How to unlock 3g on a quadband Raphael. - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I'm In India,
I got a Raphael this particular one :HTC Raphael
It has a Qualcomm® MSM7206A™ 528 MHz
with the latest stock radio : 1.13.25.24
And a custom ROM.
Now my problem is at the time i bought this there was no 3g in my country.
Now a few carriers provide 3g.
I can't access 3g.
I want to know if there is any way to access 3g by installing a PROGRAM or a ROM or a particular RADIO.
P.S: it doesn't matter if i can't make video calls(as no secondary camera) i would just like to access 3g network.
Please help needed and much appreciated.
PLEASE HELP
Thank you so much.
please help needed ( ihave searched all the fourms but haven't really found a solution, i have PMed many developers they don't respond. Please don't close this thread--> to mods. This is really important.

the raphael can handle 3g no problem. it's up to your service provider to give you access to 3g...

Try just going into the Comm Manager and enabling 3G and see if it connects.

My raphael is not unlocked or maybe doesn't have the chipset to recieve the 3g network please see my link !
I'm asking if there is any way that i can unlock the settings !
It is nothing to do with operator or comm manage.
Please understand the problem.
The problem is the chipset/processor not the Software or the operator
anyways thanks
PLease post if any solution...

When i first bought my TP, i used my old sim card (from my BA) which was only supporting 2G..so i had to go to the operator to ask for a new sim card that support 3G! once i got the new sim card i could get into 3G no problme....
check your sim card if it support 3G
also check the network setting on your phone (start->setting->phone->band and then make sure to select auto or WCDMA)
hope this helps

Hey GUys please GO TO THE LINK I PROVIDED In the first post all this is not the problem the probles is the 706A processor provided by HTC which doesn't allow the phone to recieve signals beyond the 1900 band and the 3g signals are at 2100 band range !
And most of the Raphaels which have 3g have the 701A processors not 706A
I was just wondering if some senior member / chef / developer / a friend could help me.......
And tell if flashing a radio are a program will help this situation
Trust me it has nothing to do with operator, SIM , Comm manager !
Thank you all !
Please help if anyone....

actually... 3g operates not only on the 2100 band but also the 1900 and 850 band. It is up to your provider to allow you to use 3g. When I went back to thailand, the phone company I used "locked" 3g and my phone would complain that i could not connect to 3g.. until I called the phone company and I went through a series of instructions that "unlocks" my number to allow 3g.
You need to do a little more research on your question before you go ahead and tell everyone they're wrong. Trust me, providers can prevent you from using 3g capabilities.
The radio only helps transmit the information. some work better than other, but they do not prevent you from using a specific radio. Processors also do not matter since it is more related to the processing speed of the phone, not its ability to handle networks.
check this link to see that the touchpro is indeed, 3g ready, all versions of it that I know of. http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_touch_pro-2413.php

Sir with all due respect and without being rude to you i have to tell you to READ THIS LINK BEFORE POSTING :HERE
And please note the network part and the part which says the processor :Qualcomm® MSM7206A™ 528 MHz :this processor is the processor which does not allow me to recieve the 3g signals.
And in my country my operator does not have 3g yet but would launch in december. I traveled to 3 countries in last 1 year and tried to connect 3g (with stock radio and rom and failed)
I respect you but i have to say you are "Wrong"
thank you
and please refer to the link.
And i have done all the research i could possibly do before posting a thread.
Thank you ( no offense meant)

ok. you are right. In this case, there is nothing you can do since it is the chipset itself. It is not meant to do 3g and it probably will not do 3g unless you go in and try to mess with the bios itself. That would most probably brick your phone. So to answer your question, no it's not possible unless you want to risk bricking your phone.
the only thing i can say is that it sucks that you bought the version that couldn't do 3g, but there is probably not a way to change that.

It looks like it can not do 3G at all. Interesting, I didn't know they made Raphaels without 3G. It probably doesn't have any hardware to do 3G, just like the european ones don't have the hardware to do 850MHz and 1900MHz 3G used in the U.S.

yeah. I thought all touch pro phones are 3g enabled. Well I would have to admittedly say that it really reeks to have a 3g capable phone forced at only 2g through hardware limitations.

guys 3g can be possible
if ppl here check this prior link http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_touch_pro-2413.php
it will show that the release date is june 08 so it means that the company at that time had 3g capabilities in the tp well i am from india mumbai and am using mtnl as a network provider well i had 3g enabled on my sim card 3g did not work on my tp but it did work on my friends nokia phone so the question of sim card not supporting 3g does not arise also asfaik it has something to do with the radio especially the protocol version which should end in something that is not 'G' so i want ppl who are reading this to post some of their radio of links which points to a radio ...

And guys it sucks that HTC dared to do this cheapstake thing !
Anyways my bad luck I'll change now only after 2 years so no 3g......
But on the optimistic side i love every other part of the phone specially the way flashing can be done like no other phone !
Its great !
3g would have been an icing on the cake though !
but HTC sucks with that !

sorry francis. As I have realized later in this thread, based on the OP's phone spec, his/her phone is quite literally incapable of doing 3g because it does not have the hardware capability to utilize it.
sim cards, as far as i know does not do anything with which band you can use, it simply holds information like contact list and your phone number ID. Radio also does not matter as i have stated in an earlier post. Radios are like channels on a wireless router, it can send the same signals, it just depends on which channel works best with the majority of computers in the place.

just for your information even Francis has the same set of TP with the same processor (706A) and hence he has the smae problem/ bad luck !
And we both need the same solution ( IF ANY AT ALL.........)
Thank you.

yes i realized that I misread the post and misunderstood your original problem. But in this case it seems like a hardware limitation. something you can't solve with software changes. Although I'll have to admit that there is a chance that a bios flash might do something. but you will probably run a massive risk of bricking your phone permanently and I highly doubt it is worth the risk.
Hopefully one of the mods here would know if there is a way around this. good luck

HTC Pro 3G connection problems

I may get flamed for this but I did try and search the WIKI and the Raphael forum. I just purchased an HTC Touch Pro as someone threw me in a pool with my Kaiser still attached to me. I got it through Expansys which I believe is a company in the UK. When I turned it on I saw I was only getting the EDGE network. After doing some research now I see that I may have messed up and I may not be able to connect to the 3G network here in North America. Is this true? Can someone PLEASE confirm this for me? Is there a new ROM I can install or a radio upgrade that will allow this phone to connect to AT&T's service here in the US? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. This phone is badass and is a huge improvement on the Kaiser. I'd love to get it to work, but the internet speed is the most important thing to me as I'm a systems engineer and tether with it almost daily for work. I hope someone can give me a definitive answer on whether or not I should send this beauty back. Thanks ahead of time for any input whatsoever!
definitive answer: NO
no 3g in USA on at&t or t-mobile
only way is to wait for the FUZE
htc said its not software its hardware!
sorry i know it sux but if u can return it and wait for the fuze, go ahead!
Aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!
That suuuuuucks! Well, thanks for your quick reply. I guess I'm going to have to see what I can do about returning this thing. Any idea what the ETA on the Fuze is?
Once again, I really appreciate your help. I've been slammed here at work so I haven't had a chance to do the research that I would normally do. I especially appreciate your definitive answer
The Fuze should be released in the next few weeks. The exact date is not known. But by the end of November is almost a guarantee.
Thanks to all!!!
Thanks again. I guess I'll wait for the Fuze. From the pics it looks like they did the same thing as with the Kaiser and removed the front camera for video phone. I guess AT&T is worried about bandwidth issues if everyone starts making video calls. Funny thing is, most people here in North America believe very strongly that we are the most technologically advanced country in the world, yet we can't seem to even compete with other countries, including third world countries like South Africa, on many things including cell phones and reception.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420865
check this thread, complete coverage of the issue...
All post from viper are particulary informative. Still a little bit of hope...
Well AT&T isn't even setup to handle video calls (afaik), so I don't think it's something they're "worried" about.
Awesome labbbby!
Don't know why I couldn't find that thread earlier. It's exactly what I was looking for. I guess I'll wait a liiiiiittle bit. I don't want to part with this thing. Besides, I'm addicted to that damn teeter game.

So you spend God-knows-how-much on a device without researching it well enough in the first place. Wow.
Well unlocked GSM Touch Pros use 3G on the 2100mhz freq (European) and U.S 3G is on the 850/1900mhz freq (T-mobile chose the 1700mhz route..don't ask why).
Send it back and wait for the U.S version which is branded through ATT as the Fuze.
I should have said, "almost all input is welcome"

I know I said I welcome ANY input. I didn't really expect the sarcasm though. I'm in the middle of moving our offices and being that I'm the IT director it's pretty demanding. I have owned the 8125 (Wizard), the 8525 (Hermes), and the 8925 (Kaiser) before this one. When my Kaiser got ruined I was forced to replace it ASAP because I need instant email/contacts/calendar, tethering, and I use it as my GPS. I figured instead of shelling out $400-$500 for a new Kaiser quickly, I may as well add a couple hundred more and get an upgrade. My mistake I guess. Normally I'm more careful but under these circumstances I didn't have the luxury. I guess thanks for the input anyway. Next time try and be a little nicer to strangers.
Interesting change
While looking at what exactly I had purchased from Expansys I saw that they touted the phone as being, "Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (Band frequency and data speed are operator dependent)". This would lead me to believe that it should be able to connect to the AT&T network here as it says it can connect to the 850/1900MHz frequency. I also looked underneath the battery to see the exact model and it's a RAPH100. I could swear I saw somewhere that this is the new North American version. I'm doing some more research and I'll post whatever I find in case it helps someone else in the future with my issue.
Sorry but almost all of us have the RAPH100 and we're all stuck with an almost useless g-note phone. It was an expensive lesson that may be salvageable if a radio antenna mod gets discovered and if not... it'll make a great paperweight.
I'm looking forward to the X1 or X1a or X1i or whatever they call it today.
Dammit
Well, I guess my ray of hope is now crushed. I can't wait around for a mod. I'm going to continue trying to send it back. I can't believe that they would say it connects to that frequency and not actually work. That's terrible. It reminds me of the whole problem with the missing drivers on the Kaiser. Time for another htclassaction.org website.

Expansys have quoted correctly. GSM, GPRS and EDGE are all supported at these frequencies, but none of those technologies are 3G
Good luck getting a refund - it's not the retailers fault you didn't understand what you were buying

Maybe they shouldn't sell a 3G phone in the US that doesn't do 3G. It's kind of hard in today's world to be up on every single kind of technology so one expects a company to list major issues such as this. I apologize that I'm not as knowledgeable as you about phone frequencies and protocols. I do know that there are a lot of other technical fields that I'm very knowledgeable about and would definitely try and give someone help without trying to put them down or make them look stupid because they didn't understand something that is not part of their expertise.

Any way to enable 3G on the Touch Pro from India?

Hi everyone,
This is my first post here after joining this forum. I recently bought an HTC Touch Pro in India after alot of review. Sadly after buying the unit I realized HTC decided not to include 3G in the Indian version. I bought it blindly thinking they wouldn't be any discrepancy in the TP review units on sites such as gsmarena and infosync world but the TP box proved otherwise.
Now I study in the US and was hoping to use the 3G connection offered by T-mobile otherwise i'll resort to EDGE. My question is whether or not my TP actually has a 3G chipset which is disabled by HTC and can be enabled somehow or have they not installed one?
Thank you
3g
you could unlock the spl and install a custom rom (or a htc WWE stock rom). After installing the custom rom if ur phone has the 3g chip it will start working. Mostly the network and 3g are part of a single chip. So most probably 3g will start working after installing the custom rom. good luck.

Do you have a HTC Touch Pro aka Raphael that comes from Europe? If so, no 3G as of yet. Actually, right now only way you'll get 3G is with the Fuze.
I ask because I am not familiar with India's phone infrastructure, providers, etc
Now some background of what's going on so you'll know if and why you won't have 3G:
HTC touch pro specs
Notice that HSDPA is only available on these frequencies:
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
For AT&T 3G frequencies are 850/1900 and for T-Mobile, I read they use 1700 and 2100mhz but I suggest you look around a bit more.
Finally, here'es THE thread about enabling the missing bands(frequencies) on the Touch Pro, some people are still working on it, progress has been made, but so far, no 3G in North America.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420865
Ps.: Flashing to a new ROM is still a good idea, some of the ROMs in this forum will give a vert healthy performance boost to your phone!
I suggest you read this forum for a few days and especially this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
and get comfortable with the concepts, it's really easy and simple once you understand the basics.
Enjoy!
Hi labbby!
Thanks for the reply and info. I'm not sure if my TP came from europe not or. Just says tri-band on mine. Apart from that I'll look into flashing my ROM.
Thanks again!

AT&T users check out post "How to turn off 3G"

This rom is totally different from the UK version which I have on my D2. Notice the option to use 3G 1900/850. Does this mean the D2 has a way to access those bands in the US already in the hardware??
Wow, good eye. I switched it (WWE edition rom) to the 1900+850 one but no 3G icon for me. I know it is finnicky in my area so possibly it might work. If it does then I might not sell it after all.
please 3g.......
I know! That is exactly what I am thinking. If there is a way to turn on those bands I will hold on to this one for a bit longer. There is a chance they are different like with the X1a and X1i, but I really hope not. Once we get HardSpl I want to get my hands on that Rom.
I saw those bands. I went to AT&T store and tried a card from an employee there. NO 3G. The bands being in there do make me wonder if 3G will work but all say it is Hardware related and not Software. That is true but the Radio could have those bands but they are just disabled. Was this not the case for the diamond or something and HTC had on the website a ROM to make it QuadBand rather than triband. How it originally shipped?
The other discussion is here.

[Q] question about sd card slot and 3g (not 4g)

hello all
about sd card slot, as i see in forum, it's not usable yet. why? that is a lack of hardware and will be usable after 4g upgrade? or it's just a software issue and can be used with hacking android?
and another question, the 4g will be available after hardware upgrade. how about 3g? is hardware needed for 3g , 2g (gprs) installed on device? i mean is it possible to use 3g with hacking software or it's lack of hardware
thanks in advance

4G is a pure hardware issue. Hardware changes need to be made, that is why the 4G upgrade, when it happens, will require the Xoom's to be brought into service centers. Nothing you do to the software can add 4G.
As for 3G, it is also a hardware question. If you bought a 3G Xoom, you have the proper hardware for 3G...if you bought a WiFi Xoom, you do not. No hacking possible or required.
If you want 3G and bought a WiFi Xoom there is a very easy fix however. Put the WiFi version on Ebay or give it to someone, and go buy a 3G model.
Quick and easy, all fixes should be like that.

Then I would suggest checking with your carrier.
Im from iran. Here we have not 3g carrier yet. Both operators here are 2g network. The carrier i use, the network is EDGE, cannot i use mysim card for gprs internet? Just like gprs in htc.
And also in setting, mobile network, i see an activation. What is that? I didnt activated yet. Is it activation for verizon carrier just in us?
For using other carrier device should be unlocked like God dang iphone or ... ?
stock browser
Also another question. I installed a few browsers but the best browser is the stock. The only problem with it is typing, for example just now, i'm wroting this o xoom but writting speed on stock browser is very very slow
What is the problem? Is there any solution? Or any better browser?
also i forgot to say that my rom is stock rom and not rooted yet

Typing lag is a known issue on the Xoom. Are you running 3.0.1 or 3.1? Most people say it improves with 3.1. YOu can also try rooting and installing one of the custom kernels with overclocking, either Tiamat or Launchpad. The Tiamat kernel cleared it up for me, even with moderate overclocking (1200 on mine, usually).
Lots of guides here to help you upgrade, root or install either kernel.

I can't say for sure, as I have a WiFI only model. Likely the Activation option is relevant for Verizon only, but put the SIM card in and choose the option, see what happens. I would assume that if your SIM card is legit, then it should work on the Xoom, but this is unknown territory for me.
Anyone using a 3G Xoom with gprs?
i use my sim card with my htc hd2 (android), i'm using gprs a lot on it
and how about sd card slot, the reason it doesnt work is lack of hardware or can be done with software hacking?

The lack of an SD card is a software issue. Use the Tiamat or Launchpad custom kernels to enable it.

[Completed] Noob in need of radio/modem flashing information

Hello,
I recently purchased a note 5 duos SM-N9208 from Taiwan. I was led to believe that the device was unlocked GSM, but had EV-DO capabilities. My understanding was that this would work on Verizon's network, because it had both radio chips inside. I was told by Verizon that "there is no approved way" for them to get me up and running on their network. The tech made a point of saying there is a difference between approved, and no way. This leads me to believe that something can be done. I'm wondering if someone would be kind enough to help me out. Phone is running original Rom, unrooted, and is basically useless to me right now, as I'm desperately clinging on to my unlimited data with Verizon. Is it possible to root the device, and flash the modem with Verizon note 5 baseband info? Any help anyone can offer would be very much appreciated.

Hello,
I recently purchased a note 5 duos SM-N9208 from Taiwan. Hi, and welcome to XDA!
When I looked up the specs on the Note 5 Duos, unfortunately it says nothing about CDMA. Having both "radio chips inside" can be taken two ways, in this case, this phone has the capability to handle two GSM carriers (and in this case, like most dual-sim phones, only the first SIM can do 3G/4G/LTE speeds).
Network Technology GSM / HSPA / LTE
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands LTE
Speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE
GPRS Yes
EDGE Yes

It seems the only option (if you want to use this phone), is to join a GSM carrier like AT&T, T-Mobile, or one of their MVNO's (like MetroPCS).
Hope this helps.

Thank you, Joel! I'm excited to learn as much as possible from tgis forum. I actually changed over to T-Mobile, and have been good for the most part. The problem i'm having now is related to finding a way to flash the radio to all of their Rf's. I rooted, and attempted to flash the modem and bootloader from N920T, but it failed. I am still having a hard timr understanding why the identical hardware will not accept firmware from different model numbers. Again, very inexperienced, so it may be something very obvious i dont know about. If could offer any assistance, or provide and thread links that may be useful, i wpuld very grateful. Ive been searching nonstop, reading, and still cant seem to find a way.

Well, the hardware (particularly the modem) is not compatible, hance the failed install. You are lucky it cancelled out as you could have had worse problems on your hands.
The way i see it, you will have to wait for other regions for the Note 5 Duos to open up before you get flashing options. I would even question the need for that, if you get a decent range of bands with T-Mo (I am assuming you can get 4G).
If you want to explore further anyway, please check out this thread:

It did, thank you! I get decent service (including LTE) almost everywhere. Problem is, once I get to my.house, I go completely out of service. No call.I no text. It wouldn't be a big deal, but the Taiwanese phone doesn't have a way to turn WiFi calling.

Aha. That and no sign of the 700mHz band (which may not be part of your phone anyway, not just hidden by the current firmware).
Since the firmware would need deep support of Wifi Calling (or VoLTE), as in more than just an App, I am afraid you will have to wait until the Duos releases into an area with that support in their firmware (and hope that, that area's firmware doesn't disable a frequency you use).
Makes scraping all the lead paint[*] off the house the more manageable task, doesn't it?
[*] I really don't know if your house does indeed have lead paint. I am assuming it's coated in something metal, or concrete, which avoids typically high frequency radio waves from entering. I never had that problem with my house (which may be strange, since it was built in the 40's), but maybe creating ways to boost the existing signal may be in order instead.
