For those who have modified their own kernels, how long does it take for a newly installed system to boot up? Why is the first-time boot always the longest? What influences this first-time boot period? How can it be sped up?
The first boot boots up the "android.process.acore" that is the reason why its taking so long.

How long does this usually take? 30 minutes? 1 hr? I am trying to cook my own kernel but I don't know how long to wait before I consider my efforts a failure and to try again.
Thanks.

I boot directly into recovery mode every time I shut down and or cold boot my phone. I'm not too sure why, but if I can get help on how to get a log that will show if and or why it is happening, thank you.
into boostrap recovery? mine does that too. i never thought anything of it, just hit reboot system now and it boots like normal. slightly annoying but no big deal i dont think.

Yes, into bootstrap recovery. It sometimes boots when I plug it into charge after a complete shutdown. True, it's just an extra step, I guess it's good in a way. Haven't figured out how, but just a wild guess. Thank you for the reply botnryan
botnryan, how did you get your phone to boot into bootstrap after looping?

im guessing youre talking about when i pretty much bricked it after applying a theme? Well, i had it on (looping) and pulled the battery and immediately reinserted it. you shouldnt have to hold down the power button for it to come back on, and it SHOULD boot into bootstrap recovery. Now the 2nd time i bricked my first d2g, this didnt work, therefore i couldnt fix it. Hopefully it works for you. Try plugging it in to charge and then pulling/reinserting the battery too.

This is a safety feature so if you've messed up your phone but not too bad you can get into recovery and fix your mistake.

How do you wipe bootstrapper recovery? In case I ever have to return my GF's D2G I would like to get it back to stock before I take it in.
Hello everyone!
I have been using the AOKP ROM for quite a while now, and yesterday I had quite an issue:
I was simply writing on Whatsapp and using Maps, when suddenly the device froze and rebooted. Then, it loaded up to the bootscreen, only to reboot once again and get stuck in a black screen.
Afterwards, a few times it managed to load up to the homescreen, but it rebooted again after a few seconds.
I got it to Recovery mode, but whenever I tried to make a backup, it died halfway the process. That's why I didn't try to flash anything, while being so unstable.
At the moment, it seems totally dead. No bootloader, no charging, and of course, no startup.
I'm thinking of hardware failure, but maybe one of you might have another solution, or something I can try. You'll have my gratitude if you can lend me a hand with this.
Thanks a lot for reading!
i hope it will help you but give them a try
charge the device without battery, sim and sdcard for 5-6 hours
then put them again and switch on the device
if that fails then do the unbricking project
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522351
otherwise maybe it is a hardware issue

Charge WITHOUT battery? That's... weird. But whatever, I have nothing to lose.
I tried the unbricking project, but the brickdetect.sh script didn't pick up anything. I guess that's because the guide is intended for S-ON...
I'll try the first option for now. Thanks a lot!
Hello,
I recently (about 20 mins ago) installed Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 in my HTC Desire S following a guide (which I can't post because I'm a new user...)
I finally managed to root my phone (after spending the whole day searching and testing..)
I installed the ROM step by step, and at the end it says "Please note that this can take up to five minutes on the first time booting a new ROM"... The thing is when I first booted the phone I had the CyanogenMod logo loading forever..
I can't do anything and the battery will be empty soon and I don't know what will happend then...
Thanks for your time...

Try to flash the boot.img of your ROM via fastboot and see if your device boots again.

hi there,
I'm running CM11 nightly late feb. For no apparent reason my phone went into a boot loop this morning (n.b. I didn't flash a new rom or installed a new app). Now it constantly reboots (literally) and doesn't get further than the CM11 boot video or google logo.
If I press volume down and power, it will head into bootloader - but - I can't navigate beyond 'shut down' or 'restart bootloader'. It doesn't execute two consecutive volume up or down commands. In other words, it's impossible to get into recovery mode. Also, because my phone doesn't boot further than the video or logo, I can't make a fastboot or adb connection via my laptop.
Does anybody know how I can fix this issue? I'm clearly running out of luck. Many thx in advance!
reflash recovery?
Try to boot into recovery with cmd: fastboot boot TWRP.img (TWRP or your current custom recovery)
Then restore a nandroid backup or wipe data/system/dalvik
You can still flash the factory images. Fastboot mode is enough. Guide

Stuck power button. Mash the power button really fast for 20 seconds to unstick whatever is in there.

can't flash anything, because phone is constantly rebooting. Have opened up the phone and took the battery out for 1 minute. Didn't help either. After starting up the phone I get stuck in the boot loop again.
Anyone else an idea?

The phone doesn't reboot in the bootloader right?
If it doesn't either do what primokorn said or flash the factory image.

Well the issue is that it only stays for a fraction of a second in bootloader, which gives it enough time to navigate one step up or down. Not enough time to get into recovery.
How can I do what Primoken said? It doesn't seem to be possible to do a flash when the phone is constantly rebooting?
Thx for helping me out guys, much appreciated!

Have you ever kept your phone in narrow pocket? Because it's definitely sounds to me like a stuck power button.

It's not a power issue. Also unscrewed my phone to see if that was what caused it. Nothing in there, mechanism functioned correctly.
UPDATE: For some reason my phone booted up out of nothing. I managed to flash an older ROM via CM Updater (through settings)- which seemed to work. Apps were updated and it was running normally. But after a couple of minutes it restarted out of the blue and now back to square one again.
Guess there's a chance I'll probably get a normal start up soon. Is it a good idea to do a factory whipe restart through the settings menu? Or is Primokorn's method safer?

Just boot phone into Download mode and flash a stock rom, this normally fixes most problems.
