My wife's cell phone was stolen on Saturday night. I reported it stolen on Sunday at about noon. Since Monday was a holiday I waited until Tuesday to replace it. Got the phone and activated that same day.
Now the weird stuff... on Wednesday, after my wife had added about 10 contacts on Tuesday, she noticed an additional 9 contacts (names and phone numbers) in her contacts. One is even labeled "Mom"!
Does anybody know how this can happen? Btw, we kept the same number that she had before and I asked several Sprint people if this would be a problem and they all assured me that it would not be a problem.
I am about to report this to the police. Seems like it would be an easy case for them if they just follow up on some of the numbers listed. The phone was stolen at a wedding so the list of suspects is limited.
Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated. I worry more for the data on the phone than the actual value of it (Sprint Samsung Instinct).
Thanks,
tsp

I have been trying for 3 weeks to get a replacement for my phone since the GPS doesn't lock or loses signal every 2 minutes while driving (I need gps for my job). And now data has been cutting out every so often even in great service areas.
So 3 weeks ago I went to a local store to get the phone replaced thinking I had 14 days from when I received the phone. Nope they tell me its when they shipped it, never mind that it took 6 days for the phone to arrive. The store tried to replace the phone with a new one anyway after I told them how long it took to ship but said they would have to knock me off unlimited to do so and there is no stock refurbs available so come back in a week.
Later I call customer service and get the same answer and they tell they will call me back. After calling in 3 times with no returned calls, the 4th guy finally called me back today, but said there is no white ones in stock do I want a blue. I tell him no and he says wait until next week for him to call me back.
something seems wrong with this.... is there any recourse? Can I escalate the case somewhere?! Doesn't seem like most people have an issue getting a replacement. what's going on

They're just being assholes to you.
Have you contacted Samsung to see what they can offer you?
I got the same story regarding the 14 days from "date of shipment" when I asked for a replacement. When I pressed further (I was seriously considering ATT at this point) he came back and said the "system" allowed me to get a new one - whatever that means.
At least you found a rep that agreed to get you a new one. Hopefully it only takes a week - make sure they note their agreement to get you a replacement in the notes. They will honor promises made in the notes by a previous rep.
It kinda sounds like you gave them the impression that you did something wrong to it and that you need to buy another replacement. If it doesn't work correctly, they just mail you a replacement as long as you're in the warranty period which is a year I think. I was six months into a phone, had similar issues as you, went to vzw store, they confirmed and shipped me a replacement the next day. Why the heck are they even bringing up your data plan/contract? That has nothing to do with a replacement phone at all. Almost sounds like they're trying to 14 day "swap" rather than warranty "replace".

I bought my 8X on Nov. 30th 2012, and immediately after purchasing noticed the camera would not autofocus. Out of fear of looking like a dumbass, I figured I was doing something wrong and didn't get an exchange at that point. The problem kind of took a back seat in my mind until Christmas day when I wanted to take some pictures...
By this time the phone was past the 14 day return policy, so I had to send the phone in for repair. On new years eve, I took it to my carrier who sent it to an HTC repair center. It returned to the store on January 15th. The good news is the camera was working, the bad news is that something was now wrong with the cellular radio.. I couldn't get on the network, and the network selection menu only showed one carrier (not mine) as on option. So I sent it back for a second time. It returned to the store on January 28th, they claimed the mainboard and sim tray had been replaced, but the same issue with service still existed! However this time, I could get connected to the Bell network for about 30 seconds before it returned to the same issue of just showing one carrier. I was furious and argued with my carrier for a good hour over what could be done. In the end, it was sent away again.
To say the least, I'm doubtful that it will be working when it comes back this time. Should I contact HTC directly and see if it can be shipped elsewhere? I'm sure where it's going (some place in Markham, Ontario) is a crappy third-party authorized HTC service centre.
Any advice is welcomed at this point. And oh HTC, this is the first and last device I will buy from you. Sorry bro.:good:
On my 3rd RMA..
Phone#1 (I paid $250 for from ATT&T store, WITH 2 year contact):
• Couldn't call contacts, no caller id, no mail launching, live tiles froze, no text messages, no Bluetooth syncing on my car, had to reformat and filter contacts.
• Bluetooth does not read texts on car anymore
• Bluetooth does not work with calls until I call back or use speaker phone
• Battery was 100% at night and phone was dead at 0% by morning
• Fully charged phone lasts under a day with little use
Phone #2 (first RMA): The one after that had a HUGE eraser type mark on the screen from something. Returned
Phone #3 (second RMA): The phone I have currently.
STILL HAVE ISSUES: My mic sucks and people say it sounds like im in a tunnel. Speaker phone is slightly better.... POS...
ATT&T told me to call HTC and try to beg for a new phone instead of these RMA POS
Anyone else having problems with sending and receiving calls on their S3 in areas where they should be having no problems?
I got my phone at launch and it seemed to work fine, I noticed the connection issues after a couple of weeks and figured they would be fixed with software updates as time progressed.
But it's been over 6 months and I'm really growing tired of having to resend texts 5 times and never receiving calls. My phone shows I have 2 bars of 4G yet when my family calls me from the front door of our house (which is 12 feet away from my room) I get nothing. The only reason I know this is because I have the google voice chrome plugin that tells me when I have messages or missed calls to my google voice number, but since I have my voicemail synced up with gv it tells me when I have missed calls regardless of it being to my actual cell number or my gv number. If it wasn't for that I would never know that I missed calls all the time. And I only know I miss texts because my girlfriend gets pissed at me all the time because she thinks I'm ignoring her when I don't reply to texts I'm suppose to receive but never do.
So I've been living with this annoying problem for a while now and I thought maybe it was just my room that had bad reception but I remembered that my previous phone (HTC Droid Incredible) never had this problem. So I tried out my parent's feature phones (LG env 2 and 3) and they didn't have any problems while I replicated the same situations. Their old inferior phones worked better than the nice premium one I paid extra for. Ain't that some bs?
And now I go to a different school that has terrible reception in all the buildings I have classes in. So I always turn on airplane mode and enable power saving to make sure my phone doesn't die by the end of the day. But the other day I asked this random girl sitting by me in the first floor of the student union if her galaxy s3 was getting signal and she said "No, this phone sucks in this building". I asked what service she had and she said Sprint. I didn't know if I should have felt content knowing I wasn't the only one or mad that this phone might have an antenna problem. BUT just yesterday I was in the same student union, in the lower floor this time, and I asked this guy from my class if his data was working on his phone and he said "Yeah I'm downloading a picture right now.", to which I replied back with which service? He said "Verizon", what phone? "Motorola Razer something". At that point I got so frustrated that I felt like throwing my phone.
I mean the phone itself is great, I love using it and taking pictures with it, although lately I've been getting "camera failed" errors a lot. It's just really annoying that it doesn't serve its most basic functions when I need them to work.
So I'm asking if anyone else has been experiencing similar issues and what they did about it? I would have called Verizon sooner but since I'm an added line on our family's plan they only want to talk to my dad. He and I have different schedules so it's always a pain to try and coordinate.
I had similar issues with by i535.
Except the issues appeared the 1st day I got my device, and I was highly po'd to say the least, considering I left sprint the same day because I couldn't complete a call for months. Troubleshot with Verizon tech as is the protocol prior to replacement, and saw the device was faulty. Not communicating with the Towers. Device issue possibly regarding the antenna, but uncertain.
Anyway, I got a new replacement a few months ago, and all has been well.
The cause of your issues may be the same, except yours were delayed in appearing. Hard to tell.
Yeah, I'm hoping to try and get a replacement soon. I'm just scared I'll get a refurbished one that has the same issues.
Not really a question, more of a statement....
So, my Pixel arrived today from Verizon.... Cool, lots to play with before I am basically locked up away from home the next two days.
Open the box, nice phone, start it up, did a factory refresh (do this every time now for all new phones), and then inserted the SIM and started it up again...
The Phone Activation for the phone doesn't work. Thought at first, it was due to low signal, it not very strong where I live but never been a problem before... still nothing.
Call the 800 number it shows... talk to the rep and there is something weird, the IMEI and ICCID numbers are not in their database... how that happen?
Rep finally says I can take the phone in to a store and they will fix it (Can't do that today) or they can fill out paperwork to get it corrected. 12-24 hours.
Hmmm.... really no choice as I will have no access at all tomorrow and friday so I have to wait.
Hard to fathom that a phone from Verizon shipped to me from them is not properly setup in their database. Still using my Nexus 5X for phone but have the Pixel all setup ready to go when it activates. Just can't use it as a phone yet.
Finally, it activated. BTW, really like the phone a lot.
Well this turned out to be just a waste of time.
A day or two later the phone would only get 1xRTT and no celluar data. No calls in, no calls out... This was the day before Xmas. So the day after they had one on hold for me since stores were running out of stock. I went into the store they insisted I change the SIM card first and it seemed to work,
But when I got home it started to do the same thing. Other phones didn't have any issues there.
Naturally, the phone on hold was now gone. Told they would ship out a replacement... Nothing... checked almost daily and they said they were waiting for phones.
This morning, I was told it would not ship until the 20th of this month which would be almost a full month since I got the phone.
I canceled the order.
Within the past 2 weeks my phone had been dropping calls or not being able to receive calls at all sometimes. Let me try to explain. Sometimes when I try to make a call my service will cut out and say "out of service area" and not but 5 seconds later it will show I have service again. I can send text messages surf the web anything but make phone calls. At&t doesn't believe that it's on their end. Whats going on??
You are not alone, I have similar problem. I went to Sumsang center in Bestbuy last weekend, the Sumsang guy there told me he loses DATA randomly too, he knew at least 3 people having the same issue since last OTA. And they are all AT&T users, all S8+ phone, the Samsung guy told me they already know this situation and investigating it, hopefully they will push another update soon.
For now, I reboot my phone every morning before I leave my house.

It's very frustrating. I've talked to samsung on the phone and they told me I could send my phone in and have it tested but I feel like it won't do anything. And they would send me a refurbished phone back not a brand new one like the one I purchased. I drop connection all the time during calls, when I try to make calls it doesn't matter. The people at at&t are no help.
Add me to it. And to me it is an intermittent problem. It does not happen all the time. I am on Sprint, and I have the phone unlocked through Sprint since I paid it off. Not sure if unlock changed anything.
Anyone got the problem sorted out?
S8 plus out of service area
Hi.
I also have the same problem and this is not a software problem this is hardware problem you need to change the boot.
Theirs no other way
I had a similar issue. My phone showed I had network coverage but I kept missing calls. My provider sends a text message on missed call. I would call my number, phone would not show anything and i'd get a missed call sms.
I took it to the local samsung authorized service, they replaced the motherboard, the display and battery on warranty. Basically I have a new phone now and it works.
