I recently recieved an HTC Touch Pro. I would like to upgrade my phone to WM6.5. After reading the Wiki it seems pretty straight forward but, hopefully someone can answer this question.
1. The phone is thru a local cellular company Cellcom. How do I know if my phone is CDMA or GSM?
Thanks!
GSM = Sim Card
open the back cover. If it has a sim card it's GSM

what do i have to do? can i use two service providers at the same time? can i use tmobile for voice and sprint for data? can i use tmobiles aws 3g band? has anybody done this? do i need to use my turbo sim?
I have heard reports that the GSM in the US doesn't work. Also, the FCC filings state there is a lock to prevent this from happening. I really hope someone can find a crack soon so I can use the Sprint TP2 on ATT.
However, I have heard some people getting the Telus version unlocked to work on GSM.
i'm interested in this as well - i've got a work cell that's got a tmo sim and would love to be able to pop the tmo sim in my tp2 and be able to select somehow which phone #/network the phone call comes from

Well, you can already select GSM, CDMA, or Auto on the phone. The only problem is to unlock the firmware so US GSM sim cards will work. Hoping Olipro or cmonex have something up their sleeves.
I don't know if it is ok or not for what I want to do. I currently have a Sprint Touch Pro 2, but I have no plan to use the CDMA network, so is there a GSM ROM I can flash to? Thanks.
Never flash a GSM specific anything to your CDMA device. To gain GSM access you'll need to HSPL unlock, SIM unlock then flash a new radio. Search or check the Rhodium CDMA stickies for more info and step by step instructions.

I have a Sprint TP2 (i live in London). I bought it just for the 3.5mm jack. The sprint CDMA phones (as far as I'm aware) are already GSM unlocked to make it easier for their customers to ROAM. Mine definitly was, I just inserted my Vodafone Sim Card and switched it GSM (All Settings/Phone) and hey presto it's all good.
But definitley do NOT flash a GSM ROM to this phone it may brick it. There are plenty of good CDMA ROMS about here and on PPCGeeks (which leans a little more to CDMA).
Cheers.
this is like the 4th thread about this from the op, hopefully it has sunk in that this can't be done.
I have an unlocked tp and i talked with verizon trying to set it up to use it on there network and they say i cant use it with them even tho i have the good esn number and all? what should i do have you guys heard of this or was that guys just being stupid?
I think im going to resell it or trade it for a verizon version. if any one wants to trade for a sprint version thats unlocked and comes with many extras in the orignal bo x with a 1 gig card and the mighty rom with android I will sell or trade it for 160 its in great condition Davey
there are two types of wireless networks in the world: GSM and CDMA. your phone is GSM in hardware = can't be changed), and verizon's network is CDMA = not comaptible.
correct me if im wrong but the sprint is the cdma and the att is the gsm. this phone has mightys cdma rom on it. it would have bricked the phone if it was gsm right at least that is what all the info i have read has told me. I have even flashed it to the stock verizon rom which is cdma and it was fine. I have found a few pages in the wiki about how to use it on the verizon network i will try they look kinda complicated tho.

sprint & verizon are cdma, t-mobile & at&t are gsm.
i haven't tried flashing a cdma rom on my fuze... i know it is highly unrecommended. but i am sure there is a way to tell if ur phone is gsm or cdma, probably by looking at the sticker under that battery.
Dad is correct.. Sprint is CDMA jsut like VZW... and there is an easier way to tell if it is GSM or CDMA..... Take off the batter cover.... Do you see a Sim Card? If Yes, then it is a GSM... If No, Then CDMA unless it is GSM and no sim card is in it.. then power it up... it will say SIM CARD MISSING... That will tell you that it is GSM.....
Hope that helps.
I know its cdma for a fact it has sprint across the front and it has a cdma rom on it
I tried doing a search for this thread and couldn't find anything, so if it has been talked about already my mistake.
So, my question is, Can a Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2 be unlocked to U.S. GSM Carriers?
It is a global phone and has a GSM radio and a Sim card slot. The thing I don't know is if the GSM radio is the proper frequency, if it isn't can that be changed? And if it is possible, how do I it do it?
And finally, does it need to be Sim unlocked or will I just have to switch the radio from CDMA to GSM?
Thanks much, Any help is much Appreciated.
He guys
Here is the question straight forward, I bought a used US Cellular HTC Touch Pro 2 from someone who uses the phone on a CDMA network while i will have to use it on a GSM network the seller said that there is a SIM slot underneath the battery which he never used, Will this phone work on my GSM network outside U.S. and will that phone be unlockable?
thanks in advace
HTC website
HTC website doesn't say anything about GSM support for this phone "US Celleular Touch Pro 2"
any ideas guys???
The touch pro 2 is a world phone and yes it has a sim slot (at least the sprint/verizon models do). I unlocked my phone in the U.S. and used it on AT&T with my buddies sim card, the only problem was that the radio is does not have the 3G frequencies for the U.S. you might have to research if this holds true out side the U.S. since every other country uses a different frequency set for 3G access.
Also plz tone down the font size
ya the seller satated that the phone has a SIM slot then i should assume that it can be used hopefully, and the 3G is frequinces is supported by this phone over here in Egypt and i should be fine.
sorry about the font
