I think we all know the FM Radio is in there. The GSM folks patched some software to make it work. I was wondering this.
Today I went to a Verizon store to look at the Imagio. My TP2 is defective and I have a new one on the way. I was thinking of going to the Imagio, same phone, no keyboard, smaller lighter frame.
At any rate, I was really surprised to see that the Imagio had radio software installed. I tried to use it but did not have a headset.
So my question is. Can we somehow steal the software off an Imagio and distribute it? Since it is available for the Imagion/ CDMA can we download it from Verizon or HTC? Just wondering if there is a way to make this work on the TP2. I feel cheated by Verizon.....
I dont see why it wouldn't work. The Imagio has pretty much the same hardware specs as the Touch Pro 2 minus the keyboard. Allthough the Imagio runs WM6.5 stock. Don't know if that will make any difference. Maybe someone here could copy out the necessary files and post them here? No harm in trying.
I'm pretty sure that the CDMA phones do not have the hardware to support the FM radio. Only the GSM phones have it.

its not that the hardware is not present, but I believe its somehow not connected physically/blocked i can get it to attempt to tune and for split seconds it seems like I can hear audio at times. but im gessing this will just be the same deal as the TP1 and the diamond. it worked on the diamond just fine but not the TP.

Broadcom's BCM2075 Extends Combo Chip Portfolio Delivering Simultaneous Operation of Bluetooth®, GPS and FM Radio in a Single System-on-a-Chip Solution
The highly integrated BCM2075 is a cost effective solution for portable devices, such as mobile handsets, portable media players (PMPs) and personal navigation devices (PNDs), that wish to integrate four key radio technologies (Bluetooth, GPS and FM receive and transmit). In conjunction with its unique InConcert® collaborative co-existence technology, the BCM2075 allows these radios to operate simultaneously, and with minimal interference, providing a compelling user experience. Supported by Broadcom's World Wide Reference Network (WWRN) for accurate indoor and outdoor positioning, the BCM2075 enables advanced LBS, regardless of user location.
The Bluetooth core is architected for high functionality and low power requirements and features the on-board multimedia processing to enable MP3 and other features in more affordable handsets. The chip's FM receiver features superior tuning and station search functions for worldwide frequency bands while the FM transmitter supports programmable output power and a sophisticated algorithm that recommends the best transmit frequency for broadcast to car radios or home FM receivers.
By providing market proven implementations of all these technologies on a single combo device that saves power and size, Broadcom seeks to help drive these adoption rates in next generation handset products.

Two different chipsets there. IF it does have it, which chipset is it? The 2075 or the 4325? And IF it does have either one of those, I wouldn't put it past the US carriers, especially VZW. Typical for them to block features on a handset. If the hardware is there, why wouldn't they at least implement some form of software, or driver to make use of it? Isn't that why they tossed said chip into the device in the first place? If it causes any issues, they could always put some sort of on/off control, like they do for data/wifi connections.
I'm going to search around a little more. See what I can't dig up.
omg, wow. I should have noticed that part... (I don't sleep much)
Anyhow the 4325 is in the FCC pics so I'm assuming it's that chip.

Ok so this is not the only phone that I can see that is wireless everything but does not support A2DP so you can listen to the mp3 player wirelessly??? I have seen that some have updated other units (MDAIII) to use a BT stack from broadcom and I was wondering if it is possible to do it on the sp5? I am guessing that using the broadcom stack does not require BT 1.2 but I am not sure what stack the sp5 is using and where I would get the updates. I am also reading that most that have done an update have mention static if they move around?? Why then would you need BT if you cannot move?? Is this then the V1.1 causing the problem and why it should be on 1.2?? :?
More info
Ok so I have asked the question about the sp5 & sp5m about A2DP so you can use stereo bluetooth headphones that include player controls and I found some answers.
A2DP only fully works on Bluetooth V1.2 and these units only V1.1. I have seen that some people have installed some third party BT stacks on there BT V1.1 units to get high quality stereo profiles but they do not have player control. Also it may not even be A2DP it may just be a facsimile but more interesting it may be A2DP. When looking at the specs of phones it says Bluetooth V1.1 but does not say which silicon (Chip) is in the unit which is very important because the chips are backwards compatible. Meaning it may be V1.1 but the chip maybe able to run V1.2 because the manufacture just put in V1.1 stack and rom. So we should all be not asking about new stacks and upgrades but first ask which chip is in the units and if it is a V1.2 compatible, then we should start demanding rom and stack upgrades now. As for the chips the V1.2 and more chips have been out for at least 2 years so the manufactures cannot say the release of them postdated their own development date unless they have been hand building the units for the last year and that gave them one year to test.
Well can someone please tell me which or who’s BT chip is in the sp5 and sp5m
You will also find that Microsoft have not written support for this yet into the OS
Funny about the support because for what i know HP ipaq work just fine on A2DP along with other MS units so sombody must be supporting the headphones because there are sure alot of them coming out in the next few months.
HP probably wrote their own drivers.
The chipset should be BT 1.2, and just needs a ROM update
I combed through the TI website, and all the BT chipsets that are used with the OMAP 850 chip(in the Tornado devices, like imate SP5M, etc) are showing BT 1.2 as their spec. I don't know why it's not included, but I know that MS has promised to but out a A2DP update in Spring 2006, so maybe we will see a ROM update from i-Mate/HTC, etc at some point. I know that it is possible, or someone could build/hack their own stack. It least we know it is possible, hardware wise.

I2S/AC97 Enhanced Audio Controller (for Voice) and a UART (serial) for data.

I'm afraid that a 200MHz CPU will not be fast enough to support A2DP.
I'm using A2DP on my XDAII, it REALLY slow down the entire system. That's one with 400MHz CPU! not to mention a 200MHz.
where'd you get a2dp for xda2? been searching the site and the internet for this...

My XDA II is using 1.62c.07CHS of WM5, which seems to have A2DP built in, even not necessary to install any BT Addon.
You can find more information here: http://www.buzzdev.net/

ok, do you know where I can get the 1.62c rom in ENGLISH?
some news on qtek rom with a2dp and push email. looks like it may come in feb. if anybody has qtek membership could they check for details.

I have a T-mobile MDA using the Qtek Test Rom and i use the plantronics Pulsar headset audio quality sounds better than an ipod. I can hear deep bass. I think it is just stupid that HTC hasn't been putting A2DP on the AKU 2.0 update stating it slows the phone way down, etc. I use A2DP while at the gym so, i am not needing to write an email while using it. Well I guess to each there own.
I've got the Qtek Wizard test rom and use it to listen to music on my martian-looking Pulsar 590s, and it slows the bam thing to a crawl. Can't really do anything at the same time.
Bummer really, cos it's not that slow a CPU, just damn sh1t-slow software...

Well... I believe there is some kind of data compression mechanism in A2DP protocal. The problem is, maybe some devices have hardware (chip) to do the compression, and some devices let CPU do the job. And I think our Tornado would leave this nasty job to CPU, so it can slow down the phone a lot: COME ON! It's realtime data compression! This job is not suitable for a 200MHz CPU! It's cruelty to CPU....
No, I haven’t messed up the numbers: there were models in the h5600. It’s just that they have been cancelled by HP (see for example this article).
There, however, are still floating devices around (see for example this eBay auction); I’ve also been offered one, which, being a die-hard gadget freak & collector, I'm really interested in. However, it just doesn’t see either the Wi-Fi, the BT or the phone unit at all – in Wireless Control, not even the icons of the first two show up as can be seen in here and enabling the phone results in a “a wireless radio must be attached to use the phone” message as can be seen in here.
The ROM version in the device I’ve been offered is 0.81.13 ENG, dated 08/13/02 (that is, pretty early, taken into account that it was only later that the first rumors on the h5600 series surfaced) as can be seen in here; the device has the GSM module, which has the version WGM_1310something as can be seen in here.
Therefore, if anyone has a h561x or a h565x, please PLEASE let me know I’d be REALLY grateful for any kind of help or information on this device. You’ll get LOADS of greetings and thanks in any “retro review”-kind of article I may publish on this rarity.
I’d really want to have this prototype as a working device in my huge collection of old PDA’s, but would not prefer paying big bucks for it if it is almost completely useless (currently, it is – it’s PPC2k2-based, which means almost no support for any recently released Pocket PC application or game and doesn't support any wireless either).
BTW, the device is legal, even if it’s just a beta one - also see the comments here.
(BTW, don’t be afraid: I’m OK, the reason for my not having published really big articles for a month is that I’ve had a lot of work and the current article I’ve been working on for three weeks also needed a LOT of work and research. However, I really think it was worth the time and effort – it’ll be THE definitive article on everything Pocket PC – to – desktop PC control and will contain a lot of not-just-Pocket-PC-related information on remote controlling issues in general. That is, it’ll be worth reading for anyone that is interested in remote desktop protocols in general, not only Pocket PC users.)
I know that this post is damn old, but I just got such device from my friend. It's incomplete (he taken LCD to his 5450 and never ever tried to boot this), but I'm trying to complete it and got running.
PCB version is 0.5, there's a sticker on case with brief specification, including Proc: Cotulla B1 (so PXA250 @ 400MHz) RF: GSM, SD: Infenion (yes, Infenion, should be Infineon ) and SW Ver: 0.62.28... so much older than this on Yours photos.
GSM is Infineon WGM1310_v03. Ram 64MB (2x Infineon HYB25L246160AC-8), Rom 32MB (2x 128J3AMQG14). Motherboard is almost identical to h54xx photos i got from internet.
Photos, if anyone interested:

to
http://kitor.dynalias.com/ipaq/DSC_4322.JPG
they are huge (10mpx, ~5mb per file) and i have slow upload (256kbit) so be patient...
Basically, it looks that the mainboard was shared with all models prom h5xxx series, only difference was in used RF module and software.
My ipaq h5550 arrived, so i used parts from it to complete h5610. Seems to work, has got 0.81.13 ENG rom (so probably the latest developement rom made for it), and the same issues - wireless radio not attached. Only difference is that I got it only when I try to open Phone settings, dialing just give me "failed" message.
Wireless led is blinking after enabling WAN, but after a few seconds wan icon goes red (disabled), although led is still blinking.
I'll try to dig up rom/registry, but for now I'm playing with h5550, seems that after year wth Andorid i lost how WM looks
That is classic.. Should put it somewhere so that the future generation can see how much improvement of phone have gone thru..

I was wrong, it has got 0.81.16 rom dated 08/16/02

so rom version is made from rom date... only three days difference
on label there are 0.62.28 (so 6/28) and 0.60.10 - but the latest one doesn't stick to my theory about rom dates
Just fund this thread here as I was looking to finally get my hands on a (partly) working h5600 series device.
If one of you wants to sell his device: Contact me
BTW looking also for Motorola MPx300 and MPx100 (which also was never released).
In 2003 I spoke to a HP person who told me that the h5600 series was cancelled because they never made the devices work. Later over at brighthand someone from HP said they had cancelled the h5600 series, because customers would prefer 2 devices connected via bluetooth.
Honestly I guess they cancelled development as the concept was way too tricky:
Years ago there was an h5600 device for sale on ebay. The seller offered various modules for wireless connectivity. It was planned to have one for mobile connectivity (gsm or cdma) and another one for wifi. Don't know what was planned for bluetooth!? Anyway, these modules should be swapped by the user depending on what he needs. Therefore there was an additional cover on top of the backside (over the battery).
So, if one wants to sell an h5600: Contact me!!
Well, three-four years ago there was seller on allegro.pl (polish equivalent of ebay) who had a lot of those devices. But I'm almost sure that they were bought for parts to repair official ones. They were also a few mpx300 but since then, i newer saw them again.
About modules - you may look at my photo. There's small PCB with RF module, on 5550 eg. it has WiFi and BT (but when I applied this to 5610, nothing happend - no drivers in 2k2 PE rom).

Hi, i am new here thefore i cant post in "One S Android Development"
I KNOW that (HTC one s)Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 has support for GLONASS. can it be unlock ?
anyone known what soundchip it got onboard also ?
Appreciate the help.
Are you sure it needs unlocking? Mine said on the box "Supports GPS/GLONASS". Not that I have any idea how to check.
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA
Download GPS test from the market.
Fire it up and see if you log any satellites numbered 65 to 88.

My Htc one s, havnt arrive yet, i still waiting, i think it would come next week, then i can do the gps testing. It would be nice to hav a good gps.
I am using Samsung galaxy s1 and its worthless in sweden..
Btw i hope Snapdragon s4 get Wolfson audio chips
My HOS IS showing satelites number 69 and 71... are those GLONASS sats
Out of 15 satellites that I could see, 6 were #65 or over. Looks like GLONASS is working fine.
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm in Japan, but my phone came from the UK so is the European model (No One S for the poor Japanese, lol)
So it works completely transparently to the user and does not need special software or adjustments, it will just work by "supplementing" the accuracy reported through the GPS interface and therefore also every navigation software etc. will automatically benefit from it?
That is kinda cool if its the case.
This is going to be GREAT for once i can use "GPS" correctly in sweden, anyone knowns more about the Sound chips onboard the S4 ?

Yup, looks like it. There is no separate setting to "Enable GPS" / "Enable GLONASS". Although rather than being transparent to the user, it is more like hidden from the user. I guess the average user neither knows nor cares about GLONASS, as long as the thing shows them where they are on the map.
I do not get satellites > 28, but total 22 visible and 14 in use.
Don't know if GPS or GLONASS - but 22 are a lot
My HOS consistently sees ~17-21 even when indoors although while indoors I get no GPS lock even though GPS Test says that it uses ~5 satelites. But once I take it to a window it gets a good lock immediatly.
My old Desire and my TF101 only sees ~4-5 when doing the same test. So it seems that the HOS really are using GLONASS too.
Yes they do. With GPS only I never had a situation where I could "see" more than 6-8 sats at once with a mobile and not all of them had a fix/lock because the signal was too weak (only once supposedly had 9, reported by an Audi in-car satnav with dedicated external antenna, but I am not sure if that was fixed sats or just the visible ones). I think as of now I think there are less than 30 functional sats in orbit globally and the GPS architecture hovers around an amount of 32-36 sats maximum (with higher coverage of landmasses and lower coverage on the oceans).
Also, GLONASS will be very beneficial to anyone in the upper northern hemispere, and lower southern hemispheres as the system is of course globally active, but due to sat orbit inclination and distance (orbit heigth) it allows a better coverage of the regions closer to the polar regions, while GPS seem to be more designed to cover the "middle ground" and also have a lower orbit.
And when the US went to war in the middle east, I think I have read about some of the satellites being repositioned to give a better signal feed to the troops and equipment in that area, therefore automatically neglecting the rest of the world a little bit.
This is a really good feature I did not even read about in the reviews prior to purchasing. I pity the folks with the One X who don't have that... It will double satnav usability and accuracy even in less than optimal conditions (cities with high buildings covering satellite line of sight etc.)
1) It could actually be hardware.
On my i9000 the rubber connector between the case and the board had failed. Trying to solder a spring onto it appeared to burn out the chip completely.
Try another device in the same place. Looking at my Nexus I see a spring connection to the back case for some kind of ariel. Not sure if it's for the GPS. Q: Can we connect an external GPS antenna to help test this variable? Most people have tested this by breaking the connection between the mainboard and the antenna. It's a slow process unfortunately.
i9000 hardware GPS problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697217
Nexus S 4G CDMA (i9020a) link to same problem
Page 5 has links to internal diagrams and mention of NFC antenna getting magnetised affecting compass.
2) No GPS in the sky (or not enough of them). Go as far North as Northern Norway or Alaska and you can have troubles.
Try another device in the same area. Cloud cover will degrade the signal, so will trees. Q: Better way to test without standing out in the rain?
3) AGPS cache has crap in it.
Do a AGPS reset.
4) AGPS server connectivity. Could be a GPRS problem. Could be WiFi problem. Could be at the server. Check what server you're using to see if you can contact it from the phone. Q: Is ping a good way to check?
5) EPO server fails. Perhaps md5sum is broken:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975500
YGPS and the engineering menu on mtk65** phones is very useful. EPO downloads a map of where satelites are expected to be so the GPS then know exactly what to expect. The list is updated once per day. Q: I'm only aware of this on Mediatek phones?
6) GPS works better when moving.
If you have
### ROOTED SAMSUNG GT-I9100/GT-I9100T/GT-I9100G/SGH-I777 or GALAXY NEXUS DEVICE REQUIRED ###
Try: GPS Control SiRF
^ We need a better version of this app to work with more phones.
7) Some radios are better than others. This is where it gets difficult. Is there a single phone out there with open source GPS drivers? (not geeksphone afaik). The GPS code AFAIK is in the modem image, totally closed. Perhaps there's a way to generate a GPS signal to test with?
- If the worse comes to the worst you can always buy a Bluetooth GPS module to lug around and use that. I didn't have success with Cyanogenmod's built in external GPS in the settings so I used "Bluetooth GPS" on one phone and "Blue GPS" on another.
- I've heard GPS doctor (aids?) is a good app but expensive so not much use for diagnosing different phones all day. This XTRA download thing I don't fully understand.
- finally, do you know of a recent small screen phone with a good & reliable GPS?
update:
I will update this post as I find info along the way.
Basically what appears to be a big source of difficulty diagnosing errors is that there is no way to isolate the ariel as a problem. The Android API doesn't include access that low level.
from:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4250434/how-can-i-get-the-gps-raw-data-satellites-pseudo-range
Code:
Satellites pseudo-ranges are not available in the official API, neither through the GpsStatus.Listener nor the GpsStatus.NMEAListener interfaces.
The only available info available in the GpsSatellite class are:
PRN
azimuth
elevation
C/N0
a "usedInFix" boolean.
The Android source code asks just those fields from the native code, so no hope to get it from any other Java API.
The best way for you to get this data anyway (which is not suitable for a Market-able application) would be to explore Android source code, and either find a native hook to get the data at low level and access through JNI, or recompile the full OS modifying the API to your needs (you also need to find the relevant native code for that).
Finally, if you can get the chipset to send you GRS NMEA sentences (you would get them through the standard NMEAListener interface, the difficulty is configuring the chipset to send them) you can then compute the pseudo-ranges (those sentences contain satellites' residuals)
Good luck and let me know if you try any of these ideas!
update 2:
The connector on phona mainboards (assuming you have one) is "UFL". The connector on some GPS external ariels is MMCX. The bigger connectors are SMA. If you want to connect a external GPS antenna for testing without soldering you probably need a UFL to MMCX pigtail.
Plugging in UFL connected external ariels may help with diag for the various radios.
I have only 2 satelites seen on mine. I've bent the print connector up to touch the ariel a little harder but still it's a bad connection (presumably). I am thinking of ordering:
http://www.hwkitchen.com/products/mini-gps-antenna-embedded-ufl/
just to test it and confirm.
I'm guessing a magnetized NFC ariel wouldn't cause this. Removing the back (which has the NFC Ariel is) hasn't helped anyway even though the magnetometer does respond to taking the back off.
"file create fail" is what I get in trying to run the antenna test with LBSTestMode.
This hardware fix doesn't seem to be intended for the 4G but I tried it anyway:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...llly-fix-nexus-s-gps-hardware-mod-needed.html

Is there a better way to test? I'd like to see the raw data that the GPS is getting from satellites too see how it is caluculating the position but I don't think that's possible.
To help you with testing Droid VNC Server can be useful - you can then connect to your phone when it's outside over wifi while you sit in the warm. But be careful because if your wifi connection breaks I notice it then starts listening on your 3G/4G connection, open to the world.
Likewise adb screen monitor over wifi is a security risk too.
Generally the first thing to try is to clear the agps cache using gps status and then redownload it and leave it with a view of the clear sky for 20mins.

Vendor Specs:
Vendor Site:
XTRONS Website
Experience:
My Car:
KIA Ceed 2008
Installation:
Installation was pretty easy. Once I got rid of the middle console and removed the old Radio, the installation was easy. Stuff all the adapters (WIFI, 3G, GPS) where it makes sense and fix the Radio. You need a 2DIN Install-Cage for your Car, so get that ahead of time. I won't go deeper into the installation, there are numerous "how-to"s that do this way better than I can
Getting Started:
After the installation, the unit gives you no basic steps like you would assume from Android (the timezone, user, mail stuff). General Language is set to English, the Keyboard has an additional Asian keyboard as well so set this to your desired language asap. The unit is fast, the UI is well thought out for Car use. CD play and DVD (region 2, Europe) was no problem and also fast. I added another Bluetooth Adapter because the onboard bluetooth has the known limitations for this kind of head units (only phone connection) and I want to use my Bluetooth ODB2 Adapter.
Until now, I have only positive things to say about this unit. I had a China-Unit before, which broke down after a year of usage and where the hardware quality just wasn't good (wobbly buttons, display kept getting pushed in because it was not mounted correctly and so on). This has a good hardware quality (until now )
Over the next few days, I will configure the Bluetooth stuff and I will see how well configurable the hardware buttons are (for example: Start Spotify instead of the music app when I press on Music and so on).
If you also Plan to get an Android Unit and don't want to wait for Android Auto (and the fact that all units will start at around 1000 € probably ), this may be your unit.
They ship from the UK (even have a warehouse in Germany, where I come from) so if you are in Europe, you don't have to worry about taxes and so on. Also, shipping was very fast (like.. Amazon fast).
Please tell me your experience with this device
Additional pictures:
Spyware?
I have installed this unit this past weekend and I really like it. I have a question though about the possibility of having pre-installed spyware from the chinese on these android devices. How would I go about detecting the possibility that there is something lurking somewhere?

Hi, could you make a photo of your Settings->About screen? Would be curious about the system version and the MCU Version you have.
Does the radio already play when booting up or do you have to wait until the boot is completed?
Thanks!

I have the same unit and have been running it for a few weeks. I really like this head Unit and would very much like to root it as it does NOT come rooted. I would like a "safe" way to gain root access.

You asked for the Settings/About screen for this unit (TD-626A) didn't you?
Of course, you are right. Thanks for the pics
I read somewhere you wanted to root the unit, that's why I provided you the link to the huifei forum.
Have fun with your xtrons!
