Stuck with 1.33.009 after an attempted unroot of T-Mobile MyTouch - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

I have a T-Mobile MyTouch I purchased on Friday, which had an SPL of 1.33.006 (SAP30000). I followed the instructions in the following thread to unroot my phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133
I would have posted in the original thread, but the couple of times I've seen my issue come up, there are no answers given (or, sometimes it's "did you follow the instructions exactly?") so I didn't want to get it lost if others have the same problem. I've tried the instructions step by step (took me a while to get the GoldCard done because of a couple of inaccuracies in the instructions), but now it seems that I'm stuck with a 1.33.0009 (SAPP30000) SPL and need to install 32A ROM's - I can't seem to get it to 1.33.0005 no mater how many times I follow the instructions. And it also seems that I can't revert to a 32B situation, nor can I unroot the phone based on the last series of instructions in the Original Thread.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it? Or is it unfixable? I'd like to be able to install 32B Hero ROM as only a couple of the 32A ones will install on my phone, and it's hard to tell what might be causing the slowdown (the lack of memory, or just the ROM itself). I now have Amon_RA's RAv1.2.1H ROM installed, and it works great, but it's the Hero ones I'd like to get.
Note that my main reason for unrooting was to tether the phone, but for now that goal has been set aside until I can determine how to proceed from here (although I might just give Azilink a try anyway while waiting for this to be resolved).
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if we had the same problem. I followed the instruction in installing the spl it says turn off after installing the spl.
- Once the recovery is booted wait a while
- Apply the update.zip (you are now flashing the 1.33.2005 SPL)
- Once the SPL is flashed you have to power off your device and boot it again in fastboot mode. <--I did not follow this line
after the flashing I pressed restart and let it do it's thing until a couple of restart/flashing and stucked with the vodafone bootscreen thats the time I removed my battery (just be sure it's done flashing) then go to fastboot you should see .0005 let me know if it works I'm pretty sure that's what happened to me
P.S. I believe you want to root you phone to tether right? not unroot?

Hey jrherras,
Thanks for that tip. I'll give it a try tonight (while possibly getting other suggestions along the way). I think I MAY have tried that, but I don't remember at which stage this happened. One time it said on the screen to reboot using the "Home+Power" reset (hard reset, I think), and re-flash the update. So I tried and got the same results.
So, just to be clear, what you're saying is at the third step above, instead of powering off the phone (by removing the battery), just choose the "reset device" option at the top of the recovery menu? Or are you suggesting to do the "Home+Power" reset? And it seems that you may have also re-flashed the SPL update a couple more times as well?

Yes I flashed couple of times and thought I'm stucked at .0009 SPL until I decided to restart not turn off.
I pressed the 1st selection from the recovery which is "Restart device" and let it flash it self. If I'm not mistaken once you pressed restart you will see a flashing in progress and after a couple of restart when your stucked in the vodafone logo and no more flashing in progress that's the time you remove the battery to turn off After that you should have .0005 SPL pm me if it worked since I don't browse too much

Hey jrherras,
Thanks again for that info. I'll give it a try later on and update both this thread and you once I see if it does or doesn't work.
~CM

Seems that the extra reboot did the trick. I had misread the "Home+Back" to reboot as "Home+Power", and that's where my confusion set in (although the instructions in the original thread were not clear on this step). Right now, I'm flashing a 32B ROM and seeing how it goes.
Thank you very much for your help.

Help with a "Bricked" Tilt!

Any Help Appreciated. Anyone ever seen this type of "Brick"?
After flashing a new ROM (Tilt XDA-Live v1.0 - fully flashed to 100% and said finished), the device won't boot. It just gets stuck in an endless loop. It trys to boot, shows the AT&T screen, then reboots/resets back to the beginning before getting to the Windows mobile screen.
The only way to get it to stop the loop is to pull out the battery. Put the battery back in and power on and you get the loop again.
I have loaded HARD SPL (1.0.OliPof).
I can get into Bootloader mode by pressing power/camera then reset.
In this mode, I can get it to reflash the ROM (and even other ROMS) but it still ends up in the same loop.
I have tried flashing the Official ATT WWE ROM from this thread but it still loops at boot.
I did the "original/problematic" flash using Vista. Could that be the issue? I have done subsequent "recovery" flashing using XP to no avail.
I have flashed several ROMs to my Tilt in the past (Mostly Dutty ROMs).
I had a Hermes before and flashed that a million times no issue so I'm not a complete noob.
Any ideas? I'm stuck with a brick!
Thanks in advance.
I'm in the same boat. I've flashed over and over (with different ROMs) and am still stuck. But I did every flash from MicroSD card. Did you get any help?
No input yet.
What ROM did you flash that started the problem for you?
dutty's touchflo rom beta for the tilt. i was on dutty's hybrid rom version 3. after flashing the OEM at&t ROM, i'm out of ideas. stay in touch if you find a fix. i'll keep searching.

Bump...
Anyone else seen the issue with a Tilt stuck in a "boot loop" after flashing (see first post)?
Paypal reward for anyone who helps me recover - otherwise I'm going to have to go buy another Tilt (which I could live with but worse yet, I may be stuck with the stock ROM because I'm too gunshy to go back to my flashing ways)
Tried all day to find a fix. Think I made things worse. Read up on some threads using the mtty tool and ran a command (task 2a) that cleared the flash. But now it doesn't even boot to a splash screen, and I can't get back to bootloader mode.
This might sound a bit stupid, but I have taken note that my device upon flashing the new at&t rom actually held some of the information, you would think that a hard reset is performed after a rom flash, but that just wasn't how it worked out for me, anyway I had a radio that wouldn't come up, but would after a hard reset, this was directly after flashing my tilt...
?Glitch
Glitch,
Yeah, I have heard in several places that you need to hard reset after a flash to clear out all the settings from the old ROM. Seems odd since you just overwrote ROM - I think of it as a format (HDD mindset) but I guess it's not a clean format.
Jerich007,
Sorry to hear you went backwards. I stopped flashing my Tilt for the same reason - worried about getting farther in the hole without some expert advice. My next step was to try the MTTY tool just as you noted. Guess I'll go that route as a last resort. If it's any consolation, I seem to remember reading about plenty of people recovering from a "brick" that won’t go into bootloader mode.
Hopefully someone trolling the waters will see this thread and take up the offer for a Cash Reward (Paypal) for help recovering this Brick!
ill put up some paypal $$ for a fix as well. i'm at the end of my rope on this one. i'm subscribed to some other threads so hopefully we'll get some feedback.
It is not so serious as you think! Try the following way:
1- Download the original rom from AT&T (the 1st rom was installed on your device)
2- Turn your bricked Tilt to bootloader ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Resets )
3- Start flashing your Tilt with the above AT&T rom.
Evething should be OK after that! (but your device need to be installed Hard-SSPL before!!!)

and DEFINETLY download the ROM, flash it. Once it's flashed, then ya can reflash any ROM ya want. Get the newest stock ROM from the sticky and reflash it (if ya want the ATT ROM)
That will fix it.
(I reflashed Tilt XDA-Live v 1.0, and it's working GREAT.)
I did the same thing to my Tilt.
That ROM saved me.

Problem is I can't get to a bootloader screen now. I press Camera+Power+reset, but all that happens is the green LED goes off then on, and then the screen is blank. Anyone know any other tricks? I think I may have erased my bootloader using mtty command 'task 2a'.
...
Hate to say it, but if after hours of searching on the forum you can't find an answer, i'd pm a pro like pof. I don't know if that will work, but their advice is the only thing i'd listen to.
Don't forget to give a lot of detail and maybe mention what you've tried.
Thanks. I've already PM'd pof and olipro. Hopefully they can come up with something.

****, I should have replied after someone posted all those links to Hermes unbrick procedures, to never do a task 2a from hardSPL. It reformats entire flash including SPL and the problem with hardSPL is that you can't flash another SPL, even if you would have tried before rebooting
Anyhow, your only chances to unbrick your device are to try to enter radio bootloader (there is a radio bootloader running on the mARM (ARM9)) and then to flash it. However, only service centres have such flashx utilities I'm afraid. Furthermore I'm not sure if radio bootloader can be entered directly, usually you can enter it via the normal CE SPL. You can try to first connect USB and then press reset with the stylus while holding the Voicecmd key. If you are in XP, then three new devices should be found (composite USB, a modem and a diagnostics port). Download the Motorola "Q" usb drivers, these will work just fine. In this mode you will have to authenticate to the radio bootloader before you can start entering commands. We'll get to that if you manage to connect. Your other chance to unbrick is via JTAG. I know the kaiser has JTAG points scattered on PCB.
Ok, thanks, I'll search for those drivers and let you know. By Voicecmd key do you mean the push-to-talk key along the side or the talk key with the green phoneset icon?
The top button at the left hand side
Ok here's what happens:
1. downloaded Motorola USB drivers (32-bit) from their site, installed and rebooted.
2. plugged in Tilt via usb cable, 'found new Hardware wizard' starts.
3. clicked next to auto-search for drivers, but the wizard fails with 'cannot install this hardware' message. I have 3 yellow question marks in Device Manager for 'Data Interface' devices.
4. held down Push-to-talk button and hit soft reset. No change, no leds are lit, screen is off.
Did I grab the right drivers?
Not bad at all. Apparently your phone is in Qualcomm DIAG mode, probably as a consequence of task 2a Now you can forget about rebooting with Voicecmd pressed.
Either you've got the wrong drivers or you don't install them in the correct way. Go in device manager, right click one of the 3 and update driver, then 'install from a list or specific location (Advanced)', then check 'Include this location in search' and enter the driver path. I'll take a quick look if I can find the drivers for you, I vaguely remember they were on mobile-files dot com.
EDIT: found the drivers, attached. The VID and PID of the found usb devices should be VID_05C6&PID_6000. Take a look in the device's advanced tab in device manager.
PS: Although diagnostics mode sounds great, I haven't yet found a way to flash the device. Perhaps it works with that Hermes radio flasher MaUpgrade_NoID.exe
Guys with a working SPL can enter radio bootloader DIAG mode via "rtask b", exit MTTY and install drivers. It would be great to know if someone has a htc/qualcomm radio flash utility (perhaps MaUpgrade_NoID.exe is what you need)

Lost Connection On 100% Flash, Not Auto Rebooted, HELP!

Just for completeness I will go through my full process:
1. Installed HardSPL
2. Installed Dutty's WM6.1 Official UC 5.2.19199 RTM
3. Discovered that there wa no sound so set about finding a solution
4. Downloaded NIKI_Radinly_1.58.16.27_CustomRUU
5. Installed HardSPL again as would not connect
6. Installed NIKI_Radinly_1.58.16.27_CustomRUU
Problem is that it reached 100% on the install then said it had lost the connection (made USB disconnect noise and everything). The NIKI radio installer only had an exit option and cannot reconnect. The phone is on 100% and won't go any further.
I am very worried about what to do next as clearly I could be in a bad flash situation. Any advice on what to do and what I may have done wrong would be very appreciated ASAP.
Oh I have backed up my phone first so hopefully no data will be lost (just potentially the phone itself )
if you already hard spl correctly then you dont have to do it again.....now you need to put your phone in tricolor mode (press power button and camera button at the same time and while holding then down soft reset with your styles...then you would be in tri color mode) then connect to PC and reflash rom and radio!
PS. please read the wikis on duttys (after flashing tutorial) as you would need to hard reset after! flashing rom for the first time!

you can try Sd Card flashing method...that would be easier
Thanks, I had to take the battery out to get it to restart. Luckily it seems to have got the Radio ROM in there as it rebooted working fully. Didn't know you could go back to the tricolour mode so easily after installing hard spl. Will see if it runs OK for a day or two b4 I get the bottle up to try again
I did have a good read before both installs. As a newbie though the sheer number of combinations and options make it quite hard to follow what you should be doing in each situation. I think that is why so many people are asking the same questions on lack of sound, etc.

Stuck at HardSpl 3.29 Tri-Color Screen

Okay I got up this morning and my phone was working fine. But then I restarted it and it just booted to the tri-color screen. So i took out the battery and I did a reset and it just keeps comming back.
So I thought that the rom might have went bad, dont know how but I though I would just refalsh it to see if it works. I flashed correctly and said it was complete but just reboot back to the tri-color screen. So the flash will complete fine but cannot get out of boot loader. I tryed flashing original and cooked rom, same result.
So I thought I would try and flash back to an older hard spl, I have hardspl 3.29 right now so I thought I would try hardspl 3.28 just to see if issue would be fixed. So I flash it and it completes, then reboots to tri-color again, but instead of saying 3.28 like it should it still says 3.29. Wierd??
So I through I would give mtty a try and see if I could get past the boot loader. I tryed the boot command which gave me a command error so I did some searching and tryed:
"set 16 0"
"task 8" <- causes phone to restart and goes back to tri-color.
Right now I am stuck at this tri-color screen and I think I am never going to get out. This came up randomly my phone has been working fine for a while now until today.
Can someone please help me on how to make it work????
Thank you to anyone who provides help.
Hi sngskunk, I have a similar problem. After a radio flashing, my phone stopped in tri-color screen, returned to normal after 24h, then returned to hang on tri-color screen. By coincidence it happened after using the camera. I suspect that might be a hardware problem, maybe a short circuit in the camera button, but I will make sure after opening the unit and clean the contacts of the button.
I am going to try and take the phone apart and look at the camera button to see if that is the problem, but is there a command in mtty that will boot the os, after the bootloader.
Because i have tryed the boot command and that doesn't work in Hardspl 3.29, I get a cammand error. I have tryed resetting it but if the camera button is stuck then it is going to go back to the original tri-color screen.
Okay so I toke my phone apart to check the camera button, the button looks fine didnt look dirty or full of dust and I check the micro switch and it seemed okay. While the phone was a part I turned it on to check to see if it would boot to the os, but it didnt it stopped at the spl, and I know that the camera button wasnt pushed.
Going to try and install a new radio just to see if that fixes it, if not, I am all out of ideas.

Try flashing a shipped ROM via MicroSD
I tryed installing a radio by itself, didnt fix it.
Installed original shipped rom from microsd, flash when perfect, said it was complete, reset it phone and it came back to the tri-color screen.
There is no "RUU**" i dont know what else is in that string but some people get in at the top of the screen when they are having my problem, but mine does not have it.
I would try going though the FrankenKaiser steps and see if that works? Just an idea
I looked up the post you are talking about and I am confused on it, because if I have the phone connected with the usb cable and use mtty. There is no command named dload.
Code:
cmd>dload
Command error !!!
Ofcouse now that I look at that post again that was in the spl, I cannot get to the radio boot loader the way he says, holding down the green phone and turning on the phone doesnt work just boots into the spl again.
Okay well i found a good post on how to do it but I get errors on the commands becuase in the post he isnt using hardspl 3.29 the cammand is the following:
rtask a <--- gets command error

I try these steps on saturday, but hardspl 3.* don't suport rtask command . If nothing more resolve, I am putting my chips on this tool (read post 6) ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415839
I've run into the exact same problem.
I just turned off my phone, turned it back on and now it's just stuck.. can't load anything.
2nd time i've had a problem with this phone
Ok so i've also noticed something else with this problem.
Basically, what had happened, I did the same thing as the first post. All I did was reset my phone. I turned it back on, and i'm stuck at bootloader screen
When it is loading, it flashes the screen to a complete white screen that says "Loading. No Image File!"
Then it goes right back to the bootloader screen and that's that.
It seems as though hard resetting, mtty or flashing back to original rom does not work.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on?

No. Nothing was disabled. Activesync was not present at all either and nothing was in the task manager.
Few things i've noticed:
a) when flashing to a new rom (or attempting too) there is no image listed in the previous ROM
b) my phone would be off, I'll plug it in to the USB and all of a sudden my phone will turn on right to bootloader.
Don't know if that makes a difference, but it's just some observations for you guys.

I had a problem when I first did mine. at the tri-color screen my phone never said USB on it and my computer showed an unknown usb device. Here's what worked for me but remember you only need to do this the first time, Once you have HardSPL flashed your phone will work like normal.
after your phone gives you a warning that a program is going to reboot it. You get a tri-color screen. As soon as you see this screen hold the camera and power button and press the reset button, don't disconnect the usb cable.
In other words the program that causes your phone to reboot doesn't allow the usb to work properly but a manual reboot into the SPL using the camera/power button does. I have not tried the "Forced USB" version of HardSPL because this problem goes away once you get HardSPL installed.
This would be better posted in the HardSPL thread.
Flash an official stock ROM, then follow ALL the instructions in the link deepthroat gave you to the T.

Technical Think Tank for Bricked G1's

I started this thread as a constructive and positive place for those of us that have recently lost our G1's or ADP's. I am going to document all my settings, Radio version, Firmware, Build info, etc here and hopefully reverse engineer this issue until I have an answer. If anyone has any hardware engineering information on this device it would be greatly appreciated. I'm even willing to host a private forum from my site to work on this.
Thanks everyone for your continued hard work and Haykuro, you're still the man!

You convert a SD card into a Goldcard and the phone will read it and allow the phone to flash ANY NBH file, regardless of CID, etc etc.

-JFv1.43 RC9 firmware (just did this one update, not the radio update)
-1 GB micro SD which was deliverd with the phone
-Google's Developers Edition
-rooted
-sim ulocked
-almost fully loaded about 80 % battery
-everything went fine, the update went fine, restarting, and then no response and always and always the same android screen,
now im trying to crash it by low battery, not by just take the battery out, maybe this'll work (but I dont think so)
don't know anything else

This has happened to me many times when I didn't wipe (the PHONE ). Take the battery out, place back in and hold Home + Power to get into menu. Type alt + w to wipe, afterwards, alt + s to apply update.zip from sdcard, then Home+Back to restart. The first time loading, it can take up to ten minutes to get past the Android screen (mine took 7-10 minutes), so be patient.
Post back with any results.

that wont work i just read the write up. In order for the goldcard to work, the g1 has to go into fastboot, which none of our devices can go into fastboot nor recovery. I even formatted a sdcard to start the process but when i got to the fastboot i was so disappointed.
One detail, when i flashed the new spl I was doing something else and when i check my phone it back to recovery utility windows itself ,it was in 15 20 minute, after that i reinstalle jf1.5 and all worked ok
what this means. if you are flashing your phone and before these process finishes your take out you battery, you can bricking you phone. take patience and wait.
Good luck
ps:i change the final text for sir*mez

this happened to the one that bricked.
Flashed H Special SPL with battery at 89% - saw it update, rebooted on its own, saw the chip with the arrow on it and it rebooted. once after that it hanged. I waited 5 minutes and then took the battery out. Got my sdcard reader, renamed the jf v1.5 to update to reflash like instructed. powered the phone with home+power and got nothing but a hang on t-mobile G1 screen.
Both phones were done the same. One phone bricked and one phone flashed the SPL. So yes I guess I bricked one phone but a miracle happened with the other one. the one that flashed properly went into the recovery on its own right after the boot, but not in no 15-20 min wait like you said. you sure need to stop the blaming. i am not blaming anyone for my bricked phone, im just trying to find a solution. you are going to get this locked because of the bickering.
hey sir*mes was no my intentions blaming to anyone , i only want to say that all need to give more time to flash before take out the battery. only that.
i will do something for you , i will change the text, happy?
Good luck

So what harm would it do to try? From what I remember the goldcard on herald was supposed to get us into the bootloader even when we couldn't normally.
Let me be perfectly clear, those of us with the issue of a bricked device from loading the SPL from Haykuro are experiencing an actual case of being bricked.
Read carefully.
The phone WILL NOT turn on!!!!
We are looking for a solution that runs as far back as actually burning the SPL image directly to the phone's memory. I am even willing to try a hardware to hardware method to accomplish this.
I know the phone is still somewhat responsive because my laptop detects the USB connection to the phone but it will not recognize the device.. obviously because the communication is broken since the phone is dead. The power LED will turn on but only after I remove the battery first. Once I press the POWER key the LED turns off and will not light again until I remove and replace the battery.
Solutions that we are trying:
GoldCard method.
Looks like a couple of us have tried this but since fastboot can't see the device then we can't use this method unless someone knows something super seceret.
Crashing the device by allowing the battery to fully discharge. Unlikely but trying anyway.
Any other ideas?????
Thanks everyone for helping thus far!

ok but the phone wont go into bootloader. which is what im trying to get it to do. if i get it to bootloader i know i can fix it. even if it went to the recovery i could fix it. but I get nothing.
in order to create a goldcard for the dream it has to read the sdcard off fastboot which i cant get into.

The same happens on Heralds when the imgfs is messed up. To fix it, we force it to go into the bootloader mode and it does turn on. I wonder if it's something similar.
I meantioned in the big main topic an idea though I dont think anyone saw it.
In the past for other phones I was able to make recoveries using the computer while it was in the boot loop.
Anyone with the brick, try to see what happens when you do this:
adb remount
After the "T-Mobile G1" screen shows up. See if it says mount sucessful. I would try though it does not stay on the screen too long for me, not only that it might work for me just because it continues fine so its inconclusive.
If you get lucky and it says remount successful, you could try this:
adb shell recovery
I am not sure of the commands to follow from there, but it might allow you to flash a different update.zip file from the command line. If you get lucky like that, look up the commands and see how that might go. There has to be a way to communicate to the hardware when that screen comes up. Its good that that screen comes up, because it means its not 'fried' so to speak, it just has a misconfigured loader which doesnt have the correct set of instructions (good point about the different types of boards, thats most likely the issue) for THAT board. I would go back to the one that worked previously.
