Palm Treo 500 - Need a working radio ROM - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

Hello,
I'm actually using a Palm Treo 500 with a faulty radio ROM, which is hanging after few hours if 3G network is activated. As soon as I force it on the GSM network only, it becomes very stable. But for a 3G smartphone ... it's a little bit anoying :-(
I've flashed it with WM 6.1 Rose ROM from Caramba_sda. This ROM is very fast but as it doesn't include a Radio ROM, it has not solved this specific problem. The phone still hangs after few hours on the 3G network.
Is anybody able to provide a fully working radio ROM for the Treo 500 ?
Thanks in advance.

Advice sought... my VIII is now GSM only

hi -
the problems: since flashing 2 weeks ago my vario III only works for voice and data in gsm only mode - with 3G enabled i generally can't make or receive a call or connect to data, but the device . Everything works when i switch to GSM only...
The complications/wierdness: straight after flashing a new rom or radio i have sometimes been able to get the device to connect to 3G or make a call - but this usually only last for one session or so.
What i've done: i've installed just about every combination of ROM and Radio i can find - including all of the 6.1 radios with Dutty's 6.1, the "official" vodafone 6.1 rom, alex's, schaps, and i've tried going back to 6.0 roms and the 1.27.12.32 and .11 radios but still the same
what is the verdict? bricked? or am i missing something....

I don't think it's bricked.. if it was bricked your device wouldn't even turn on.
Did you hard reset after each flash?
Was it working before your original flash?
answers to both: yes
- working fine before i flashed it
- I've been obeying Dutty's rebooting advice - how could I ignore instruction given in bold AND capitals?
I'm having the same problems. Thinking of putting origional ROM with radio back on and removing hardspl and returning under warrenty but cant find origional splash screen anywhere! Help would be appreciated
had the same problem with my tilt...changed sim card ...different roms ...radios ...basically everthing i could do....but in the end called at&t and they sent me a replacement...goodluck
I had a similiar situation but with my GPS.
The Tilt I bought just 1 month ago was a GPS Champ, always acquired a lock quick. I had flashed XDA-Live v1.5 right over the at&t 1.62 Rom (after HardSPL of course).
Then I used th enew SIM/CID Unlocker (with the hacked Polaris Radio) and of course flashed back to the at&t Radio (from the leaked at&t 1.60 Rom).
Since then I had a coupel of times where the GPS locked-up and required a soft reset.
So yesterday I flashed a WM6.1 Rom and a Niki Radio as I've seen a lot of user report excellent results.
It made my GPS useless. I quickly reflashed XDA Live v1.5 (with the Radio from the at&t 1.60 Rom) but my GPS still seemed lost.
Ironically today is day #29 of the 30 on this Tilt so last night I removed HardSPL and flashed the Official at&t 1.62 Released Rom using the Official exe and everything figuring I'd returnt he unit today.
Wouldn't you know it, I tested the GPS and even on the untouched at&t Rom it was working better than it had ever worked before!
Now I know that the Radio in at&t 1.60, 1.61 & 1.62 are *supposed* to be the exact same but I can say that the over from at&t 1.62 fixed a problem that the 1.60 Rom's radio couldn't. Yes, I do a hard reset after each flash already.
Heck when my daughters return from Disney I'm going to flash the 1.62 version fo the at&t Radio onto my oldest's Kaiser and see if it improved her GPS also.
seems like everyone who replied has a tilt not a VIII. Are you sure your settings are correct for your network? that would be my first guess at this point input them manually and dont use the connection wizard app as sometimes it doesnt work right. also check your phone settings make sure its set to AUTO or UTMS only if all else falls force it into 3G mode using the Band settings post your results back please

hey I am having a similar problem at my house when i first got my tilt i have a very strong 3G signal here. That tilt messed up sent it in and this new one that i got worked just fine till i flashed a new rom on it now it wont pick up 3G unless i go somewhere else and come back to my apt. And yes i HardSPL'ed it and hard reset after flashing. I even went back to stock tilt rom and that didn't work. I have tried all the radio's on this forum from stock to the new imported NIKI radio's nothing has brought it back. When I go get the 3G signal elsewhere and comeback god forbid i have to soft reset because there goes 3G out the window and locked to edge. Should i return to AT&T for an exchange or is there a fix i'm not finding?

The Tilt Roms by default don't allow manual band selection.
Bad Data settings wouldn't cause poor reception just inability to connect (regardless of 3G or Edge/Gprs) for data sessions.
Based on my experience I would say first test is to do the work and reset your phone to the latest shipped Carrier Rom for your Carrier and see if your problems persist.
When I was having my GPS issues I also had a few wierd Call issues like calls not disconnecting (I had to toggle the phone radio to actually end the call).

I had the same issue with a t-mobile(UK) viii. The issue appeared after a while using the phone before I'd got into flashing different ROMS. In the end, i had the unit swapped out and the problems went away and have not returned. You can assume its a hardware issue. I went through the is it your SIM, is it this... is it that... after explaining that basically i was right next to a 3G transceiver in a big city.
Like I mentioned, this was a fault which developed after two months of no issues.
Old hardware version (looking under battery cover):
DATE:061107(TB02)/EU
New phone:
date:090807(RB01)/EU
I have had the same issue. I have returned the phone today and exchanged on my insurance. the new phone works fine.
thanks for all the feedback - shame there isn't a fix ..
austinsnyc: thanks for your help...
- i was using the connection wizard (difference i've noticed was that it includes a proxy server which i don't when i set up manually) so i created a new connection manually
- i've changed to 3G-only and i got "no service" (though i have previously got it to work)
- i put it on auto, it registered 2G then showed 3G signal in the taskbar. Tried to connect to my manually created connection - no joy: "cannot connect for an unknown reason etc".... then i got "no signal" for about 30 seconds, then full bars of gsm, then shows 3G again....
changed back to gsm only - works fine.
I'm not exactly sure t-mobile are going to take it back!... i'll have to hunt down the original t-mobile uk rom first....
got my new tilt in yesterday and it works totally fine like i thought in my apt. If you could wilbur i would definitely get a new one i think its the phone itself.
lol so i checked to see if switching off the 3g on my new kaiser then switching back would cause the same problem and it sure did so now im stuck with edge in my damn apt. again. I wonder if these new kaiser's they're shipping out are different than the old ones, when i first bought mine at launch oct.5, 07 i could switch back and forth between 3g. Now with 3 new tilts i have gotten i cant do it anymore this blows Damn i should have never given that first one away damn
so annoying...
i upgraded to the latest Dutty Rom (the 6.1 hybrid) - sure enough, straight away after flashing i was able to use 3G to make and receive calls, and to make a data call (but it was really slow)... then, within 30 minutes, i was back to the old phone: cannot connect a 3G call and no connection to data... so annoying - i'd almost prefer it didn't work at all than tempt me with the prospect that one day i'll find a rom that works...
anyway - I'm going to need to replace it - anyone know which rom/radio combo i'd need to flash to convince the guys at T-Mobile to take my VIII back? and btw - does anyone have any experience of trying to return handsets covered in scratches?
can anyone tell me if these problems are linked to Flashing ROMS? Since i had my last Vario 3 replaced ive been apprehensive about flashing if this is what broke the last one but i really want to flash it again.

Radio failed to receive GPRS or EDGE

Since some days the MDA receive only Data from HSDPA or 3G,
If i go to some area with edge or GSM the signal strength is going to zero.
It is not possible to connect to provider network since i go back to UMTS area.
is there any hardware defect or it is possible with special software enable edge or GSM functions.
I flashed many different radios and WM6.1 roms without any better result.
What can i do?
Radio1.71.09.01
WM6.1 PDAVIET Rom 6.1

i have only had problems with the 1.71 radio aka radio from hell...... have you tried the radio from the true 6.1 rom i had the one official att tilt 6.1 and it worked like a charm i'm reverting now
i have tested many different roms but the same effect ever.
Only in UMTS area is the connection possible all other areas no signal.
at the beginning from the error:
after enter the pin the MDA locked in provider network
the mda makes softreset every time.
every login makes softreset
I reflash the complete rom and radio.
No softreset anymore but no signal no login to provider network.
Thats no problem if i had the shipped original software from t-mobile
But i can´t find what not exist´s
so with hardspl and false software i can´t send with warranty to servicepoint

point of fact, the "radio from hell" was radio 1.65.17.10, not the new emo radio.
This was definately not needy of its own thread as there is a great Radio sticky where u could have easily brought about ur question and more than likely recieved positive feedback so there is ur help and with a little reading u will see that the answer to ur problem can only be "try different radios and roms" hard reset after a flash and soft reset after a radio install" kinda bland but radios are just one of those things no exact answers as performance varies for everyone(rom device network location)

Vodacom & TyTn II Radio/ROM

I have a strange problem with my TyTn II (brought over from Vodafone UK) and now trying to run on Vodacom in SA.
Everytime I hang up a call the connection status changes from EDGE to 3G and then I get "No Service"! It re-connects about 5 mins later but sometimes it only says it is "connected" but I can't receive calls or make calls.
I'm running one of the HyperDragon III ROM's (stunning ROM) and I have tried almost all the radio upgrades out there.
Does anybody have the same prob?
Or could any south africans not experiencing any problems using the TyTn II on Vodacom Network perhaps let me know what their set-up, ROM and Radio software versions are.
Much appreciated.
Thanks
Currently:
TyTn II
ROM: HD_III_Portege WWE (3.sj.hd.03)
Radio: 1.65.17.56
have you tried turning off the 3g with the comm manager? try making a call that way and see what happens
Have you tried asking this question in the hyperdragon thread in case it is rom related? If not you need to do so or try to flash another rom to your phone and see if you still get the same problem. If you think it was a radio problem you could ask in the radio thread which is very informative.
sd73ta,
Thanks that does solve the imediate problem. Tho it would be nice to have the 3G work
Cheers

Hi
I'm using Garmin DK 6 Final Rom with radio 1.71.09.01
I am however on MTN, but did perience the same problem on previous roms
Spider24
hi
i also use the radio EMO 1.71 but on MTN and have no problem with Garmin DK 4 manilla final
spider 24 & matthieup
Thanks for the info. I'll check out Garmin DK 4 and see if that works beter.
Cheers
I've reverted back to the latest HTC Rom. Had little problems with almost all the custom ROMs.
hi hexa
I had the same problem. And also broke the phone from frustration.
Last week i did a sim card swap. my old sim card was 2+ years old and...
everything is fixed! no more issues, no more "no service", no more dropped calls. the phone is much faster as well.
i use a kaiser diamond rom and always run fring. no more connection issues!
Hey tpiece,
That's interesting. My sim is also about 2years old by now..
I'll see what a sim card upgrade does to the phone.
Thanks!
Cheers
well changes are that this is the problem. If your sim is that old, changes areit is a 2G sim, not 3G hance the problem you can when trying to connect to 3G. First thing i did when getting my tytn II was a sim swap
No Problems
I am running the latest HTC WM 6.1 from HTC site, Europe, and have not had any problems with Vodacom.
I think your problem could be related to "tower hand-overs".
I used to experience this with my old TyTN on cooked ROMS.
I reverted back to the OEM version of WM 6.1 and all the problems were resolved.
I know a while back even Leaf had radio problems on WM 6

Auto Roaming switching problems WM6.5

Anyone having issues with network auto roaming switching on WM 6.5. I have recently installed one of the Kaiser Roms v21232.5.0.1 by "Chinhe"; Everything works great except the auto roaming feature. By that I mean that usually in areas where T-mobile (USA) don't have coverage my phone used to switch to ATT, but not any more. I have all the network settings to Automatic. Personally in my case I have to manually go to phone settings and switch to ATT as a roaming provider. Is there something you guys can suggest I should do.
Anyone else having same problems?
Appreciate your time. Thank you
Try another radio. Maybe that helps. Please check the ultimate radio thread for more info.
Cheers
Hmmm did your network change anything? I know I had chinhe before, and the place where i work there is not signals in buildings, and it was roaming! But i downloaded data and stuff even with that ROM!
My Radio Rom was at 1.71 by Emo and may be that was causing the problem. Chinhe recommends version 1.70.19.09. I have recently updated my phone but I have not got a chance to fully test it.
I will post some additional comments later on. Thanks for your prompt replies.
Radio
I had almost the reverse issue on a WM6.5 ROM. My provider is T-mobile USA and it would rollover to AT&T too often. Then would have trouble "rolling" back to the T-mobile network. (leaving me unable to make or take calls for 5 minutes or so as it connected and disconnected) It was so bothersome that I switched it to manual network connectivity. While the problem was limited to when coverage was weak(one or two bars) it had never happened on previous ROMs. I've been using the EmO 1.71.09.01 for probably a year now on various ROMs and this was the first time I had experience Radio issues. Long story short, I switched to another WM6.5 cooked ROM and the problem was resolved.

GSM radio signal problem

Hi all,
I have a strange problem with my Polaris - when I drive my car and talk over the phone, it looses coverage and the conversation is being dropped. I think this happens when it changes the cells from 3G to 2G.
I used to have the problem with the original Windows Mobile and now also with WM 6.1 - the official ROM from HTC.
ROM version: 3.13.405.0 WWE
ROM date: 08/21/08
Radio version: 1.59.42.15
Protocol version: 25.85.30.07H
I have never tried to flash it with a "cooked" ROM. Do you think some of the ROM releases here will fix this issue?
I just want the problem fixed, so I will be thankful for every suggestion on how to do this!
Thank you in advance!
Regards!
Hmmm.... I guess it could be hardware error.
I have same ROM and I don't have such issue. My Polaris is also almost constantly switching 2G/3G (regarding changing coverage).

I am sure about that, Bodisson! I have a friend that has no problem with it also.
Maybe it is a hardware issue but I have no idea what to do in order to fix the problem. I bought the phone from eBay and do not have a valid warranty, so I do not know what are my options now, except to try changing different ROMs and see if I find a "magical" one that fixes the problem...
Bodisson, thank you for your response!
Any other suggestions?!
I have similar problem. Got my polaris a week ago (new) and had few droped calls when i'm in my bedroom.
Rom version 1.28.405.3WWE
Radio 1.58.25.14
Phone indicated bad signal reception (2 bars), but when it loses 3g coverage, it gets excellent reception (4 bars). So i changed phone settings and in the band tab choose GSM (i use GSM anyway) instead of Auto for my network type. No dropped calls since then (hope it stays that way ).
I'm new to the game to, but if this doesn't work for you or you need 3g, i guess you could try updating your radio. This could solve your problem (or worsen it, depends on the version people say )
Hope i helped. Ivan
@ Ivan: Is your ROM WM 6.0?
Because original poster and me have WM 6.1. And stuff happening to you happened to me while I was on WM 6.0.
Altough, I had to send my Polaris to service due to erratic BT and GPS behaviour. It resulted by changed motherboard...
Yes, my rom is 6.0. The solution i gave fixed the same problem for me on 6.0 so i figured he can try it...
I have had the problem using 6.0 also...
I am unable to try the suggested from ivanx method at the moment but as soon as I can, I will post the results here.
Unfortunately, as I said, my warranty is not valid in my country (Bulgaria), so the phone cannot go to an official service (I do not trust any other service here...).
Thank you guys!
