WM 6.1 for TyTn II

Sorry for asking but everyone is a newbeeeee sometime, right
I just found this site and I really want to upgrade my HTC TyTn II with WM 6.1.
I understand that on this site aloooooot of people are writing there own application and changing the org. RAM etc etc.
I wounder WHAT RAM I should install, the official Microsoft 6.1 or...
Where to looooooook ?

since you are new....1st thing to do before asking a question is use the forum search function and/or go to the wiki page for your device most of your questions if not all can be answered by doing those two things...

I'm going to give you the best piece of advice I can. Don't forget the name GSLEON3. I have a feeling you might need him in the near future.

Well, you won't be changing ANY RAM for years bud. No offense, but that would take a lot of address work to alter the ram alotment.
You're best friend is the wiki, & the second post on the page called Start Here.
Now I don't expect to see another question for at least 5 days to a week, becuase if you are that new, you've got a bit of reading to do.
Start with the basics & learn about roms, radios, & basic tools that make flashing & cooking possible.
DO NOT PLAY WITH THINGS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. If you're not comfortable with a process or don't understand it, DON'T DO IT! Ohh, & one last though, never trust a solution that is just flash it!
Red, read, read, understand...Then HardSPL before you even think of flashing anything.

My RAM doesn't fit!!!!
I'm so sorry that I didn't get to chime in earlier but I was changing the RAM on my Tilt and totally screwed up trying to fit my Laptop RAM into my phone. I couldn't find the Wiki on how to fix it. Can I tether it using Active Sync?

New guy has a suggestion.. and a question about CID's

Hi Everyone, yes I've been sandbagging for the last few weeks or so since I picked up my Kaiser. I've noticed the high levels of frustration with noobs asking questions before searching and also noticed people like Gwen who have had major success off their own bat (congrats Gwen).
I have a question to pose to the elders )) ... I am relatively technically savvy but really only as an end user and part time tweaker. I am keen to try Dutty's 6.1 Rom but when I start reading about Rom flashing/cooking etc I get hopelessly lost in the details.
To get to the point, my suggestion is, would it be helpful and probably reduce a lot of clutter in the regular channels if there was a dedicated channel where noobs could hangout and ask potentially silly questions without fear of annoying ppl and where 'experts' and more experienced noobs could drop in to answer when they have time.
My example is this.. I have scoured the boards and found several how-to's on flashing including the very helpful Rom Flashing Wiki thread. But I still find myself with a question without an obvious (to me) answer. I bought my Kaiser outright (in Australia), do I still need to do the step to remove the CID using Hard SPL before kickin off the update???? If I don't will I brick my phone? Perfect question for a noob channel.

well am a mid noob not an expert but can tell u that u need to use the kaiser unlocker to do the SPL and unlock the radio aswell, there is no other way to upgrade unless u SPL first.
"u only have to SPL if using unofficial roms and official roms from other operators like at&t..etc"

i know that we are all virgins at the beginning but.....
if you cant understand what to do after reading all the wikis and all the answers that elders give all the noob questions then you maybe should not start meddling in things that might get your unit to become a paperweight.
all the answers you might have have alredy been aswerd time and time again.
i also have questions from time to time and have found that the search button has served me well.

new user looking to upgrade to WM6

Ok guys let me start by saying that i have recently purchased a M5000 which came with WM5 and i am now looking to upgrade to WM6. I have to apologise in advance as it is a new unit i am a total newb so i have a few questions.
1. Do i simply install a new ROM to upgrade?
2. If so what is considered the best version and where can it be found?
3. If i upgrade do i lose all my installed programs?
The unit is currently running with the orange side bar which i find a little annoying this is the main reason for wanting to change.
Like i say i am new so i can only apologise if my questions seem a little stupid. I have tried searching the forums for the answers but to no avail.

Many thanks Orb. I did try doing a search but unfortunately there were no polls on the subject and there did seem to be a few different versions available so i was looking for advice. I have found all the info on the wiki so i will be giving it a bash this weekend. Appreciate your help though.

Cheers orb. I had already seen the that update but my dilemma was that there are several other updates available and i wasnt sure what the general feeling as to the best one was. My initial thoughts were that the tomal was the most popular due to the number of posts and posters mentioning it in their sigs.
Whats the difference between the standard and special builds?
Are there any extra system requirements for the special build?

The best recommendation is to test several! till you have the one that fits your personal needs (I have tested a lot to find mine)
And really, you have to read!
You´ll find what is the difference between
Vanilla, standard, etc ROM´s
And many many more very usefull info

help choosing rom for 32b

i'm looking for the fastest rom with multitouch that works with 32b.
i want cyanogens rom w/ multitouch but i think that is for 32a.
i cant seem to find the list of 32b roms with multitouch anywhere

Sent you an email for that info if you don't mind. I know the ins and out of rooting the G1 and flashing, pushing and pulling with adb on that phone but when I just poked my head in here to start reading how-to's my brain started to hurt. I can understand why it may be confusing to some. Maybe someone could do up a wiki for the beginners with some detail that isn't so intense perhaps? I'm sure in a few days time I will be an ol'pro at this and will be able to help other but now I am like Hurley and Sawyer ... Lost.

Check the first few threads that are considered STICKY - they are usually a must-read for those of you who are just starting out. Not to say that you're a scrub, but soon enough you'll be where you need to be in order to answer most of these questions for yourself.
There is a Wiki for the Sapphire development at the top as well. Along with the basics forum thread that can certainly be of some help to you. Don't hesitate to thread surf and ask questions here and there. Usually, the community is always willing to offer some form of support.
EDIT: If you are sporting the HTC Dream (G1) ----> head over to that section of the overall forum thread. Those folks can be of more help. I don't use my G1 anymore, it's a backup that I use strictly for development and partitioning my SD cards. Thanks.

Where are the 32B roms?

Can someone help me by noting some good 32B roms? All I see in the forums is mostly related to 32a

Popular 32B choices:
- St0kes AOSP 2.1 (I use this.)
- Cyanogen AOSP 2.1 (I haven't tried this.)

mate thanks for 2 roms links. well i will just say that there are many 32A roms. as compared to 32B so is it possible to port and use 32A roms in 32B by modifying something.?

why you can find all the 32b roms hiding in plain sight
it seems every month someone opens another thread asking this same redundant question - you obviously have not searched at all

well mate. thanks for your reply.. but why we use to get magic roms in G1 section. if there are some then they must be released in magic section too. so thats why i asked..

because the MT3G and The dream are both the same hardware....
The reason you find 32a roms here is because we have different hardware for the better magics with more memory and some have the 3.5mm jack
if you have a 32b its because your provider would rather save money than give you a better phone

im not gonna rag on you man because i use not to know what the difference was but the g1 is 32b so if you got an old school mytouch like me just mostly stay on there. all those roms are for the first mytouch also this area is mostly for 32a mytouches (the one with the headphone jack). hope it helps!

then they should add mt3g to the g1 section and take it away from here. maybe say mt3g 1.2 or some **** like that

Yeah, I don't think you can blame anyone for being confused about that. Until yesterday, all I knew was that I had a 32B, and also wondered where all the ROMs were for me. For all the people that are "sick of the same redundant question", a little switch in the title or a sticky in this section might help.

this problem would go away if the forum description was changed.
nowhere in the G1 forum description does it mention HTC Magic.
you know where it does mention the HTC magic? that's right, in this very forum.
the fact that they are the same hardware (in some cases) is irrelevant.
the forum description tells members to come in here for all of their HTC Magic development needs. it makes no mention of the different hardware types.
i don't think anyone, particularly new members, should be blamed for making that mistake.

I think it should be also mentioned that this forum is for the HTC Sapphire in all it's forms, be it Magic or mytouch, and that moving anything to the Dream section is just going to cause more confusion. Should I really have to look in a totally different forum just because I have a 32B? Next you'll be trying to tell me to look elsewhere coz my Magic is pink. Seriously guys, there's being elitist, and there there's being plain stupid. The OP just needed to maybe learn a little bit more before posting a question, and many many many people are guilty of that.

ya mate thats true. because this confusion will always remain. so we request XDA to please add some little description about that little issue. and all rom cookers of G1 that they must use Magic or whatever with 32B support too if G1 roms are usable for Magic devices too. So no one will make this confusion again. Thats a simple issue which can be solved with little info and description.

I'm not the brightest girl at the best of times, but I managed to work it out, so did a lot of other people.
Nothing needs to be changed, people just need to learn to use the search function and read before they post a question.
