Can't create new Wi-Fi with HP Ipaq 514 - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

Hi,
I have an HP Ipaq 514 Voice messenger and using the 2.05 ROm update that HP officialy released. I enable wi-fi, it searches for wireless and says "Available"; but it doesn't connect to anywhere, it doesn't recognize the settings for the "avaliable" connections.
I go to Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi but the list is empty and worse yet, there is no "New" menu. So I can't create a new wi-fi connection myself. The left button says "Connect", right button says "Menu" which has only one element saying "Select" (but grayed out)
Before, when wi-fi opens, it was telling you "New connections found" in a popping screen. Now it doesn't pop-up.
I may have clicked "don't show again" when it popped up, or maybe a software caused it.. But I cannot find a setting to revert it back. I also searched the registry but got no luck. And I don't know how the hell "New.." menu gets disappeared..
Any ideas?

WM5 Bluetooth GPS Issues - RESOLVED!!!

Hello All,
Just got my Atom working with Bluetooth GPS (Leadtek 9537). Others seem to be having issues as well, so thought I'd post a solution.
Spent a little time looking for a solution but couldn't find one posted here.
I was having problem connecting as my GPS Software (Desinator PN) was not seeing the GPS comm port.
Extract from wm5fixsite
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the new OUTGOING port to 8.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start PN and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close PN.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now set GPS Program Port to COM 8 (before we set it up at 0).
6. In BT Manager create a new OUTGOING COM port as COM0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE for both hardware and program ports.
8. Finally start PN and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.

Big Buttons.
I assume therefore that you have PN working? How did you resolve the "Big Button" problem of Destinator PN in WM5. I have been told by the local agent that a WM5 fix is several months away in Oz?
I don't know of any big button problem
PN is working with no issues for me. Cept I can't get the TExt to Speach working

This is where it all goes pear-shaped for me, Cam. Com0 isn't there (or free).
Kevin
Make sure the
"Manage GPS Automatically (recommended) is checked in
The Access Tab of Settings >> GPS
Yep...had that checked....
Yeah mine just screwed up and I'm having issues reconnecting.
I'll figure it out and let you know
Cam
Okay It worked for me if I started from Scratch
Delete Bluetooth GPS
Set all Control Panel GPS settings to None
Load PN and Go to GPS settings and save and Close PN
Then re add Bluetooth GPS and do the procedure above.
Worked for me again.
Nah ...tried that a gazillion times. Sometimes I get Comm 0 in the PN settings, and if I close it and re-open it it's changed to Comm 2 instead.
Seems I'm doomed to 3.075 till they bring out a patch.
Kevin
Yeah that happened to me too.
You need to do it exactly in the correct order with nothing inbetween.
But if that doesn't work. Dunno.
3.075 isn't too bad. PN just looks different and calcuates faster.
I can't get Text to Speech working. Anyone else had issues with it?
WM5 and bluetooth GPS
Cam, thanks for the advice. Have finally managed to get my GPS connected to the Atom. Unfortunately I now get a "GPS not found" error periodically. Destinator PN then reconnects to the GPS but will come up with the same error again sometime later. There doesn't seem to many rythm to when the GPS drops out. Has anybody else experienced this and if so is there a fix???

Does vox have an inactivated GPS capability?

Hi eveybody,
Strange thing that I noticed today when I installed googlemaps. Whenever I click the button for GPS, in the topmost bar there is a message saying "connecting to GPS satellites". After a while it says "unable to connect" and takes me to the page regarding the need to be in an open area blah blah.
What I want to know is that if inbuilt GPS functionality is present on this device? If yes, then how to activate it?
Thanks
No the Vox doesnt have integrated GPS receiver

Making WIFI Acting More Like The iPhone

Hey Everyone,
After picking up the tilt a few days ago, I've really started to like it. I did the hard reset to get rid of all the ATT junk, got Garmin XT, put on a new theme, used HTC Home Customizer and JiveTalk.
There is one more thing that is aggravating me and I was wondering if you guys had any sort of remedy.
My roommate has the iPhone and when his WIFI is on it simply connects to our router when in range, and disconnects and switchs to Edge when not in range. If he wants to connect to another network at someone else's house he goes to settings - wifi - and then picks their network and enters the network key. If he is out and doesn't pick one, it says in Stand-By mode.
Is there a way to make the WM6 do this? I'm constantly having the wireless manager pop-up and inform me of new wireless networks and its getting sort of aggrivating.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
Assuming you're running WM6 and not WM6.1, all you have to do is, whenever a popup notification for New Network Found pops up, you tap the right softkey, and choose "Don't Display This Message Again." You may have to do that a couple times in case it doesn't stick.
By the way, only WM6.1 actually has that option on the surface. Silly Microsoft.

Didn't know that, thanks.

Problem: Omnia, programs cant connect through GPRS, but opera can!

ok, here is the deal, im going to try to be as specific as possible so i dont cause too much trouble. Thank you in advance!
Phone: Omnia
Version: Lite02
Provider: Wind Greece
Problem: I used to be able to connect to the internet ONLY through my wi-fi connection. In order to "reprogram" the whole deal (under settings > connections > connections) i deleted all the settings there thinking i could do it correct if i started from scratch.. what i fool i was.
Exactly what i did: I installed the Htc_Network_Wizard_GR (in order to get the greek settings automatically for wind. Also, i installed a cab which added a "Opera Widgets" program - cab's name: echOpera Mobile 9.5 b2520.
Current situation: Under connections i got Wind Internet, which apparently has the correct GPRS settings, because, when i set it under advanced > Select Networks > Programs that automaticaly connect to internet:, AND select the Opera browser to use that connection to connect to the internet, Opera DOES connect and show pages JUST FINE! on top of that when i pass from Opera a youtube video to CorePlayer to play it.. It DOEs!
Now, EVERY other program that uses internet doesnt seem to find the connection!! for example, youtubeplay, when i press feed: top rated, it IMMEDIATELY sends message "search failed, internet connection not working or timeout." Same goes for: SPB weather, Insight, and even the built-in e-mail (from the windows)
A secondary problem, is that now, every program, INCLUDING the Opera browser, DOESNT find as an internet connection my wifi! meaning, although i connect nicely to the only source i could go online from my omnia, now thats gone too. In addition, where i think the problem with that one is, Under Wifi > Network Adapters > My network card connects to > there is NOTHING to select from.. how do i change this?

Thanx for your time reading.

ok, an update, ive come to the conclusion that i *probably* need to restore some registry keys in order to make this god damned phone work at last.. anyone who can provide me with a cab probably? which can restore the previous settings? :S
dont make me format the phone again. please.
you could ring the provider and ask them to send you setting to your

Stop WinMobile establishing data-connections without asking

Hey mates!
First of all I wanna wish you a hapy new year
Ok, now to my question.
I've got a HTC Touch HD a week ago.
I recognized that it establishes a data-connection without asking me.
When i'm using Wifi - no problem.
But as I don't have a data-flat that gets quite expensive, if I can't use Wifi (most of the time no wifi available).
Is it possible to set up Winmobile so that it asks me BEFORE establishing an data connection?
I didn't find any solutions, google didn't help me, too.
Of yourse I could just change the adresses in the settings.
e.g- "internet.t-mobile.de" to "internet.t-mobile.deXXX" ---> no connection possible.
But i want to receive and send MMS at any time, so that would not be possible any more.
I hope you can help me, thx.
greetz
try nodata
this should do what you need....i think
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
thx, but not really what i need.
With this programm i still have to close connections by hand.
I just want WinMobile to ask me BEFORE it establishes a connection.
For example: When I open an programm which tries to download something, a popup should appear
--->
Establish data-connection?
[ ]Yes
[ ] NO
I hope u understand my problem

No one with the same problem here and a solutuon?

I have the same problem with my Touch 3G (Jade). Turning the Data Connection off in the Main Touchflow settings tab helps but doesn't stop it completely. The worst thing is that doesn't seem to download anything but just connecting is enough to start costing.
I spoke to HTC today and they gave me a solution to this problem. Go to Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced and then Select Networks. There you should find a drop down tab with something like ******GPRS, where ****** is your network. Now now choose New and create a new connection name like "No GPRS" for example. Click OK.
You now have a title but no settings so when you select this one, the phone can't connect to the internet. It might attempt to connect but it won't go through. Don't worry about MMS as this uses a different set of settings and works perfectly (for me).
Hope this helps, Woolly.
Find what apps are creating the connection so you can prevent it. Spb Monitor should be able to show you that.
Using Modaco NoData (link given above) will just do the same saving your time (you don't have to create a fake connection set).
What schlitzohr1812 wants is a way to make WM ask for permission to connect. I haven't heard of anything like this, but if you assign a shortcut to NoData it's almost as easy as what you are looking for. By the way, despite the name, NoData will prevent WM from opening connections, not only to exchange data over them.
Just remember that if you disable the connection while it is already open, you still have to close it manually. Also beware that if in your Comm Manager you have an enabled "Data connection" button (on some phones it's always disabled when the connection is closed, on others it can be used to open it), that button WILL open a connection even if they are disabled.
Thx for helping guys, but "Black Antitoon" is right.
That's not exactly what I was searching for but better than nothing.
I'm used to my old nokia phone (N70) which asked me before.
Incomprehensible why Windows Mobile does not have such an option...
greetz Timo
anybody wrote an app for this data permission yet please?
