Disable pop-ups for data connection - Touch Cruise General

Got since a couple of weeks the Polaris, also my first Windows Mobile device. And it is great
But got a (simple?) question, when my phone has no signal, but do want to establish a data connection, I get a pop-up which says something like "Trying to set up data connection...". But of course this is impossible, so it disappears and a second later a new pop-up pops up... And this goes on, and on and on. I can't do anything with the phone because I always get that stupid pop up. Is there any solution for this? Disabling the whole pop up is no problem (got a unlimited data plan).
Thanks in advance,
Fabian

If you are familiar with hacking the registry:
; Disable pop-up notification bubble when starting a wireless data call
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{8ddf 46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}]
"Options"=dword:00000000

Hi JNGold
Fantastic, been looking for this.
Many thanks and keep up the good work.

Quick Question

I have an 8525 but my IT guy at the office has an 8125/wizard. Anyway, he does not have the data plan through cingy so he is wondering if he can use wifi instead. If so, how do I set that up for him? Thanks

Your IT guy doesn't know how to turn on wifi?!?!
That's pretty bad. Anyhow, you just open up the COMM manager and turn on wifi. When it finds an AP, or whatever, it'll bring it up and you tap on it and it take you through the brief and easy setup process. That should do it.
P.S. Time to get a new IT guy
Yeah, lol we got that far but like with my 8525 it lets me choose during the mail set up how I want to retrieve my mail i.e. work, internet, ISP, Media net etc... Just wondering if there is something like this for the wizard. Thanks by the way.
I dont think there is a way to set up your email that way. Only if he connects manually to wifi and then retrieve. The email will not connect automatically thru wifi unless you just stay connected i believe. And yeah i second that motion on getting a new IT guy.
Hi,
Well, its not just turning on WiFi, its disabling GPRS so he doesn't get hit with big data charges. You can try this tweak: http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/Disable_GPRS
Hopefully this will work for him.
BTW, things are pretty much the same on the Hermes as on the Wizard, it just depends on the rom you're running.
Good luck,

Making WIFI Acting More Like The iPhone

Hey Everyone,
After picking up the tilt a few days ago, I've really started to like it. I did the hard reset to get rid of all the ATT junk, got Garmin XT, put on a new theme, used HTC Home Customizer and JiveTalk.
There is one more thing that is aggravating me and I was wondering if you guys had any sort of remedy.
My roommate has the iPhone and when his WIFI is on it simply connects to our router when in range, and disconnects and switchs to Edge when not in range. If he wants to connect to another network at someone else's house he goes to settings - wifi - and then picks their network and enters the network key. If he is out and doesn't pick one, it says in Stand-By mode.
Is there a way to make the WM6 do this? I'm constantly having the wireless manager pop-up and inform me of new wireless networks and its getting sort of aggrivating.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
Assuming you're running WM6 and not WM6.1, all you have to do is, whenever a popup notification for New Network Found pops up, you tap the right softkey, and choose "Don't Display This Message Again." You may have to do that a couple times in case it doesn't stick.
By the way, only WM6.1 actually has that option on the surface. Silly Microsoft.

Stop WinMobile establishing data-connections without asking

Hey mates!
First of all I wanna wish you a hapy new year
Ok, now to my question.
I've got a HTC Touch HD a week ago.
I recognized that it establishes a data-connection without asking me.
When i'm using Wifi - no problem.
But as I don't have a data-flat that gets quite expensive, if I can't use Wifi (most of the time no wifi available).
Is it possible to set up Winmobile so that it asks me BEFORE establishing an data connection?
I didn't find any solutions, google didn't help me, too.
Of yourse I could just change the adresses in the settings.
e.g- "internet.t-mobile.de" to "internet.t-mobile.deXXX" ---> no connection possible.
But i want to receive and send MMS at any time, so that would not be possible any more.
I hope you can help me, thx.
greetz
try nodata
this should do what you need....i think
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
thx, but not really what i need.
With this programm i still have to close connections by hand.
I just want WinMobile to ask me BEFORE it establishes a connection.
For example: When I open an programm which tries to download something, a popup should appear
--->
Establish data-connection?
[ ]Yes
[ ] NO
I hope u understand my problem

No one with the same problem here and a solutuon?

I have the same problem with my Touch 3G (Jade). Turning the Data Connection off in the Main Touchflow settings tab helps but doesn't stop it completely. The worst thing is that doesn't seem to download anything but just connecting is enough to start costing.
I spoke to HTC today and they gave me a solution to this problem. Go to Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced and then Select Networks. There you should find a drop down tab with something like ******GPRS, where ****** is your network. Now now choose New and create a new connection name like "No GPRS" for example. Click OK.
You now have a title but no settings so when you select this one, the phone can't connect to the internet. It might attempt to connect but it won't go through. Don't worry about MMS as this uses a different set of settings and works perfectly (for me).
Hope this helps, Woolly.
Find what apps are creating the connection so you can prevent it. Spb Monitor should be able to show you that.
Using Modaco NoData (link given above) will just do the same saving your time (you don't have to create a fake connection set).
What schlitzohr1812 wants is a way to make WM ask for permission to connect. I haven't heard of anything like this, but if you assign a shortcut to NoData it's almost as easy as what you are looking for. By the way, despite the name, NoData will prevent WM from opening connections, not only to exchange data over them.
Just remember that if you disable the connection while it is already open, you still have to close it manually. Also beware that if in your Comm Manager you have an enabled "Data connection" button (on some phones it's always disabled when the connection is closed, on others it can be used to open it), that button WILL open a connection even if they are disabled.
Thx for helping guys, but "Black Antitoon" is right.
That's not exactly what I was searching for but better than nothing.
I'm used to my old nokia phone (N70) which asked me before.
Incomprehensible why Windows Mobile does not have such an option...
greetz Timo
anybody wrote an app for this data permission yet please?

GPRS under control. is it possible?

Hi,
when the wifi signal is lost or activesync is dsconnected, my HTC TouchPro automatically tries to switch to GPRS connection. like when i start browser or messenger application it turns GPRS by default.
My question is: have anybody seen the application or tweak that would show the dialogue window BEFORE the gprs connection established, something like
"application XXX tries to use GPRS connection. and two buttons: Allow|Deny"
that's actually all we need to control GPRS expences, especially when in roaming. (yes, i know about "no data in roaming" app). sometimes it goes like this: you're sure you're online using wifi, and browse or download a film or music. BUT, in the middle of the process the wifi connection is lost, but you didn't notice it, the device switched to GPRS automatically without notice and questions, so the rest of your download becomes golden for you.
if there were such an app with a simple two-buttons-dialogue, life would be easier for all of us... is there?
I have been dreaming for the same thing for like years
actually i had the same problem,
i was browsing comfortably using wifi, but unknown to me, when the signal got interrupted, it switched to GPRS...
actually we would know if we look at the icon, but it's absurd to look at the icon every once in a while...
so, my solution was... to call up the provider, and have them terminate the GPRS service.
it might not serve you any good, since you probably still need the option to be able to go online when there's no wifi, but it served my purpose really well.
So, as i can see, it's not just my whim - it's really necessary add-on. are here some advanced members, coders who are able to solve it? afaik, this feature is not available in winmobile itself, but somehow implemented by Nokia, for example.
Got IT!
guys,
i found the solution. it appears much easier than i expected: just check the
start/settings/sounds and notifications/notifications - connection established. [i have localized WM version, menu strings in english version may vary from my translation. so, just find something close by meaning]
that's it!
good luck.
Yes, I always set it like that so I know it connects with GPRS/3G but I won't still ask me if I want to connect or not, the notification is only good way to try to disconnect it quickly... if I am the one using the phone but if someone else is using it, it's just worthless.

same error message keeps popping up

Ever since I got my ATT Fuze, I've been getting a pop-up warning box:
Warning
There is a problem
connecting to the GPRS
service in your registered
home network
I started out on the stock ATT ROM, and in the hopes that it would fix the problem I flashed a 6.5 ROM by TAEL which works perfectly but still has the same problem (though the pop-up is much nicer looking now on 6.5!)
Is this a setting? I've searched the forums and "advanced config" for a setting and can't find anything. thanks in advance!
anyone?
The ROM i'm using now is TAEL v.4 from april 10th. Has anyone ever seen this message, or does anyone know if there are settings for GPRS?
last try
anyone ever see this message? Have I discovered the one error that opens up a world of possibilities with this phone? does this unlock the grappling hook? maybe if i ask how to install cab files i'll get a response...
since that didn't get any responses...
Ok, how about this: can I dispose of the battery in a fire?
well, that was useless.
screw this, I'm buying an iphone.
Are you sure, you are using some data plan by your provider? If not,use "nodata" software do disable GPRS connection. You are using some software in background, that tries to connect to the internet(RSS reader, scheduled Weather,Email etc.). Are your GPRS settings correctly set?
wow, I had already given up on this...
Thanks for the reply! I'm not using any data plan (just wifi). I've turned off weather and the only software I've added to the TAEL ROM is Garmin XT. I searched but I couldn't find the "no data" software; and I can't find the GPRS settings in the phone (if there are any)... thanks again!
If you are not using any dataplan, just forget about settings. It seems, that you have some app running on background, that forces the device to connect to the internet(some schedule). Ensure, you haven't scheduled email receiving,RSS,weather etc.automaticaly.
