Hey Everyone,
After picking up the tilt a few days ago, I've really started to like it. I did the hard reset to get rid of all the ATT junk, got Garmin XT, put on a new theme, used HTC Home Customizer and JiveTalk.
There is one more thing that is aggravating me and I was wondering if you guys had any sort of remedy.
My roommate has the iPhone and when his WIFI is on it simply connects to our router when in range, and disconnects and switchs to Edge when not in range. If he wants to connect to another network at someone else's house he goes to settings - wifi - and then picks their network and enters the network key. If he is out and doesn't pick one, it says in Stand-By mode.
Is there a way to make the WM6 do this? I'm constantly having the wireless manager pop-up and inform me of new wireless networks and its getting sort of aggrivating.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
Assuming you're running WM6 and not WM6.1, all you have to do is, whenever a popup notification for New Network Found pops up, you tap the right softkey, and choose "Don't Display This Message Again." You may have to do that a couple times in case it doesn't stick.
By the way, only WM6.1 actually has that option on the surface. Silly Microsoft.

Didn't know that, thanks.

I cooked my own WM6 using Hypercore and TNT Vanilla as a base. I added a 7-button HTC CommManager from the original WM5. It all works fine and connects to WiFi with WEP, no problems. However, after I shut the phone off and back on, sometimes it'll re-connect automatically, but sometimes it won't. The "Multiple Wireless Networks Detected" window pops up whenever it doesn't auto re-connect. WM5 always re-connected so I know it's not the router. Is there some registry hack or tweak I need to do to make it always re-connect?
While I'm at it, I might as well ask a few burning questions:
- How do I link the Wireless Manager link on the Connectivity popup and Home Screen to CommManager?
- How do I get the CommManager icon at the bottom lower right of the screen to display connection status like WM5 did? Right now it looks the same all the time.
- How to change the OS version number?
- How to change the default time zone from a hard reset?
- How to change the text in the Settings/About/Version?
- How to change the default Device name in Settings/About/Device ID?
I plan to do some research on those questions tomorrow, but I figure I might as well ask while I'm making a post.
Got since a couple of weeks the Polaris, also my first Windows Mobile device. And it is great
But got a (simple?) question, when my phone has no signal, but do want to establish a data connection, I get a pop-up which says something like "Trying to set up data connection...". But of course this is impossible, so it disappears and a second later a new pop-up pops up... And this goes on, and on and on. I can't do anything with the phone because I always get that stupid pop up. Is there any solution for this? Disabling the whole pop up is no problem (got a unlimited data plan).
Thanks in advance,
Fabian

If you are familiar with hacking the registry:
; Disable pop-up notification bubble when starting a wireless data call
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{8ddf 46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}]
"Options"=dword:00000000
Hi JNGold
Fantastic, been looking for this.
Many thanks and keep up the good work.

I'm also very thankful to you!
Hey mates!
First of all I wanna wish you a hapy new year
Ok, now to my question.
I've got a HTC Touch HD a week ago.
I recognized that it establishes a data-connection without asking me.
When i'm using Wifi - no problem.
But as I don't have a data-flat that gets quite expensive, if I can't use Wifi (most of the time no wifi available).
Is it possible to set up Winmobile so that it asks me BEFORE establishing an data connection?
I didn't find any solutions, google didn't help me, too.
Of yourse I could just change the adresses in the settings.
e.g- "internet.t-mobile.de" to "internet.t-mobile.deXXX" ---> no connection possible.
But i want to receive and send MMS at any time, so that would not be possible any more.
I hope you can help me, thx.
greetz
try nodata
this should do what you need....i think
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
thx, but not really what i need.
With this programm i still have to close connections by hand.
I just want WinMobile to ask me BEFORE it establishes a connection.
For example: When I open an programm which tries to download something, a popup should appear
--->
Establish data-connection?
[ ]Yes
[ ] NO
I hope u understand my problem

No one with the same problem here and a solutuon?

I have the same problem with my Touch 3G (Jade). Turning the Data Connection off in the Main Touchflow settings tab helps but doesn't stop it completely. The worst thing is that doesn't seem to download anything but just connecting is enough to start costing.
I spoke to HTC today and they gave me a solution to this problem. Go to Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced and then Select Networks. There you should find a drop down tab with something like ******GPRS, where ****** is your network. Now now choose New and create a new connection name like "No GPRS" for example. Click OK.
You now have a title but no settings so when you select this one, the phone can't connect to the internet. It might attempt to connect but it won't go through. Don't worry about MMS as this uses a different set of settings and works perfectly (for me).
Hope this helps, Woolly.
Find what apps are creating the connection so you can prevent it. Spb Monitor should be able to show you that.
Using Modaco NoData (link given above) will just do the same saving your time (you don't have to create a fake connection set).
What schlitzohr1812 wants is a way to make WM ask for permission to connect. I haven't heard of anything like this, but if you assign a shortcut to NoData it's almost as easy as what you are looking for. By the way, despite the name, NoData will prevent WM from opening connections, not only to exchange data over them.
Just remember that if you disable the connection while it is already open, you still have to close it manually. Also beware that if in your Comm Manager you have an enabled "Data connection" button (on some phones it's always disabled when the connection is closed, on others it can be used to open it), that button WILL open a connection even if they are disabled.
Thx for helping guys, but "Black Antitoon" is right.
That's not exactly what I was searching for but better than nothing.
I'm used to my old nokia phone (N70) which asked me before.
Incomprehensible why Windows Mobile does not have such an option...
greetz Timo
anybody wrote an app for this data permission yet please?
Hi,
when the wifi signal is lost or activesync is dsconnected, my HTC TouchPro automatically tries to switch to GPRS connection. like when i start browser or messenger application it turns GPRS by default.
My question is: have anybody seen the application or tweak that would show the dialogue window BEFORE the gprs connection established, something like
"application XXX tries to use GPRS connection. and two buttons: Allow|Deny"
that's actually all we need to control GPRS expences, especially when in roaming. (yes, i know about "no data in roaming" app). sometimes it goes like this: you're sure you're online using wifi, and browse or download a film or music. BUT, in the middle of the process the wifi connection is lost, but you didn't notice it, the device switched to GPRS automatically without notice and questions, so the rest of your download becomes golden for you.
if there were such an app with a simple two-buttons-dialogue, life would be easier for all of us... is there?
I have been dreaming for the same thing for like years
actually i had the same problem,
i was browsing comfortably using wifi, but unknown to me, when the signal got interrupted, it switched to GPRS...
actually we would know if we look at the icon, but it's absurd to look at the icon every once in a while...
so, my solution was... to call up the provider, and have them terminate the GPRS service.
it might not serve you any good, since you probably still need the option to be able to go online when there's no wifi, but it served my purpose really well.
So, as i can see, it's not just my whim - it's really necessary add-on. are here some advanced members, coders who are able to solve it? afaik, this feature is not available in winmobile itself, but somehow implemented by Nokia, for example.
Got IT!
guys,
i found the solution. it appears much easier than i expected: just check the
start/settings/sounds and notifications/notifications - connection established. [i have localized WM version, menu strings in english version may vary from my translation. so, just find something close by meaning]
that's it!
good luck.
Yes, I always set it like that so I know it connects with GPRS/3G but I won't still ask me if I want to connect or not, the notification is only good way to try to disconnect it quickly... if I am the one using the phone but if someone else is using it, it's just worthless.
This took me a while, but I finally figured it out through trial and error. I know there are a few options out there for tethering, but this has always been the preferred way to tether when I was using the Diamond. It's wireless, you can initiate the connection from the PC, and it gives you better battery life than WMWiFiRouter or HTC Wifi Sharing. Best of all, you DO NOT need to initiate a DATA connection on the phone before connecting to your PC! Just fire up the BT DUN connection on your PC, click Dial, then browse the web!
Here's how we do this:
Install DotFred's TaskManager
Click select Menu, Tab Options, Select Tab, Services. Find "CM Guardian", click and hold until menu pop up and select "Set Manual".
Make the following changes on your TP2 with a Registry editor:
1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll"
2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint"
3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\Wmodem]
Check Profile=0
Connected=0
Multi-NAI=0
WModemDUN=0
4. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\DUNServ er\ControlPanel]
Enabled=1
That's it! Re-pair your TP2 to your PC and BT DUN should be available as one of the services. Create a new DUN profile on your PC, leave username and password blank, and set dial number as #777. Click dial and you should be able to connect... just like old times.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been ripping my hair out over this. However, I am on Verizon and thus my HTC Touch Pro2 has somewhat different entries in the registry than Sprint does. Does anyone know how to get DUN working with the HTC Touch Pro2 on Verizon? I bought a laptop specifically with Bluetooth just to use my phone as the modem but cannot get it working for my life.
After I did all the registry edits I could that you mentioned (even though all of them were not available since I'm on a different provider) I noticed when I try to dial out for a SPLIT second I will see "Dial Up Networking" listed under Bluetooth services. Windows promptly gives me a dialing error and that service on my phone disappears.
Anyone can give any pointers?
I don't have a Service called "CM Guardian". I have a custom ROM, would that make a difference?

Yes, some Rom chefs may have eliminated this service. I know MightyMike left it in his Rom, but I have not tested others on the TP2.

Would this service be in WM6.5? If I download MightyMike's ROM would it be in there or is it only in WM6.1?
Thanks for this.

MightyMike's Rom does indeed have CMGaurdian. I cannot speak for other TP2 Roms, but his does.
KD8FRE
Can anyone give any pointers on getting this to work on the Verizon version of the phone? Been searching high and low!
There is no "CMGaurdian" on my phone. I did a full search for it and it's nowhere to be found. I have the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 rom. But it looks like without being able to set that as manual, I have to change the registry everytime I end up having to restart my phone. But even when I do that, it still goes back to phone as modem after a few minutes instead of staying on Sprint.
Awesome!
Thanks for the info. The connection sharing wasn't working for me anyway.
Just an FYI, you can optionally edit the registery to set the CMGuardian to Manual.
Open a reg editor and navigate to [HKLM\Services\CMGuardian]
Locate the Index key and change the value from 2 (default) to 1.
So anyone on Sprint TP2 with 6.5 stock rom actually got Wmodem to work? I've spent about 24 hr trying just about everything with no luck so far.
I made all the above reg changes, have WModem v02 installed on my TP2. Activate the wmodem prog, connect to computer with usb cable. When i try to connect on my computer, it stucked on verifying user name and pass. There is some sort of data connection going on on the phone itself, but the computer connected to the phone couldn't seem to go pass that "verifying user name and pass"
Much appreciated any help or comment. Thanks
Just wanted to add that I found this thread useful, got the registry entries and made a cab for it. This is for Sprint only! Download, install, and go, no need for registry editing!
Problem tethering via Bluetooth DUN to pspgo
Ok, I am pulling MY hair out on my ATT tilt 2. I am trying to use my fone as a bluetooth modem for my pspgo.
It seems that my Tilt 2 receives the data from the pspgo, but its not sending any data to the pspgo, when I test the connection the tilt2 receives about 9-16 bytes, but it says sent: 0 bytes.
I have energyROM july 16 2010 WWE winmo 6.5
Manilla 2.5.20161332.0
Build: 23563.5.5.0
I have seen vids of people doing this on the Raphael (FUZE) and other phones
I keep getting this connection error on my psp: (8030000B) I have tried so many dial #'s, changing settings, PDAnet,
I think the problem has something to do with:
it being WinMo 6.5 or
The custom ROM has disabled something in the Bluetooth or
Since the ROM is custom, the psp wont recognize this for some reason because just like the WIFI router; the carrier doesn't know I'm tethering. or
I have the wrong Dial-up # or
Authentication settings or Initialization command is wrong or
I need to use a Proxy network
Some other reason ( The ROMS BT stack) whatever that is lol
Does anyone have this or similar problem? Or know whats happening here?
Any help would be awesome!
Thank you
Worked Perfectly
After making the changes you suggested, this worked perfectly on my TP2. It's so funny, after I initially got my TP2 and tried it, I instantly gave up. Now that I'm a month away from going to a new carrier, and most likely a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, I got really interested in getting this working. It was a breeze using the Resco Explorer Demo with included Registry Editor.
TP2 Stock WM6.5
Doesnt work for me. I dont have CMGuardian.
I went ahead and edited the registry anyway and still didnt work even after rebooting.
I'm hoping someone can help figure this out... Trying to tether with my new Xoom!
Thanks a lot defcon6, I was looking for this some time ago, but no look, but know, looking for some other thing i found it, thanks again
Same here, stock 6.5 rom and no CMGuardian. Did you ever figure this out?
Never mind, I did run the cab from pengc99 and it worked fine. After soft reset of the phone, it never got out of the "modem negotiating" state but running the cab again fixed it. Now if I just could find the equivalent to CMGuradian I would be all set but this is at least working.
Bluetooth setting to ALWAYS ON?
Thanks to this thread and the pengc99 file, I successfully (quite some time ago) paired my TP2 via the bluetooth to a Nexus 7 tablet as well as an android phone, but each time I turn on the phone, I have to go through the following steps:
1. Select Communication Manager
2. Turn ON the Data Connection
2. Click on Bluetooth
3. Select one of my paired devices, such as the Nexus 7 by clicking the large "+" icon
4. Select Bluetooth Networking
5. Select the "Share Internet Connection" option
6. Click Continue on the bottom
I tried various registry edit searches here and on google, but cant' find any way to lessen these steps or preferably have the Bluetooth sharing set to ON at all times. If anyone knows how to simplify this process, please post the stops or file that will help us all.
Thanks in advance
