozens of thread-reading, hundreds and hundreds of posts sorting through adb connection problem. And saved the forum from my extended explanation (and plea for help) of my romp through troubleshooting it.
Now if only I knew what went wrong in the first place...

This is just the rom.zip from the official HTC RUU available here for months:
Code:
RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed[.zip|.exe]
Great. I'm just proclaiming it works!

There's really only one method these days, the Ace hack kit by ATTN1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
After downgrade I used Bubby's method and it worked great! Easy to use too
Fastboot? root of SD? Huh??

Ok... so I'm more tech savvy than the average bear but I'm not a hacker or even a programmer. And I don't know what these terms mean!
Is there somewhere in the forum (or elsewhere) I can go to learn how to turn off fastboot and what it means to place an IMG on the root of the SD?
I am sure this is a super-noob question for this level of forum but I'm a bit lost and NEED to root my phone so I can tether it with T-Mobile service which will end up being my only internet access which I desperately need for my business. I found "bubby's" one-click method to root with this YouTube video as a walkthrough (S0sQFoS_m_8) and following a link there, I found this to downgrade my OS first.
I know it is a pain when noobs ask questions that seem to be answerable with a simple Google search but the more I search the more I go down the rabbit hole and I'm hoping someone can help me out. Thanks!
Its been a long time coming that i still cant get my G2x to connect to my computer of any computer to transfer music, pictures (anything for that matter mean no pitchfork on top left corner) and i have been trying everything but i know u guys got something for me pleaseee help . trying to root and all the good stuff to truly optimize my g2x. if u have the answer , can u please include a great root link or suggestion!
thank you.
keep in mind i knew about xda but this is a first time for me as far as asking and or even joining . guess u can say i got tired of attempting on my own.
come on guys give me something good.
Hi,
Did you download the USB drivers? if not download from here:
http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/LG-P999.jsp
Its under the "Downloads" section
For Root, i used the following links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274998
Its pretty simple, and only took me 20 minutes. At some points it may be a bit confusing but just follow the directions very closely.
So,a few days ago I decided on advice from a friend to root my phone, a Galaxy S 4G (T959) from T-Mobs I got in January. The process itself was easy and made me feel (apparently) over confident.
After doing a little reading I decided if it was that easy, I should upgrade it from 2.3.6 Gingerbread up to Ice Cream Sandwich, I mean what could possibly go wrong?
I ran into more than my fair share of glitches.
Well at some point I tried solutions for problems with ExRom 2.0
E:Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (no space left on device)
and then from code.google zip
E:signature verification failed
New ROM Data fix
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
At some point I should have stopped myself, but I kept reading tips and solutions. 9 hours of reading post on XDA and half a dozen other forums, thinking, "I used to build desktops, I'm sure I can do this myself." Trial and error, again, what could possibly go wrong?
Now 3 days later and some 35 hours of reading posts, I've managed to get my phone to a point where, no three button combo seems to bring it download mode, perhaps its actually stuck in download mode. It will only bring up "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" and an image of phone to computer when i hit any key or plug it into a USB power source (this is download mode, no?).
I'm assuming this is the everlasting reference I keep finding of "soft bricking" as I can't do much with the phone.
So, I've got Odin v1.85 and a bunch of downloads I don't think I know which are which anymore. I keep finding threads where I think, "this is it!" only to find a cold link. I've not spent the better part of 35 hours in the past three days trying to fix my phone. I'm on the road for work and the only communication tool I have is my laptop (thank goodness for this at least).
Since my brain is fried, could someone tell me is it fixable, or is it really what I think and the phone just doesn't like me anymore and wants to do nothing? Could someone point me to right files for ICS for T959 and installation instructions, or to the *correct* thread with instructions. I'm worried I followed the wrong instructions enough already. Any help would be appreciated.
Right now, any time i plug my phone in or touch a power button or any combo i get this the image of phone to computer, "Firmware encountered an issue..." Odin will give me a yellow window (0:[COM4]) so it does see it which I believe leaves me in good condition to save the phone. I can find the pit file, I just need perhaps a ROM or a tar for ICS for my T959V?
THANKS GUYS,
Regards
The image you see is download mode. Follow the guide in the second link of my signature and flash with bootloaders. You will be fixed up.
We don't have ICS yet. Only flash ROM's from this forum to your phone. And after following the guide - only flash Gingerbread based ROM's. The guide in the first link of my signature can help you with that.
P.S. I only read the first and last paragraph of your post.

Also you said that you have a SGH-T959V, so I'd stay on the T959V forums and flash nothing else from any other forum, unless of course you want an expensive paperweight.
