HTC Music app in HTC Hero - G1 Android Development

Hello all,
I developed an app called Instant Lyrics. May be, some of you are familiar. It is in the Market. Mainly, it captures the song information from the default Music Player and brings the lyric instantly.
Everything works very well. But, I am getting complaints from HTC Hero users. Because, HTC Hero does not use the default music player. And to be able to get the java name of HTC Music and the service it is using, I need to install HTC Hero ROM. However; my time is limited.
I would appreciate, If one person has HTC Hero could help me to get the needed information.
the only information I need is the java names of the app and the service it is using.
For example, the default music app is like
com.android.music
com.android.music.MediaPlaybackService
You can get this information by using Package Manager in Dev Tools app. The Services are listed at the end of the result page.
Thank you very much,
Omer

Uh....i think the java name is com.htc.music or com.android.htc.music (don't. Have dev tools on hero...)
If I could get a "fixed" version of your app...i could test and see if it works.

Sure, I can send the fixed version. Thank you.
The attached is the development.apk provided by Google. If you could install and follow the following steps, we would have much accurate information.
1. Download and install the attached app. It is an app provided by
Google to the developers. It has no side effect to your phone.
2. Open the app.
3. Click Package Browser in the list
4. Find the music player from the list. Its name should be like "HTC
Music" or "com something htc something music" but not "Music" or
"com.android.music" (this is the default music app) and Click.
5. note what is written in the Process headline
6. go to the end of the page and note the name listed in the Services head line
7. and send me the names you noted.
Pleas note that the names are case sensitive. So, it is very important
to write exactly the same name with the correct case character.

I was right.... it was "com.htc.music" I just hope the ui goes along with the app too.

Thank for the tip Otto. I assumed that the Service is the same as "MediaPlaybackService" and compiled the code. The attached is the app.
Please tell me how it works after you test it. Thanks a lot.

HTC Album sort order

Does anyone know how to get HTC Album to sort by filename instead of date added? I've found it rather useful as a Manga reader however, without it being sorted by filename order it's a pain.
I've searched through the registry and there's nothing obvious to tweak.
Any help will be much appreciated!
I would also like to know for same reason..at present I am using Kinoma Play App from market place to view comic pages, however although it arranges images by name, you need to re-apply everytime you launch the program
Give that a try until someone creates a fix.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Sounds to me the sort by function is defaulted in the embedded scripts. My try decompiling and testing it.
For the manga fans out there, you can actually use Resco Photo Viewer 7 beta which si a pretty good photo viewer and allows you to sort by filename which is what I needed.
Sorry if this is old news!

is this youtube cab better then built in versin
The new version of the YouTube app is better in lots of ways. It adds the ability to actually use your account, so you've got your videos, subscriptions, faves etc., which was always an annoyance of the original version.
Unfortunately, they've made it look really crap. I really liked the way the original version looked, but the new one looks like a WM5 app. It's terrible!
Why they felt the need to redesign a decent designed app is beyond me. It just needed extra guts thrown in.
It's still worth it for the extra functionality.
Anyway, in answer to the OP (despite the fact that he's had links to cab files posted already), it says your device is unsupported if you visit the app page in Opera. If you use IE then it works.
Mainly because the built in app is made by HTC, while this newer version is made by Google. The HTC made version requests a higher quality versions of the videos from Youtube, thus the obvious visual differences.
Anyway it should replace the original HTC Youtube app in the start menu, but the old one is still there in the Windows directory, you just need to create a shortcut for it.

Thank God that it is, because after installing the new version, I'll stick with the old one.
Besides the lower resolution video already mentioned, the ugly UI, it also rotates the video in the wrong direction.
Sad that it can't have all the greatness of the HTC version plus the account features. That would be great!
cheers guys and yeh i was viewing it on my device lol but in opera
please, a little help...I have unistalled the google youtube but I cannot find the executable in windows folder to make a shortcut in order to have the preinstalled version of youtube on my HD2!

u just have to set the app to rotated, make sure that u are in landscape mode before clicking on a video, and it will be rotated in the right way.

Use Internet Explorer and it will download.
This app has a great interface, but video quality is shocking...I would advise against installing it.
I've found all sorts of things that annoy me with the shipped HTC youtube app that i wish could be fixed,
1, the quality isn't the quality you get from your desktop, the vids look much lower res on the phone.
2, If you pause and let the video buffer and it gets to the end then you've missed your chance to view the video and have to start over, why it can't just buffer then let you click back to the start is beyond me, this little fact had me pulling my hair out, either watch it play, buffer, play, buffer all the way through or waste your bandwidth limit redownloading the vid you just downloaded...priceless.

[App - Beta]

Hi, I need a cpl of beta testers for my app. Specifically I need people with HTC phones with the stock HTC music player installed.
My app allows you to skip songs with volume button gestures.
I was unable to find a app in the market that allowed you to do this in the background and worked with more then one player app so I hacked one together.
To be considered you must:
Have the HTC player installed
Be willing to provider me your e-mail address
Be willing to put up with bugs and my hasty coding
Put up with the Google licensing server *
* The licensing server will just check your email against an authorized user list.
If you are interested please send me a PM with your email.
Thanks!
That's actually a good idea. I'm surprised people haven't thought of this before.

Cool, would this work with the screen locked aswell?

I'll be glad to test if you ever get this working on Galaxy S.

[Q] Youtube app redirection for HTC YouTube App

Does anyone know how to redirect YouTube links to the HTC YouTube App versus the Microsoft YouTube app? Figure its sone file association in the reg but not sure where to look.
Sent from my Samsung Focus using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
It's pretty easy to change the redirect itself. The relevant key is HKCR\vnd.youtube, which defines a URI handler (the way the redirect works is that when YouTube's servers see the WP7 browser user-agent, they send links like "vnd.youtube:<video ID>" which WP7 then opens in the YouTube app). Changing two registry values under that key, replacing the App ID of the YouTube app with the ID of the HTC app, would make those links open in the HTC app.
The problem is that the HTC app doesn't expect to be opened this way, so it won't check for command line parameters. Instead, it'll just open as though you'd selected it from the app list. This probably isn't the behavior you're hoping for.
Sure isn't... makes me wonder why Microsoft force/locked the app to their default browser and then handicapped it to a poor and useless existance.... I assume we are stuck with this situation with all the YouTube apps including SuperTube?

Thanks for this explanation... so at the moment is quite impossible for us to make this association between the browser youtube links and htc youtube app... WP7 makes me angry sometimes, it's so nice in some aspects but makes you feel powerless when you try to do even basic stuff with it.

Thank you. Do share the word & your feedback too
Here is the feedback... I'm using it for the day, you posted the app....
1. Auto rotate refreshes the app. May be u should add property in manifest.XML file.
2. Looks like top 5 list, only displays top 4 songs.
Suggestions:
1. In settings add option to select target directory location. To get sdcard parmission, u have add a prop in manifest.xml and add 4-5 lines code to ask sdcard permission.
2. If possible, ability to select bit rate to download. Now it downloads at highest bit rate.
3. Auto download lyrics, album art and other info.
Although suggestions are not necessary to implement, it would be nice, if u can put them, if u have some time...

Great I see you are a developer too. Well I try to do apps in free time so will have most of these in near updates. Lets see how people react to the app
Yeah, even I created few apps... Only one app (search in playstore as "srihari gonela") I have posted in play store. But I'm not developing apps now, as I m on busy schedule. If u face any issue and if I can solve it, I will surely do it.
I wish, this app can help, lots of music lovers...

Awsome apk!
So far so great!
If you want my advice:
The search bar takes what you type in too precisely
For example: "im" ~ "i'm"
As well as having the search adjustable from looking up one song to looking up all known songs by an artist
Also the ability to control where the downloaded files go would be awsome
Brilliant but needs to list bitrate info as well
What are the music sources ?
I am an audiophile and I need to know more about the quality of what I am downloading
App no longer works
All searches are brought to:
"No files found..."
I have tried every single artist and song name i know
I even triple checked online.
App was great while it lasted
Nothing fixed, nothing upgraded.
Moving on to better and greater things
The app crashes most of the time and downloads rarely works
Nothing about the app has been improved
Since I had talked to the developer of this app on FB
wow, that is really usefull
Thank you
perfect. downloaded and am enjoying your efforts
Working good for downloads over here on June 25th 2018 guys. Samsung rooted Verizon note 8. Thanks dev.
Thank you guys. Sometimes if you don't get results please be patient I will fix it on the go & you'll get the downloads without any update.
New feature probability..
Can this app be integrated to Google Now Sound Search?
Like, when Google Now detects the song, this app can retrieve the song and download it.
Just an idea.
I quess this App has stop upgrading ?
It still finds and download music , but i cant find it in my phone , only in the App. Is that the way it supposed to work ?
I usually download ringtones at: https://kostenloseklingeltone.mobi/
