SPRINT - Touch Pro2 CDMA

I am a Sprint customer and I just renewed my 2 year. I love there customer support I havnt been with anyone other then nextel but friends have been with all of them. Sprint gets probably the seconed best reseption of all carriers. Sprint plans are cheap compared to most other carriers, and as stated above sprint customer support is great. As long as I been with sprint I have seen ups and downs however for the most part I have really only seen ups. There was a time when sprint customer support sucked. It was a very short period of time and I almost droped my service because of it. They straitend there act up quick though. When I say there service sucked for a short time I mean the period of a few months. Thats really not a long time at all. However for the most part over the last 4 years I have had great service and reception is great as well. Phone selection is bad either. They over hyped the palm pre and I wish they got the Omnia HD2 but whatever the TP2 is awesome anyway.

HTC HD2 / Leo on a US carrier now?

Hello Everyone,
I was curious as I cannot find a definitive answer to this. Looking at the specs page on HTC (http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hd2/specification.html), it appears that this phone would possibly be usable on a US carrier. I am wondering if using the method in the link below might apply to the HD2 as well. Before you ask why I don't just wait for it to come stateside...well, what's the fun in that?

Went to the ATT store yesterday to look at the Pure (hated it) and they went online to check the specs and assured me it would run on their network if it was unlocked!
Yeah...I saw that. Problem is that I am currently with AT&T and am looking to switch to a CDMA carrier. Not too happy with AT&T or T-Mobile at the moment. =\
The word is that it will come to US carriers in The first quarter of 2010. The European specs suggest it will be to AT$T or T-Mobile.
Funny, I switched to AT$T a few years back because Sprint and Verizon really sucked.
After ten years with Nextel and then Sprint, my Blackberry's screen cracked and the hangup button stuck making the phone almost unusable. Even though I was 2 months before my contract was upgrade available, they refused to, after ten years with them, subsidize a new phone. Suffered with my phone for two more months and switched to AT$T, so far they have been great to me.
Somehow I doubt it will come to AT&T, unless they are smart enough to see that this is the best contender against the iPhone. AT&T's monopoly with Apple makes them complacent and slow to provide their customers with alternatives.

It's not a Beast, it's Beautiful! The Russians have given us size comparison & review, a must read. It still needs work but so far it's showing itself to be at the top of the list. I believe when it gets updated it will arrive in the US.

I agree, I just don't see it happening. Part of the reason why I left AT&T (and my iPhone) was because of the massive amount of dropped calls. I finally got fed up and switched. But considering the amount of trouble they are having with the iPhone, I doubt they would pickup it's best competitor.
Hmm, I can't remember the last time I dropped a call. Probably happens more in "population dense" areas (e.i., not here).
Anyway, I want to find the answer to this question as well. From all the specs I see the phone is theoretically capable of running on AT&T's 3G (UMTS 850 and 1900 Mhz).

Those specs on pdadb are not final "Datasheet State: Preliminary specifications".
But yes, it would do 3G on at&t if finalized UMTS 850 & 1900 Mhz).

Anyone up for working on building an android rom for for it, not a big fan of WinMobile. In-fact this is the whole reason I got it besides the fact its a sweet phone!!!

This does sound weird..If the main reason of getting the phone is android, why not just wait for a native android phone that has a similar spec? (e.g. HTC Dragon / Acer Liquid / Experia X3)

Not trying to be a jerk, but I figured I would share my insight/experience with the issue you had with Sprint/Nextel, and will probably have with AT&T and any other provider you go with.
I work for T-Mobile currently, and have been there for over 5 years now (and will tell you right now, The HD2 is coming to us.) The issue you had is the most common complaint in the industry. The truth is, no matter where you go, it'll be the same thing. On top of it not being "fair" to customers that are just as loyal, but only have 7 years tenure instead of 10 years, it's the fact that you "only being 2 months away from your full discount pricing," that company could potentially be losing 2 months of your commitment. Meaning, if they make you wait till your contract is over, they'll get a fresh 2 years out of you. If they give it to you 2 months before your contract is over, they'll only get 22 months out of you. You see my point ? Now, what I personally think should be done is, you have 2 months to go ? Okay, we'll make your contract be a solid 26 months, and you get your "full discount" today, early.
Cellphone customers really need to be grateful about getting plan discounts, loyalty credits, full upgrades, partial upgrades. Because let me tell you. Not every business out there gives loyal customers anything. I've been a loyal "Florida Power and Light" customer for 6 years, never had a late payment and inturn have never been given a discount on my electric bill. I mean, how often does your credit card company send you a letter saying, "Hey, you've been such a loyal customer...here's a 12% off discount for being a AAA member, and for every customer you refer to us we'll give you $175 credit to your bill!" Ya know ? I'm not expecting anyone to LIKE this answer. But it IS the reason, and I'm sure the rep's answer that you're dealing with at the time, "Because!," doesn't do it for you. So I figured I'd take the time to inform you guys.

Since you work for T-Mo can post the final specs for the HD2 when they get finalized for the US? I'm with ATT and haven't had a problem with dropped calls for 4 years now.(I think it's something wrong with build of the Iphone) I'm not trying to switch carriers, just want a badass phone.
I want to know what will we be missing in TP2
if we dont get the Htc HD2 ?

I just got off the phone with a HTC tech support. I had some questions about the release date. I wanted to know if it was going to release in Q1 2010 fiscal or Q1 2010 calendar. Get this, he said all he knew was Q1 2010 to T-mobile. sucks for me because T-mobile is non-existent in my neck of the woods.
I agree (I'm w/SECO) but TMO reception is really bad where I live & I've been following the 'LEO' for a long time patiently waiting for it & if it's only going to TMO I think I'm going to ... well maybe get some sort of 'mi-fi' to use it. I need a phone & the HD2 is what I want. Thanks

Why is that?

Help me decide between Sprint and Verizon TP2

New Guy here. First post.
OK, so here's my issue. I've been a Nextel customer(moved over to Sprint awhile back) for about 10 years. My contract is about up and I'm going to get a Smartphone finally after all these years of using my Axim and cell phone separate.
I've kinda nearly decided on the Touch Pro 2 and they are both available from Sprint and Verizon. Sprint only offers the TP2 with the older OS and can't give me any idea of when they will update it if ever. Also, they want $350 for it. Verizon has it with the newest OS for $200.
Is there any reason I should stay with Sprint or should I be looking at Verizon? Other than if you have a bias for or against a particular carrier, is there a benefit of one over the other?

The new verizon OS has been a real pain for me so far.
I may be looking to switch to a cooked rom if I can't get e few things working.
I do NOT use the TF3D (or Sensui) interface, I use the normal today screen. If you use the TF3D interface, the new rom looks like it may be better for you.
If that doesn't matter, then it has more to do with the cost and coverage. Where I need my phone to work, VZW has better coverage.
I would consider these things (in no particular order):
1. Which carrier has the best coverage in my area?
2. What plans are available, and which plan suits my needs best?
3. Which carrier has the best customer service?
4. How much will equipment and accessories cost?
5. Which carrier has the most up to date software (for PDA's)?
I had AT&T for 5 years, and just recently switched to Verizon. I was considering Sprint, but when I considered the things listed above, Verizon was a better choice for me. I'm not telling you to switch to Verizon by any means. I'm just giving you some things to think about. Switching carriers can be a hassle up front, so don't expect the transition to be smooth if you do switch.
I've been reading a lot about the Touch Pro2, and it sounds to me like the Sprint and Verizon versions are pretty similar. Personally, I'm sticking with Sprint, but one advantage to the Verizon version is that, although it comes locked, apparently if you can get Vz to unlock the GSM portion of the phone, it will work with US carrier SIM cards. Not so with the Sprint version, which is unlocked by default for overseas carriers but will not work on GSM bands in the US at all (unless you hack the thing).
In terms of phone cost, I think it would be helpful to just compare your overall two year cost of ownership (e.g., including monthly plan payments) rather than just the out-the-door phone price. Also, I think it's basically a certainty that Sprint will be upgrading their Touch Pro2 to WM6.5, by the way.
That's where I'm at right now. I can say that I've had great coverage and utility from Nextel/Sprint over the past years. Talking to others though I am the minority and not the majority. My wife says it was the first carrier she had that allowed her to get a signal in class at the local college.
At the same time, People here who have Verizon swear by them.
I am leaning more toward Verizon at this point since. I figure, we have 30 days in order to switch back if we find we don't get as good of coverage.
I just wonder if Sprint is actually faster than Verizon as far as 3G/4G goes. I find it odd though that Sprint seems to be on again, off again when advertising a 4G network.
eh.... i wouldn't base your decision on what the stock rom is.... there are several good cooked roms, i have sprint and i managed to use the stock rom for about a week before i started flashing roms over... and i haven't looked back since
and sprint has some good things going for their service plans... any mobile any time. and i dont have any roaming charges, so i really dont care if sprint has good service as i get service anywhere anyone else does now....
I'm not comfortable enough to use a cooked ROM on a device I rely on. After I make the switch over to a smartphone I'll start playing with those on my Axim x51v and then maybe eventually start hacking my phone. Right now, I don't want to run the risk of bricking my new phone. I need the PDA for work as I am a trauma Nurse and use alot of different programs and if I loose my PDA, it could very well cost a life. Not just an inconvenience, it kinda is a necessity on my part.
If it wasn't for that, I'd hack it in a heartbeat.
then i would go with the one with the most stable os. personally i am sprint and have been for years but with the great rates and coverage i haven't really had a need to look elsewhere. from the above post it sounds like there are some issues to sort out with the vzw 6.5 rom and i can tell you first hand that the sprint 6.1 is very solid, fast, and stable. thus far it's been the best stock rom that i have come across. personally i just don't like 6.1 anymore or i would probably be running stock. it is a little higher in price (ok a lot higher), but it bsaically pays for itself with the cheaper plans compared to vzw.
I have had both Sprint and Verizon. I went with Verizon because everybody I know has VZW and I could basically call/text anybody I know without using any minutes or texts so it allowed me to put a super low minutes/text plan on my phone. As far as service Sprint and VZW have been pretty much equal in my book. They both kick the crap out of ATT that's for sure.
One thing NOT to worry about is the up-front cost of the phone. Considering the difference in cost for the plan over a 2 year contract, the phone's price is minor.
I just switched from Sprint to Verizon. I had two branded TP2's with Sprint and I have two branded TP2's with Verizon. I was with Sprint for 8 years prior to the switch and have had the Mogul, TP, and TP2. I've been flashing ROM's on all my Sprint phones since the Mogul.
For me personally, Verizon has the best coverage for the area where I work and live. The Verizon TP2 just "feels" better and more solid in my hand than Sprints.
As far as coverage, I was on 1x or Roaming with Sprint inside my workplace. With Verizon I have 3G. The Sprint battery would last about 12 hours at best, since my phone was constantly looking for a tower. With Verizon I get 20.5 hours of average use. Plus Verizon has Rhodium500 which is newer.
I've found the Verizon phone is faster out of the box. I just finished upgrading the phone to the newest official 6.5 build and I'm mildly impressed. But I will be on a custom rom by the end of the week.
The newest build has some touchflo GUI enhancements which is pretty slick, plus visual voicemail.
htcfan78 is right, check on coverage. I live in Florida. Verizon built backup generators at all their towers. So if another hurricane comes thru and knocks out power, I'll still have cell coverage. Can't say the same for Sprint.
Having been with Sprint for 8 years, I'm really impressed with Verizon, both the phone and customer service. But in the end its all relative to your own individual experience.
sprint would be cheaper monthly just upfront is where verizon wins.

A while back Sprint and Verizon got into bed together
Verizon wanted a fast dependable data network without paying to develop it so they actually pay sprint to use there data network, part of the agreement was that Sprint would get to use all of verizon's voice service for sprint roaming at no cost to there customers. So as far as usage they are the same network.
Verizon charges there customers for every little thing they do., and until the other day did not have a affordable everything plan. also sprint and HTC have an accord that (even though most carriers have released the final version of the phone) all the other cariers would be beta testers for the touch pro 2 .
other than that the phones are virtually identical.
oh btw sprint customer care sucks.

I'm beginning to lean a little toward the Sprint again now. I discovered that a friend of mine via a totally different website is a Sprint Tech who works on the infrastructure and tech side of things. He's provided me a little more insight on the overall costs and benefits compared to Verizon and even AT&T.
I went through the Hurricanes a few years back and remember our EMS services here in Polk swithing over to Verizon, from Sprint, after and most have more issues now than before. One of the Captians says he can be sitting in his office with a tower within visual sight and still not have a signal. I know, doesn't mean it's a Verizon tower but still....
Everyone I know on the civilian side that has Verizon has nothing but good to say about it. I think my wife and I are about the only people who have Nextel/Sprint that doesn't have a problem with cell service. From what I've read and what I've been told by some in the know, there will be a update on the Sprint Phone, just not until it is stable and as bug free as possible. This weekend, the wife and I will be out shopping and going to some of the service centers to see what kind of deals we can get. I onlt just learned about the Premiere customer service from Sprint adn apparently I more than qualify for it. Also, I think I may even get a small discount for working at the Hospital. I know Verizon has a 18 or 19% discount. Why not 20%, I don't know. ALso, I'll call and speak to Customer care at Sprint to see what they are willing to offer to keep me a a customer. Then it ultimately comes down to what Sprints plan and price is compared to Verizons plan and price and how much it costs with any addons. I read a coupld of sites over the last couple days that show where Sprint is $20 cheaper at minimum for the same services. That alone would make up the difference in phone cost. Especially over the lifetime of the phone as I don't upgrade often.
Heck, I'm still using the same Axim x51v that I bought back in 2005 and the same ic902 that I got back in 2006-7 and have been hapy with both ever since. I'm just tired of carrying both around all the time.

I'll chime in for Sprint. It depends on how much you talk and who you talk to, but Sprint's plans are pretty cheap. My wife and I pay ~$120 a month for unlimited messaging and data for both of us, meaning even extra premium services like GPS, TV, radio, etc. We admittedly don't have the most minutes, but Sprint lets you call any cell phone, regardless of carrier, without using minutes. We mostly just call people on their cells and call parents and the like on weekends, so the small number of minutes we get is never even closed to being exhausted. They also don't roll-over, but if we never come close to going over, who cares? I've found Sprint's coverage to be excellent where I live in Utah, and quite comparable to Verizon in the high Rockies in Colorado when we visit my parents.
There will always be good and bad stories of customer service, but I like the reps at our local Sprint store and they actually know quite a bit about the hardware they're selling (I will never forget when I was exchanging a bad Tilt (Kaiser, not the Rhodium) and I asked the AT&T rep if he had any suggestions for ROM's or software. He told me he didn't really know about any of that, but he had watched a movie on his once and thought that was cool, haha).
I have sprint.. I have the everything data plan which comes with ANY CELL ANY TIME so I can call my friends on any cell service.. I also get UNLIMITED DATA and UNLIMITED TEXT/MMS.. also 1500 minutes...
the stock rom is not good at all.. I use mighty rom and its made my phone 10000000 times better
Well, I stayed with Sprint. Took the TP2 and the wife opted for a Blackberry 8350 or something like that. She got it becasue it was Purple.....
To make things even better, Since I'm an RN and with teh Trauma team for my local hospital(probably employee discount they all get), I got an additional 23% discount on my plan so my $129 plan is closer to $100. Verizon was only giving 18% off their price so it was even a greater savings for me. So I'll more than make up the difference in price of the phone over the next year.

What the heck was I thinking????

Walked into a Verizon store so my girlfriend could get a new phone. As the salesman was helping her out, he started up a conversation with me about who I had service with and what phone I was using.
Like a gun slinger pulling out his shiny nickle plated revolver I smuggly produced my fully hacked and modded Samsung Captivate. He was seriously impressed with it. Especially that I had a 2.2.1 ROM loaded on it with all the bells and whistles.
Then the fun was over and he hit me where it hurt....."How much are you paying each month for your service?"
To shorten up this story I will just skip to the part where he offered me a service plan on my 3 lines (2 of which are Captivates) that was almost too good to be true, and before I new it, my poor cappy was now nothing more than a hopped up mp3 player, and I was the new owner of a Droid X.
Its been 2 days, and I have yet to have a conversation where the phone doesn't shut down in the middle of it. I have flashed the latest and greatest ROM over on the Droid X side but it still reboots at will. I have found numerous people with the same problem after searching Google, but no fixes for it.
Coincidentally, the second droid is doing the same thing.
To be honest, even without the reboot issue, the DX just doesn't compare to my Captivate in any way.....well except for one. The GPS is stinking flawless on the droid.
I want to drive by the Verizon store and throw all three phones through the window and go back to AT&T begging them to take me back without either of them charging me out the yahoo in penalties.
Does anyone know if I can switch back without any issues or is Verizon and AT&T both gonna stick it to me? I made the purchase 7pm Sunday the 16th.
Its worth mentioning that two numbers have been ported over to Verizon and one will not be for another week or two. So technically I still have an account with AT&T.

At&t should be able to restore your numbers on your account. Basically everything goes back to the way it was before you ported. Then you should get credited back for the ETA fees if they already billed you for it. There may be reactivation fees though...
Doing so would also automatically cancel your Verizon account so you would need to return all the equipment back to them otherwise they'll charback your credit cards for the retail prices of the phones.

I mean, I love my Captivate, but I don't think that ATT's service is worth the money or hassle. If my workplace wasn't paying and forcing me to stay, I would have jumped ship 4 years ago.
(Why didn't you get a HTC Droid Incredible? What were you thinking? )

You should have 30 days to go back to Verizon and tell them thanks, but no thanks.
Verizon gives you 30 days to try out new phones. all you have to do is return it and they will charge you a pro-rated amount for the service that you used, nothing else. No etf's or any penalties. And I'm sure AT&T would be more than willing to take you back, especially if you are coming back from verizon.
No lie, I have heard horrible things about DROID. My buddy has replaced his 3 times.

I have no problems with att, and verizon's 4g speed is still less than the six mb/s att's 3g pulls down. I seed no reason to switch to verizon. slower, less coverage, customer service is crap, phone are ****e... Att has been nothing but gold to me.

Verizon's theoretical speed is upwards of 15Mbps last I checked. AT&T's 3G coverage seems to be pretty shoddy for me; often when I'm travelling, I am forced to EDGE; it doesn't really bother me that much, but means my internet is heavily crippled. For customer service, ATT's bricked 4 of my phones and asked me to pay. I don't think it gets much worse than that; at least I managed to force them to upgrade my RAZR V3 to a V3XX after it just died within 2 months, then to send me a new one when they bricked that while unlocking it, then sending me a new LG Shine after bricking that while unlocking it when I owned it. Worst was when they bricked my Bold 9700 when they told me to update it after my data got spontaneously wiped.
AT&T has no good phones save for the Captivate and the iPhone (both of which are debatable at this point), so I have no clue what your point there is. Any of Verizon's Droids destroy both.

i also hate at$t, but in my area it is great!! and yeah i want the infuse! i need a bigger screen,atrix will be aswome im sure, just root, flash and love life
I got a free dell streak from my dell Rep and it is easily day shiznit. It came with froyo preloaded and it is unlocked. Works great on att but there is no compatiable software for front facing webcam.
Can't beat it really. And the GPS works instantly

I talked to the verizon rep that sold me my phones. He replaced the dx's (which have worked flawlessly btw), and told me to give it a couple of weeks before I made my move.
I have to admit, I'm liking the new coverage. I'm not getting the 2 and 3mgs download speeds I was getting on my cappy, (which I could only get in very few areas) but I am getting about 1.5mgs on the dx almost everywhere with verizon coverage.
The dx isn't a elegant a my cappy and I have had to jump through a couple of hoops to get a custom rom installed, but it is just as functional, and the gps has been spot on.
I miss my captivate pretty bad, but as the initial shock is wearing off, verizon doesn't seem do bad.
I still have a couple of weeks to decide and my cappy is still sitting on my dresser just incase.

Just to correct everyone about the "30 days" to return/cancel your service with Verizon. On Sunday the 16th (the day the OP purchased his phone) Verizon implemented a 14 day (not 30) day period to avoid the ETF.
I know this because I work at a national retailer who sells Verizon phones.
That explains why the rep said "just give it a couple more weeks." Wow do I hate people who try to screw others over (the rep in this case).
"You may return or exchange wireless devices and accessories purchased from Verizon Wireless within 14 days of purchase. A restocking fee of $35 ($70 for netbooks and tablets) applies to any return or exchange of a wireless device (excluding Hawaii)."

I know 2 people with Droid X's and TBH they are horrible. I'm not saying SGS phones don't have their own unique issues but the "official" 2.2 for the Droid X is seriously just bad. They both have random shutdowns/reboots and they are sluggish compared to SGS phones. The one lady I know used my cappy and didn't understand why her droid was was so much slower...at everything. I told her that's what she gets for buying a phone because it's "Cool" because they have a commercial for it ever other commercial break. Also did you look into if you get a discount through ATT for your job? I get 20% off my bill (5 phones, 3 cappys, iphone3g, crap flip phone) for a company I haven't worked for for like 4 years now.
As for the Streak, I burned all my Jinco's 15 years ago and bought jeans that fit. I don't care how great it supposedly is or isn't, a 5" phone is to big to fit in a normal pair of jeans comfortably and not look retarded.

That might be true Mike but my money says you'll be pulling your hair out trying to port 2.3 over to the Atrix with its locked up boot loader when the Bionic is to be released with it already.
And its almost a sure bet you can tack on about 6 to 8 months on AT&T's promised release date on any phone they advertise.

This is correct. He told me this Tuesday. I bought the phones Sunday. So I have until the next saturday to make up my mind.
Just so you know, Verizon's is CDMA which means it will have weaker call signal and stronger data signal. The signal bars only report your data signal, not your voice call signal. It can be very deceiving.
Also, you cannot use data while using the phone to talk to someone. So you can't say, "Let me look it up right now." Because it will just say "No Data Connection."
if you decide to stay with verizon, make sure you check your bill each month. vzw likes to add bogus fees that most of their customers don't even notice. this happened to both me & my gf (on separate accounts)
First Verizon's return policy is 14 days after that etf is 375$ no matter where u r n contract, 2nd they don't have a 4G phone that has 4G speeds nor do any carrier. ATT speeds are greater at 3G than all competitors except tmo areas that are using their upgraded 3g network they claim is 4g and they r barely faster but they have a small area their coverage covers without losing Singal since they "changed their 3g".
And who would do the droid x over the cappy? That sales man must be good at what be does because stock the cappy kills droid x in all benchmarks and speed tests for network since Verizon 3g network is the slowest of all major carriers. Do a speed test bet it don't do more then 1.2Mbps down when I can get 5Mbps on my cappy with ATT.
ATT 4G when it is rolled out will do 4-5x faster then what it does now which is suppose to be 7Mbps x 4 so around 28Mbps down is insane... my phone is already faster then a lot of dsl providers...
Anyway not flaming just wanted to put my 2cents in with facts. My brother owns a droid x its not bad but cappy is one nice piece of hardware

It has begun. The decline of T-mobile into AT&T!... Or maybe not!

T-mobile has made recent changes that go against everything that they stood for, everything that made them who they are. I have been reading more and more reports of inferior customer service compared to how they used to be. I have seen where people are informed that tmobile can no longer wave fees for longtime customers in good standing. I have personally been told that I could upgrade for phones from the Samsung vibrant to the galaxy s 4g with the full upgrade discount because of issues with the GPS. It was still going to cost $250 per phone ($1000+tax). I was not able to afford all of that at once and asked if I could do 2 now and 2 later. The gentleman told that would not be a problem, the upgrade offer was in my notes and would be available whenever I wanted to upgrade. I made it a point to ask again and he assured me “if I waited 2 weeks or 6 months” that offer would be there. I waited 1 bill cycle so that the cost would be on two separate bills and called back. Now they say they cannot honor that offer as it was a “1 time offer that I should have taken then”. After going around and around with the rep and then his “supervisor “, I was told that it was actually no longer possible for them to override upgrade dates in the system anymore. Even if you have been with tmobile for 10+ years and never had a late payment, like I have. It was like a whole different attitude when you talk to them , like your talking to att customer service or something.
*UPDATE* So, I just got off the phone with t-mobile... again. They are making it right. After 2 hours on the phone and then the original guy I talked to calling me back, I am getting it fixed. Yea! It was weird, he was like "I don't understand why they didn't just do it." He also said (but he could have been lied to) that t-mobile cust service rep's were told that they would all be kept on as at&t reps and they would be "training" the att reps in cust service. Two different reps told me that they had system changes in the last month and that they could not do all the things they used to be able to do. I hope I am totally wrong, and t-mobile stays the same great "#1 cust service" company I've come to know and love.
Use the same trick as any other customer service desk...call again till you get a rep who will give you the answer you want.

Negative. I love the vibrant and sgs4g. My problem is I was told I could upgrade because the gps was nonfunctioning, then a few weeks later I was told I could not. That is poor customer service. I have always defended tmobile when people complained. When you call in (and I have called 3 different times) you can just hear a difference in their tone. It's like they honestly do not care if they keep you as a customer or not. I have never had this feeling from tmobile in the 10+ years I've been with them.

T-Mobile customer retention did me right today

Customer retention did me right on today. To make a long story short I have had problems with my Vibrant since day one back in July. From the GPS to the freezing and reboots. T-Mobile has sent me 5 Vibrants since August and when I called on today I asked to speak with a manager. I told them I would like to cancel my account because I spent $500 on a phone and they have done nothing to fix it for me. I told them I tried every GPS fix known to man but none of them worked to my standards. I play golf and use Skydroid so I need the GPS to be pretty damn accurate. It worked fine on my MyTouch 3g. She then said "I can give you a $200 credit if you upgrade your device." I told her if she looked at my account I haven't been under contract with them for 3 years and have purchased my last 4 devices off contract so what makes you think I want to sign a 2 year contract now with this AT&T merger looming around. She asked me how they could keep me as a customer and I asked her what the value of my used Vibrant was. She told me $354. I then said, "the only way I will remain a T-Mobile customer is if they buy my Vibrant back for $354 and I purchase a G2x off contact for the difference". She put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back and said they would be willing to do that and would ship my G2x tomorrow and after I receive it I have 7 days to return my Vibrant. She even asked me if I would like to pay for the G2x right now or just add the cost to my bill. I chose to pay it now and should have a G2x in my hand by Friday for less than what people are paying to upgrade. Big deal, my Vibrant is gone but I got two cores of goodness for a little over $150 off contract.
