I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but I couldn't think of any good search terms for this.
Why is it that when I connect my VZW TP2 and use active sync to transfer files over from my PC, it only connects at 10 mbps. I have plenty of other USB 2.0 devices that work properly and I would hope that by now, smartphones have a 2.0 port. Anyone have an answer for this?
Are you trying to save to a storage card or to the device? I have a storage card and when you connect the TP2 to your pc while it has a storage card in it, I get an option to connect with activesync or connect as a disk drive. If I select a disk drive then the speed is much faster then with an activesync connection. I only use the activesync connection if i am going to sync my contacts and calendar. Unfortunately you do not get this option if you do not have a storage card in the TP2.
Yes I have seen that screen, just never thought those would be related. I will look into that, but it just seems weird. I had the same problem with my XV6800 and that didn't give me any option for just a disk mode. Any other thoughts as to why that is? Limitation of winmo 6.1?

No its not a limitation of winmo 6.1 it's a new option that was added later on during development. You would see it in newer builds and custom ROMs

Anyone know how to set XDA-ORBIT into mass storage mode ?
Program I need to update regularly will not use ActiveSync
and its such a pain to remove storage card and insert in card reader and then put back in orbit
Thanks for help

curtisy of search forum for "mass storage"
CardExport is the most reliable, but needs purchase.
WM5Storage is free, but you'll need to sign up at Modaco or you can't download it.
The third way is to completely turn off ALL syncing options in ASync (which I do - it will still let you connect), or connect as Guest (which I do in the office). This is easier, requiring no other setup, but the transfer speed's slower because the Async converter runs even if you tell it not to convert anything.
Already connected as guest, and disabled all syncing options
but smart2go maploader wont see the Orbit
I will have to try WM5storage
Thanks for assistance
The computers at my work have allow connection via USB cables but no active sync. On my P3300 all that happens is the battery is charged.
Other peoples mobile phones have the facility to switch from Phone mode to "data mode". This then allows their phones memory card to be read like an external drive or memory stick. Files etc. can then be transferred.
I have seen mention of WM5Storage but believe there are issues with this program. Does WM5Storage work or do problems still exist?
Is there another way to do this on my P3300 or other HTC devices.
The recent problems were whith the newer devices like the Polaris... On the Artemis it should work fine...
I've had nothing but good luck with WM5torage. It's a savior if you've got a Mac.
Is there a way somehow to accessing a portable hard disk with out connecting to PC, I mean accessing it directly to a portable hard disk from a HTC TyTn II?
thanks
No there is not.
???
Did you mean to browse a Portable HD?Only if BTooth or Wifi is buildIn.
There are a lot of solutions to acess external resources, but a direct connection per USB-wire...Nono...WinMob got no USB Hostingfunctions..

Actually, WinMob as you call it HAVE USB host functions, but unfortunately our KAISERS doesn't have the hardware needed, just HTC ExtUSB...
I'm waiting for the DIAMOND, which has USB host
I used remote desktop mobile to access to my PC. I also set up a DNS so that I can connect it through wifi. With this program, I can have total control of my PC through my At&T tilt.

Lol, i guess when you connect it, your battery will be fast at 0%. A harddrive askes allot power, the most energy goes to spin the drive.

Windows Mobile does support this function. I've seen it on the Toshiba Portege G900 (http://www.teledynamics.com.my/products/pc/products_pda.asp) Maybe running a Hdd would kill the battery rather quickly but a 8GB or 16GB memory card should be fun
I haven't plugged my fuze into any PC's for a couple of months - last time I did it was with a Windows 7 machine and it worked fine....
Well - now I'm trying to get the thing to sync with an XP machine. When I plug it into the usb, I see the fuze is charging - but activesync never comes up and nothing on the pc indicates that is saw me do this.
I've tried with 3 different XP machines here today - and none of them realize I've plugged anything in when I connect my fuze?
Soo...must be something with my fuze? Anyone have any ideas?
Only thing I saw was in settings/connections/usb to pc
there is an option for "enable advanced network functionality" - which I have disabled.
FYI I'm running WM 6.5 on it....
All previous reports of this issue ended with bad USB port on Fuze but you may want to search and read a couple of the threads first.
Interesting.
I can't seem to find any of these treads - can you point me to any?
Seems rather odd that if the port was bad that the phone would still charge though....
Let me ask you this, you say that you changed your PC to USB settings to Enable Advanced network functionality, I thought this setting was in Active Sync. USB to PC setting should be to "enable faster data transmission". Have you played with both settings?
Here is one recent thread and I know I saw another that mentioned the device would charge but not sync.
Here are many more threads regarding AS issues.

I'm using WM 6.5 - and there I see:
settings/connections/USBtoPC
..that brings up a window which has settings on the behavior of the device when you connect it to a pc via USB. The options are to a) ActiveSync or b) DiskDrive
If you select a) ActiveSync you can "enable advanced network functionality"
There is also an option at the bottom that will cause it to ask which connection type to use when you connect.
I've tried all possible combinations - my pc does nothing when I connect, but I *do* see the fuze charging...freakn strange!
Have you tried to connect through an emulator like MyMobiler?
Its most likely a driver issue on your phone.
Hate to say it but.....
If all else fails, Hard Reset, flash back to stock ROM (if you've flashed a cooked ROM) and this should restore the corrupt driver.

MyMobiler uses activesync to connect so that won't really be of any help at this point...
I was considering doing a hard-reset - but MAN I have about 140 apps installed and configured so I really hate doing that. What would be nice is if I could just find the driver and try that.
So that I suppose is my next question - anyone got the driver? hahaha
I use Pocket Controller which can use an IP address instead, I assumed MyMoblier was similar.
Copy the enclosed .dll to your windows directory using something like total commander because it is a cooked in system file. It still may not allow it though.
You should also look into Sashimi restoral program, as it is not uncommon to have to hard reset occassionally.
Good luck!
Is a firewall blocking it?
Each time I want to sync my Fuze, I have to disable my firewall. For some reason, even when I open the correct ports, my Fuze will not sync to Windows Mobile Device Center on my Vista Ultimate (32-bit) laptop.
Once it connects, I can turn the firewall back on and everything works fine. New and changed items will continue to sync until the Fuze is disconnected from laptop.
You may have already checked this and/or things may be different with XP and AS, but since I didn't specifically see it in the post, I thought I would throw it out there.
Bad cable???
I decided to try a different mini-usb cable and it worked.
Here is what is strange though - the bad cable:
1. Still charges the phone when connected to a PC
2. Works fine with my external 500gig USB hard drive (which also is powered via the cable)
3. ...but no computers see the phone with this cable - or see it as a storage device.
Because of #1 and #2 above - I assumed the cable must be good. I had another cable so I figured I'd give it a shot - and sure enough with this cable it works with all the computers.
I guess there must be one bad pin or something with the cable - or something??? Guess it must use different ones than the external hard-drive apparently.
Oh well - at least it works and rather it be a $2 cable than my $200 phone...hahaha
Thanks everyone for the suggestions....
For what it's worth if anyone stumbles across this post in the future, I had a similar issue happen where it would bring up the usb menu on my fuze when you plug it in, but the computer wouldn't see it.
I had recently swapped the display/touchscreen, and it was one of the strips of metal ground/shielding tape inside the thing being mispositioned that did it.
Put it back together with everything in the right place and boom! works.
If you've taken the phone apart, those pieces of shielding tape are very important to get back exactly like they were, I've also seen lcd issues from it.
I am looking for a tweak\tool\registry hack (if possible) to have a Charge Only Mode for Windows Mobile 6.5 if at all it is possible. Most of the times, I am at office using my HD2 (Dual boot with 6.5 and DarkStone Android ) connected to the Laptop and it would be great if I can just connect it to my laptop without choosing either of the three options
1. ActiveSync
2. USB Storage Mode
3. Internet Sharing
P.S : I did lot of search for this option but was unable to find it and hence started this thread...but I will be more than happy if anyone can redirect me to an existing thread if any, for the same issue.
When your phone is charging off the laptop do you actually use any apps on it?
I'm like you in that I spend 2 days a week with my phone charging from the laptop, but I never use it for anything other than phone calls, so selecting disk drive does the job for me.
Any apps I'd need, I'd make sure were installed on the device.

Better use the active sync or the mass storage mode..As it is you wont be needing to install apps on your memory card thanks to the massive storage of the HD2 compared to the older WM devices...This shouldn't be a problem IMHO...
Cheers.
Ive got a really easy fix for this, just use a different cable, you can get cables or adaptors that will charge only and wont sync. When you want to sync just change the cable or take off the adaptor.
btw... such an adaptor is only £2.50 from amazon for my phone

This doesn't stop the action as such, but when you connect your phone to PC, with the 3 options you listed, there should be a a check box at the bottom "Don't ask me again", so whatever you choose will automatically happen next time (choosing USB storage will therefore not ativate ActiveSync/Device Centre on your PC. This can also be found under Settings->Other (miscellaneous settings)->USB to PC (see attachment).
Or, just use a wall socket charger?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies ! The reason I asked this question is because I do not have a Data Plan on Phone. I only use Wifi at home and office and Active Sync kills it. Data storage mode won't let me use the Storage which I kinda need (Don't ask me why? ) and ofcourse Internet sharing Mode just sends the phone into a crazy 'Connecting 3G Network'...loop.
Anyways, I think using the Charge Only Cable should do the trick for now..But I still feel that this mode will be helpful for few rares like me...Love tis mode in Android.

ActiveSync does not kill my Wifi - make sure the 'Allow wireless connections on device...' is checked under File->Connections Settings. Also ActiveSync should allow your phone to use your PC's internet connection (pass through) anyway.
The other thing to try is to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSsync as if you've never synced it before and when you next connect it it will ask you to set up a relationship but click cancel and - viola - should now just charge.

No "Allow Wireless Connection on Device" option. I am using Windows 7.. Not sure if it is present in WMDC.
ActiveSync Passthrough does not work..I am on a encrypted network with authentication based Proxies..whole bunch of them.....
I do not want to kill the ActiveSync relationship since it syncs everything with my PC.
I think I am bothering a lot over this stupid requirement.. so I will just close this thread (If I can) but if I find anything I will post it here, for someone else who might be in similar situation.
Thanks anyways...XDA rocks !!!
