Im really desperate because I cant use the GPS device on my Jade for a month now! No application is able to use the GPS device on my phone.
If I try IGO as example it always says "no gps device found". I tryed HTC GPS tool and switched all ports on but no luck anyway...
If I try port 3 with baudrate 57600 it opens somehow but nothing happens. If I close it again it gives me an error message saying "WaitCommEvent failed.."
There is also a issue with QuickGPS, it cant uptade anymore. Everytime I click uptade it says immidiatly "error connecting, please try again later"
Im totally punshed and have no clue what to do anymore. And please avoid answers like "do hardware reset or send to warranty"
Thanks in advanche
is nobody able to help me?
Are you using stock or cooked rom? If cooked, it may be ur radio that is making ur GPS not work, so give us more info.
Also when did it stop working, had you just installed some software etc?
You will see many people say different configurations regarding baud rates etc, personally i recommend that you leave it configured to "let windows control".
If your quick gps is not updating, then a cold gps lock could take upto 10 mins. Go out side, get google maps on screen (remember to configure both external gps & google maps to "let windows.....") and ensure google maps is set to use gps. Then wait and wait to see if u get a gps lock or not.
Get back with more info on rom, software ok?
Cheers.
Thanks for the reply!
Im using the original stock rom for my Touch 3g (jade). I dont think I installed any (important) software before my GPS failed. My GPS is controlled by Windows and yes I already tryed setting them manually up without luck.
The 10min outside thing also didnt worked
Man thats wierd, you say that quick gps doesnt work either?
Have a look through your software additions and give me a list of magor ones.
Its unusual for gps to stop working in stock rom, you might have to face upto backing up any programs, contacts etc (not registry) and get ready for a hard reset.
If that doesnt work then you know its hard ware related.
But before all that, look further.
I already faced its a really strange problem :S
After dozens of failed tryings I finally made a Hard reset. I hate it to install everything again, configure everything again etc...
Now QuickGPS is able to do Uptades and my software is able to find the GPS device like IGO as example. But why do I still dont find any Satelites ?!?
This makes me such angry that I want to run against a wall
If youve done a hard reset and not played with any settings, then it looks like you have a faulty gps unit, as much as i hate to say it, id contact your supplier if its in warranty still. Sorry mate, but there is nothing else you can do but that.

GPS was working fine for Google Maps and Live Search with the ATT ROM. After upgrading to the HTC ROM I had to manually tell both apps which COM port to look for the GPS on to get them to work (although I couldn't get the camera to see the GPS because I don't know where to specify the COM port).
Now, I accidentally opened the External GPS utility and, even though I didn't make any changes, none of the previous apps can connect to GPS. I know this problem has been reported before and the solution has been to do a hard reset but I though I would check and see if anyone has found a way to get it working again without a hard reset.
I installed Dutty ROM Duttys_Official_WM6.1_Rom_5.2.19716_UC si radio KAIS_Radinly_1.64.08.21, also iGo installed. I can't use my iGo program because when I try do detect the GPS chip from statellits connection page the PDA freeze when discover it (i can see this because the GPS led turns on). I can tell you that I update already the position using QuickGPS and after that GPSTool I can connect to sattelits. What shoud I do?
Thanks a lot

Disable the HTC Home clock and see the IGO program work like a charm.

And If you have more questions maybe put it in the relevant thread. HERE
Also I think you may have a burned up GPS chip. Try a different GPS program. GPSTest or something. But It would be better if you posted in the Thread that deals with Problems in the rom you are using.
two suggestions:
first: see if u have a-gps enabled. if so: disable and try again
second: try another rom... find one that's best for you.
i dont see how htc home plugin can affect this because i tested all possible combinations w&w/o it enabled and nothing changed. I had the same issue, igo freezing with dutty's wm 6.1 ROM when configuring and turning off assisted gps helped, as stated above.
My GPS worked fine with iGo until I changed the ROM (I had Dutty's ROM nr. 4). And that link that you give me, Jimmy, is related to HTC Home. I don't use it, like I said before.
Help please...

I'm not sure it's a ROM problem. iGo 6 itelf seems to have a problem dealing with AGPS. Mine also freezes after a while if AGPS is turned on.
I just leave it off and everything seems to work fine.
/drt
one thing i did was turning off the igo today plugin..and reboot..that should partially remove the conflict..
There are actually three different kinds of iGo problems I've seen with the various ROMs I've tried:
- Installation won't complete. Often, iGo will run anyway if you just do a soft reset when the installation halts. Often it won't.
- iGo runs, but once configured to find the GPS COM port, it hangs and hangs every time it starts after that. It may be related to AGPS, but I've seen this in ROMs that do not have that enabled by default. Also, I have no data plan and, as a result, no data connection with the tower.
- iGo installs, but won't start at all. Trying to start it results in a little screen opening animation, but nothing appears. The device is sluggish for a moment, then it's as if you never attempted to start it at all. This is the problem I have with Dutty's latest ROM. This almost certainly not related to AGPS since iGo has no GPS configuration immediately after installation. I don't believe it is related to the HTC Home plugin, since iGo runs fine for me on the AT&T test ROM, and it has the plugin.

This is definitely a conflict with the music tab of HTC Home, but only on some 6.1 ROMs (curiously not build 716 though). This problem doesn't occur in any 6.0 ROMs that I know of. It's not the plugin per se, but some component of the Today screen configuration that's causing the problem.

Is it sufficient to uncheck the plugin in the Today configuration and soft reset or is something more drastic required to resolve the conflict? The instructions linked to in an earlier posting seemed more like a series of black magic steps that happened to work.
Many of you have experienced the GPS lag, here is how to fix it!
1. Make sure that you have radio version: 1.02.25.28
If you dont have it you can download it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437219
Make sure you read all the instructions on how to flash before doing it, you need to unlock your device with hard spl or you will BRICK your device!
After flashing the radio make sure it is correct by checking in settings>device info under radio version it should say: 1.02.25.28
If you have done any registry tweaks or other updated trying to fix the gps lag according to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888, then please do a hard reset of you device, or this will not work!
You could also try flashing a new rom to further improve your device speed and stability!
I recomend the folowing rom that can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426099
2. Install Advanced config (Can be found on this forum!)
And disable "Assisted GPS" Reboot your device!
Method 1:
TomTom
Start TomTom and go to gps settings and choose "Other NMEA", then set the baud rate to 38400 and choose COM4:
Thats it, everything should now work just fine!
BeeLineGPS
1. Click on tools>GPS>Setup Serial Port (Comm Port).
Choose COM4: and set the Baud rate to 38400, then check
"Enable auto reconnect"!
2. Go in to Tools>Configuration>Map Properties... Under "Filters" Untick the box that says "Enable Track Filter",
this will make sure that the software does not drop the GPS connection every few secounds!
Method 2:
If method 1 did not work for you then you can try method 2 instead!
1. Make sure that you have radio version: 1.02.25.28 (Link)
2. Download and install (GPS Test)
3. Download and install attached file (GPS Tweaks)
4. Start TomTom and go to gps settings and choose "Other NMEA", then set the baud rate to 38400 and choose COM4:
5. Close TomTom
6. Start GPS Test, under GPS settings select com port automatic and baud rate 38400. Once it says GPS running, minimise the program then start up Tomtom.
7. Remember to always run GPSTest before starting TomTom, then when GPS Test gets a fix, minimize and run TomTom.
!!NOTE!!
If you have done everything accordingly, and you still experience the GPS lag it is IMPORTANT that you let us know exactly what you have done, and if you have skipped any step! This will help us get better understanding trying to resolve this issue!
Remember, this thread is ment to help understand and resolve the GPS lag issue, so please help us understand by describing both your before and after experience, and be sure to let us know exactly what you did, and if it helped or not!
I will keep this first post updated according to the finds and soloutions we find!

I might give it a try, but if I have to hardflash it wont it remove my warranty for my phone?
It's vodafone branded..
[EDIT]
Excuse me for the stupid remark hehe.. HardSPL is a way to protect your ROM so you WILL keep warranty.. ill look into it how to get this new rom, you've convinced me!
Now I'm just curious, where can I find this program "HardSPL" ? searching didnt help, or it might because im very tired

Awesome man!! thanks!
Just one question though..
Can I backup my Radio ROM via HardSPL or does it do that automatically when I INSTALL Hard-SPL on my device? (I'm about to flash that one)
Im just scared something will happen and new to the WM scene.. so want to have everything covered
[EDIT]
Just Hard-SPL flashed and Radio flashed.. Everything seems to be working fine
Now I started up TomTom and went here:
Setup > GPS Receiver (and click Setup there) > Other NMEA GPS-Receiver.
In this menu I could setup baud rate, set it to 38.400.
I did not see anything about COM4 though, but ill go outside and test it right now

It will definitly not backup your current radio rom when installed... You can try to do a full backup of your device, there's a thread somewhere on this board on how to do that (not sure where, I never backed up my device...), but I'm not sure if it'll backup the radio rom as well...
Hard-SPL will replace the current SPL on your device, but I believe in the thread for Hard-SPL, there's a tool to go back to your original SPL for warranty purposes if you need. I flashed the Hard-SPL shortly after it came out, and have not have any problems at all or needed to restore the previous one.
As for radio roms, just take a note of what is currenty on the device, if the above one does not work to your liking, you can always flash back the one you had... Most if not all radios are available in a thread on this board.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: looking at your edit, looks like you don't need me... Lol...
@guitarguy: Thanks for the help anyways hehe
@branko.savic: Hey how long did it take you before you got a GPS signal?
I've setup everything like you did, but in "Other NMEA" I did not get the question about COM-ports..
I can not get ANY signal at all now, I've waited 5 full minutes for a signal and the same was when I changed back from "Other NMEA" to "Internal GPS Device"
Previously (with the old ROM) GPS got the signal quite rapidly (< 1minute), only the pedestrian mode sucked, thats the reason I'm trying this
I am sure I am missing something, but what?

Hmm, that sounds strange!
The only thing I can think of why you are not getting the COM4ption is if you have altered the external GPS settings!
Go to External GPS and select COM4 for GPS-PROGRAM port, and then select to manage automaticly!
That should get the option visible in tomtom!
Also do not forget to disable a-GPS with advance config!
Good luck!
Hey I found the problem..
I went to External GPS and the GPS-Programport in tab "Programs" was set to "(none)" and the "Automatic GPS" in the "access tab" wasnt crossed.
I kept trying to cross them and press OK, but it doesnt seem to save the data.. I keep trying to alter it to COM4 and Automatic GPS, but everytime I open the External options again its gone.. I tried to reboot but doesnt matter neither..really odd!
[EDIT]
FIXED IT!
I went scrolling through my registery with Total Commander, and found out I accidentaly changed "CurrentControlSet" into "t" ...now everything is set, and im going to test GPS!
[EDIT2]
Okay tried again.. All settings are correct, like this:
External GPS > COM4 and Automatic GPS on
TomTom > "Other NMEA" on Baud 38.400
AC > A-GPS OFF
Tried to reboot and such, but I cant get any signal outside!
What else could be the problem now?

Does it find any sattelites at all if you watch the bars in TomTom?
Otherwise I would try with quick GPS, maybe the gps data is outdated?
If nothing else helps try a hard reset!

It can take 5-10mins to get a fix (even though it can see over 7 sats with good signal) WITHOUT QuickGPS. Update QuickGPS and it will solve the fix problem.
I updated QuickGPS and tried to get a signal, but only for 2 minutes.. ill try for a bit longer then! After that I tried a hard reset (VOLUME DOWN+ENTER and stylus) which somehow didnt succeed for me lol... I keep getting into the tricolor boot menu instead of the message "This will hard reset your phone"...
the ENTER button is the one on the keyboard right?
Tomtom VGA Black 7.451 is what im using, and I have 0 sattelites according to TomTom

Oh lol.. I was allready wondering why it took me so much effort.. I just did a hard reset.. lets see whats going to happen now!
Brako, it did not show a GPS signal...
Though I did a hard reset and NOW it shows a signal!
If I try to change to "Other NMEA Device" it ALSO shows the COM4 option!
I am going to install advanced config, turn off A-GPS (if its not off allready) and then test the GPS again! I have a positive feeling about this though
[EDIT]
AWESOME!! It works man!! SWEET! I'll drive a bit tomorrow to see if the mapping is better now...
Just one thing.. the TomTom of my sister asks if you want a pedestrian route or short route or fast route or avoid highways etc..
I dont get that option.. I'll figure it out its something inside my tomtom settings.. Im using tomtom vgablack 7.451 btw

By default A-GPS is not disabled, you have to do that so that TomTom doesnt drop the signal every few secounds!
But everything should work fine now!
Keep me posted!
Ok, so I KNOW I'm probably opening myself up here for some flaming, but at this point willing to take a chance... I've seen it somewhere, but no amount of searching is turning the answer up for me again. I have a Touch Pro and need to get TomTom Home to connect to my device, but it will not do so. I'd like to do this so that I can get some maps. I have the application installed in ProgramFiles\Navigator which is where, in my understanding, it should be. Any tips?
Its not that you'll get the GPS straight on, specially while sitting at a place..
The way i got it is via setting the GPS as Internal-GPS in TomTom and drove for a while..
I can tell you that it works as i was also getting suspicious that its broken or something but however it lags a little bit.. Once the satellites are found then there is no issue using TomTom as a pedestrian..
I still couldn't find why it works sometimes and why it doesn't..

Haha, no no, I know of the lag. I'm speaking of the TomTom Home program for my PC. I'd like to be able to connect the device to my PC and install new maps, use mapshare, etc. But since you mention it, hopefully someone comes up with a real solution for the lag problem on the device.
By the way, I am speaking of TomTom Home 2... I can connect to the other just fine but it doesn't really help me.
anyone? I know I've seen it somewhere. A link would even be appreciated!
There is no way to get tomtom 7 USA maps straight foward so far. May be after at&t Fuze launch?
The solution now is log in to your tomtom home acount and choose tomtom 720 as your device. Buy the maps, save them into you PC then manually copy to your SD card. Install tomtom cab is floating around in this forum, then re-connect to tomtom home to download extra voices and maps corrections.
Right, I have all that so far. My problem is TomTom Home doesn't recognize my device at all. It just keeps the 3 step menu up that basically says "connect your device".
same problem too
Guys, I have a rather stupid question, and feel free to flame my newbness on the question all you want, I'm just trying to find an answer, for like monthes now...
I have NEVER been able to get my GPS to work, not even once.... It's been a problem for so long, that I eventually just told myself, well I guess I have to pay AT&T for that..... but I don't see why that's the case....
I have tried all of the programs, HTCGPSTool, QuickGPS, Google Maps, etc, all with multiple ROMs.... Right now I'm flashing the Official Update to see if I can get it working with that, but I'm truly dumbfounded.... It has never once, ever gotten a lock, or even found satellites.... It's making me want to bring my fuze to warranty center to try and get a new one
Information about my device:
I have installed HardSPL, usually run EnergyROM latest build, with Radio 1.14.25.05
I've had the phone since last Nov so something different has always been running on it, and not ONCE has my GPS worked for me....
Any ideas?
Thanks
Try first turning on ChartCross GPSTEST (in GPS folder on Energy Rom) wait for lock and then turn on your desired GPS program. BTW Google maps only works with aGPS (needs internet). I recommend TomTom (what I use), iGo or Gramin.

I recently gave up on the hit and miss of Pocket CoPilot v6, and now I just load GPSToday to run in the background to get the sat connection and now PCP works like a champ. FINALLY!

garmin is so much nicer than tomtom. the interface is prettier and easier to use. it does cost alot though. i thought it was worth it.

I'll try that one next, and post back the results, thanks for the recommendation
i would recommend u change ur radio to 1.12.25.19 and install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468249 <-- its a program called fusion GPS that gets a lock upon restarting ur device so u wont have to wait for that long dreadful first time lock. also that Radio is the best GPS radio i have found so far, works even faster with aGPS, i have used that radio and i get like 3-15sec lock outside and 30-80 sec lock inside my house, depending on if am close to a window or not

it always keeps timing out after the five minute interval.... maybe because my data connection doesn't auto-start on boot.... any way I can make that happen? but even when i do go start it, it still times out... seems ChartCross has been the best for me, and with aGPS, it will get a lock pretty quickly

garmin is so much nicer than tomtom. the interface is prettier and easier to use. it does cost alot though. i thought it was worth it.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I've had this exact same problem when also running latest Energy rom with radio 1.14.25.05, (I also have a lot of problems keeping a constant wifi connection even at full signal but thats another story).
This morning i flashed back to my original stock rom (vodafone uk) and although i had to wait FOUTY FIVE minutes for my first GPS signal i now have no problems with the latest version of TomTom and my uptodate USA & Canada map (i now live in Montreal)
Im going to run the stock rom for a day or two to see how it should run, then switch back to the Energy "Magic" rom as i really like that one out of all the 6.5 Roms.
Very strange.
Still the only way I can get it to work on a cooked ROM, is to use ChartCrossGPSTest.... wait until it says GPS Running, and go launch TomTom, leave ChartCross minimized
