I have an Orbit and an Orbit 2. I figured it would let me sync one device's contacts, tasks, emails etc.. over bluetooth but how? Failing that, how the hell do I get contacts from one phone to the other?! It shouldn't be this hard (or me this stupid!)

Not an ideal solution for most people though? As it happens I do have access to a decent Outlook setup at work. I've also tried the one at home using the demo that came with the unit. The problem is that I don't want to maintain the sync (especially at work), but Windows Mobile bizarrely insists on deleting all the contacts from the phone again when I delete the sync relationship.

Yeah, that kinda works with tasks because I can select them all at once. However 100+ contacts done one-at-a-time isn't my idea of fun. I can't believe this is so impossible to do device-to-device. Failing that just a way of getting them onto my PC and then sending them back to my new device without having to set up an ongoing sync relationship. I only want to do this one time, to get all the contacts from one device to the other!
I'm not sure what the problem is here.
It seems to me that you would use ActiveSync to set up a relationship with the computer and Phone A (the one with the data already), initially copying all the information from the device to the computer. You would then have the info all in Outlook on the computer.
Then set up a relationship with Phone B and copy the info from the computer to the device. Then delete ActiveSync from the computer and beam further changes individually as required.
Which part of this doesn't work?

You can download a 15 day trial of their software. Their software has a phonebook option which allows you to send the entire contacts list via bluetooth to linked devices.

Deleting the sync relationship seems to insist on the data that the relationship created being purged. So I had a situation where the data was on my new phone but once the sync relationship was removed, WM insisted on removing all the contacts that had been created using that sync too - which is absolutely braindead. At the minute I'm in a scenario where I've lost all the contacts from *both* phones, *and* Outlook and I'm very upset! Currently trying to recover from deleted items in Exchange...

OK, I recovered my contacts from the Exchange server after an hour of being rather annoyed... And thanks to a plug in which allows multiple contacts to be selected and beamed to another device (http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-ppccontactsmgr-v1-6.html), I managed to get them sent to the new device. I just can't believe a modern WM device isn't capable of sending all contacts from one device to another out-of-the-box. Surely it shouldn't require an PC with an installation of Outlook to achieve what ought to be a reasonably trivial task when moving to a new device?
I hate to say it but you did buy a wm device! I have just reinstalled XP as Vista was ****! XP will soon be redundant and as far as I am concerned so will windows. We all bought into that company.....I agree entirely without outlook we are stuck. It is the one peice of software I buy happily, the rest are being ditched as they run to the end of there technological hold.

I wrote a post few days ago about my impressions with HTC Cruise and Windows. Overall I have no complains, but your "adventure" is the essence of that post. Good hardware, OS with potential, put them together and overall good, but not super.
These are simple things Microsoft should have gotten right from the beginning. Rather than building a system with a "start menu", trying to immitate Desktop Windows, Microsoft should have been brave enough to build an appropriate PDA + Phone OS...
I am not a big fun of overloading the mobile with eye-candy applications, but for example SPB did a nice job with their mobile shell series, big accessible icons, easy access to common functions, configurable and so on. Why Microsoft fails to get it straight is quite disappointing.
Anyway, I am glad you sorted this out, I am downloading that plugin as well, I am sure it will be handy at some point! (Thanks for finding this!)

Cert was invaild in PIE as well. clicking on the install link returns a 404 error

Not everyone has Exchange unfortunately....
Why? There are free servers available.
Because you can only have 1 activesync connection at the same time.
I already sync my mail & calendar with my work exchange server and would like to sync my contacts & calendar with myphone or another comparable service.
I prefer exchange activesync in combination with livemesh - the only thing I don't get back-ups of are my sms messages (shrug).
Livemesh is just so more useful to me.
i just want to grumble a little about Microsoft's rather piecemeal way of sorting out OTA sync data. I use Windows Live Mobile, but this does not allow calendar sync, so I am forced to use Google Sync and Google calendar. I use Live Mesh to sync all my other files. Now MyPhone comes along, and I am finding it very hard to imagine why I would ever want to use this program at all. The only thing it may be useful for is putting the cabs for WLM, Google Sync and Live Mesh on it so that new phones which come with MyPhone preinstalled will be able to download and run the programs.
Why can't Windows Live Mobile come preinstalled with all phones and be a more full-featured service?

I must correct myself here, myphone is useless if you already have an activesync connection in place.
If you do, myphone cannot sync your calendar, tasks and contacts (even if your not syncing them via activesync at all).
It is not really direct-push like sync as well. The smallest possible automatic sync interval is once per day.
I cannot really find any use to sync my phones images, music etc with myphone. It's waaay faster to just put them on the sd-card directly via a card reader...

Yeah, but Live Mesh could do this anyway, as long as you install after a hard reset/new phone.

Indeed, moreover, you can select individual folders with live mesh to sync, mymobile only allows to select the the whole storage card! which puts you straight over the 200mb limit.
Microsoft needs to get a grip, there is a whole range of products that overlap in functionality but don't work together....

Well, with all our grumbling, it looks like Microsoft is listening and is hoping to more tightly integrate My Phone with Windows Live. I just wonder how long it will take and whether it will be ready by the time 7 rolls round.

We too are big fans and ardent users of these services and it is natural for you all to ask for tighter integration so that all of your personal data is consolidated in one single view. Support synchronizing additional data: Your phone is a very personal device for lot of us. We have tried to support syncing the most frequently used data types keeping in mind the current and future trends but at the same time we have room for growth in this area for syncing additional information. Hi everybody.
I juste want to say that I'm not able to find a mail client for my HTC.
There is almoust no competitors on this market :
Built-in app : no backup. each hard reset = reconfigure every account
FlexMail : too slow
Profimail : not that easy to configure
QMail : Old
and that's alll.
Does someone here can tell me if there is somewhere a valuable mail client for windows mobile ?

Hmmm .... how did you manage to miss www.mail2web.com? With these you can use the built-in Outlook and it works a treat.
They are not free but they are cheap and its a full Exchange client (if you wish it to be). I use them through my own domain and think they are excellent. My sent mails even get sent out as *@stuza.com.
And as I access them through my own domain (*.stuza.com) i can even get to its web front end through many restricted corporate firewalls!

I'm afraid not to have completly undersood you ...
I know Mail2web, I used to use it as a web client when I couldn't use Pocket Outlook in my phone (because no pop or imap data plan).
Now, I can use my multiple imap account in whatever mail client (built in pocket outlook, flexmail, etc.).
But I often Hard reset or flash my rom, and the Poicket outlook doesn't allow a simple settings export : each time, I have to configure my 5 accounts and its tedious.
The other ones allow a setting export, but they are tedious to USE.
so, I wonder why there is not other mail client : I think the market is here ; isn't it?

Pocket Outlook is built into ALL WinMob devices afaik.

If you need to re-enter all your details every time you reboot then it sounds like you have a more serious issue that someone else might be able to help you with?

- I know, and use, Pocket Outlook. and for the momentt, I think it's the most intuitive mail client.
BUT : when I do a Hard Reset, my 5 accounts are no more here, an that's normal : I have done a Hard Reset.
In FlexMail, for exemple, I can easilly recall my settings because there is a backup solution. I just have to reinstall FlexMail, end recover all my 5 accounts without a tedious stylus manual configuration for each.
In the buit-in Pocket Outlook, Ihave to re-configure each account manually. That's why I'd prefer to use a third party app, or find a way to backup my mail account.
I dont see the interest of use mail2web as I can access my mails without ... Bt perhaps I miss someting ?

Thats the real problem here. If this didn't happen I suspect you would be happy with Outlook. It might be better to start a new thread or change the tittle of this one to "Reboot wipes mail settings" and hopefully someone can help you fix this?

i was just thinking about this same thing the other day.... there are replacements for just about every aspect of the phone... explorer, browser, multimedia, contact management, but mail is the least touched... i was thinking i would prefer a more finger friendly version would be nice... something along the lines of icontact for email

Can somebody just send an email to MS to request them to add the 'export settings' feature on poutlook. I think it's the best solution say that in the future release of WM65 this become a 'build-in' function. And, seems much easier for them to do it, I just remember eversince the earliest 'outlook express', MS has this feature built-in their desktop mail client.
I'm just afraid of my English not good enough to express this in a convincible way to those guys in MS.
Update: I just have sent the link of this page to MS Outlook Mobile Team, Hope they can pay some attention to this 'customer feedback'.

I found on the iPhone many applications releated to IT support, like managing active directory (AD) " reset password , create user account, add users to group, unlock account, delete account.etc".but there is nothing similar in windows mobile , sometime I need these programs to manage my servers from my mobile when I'm outside of my office.

Apparently this is possible with Android, by droidwalling everything PIM related, and using myphoneexplorer as a bridge between the phone and outlook, but noone seems to have found a solution to the same problem on Windows Phone 7, and almost noone seems to care.
To put it simply, I don't usually read my mail from my phone, being a PC person for that, but I heavily use it for work with calendar and contacts, and I don't want any of that data to ever be on any cloud whatsoever, not unless encrypted, and only I know the encryption key, so well, let's just say that I don't want it to sync to cloud at all, period.
Not anywhere on the internet that googlebot has put its eyes on, anyone seems to have a working solution to achieve 2-way syncing between a WP7 device and a PC, and since I was really planning to move to mango from WM as soon as a RTM custom rom is available for my HD2, but discovered this piece of info just now, I feel concerned and surprised since it appears I will have to stick to WM6.5.
Isn't there, to the best of your lurking xda members' knowledge, any way so I can sync data with my pc without the phone sending it over the internet to who knows where?
I would also be content if that was something like PIM backup did, with a scheduled utility that backs up every PIM data onto a compressed file, that is subsequently synced to the pc with a normal file sync, as long as I'm sure that all the data on my phone is updated directly onto my PC, and henceforth no internet foreplay is involved. I would need the PC mostly as a remote backup, because the data I use on the phone, I only ever use on the phone.
I do hope normal 2-way file sync is still possible with WP7 by the way?
The fact that noone has replied yet surely tells me that noone cares Which in turn means that there are probably no methods to get proper offline sync.
No its not possible, sadly. I had to move to O365 because of this. O365 is nice though.
not a viable alternative for me, alas... will have to think it through and see if it's not better to keep wm 6.5, or switch to *cough*android*cough* instead.
