Removing the HTC predictive text thing?

On my original Orbit, the predictive text was the built in WM one (even after the WM6 update), but on the Orbit 2 it's the black one which isn't the WM6 one but presumably is the HTC replacement. However, I don't like it. Partly because I type a lot of texts from my PC using Pocket Controller Pro to type directly into the message. With the HTC predictive thing, if I type at normal speed, it drops characters, but the original Microsoft WM one doesn't. So now I have to type v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y, which is a PITA.
So that's a long winded way of asking whether I can switch back to the Microsoft predictive text.. thanks!
Did you even look at the settings? Or use google before posting?

Yes, neither of which came up with a solution. Is there a specific google search I should try which will give me the right answer?

Still nothing. "Is there a specific google search I should try which will give me the right answer?". If you've got a point to make about looking up answers then you're not making it very well. Perhaps demonstrate that the answer is out there and easily found by showing me what I should be looking for. Stuff like "remove polaris xt9" "remove touch cruise xt9", doesn't give me any site that tells me what I need to know. Presumably you know different, so let's see what you've got.

What a twat! If you know the answer, then share it - or even better, put it in the Wiki. Don't post three times on the same topic, just to tell the OP that he should Google for it - especially when it patently isn't intuitively obvious to find.
(I too would like to get rid of this Predictive Text mode, and I too am unable to find it using search engines - and yes, there are other search engines than Google.)
Besides him being a twat in other posts, he's got a valid point here.
RTFM, it's in the user manual that came with your HTC Polaris. Read it again, it's easy to spot.
Go to your keyboard options and select the specific keyboard settings... his hint about XT9 should be all you need by now.
By the time I finished typing this post and went back to thread listings I saw this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357744 thread as the bottom listing...
search and you'll find.. Most of it is already posted (besides the various hardware bugs this type of device is suffering from )

Nothing in the manual describes what I want to do. I've just checked a PDF of it and searched and re-read every reference to "XT9". Nothing in any of the threads I've read describes how to do what I want to do. You on the other hand seem to think differently so I've asked you a number of times now to be specific, but it seems you can't be. I wonder why...

Well firstly I'm amused that you would come up with this, despite telling me in your last post that "I'll make something obvious clear: You can't have the old WM word suggestion back". Sounds to me like you haven't actually got a clue what you're talking about.
But I've already tried that and it doesn't work, not on my device anyway, it makes no noticeable difference. TBH I was then a bit worried about installing a cab that turns out to make no difference that I could tell, but dissecting the CAB meant it was easy enough to ensure its changes could be undone with confidence.

Well you're wrong again. The manual doesn't tell me how to restore the WM6 prediction, which is what I asked for. I knew this before I even posted the OP. If the manual was enough, then how come, after all your bleating have you still not managed to point out a working solution?
Next time mate, learn to read the OP properly before making botched assumptions and then acting like a sanctimonious arsehole. You'll only look like a little twat in the long run when it's pointed out to you that you were wrong and have absolutely no basis for your whining.
The manual is useless to me also. I went into the Input mode and disabled everything, but it still suggests word, adds a space, etc.
I prefer to use the Block Recognizer and it continually adds spaces.
If I want it to suggest a word when entering a calendar event, it does not suggest a word even if I turn on the option to suggest words.
Basically, it does everything I do not want it to do!
I did some searches also, but I really did not get any useful results other than the basic text shown in the manual.
It's not my fault that you can't consider the lack of information in the manual and in forums as information in itself.
No info in the maunal, can't restore it to default (whithout tweaking).
CAB's not working, can't restore it to default (whith tweaking) - also according to your last post you found that already, so there is another (older) thread dealing whith your problem (at least partialy).
You don't have the knowledge to restore it, if you had it you would have restored it already.
In conclusion, you can't restore the Original one. How am I wrong?

The best thing you can do about it is to wait for someone comes up whith a solution, but I don't belive there will be one, just newer versions of XT9 that (maybe) works properly. Or try other ROMs (like the upcoming Polaris Project ROM, or bepe's), and hope one of them has the XT9 working properly, or has the original.

You're wrong because you told me to RTFM when (as I already knew), the answer to my question wasn't there. You were wrong when you suggested I was being lazy. You were wrong in your original misinterpretation of what I'd asked, leading you to give wrong advice. Thankyou, some reasonable opinion at last. I'll also investigate what I can do to restore the WM6 predictive text by comparing my Orbit WM6 image with my Orbit 2 WM6 image.
So how do I remove the predictive text thing then?

Has the orbit 2 got HSDPA?

Im thinking of upgrading from the orbit to the orbit 2, but some sites seem to be saying it has the 7.2mb HSDPA and some say it hasn't.
Can anyone tell me which it is?
The Orbit 2 has 3.6mbps HSPDA
My question is: Does a new thread occours to "discover" something like this or maybe you could search it using google??
You had just to enter "orbit HSDPA", and that's all...........

You obviously didn't look very well when you went to the HTC website under Touch Cruise, listed right here:
http://www.htc.com/europe/product.aspx?id=15814
I even attached a screen shot of the page and under network you can clearly see HSDPA specs.
The harm of not searching and starting new threads is that it causes finding information a lot harder for everyone else when there are a ton of other threads and posts to go through. A little bit of work before posting doesn't hurt.

Magic IO chips/traces/pads for keyboard, laying in wait?

Hey all,
Does anyone have a dead HTC Magic out there?
I think HTC designed the Magic, with the intention of using the same boards for a Dream V2. That is, I think that the traces are already on the Magic, and that the IO pads are already there, waiting to be utilized by the Dream's keyboard.
Can anyone open their Magic, to see? Perhaps someone with a dead Magic?
Also, if anyone knows of some very high res pics, of all the boards in the Magic, that might work too..
Even if that was correct, and that the magic had ports which are to be used by a physical keyboard, what would you use them for?
You cant just strap on a keyboard and tape it in place

I appreciate it, but unless you have a private stash (or know of one), it might be hard. I Googled around a bit, looking for high res pics of the Magic circuit boards, but didn't find anything.
I did find a website, for $2000, that will sell you an entire disassembly process of the Magic, plus a listing of all components, with high res-pics, etc.
A little out of my price range though.

Naw, the pictures are too small. We need _high_ res pics, because we'll be looking for small pads, plus we'll need to see where the traces go, and what chip the traces connect to... and the writing on the chip, to know what it is!
We'll need some good, high res pics of someone disassembling the beast, that didn't reduce them down for a PDF or some such...
I'm hoping someone has already looked inside the dream, just to examine it when they first got it, but I haven't found any good pics from that..

Hi Guys,
having had the "pleasure" tried three other DualSim ChinaPhones, I know that our Chinese Friends (they always call everybody "my firend") are up to everything to make a few 100.000 sales.
Here I found a QWERTY WinMobile which would be a fine solution ( for DualSim AND WinMobile) if the look of the display icons wouldnt make me suspicious...
It would be kind if you guys have a visual look at it and write your opinion.
Any other QUERTY ones you know of, happy to read it too! Thanks

(...the tiny Windows-Symbol in the lower left Corner of the Display just does seem to be unusual, or am I wrong?)

My WinMo has the same layout so I wouldn't see it as unusual.

Wish me luck

Im abt to change the glass out on my wifes G2X. Any suggestions or helpful tricks would be appreciated. I took my g2x apart all the way to where you remove the glass so i have a little experience in this. Feel free to use big words.

Before(cracked) and after(pristine). This was no sweat. Easy to disassemble and reassemble. No light bleed problems for now.

Where did you purchase the glass? Did you have teardown instructions you followed? Hopefully with pictures?

The exact site we bought from i couldnt tell you, probably amazon or something similar. I watched a few videos a month or so back on how to replace a broken screen. I also have extensive assembly training in a comoetitive factory setting so i got really good at understanding hiw things go to gether as well as come apart. The tools i needed i had already but tools came with the screen i ordered(bonus). All in all after relatively minor hassel with screws (that were already stripped, im guessing it was a refab phone) i got the whole thing apart. I took my time and double checked all my work against videos from youtube. Delicacy must be taken when handling the removal of the ribons from the mother board, a whole circut needs to be lifted clear in order to take the heat sink/chassis from beind the actual lcd or whatever its called. Took the screen from the old glass in 4 very well place lifts and put it in the new frame/glass and rebuilt. I will research my youtube links in the am and post. My wife is yelling bedtime.

Hey, can you verify if your multitouch works with that replaced digitizer? It should have 10 touch points, but I've been hearing that the replacement digitizers have some issues with multitouch.

From what i can tell, multi touch is functioning properly. If it wasnt the user of the phone would be complaining. no hickups as of yet, wich is suprising. Is there any way i can check all ten of these touch nodes to see if they are all working properly?

Edit: answered my own question with a google, search found this site.

Or, you could use the MultiTouch Test App from the Play store. It's free. Hopefully the digitizer I bought has working Multitouch.
