This sounds great, would love to see some screen shots in the first post to see what it looks like.

Yea, I'd like to see here more info and some screenshots.. I don't believe that this is possible, because of complete different hardware.. Being a little sceptic.
I'm not admired that there's a possibility of using WM pro in the VOX...you have something similar on the Startrek (QTEK 8500): link
I will surely like to test it .
But I need to know if this will really work? If you have the ROM and test on your VOX/710, please post some images and scribe a little description about, so that we can analyze before we proceed to test
Sounds very interesting!
They have got WM6.1 Professional ported to the Wings from the Kizer in the Wings forum, maybe that's the place to ask for advice in porting WM6.1 Professional to the Vox http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389089

Pro..
Keep cool, i am not finished with this...and there are no helpfull posts within...
But how do you think to use it without touchscreen?
It will be far from user friendly...
Oh my...believe me, it is useable.
First;
A POCKET PC IS NOT ONLY HIS TOUCHSCREEN!!!
AND A SMARTPHONE IS NOT ONLY A POCKETCAMERA....or anything else than a SmartPhone.
The PRO OS works well on SP, the OS is nearly useable like Standart, (no big differences, you can navigate with dpad+softkeys on ppc, too...)
It is like a PPC with the lack of a Touchscreen, you can carry most of the PPC apps you love, but not be able to install on your Standart-SP...
Most SP-Apps wont install, because there are differences in some Cab-Configs, but most of them works well......and the VOX/WINGS got a qwerty/z Keypad...ideal to use as SIP..
Ive a StarTrak and a Tornado, both are running PRO, i like it, sure, its not useable like a PPC with Touchscreen, but nice to have.
AND DONT FORGET;Smartphones are mostly similar with the PPCHardware (exept the Touchscreen, stop buggin me)
I really hope you get it working sounds great.
especially since I miss one major feature in wm6(.1) standard: WIFI proxy.
it's not possible (as far as I know) to use an http proxy on your wifi connection.. which is a pitty.
if you get it working, I'll most likely install it

There is also Fake Curser that will do the job of the stylus/ finger on a touch screen to close apps and to change to different tabs in apps.
This sounds very prommising if it can be pulled off.

You should be able to boot a Professional from the HTC Wizard since they have the very same hardware, but I don't know if the lcd driver would work.
Anyway, you should know, the Omap 850 cpu has native support for touchscreen, if you can find where the pins connect, you could possibly adapt it (assuming you can find a 2.4" 4 wire touch panel).
Another option would be using the mini-usb jack. The cpu has both client and host side usb support. If it's mapped to the connector, and you can make windows put the usb in host mode you can connect a mouse, touchscreen or whatever you want and use it from there (if you get external power to the device you are connecting)
My vox is still under repair (3rd week already) so cannot test anything yet sorry
i would love to try it...
How long will it be until we see the first test version of this ROM?

How is the new experience with the TP? Is it worth the money for the average Joe? Which features are notoriusly superior? Thanks for any details...I´m on the fence about the upgrade....

There is a similar thread asking the same/similar question - do a search.
1. Missing key mapping, kaiser can map a hardware key u want, TP cannot. (no app support remap hard key on TP)
2. Slow, rearly slower than kaiser, may be 640 x 480 device more hungry?
3. Keyboard miss "win" key & "ok" key.

1 can be done through registry editing or using a program like (AEBPlus) I think it was?
3, the American version has that. :O
Oops, just realized the OP is from CR, so the American version won't help him much.

Not for the average joe I guess lots of eye-candy goodness for VGA, but still slow imo when using touchflo3d. Still need to get used to TomTom in VGA.. it's renders the streets really small compared to my tytn II before!

I am pleased with TP, as it open up more options for VGA and G-Force appliaction. I used to flash a lot of ROMs since I was using Kaiser, but I am quite satisfied with TP original rom, only doing some tweaking here and there...
I agree that the speed is slower than Kaiser, but I believe with more people using TP, there will be better solution in XDA. Would everyone agree on this?

AEButton Plus can't map more than a few hard keys on the face and sides of a device, as far as I know (and I have it installed on my Mogul)
I don't regret going from my Kaiser to the TP at all.
After following some of the "Tweaks" suggested in the below threads and installing most of the programs to my memory card I honestly don't feel a speed difference.
I just see the TP as the Kaiser done properly - OK anything running on WM will have small bugs, but as ecoline said the more poeple using the TP the more we'll clear the bugs and improve the TP's performance.
Raphael Tweaks
Advanced Configuration Tool v3.2
Tweak collection for the HTC Touch Pro
Another thing I want to add-- TP is like Kaiser buffed for VGA processes. Bigger images to render = more power and memory to do it. All of my contacts in my Kaiser has a full screen contact picture for S2U2, and checking them in TP they've been reduced about 1/3 their size. It was fast browsing them, but as soon as I changed the pictures to match the size of my TP screen browsing them was slow. S2U2 for VGA needs more memory than the QVGA.
So it's like using Kaiser but VGA. Still slow in my standard, but lots of VGA goodness
I found the Kaiser with Touchflow 2D installed (along with the other cabs for all the other apps that are on the Touch Pro) was actually a lot nicer to use. The screen updated instantly (e.g scrolling left and right on the tf bar, you could see the cursor under your finger and the screen always kept up); whereas on the Pro you see the cursor follow your finger and the screen update is about 12 frames a second.
All in all, with the Kaisers screen update and finger following speed makes Touchflow a nicer experience.
But.... the Touch Pro screen is fantastic and in VGA which makes everything so crisp. The keyboard is even better than Kaisers and has full querty 5 lines. The look of the phone is sexy for once. The size of the phone is much better even though it is only 1cm shorter (a couple of mm thinner and it would be perfect). The camera actually takes good pictures that I actually keep, the first for a camera on a phone for me, though the LED flash is just like any other - bit of a gimmik. Everything else hardware wise is at least as good as on the Kaiser or better.
In my first week I found the Touch Pro to be very buggy and slow. It's crashed a couple of times, freezed for no apparent reason (from 1 to 20 seconds), the screen update in the interface is slow and annoying, the finger detection sometimes seemed to miss now and then making it annoying to use at times. Typing messages would freeze randomly at about 100 typed chars intervals and then come back 10 seconds later!!!
Sounds bad doesn't it?
But, I have since fixed most of the problems. Have since upgraded to the DXS v15 ROM, done a few of the tweaks from this forum, fixed the typing freeze bug by turning WiFi power to "best performance" (strange but it fixes it). I'm hoping the WiFi power setting fixes other freezes I've experienced.... time will tell. I've even managed to stop it auto connecting to GPRS data with Pocket Toolman 2 (I have have to pay for data on my contract), prefer to use WiFi, this should be an option in Windows Mobile but isn't.
Now, after a lot of fiddling the phone seems to be very usable, dare I say very nice to use. My main gripe is that the interface doesn't run quicker with fast screen update and have better finger input accuracy from being faster. I can't see why this can't be fixed, if the Youtube app can show videos at 20fps (or whatever it is) whilst downloading & decoding mpeg and read the touch screen, why doesn't Touchflow manage to display 10 2d image at a decent framerate (as you finger scroll the bar to select the view, all it is doing is displaying static screens to show which you have selected).
Oh, and there are a couple of things missing or wrong with the Touchflow apps too. For instance, the 3d email view is very nice but there is nothing to show which emails in the view are unread; And there is no way to tell if you are at the first or last email.... or any other. The image view needs an option to rotate the image (it rotates if you turn the phone, but if the image is wrong and needs rotating, it will just rotate to the screen orientation and still be wrong). The email view does really need updating as it is like a dumb blonde - pretty but useless, you end up having to go into the normal email list view to actually manage your emails.
I'll conclude with this though: At the end of the day I wouldnt go back the the Kaiser, the Touch Pro is much sexier, nice to hold and show. The usability is pretty good after you update and tweak it. I can only see things improving with updates. And as for worth the money, Vodafone do the phone free with 600 mins & unlimited texts on a £35 contract..... great value to me.
Having never dared to change my device's rom for warranty reasons, and not having been able to do any official upgrade as my kaiser was an operator version ( SFR aka Vodafone ) I must say I am very satisfied with my touch Pro. I find it superior to the Kaiser in EVERY aspect comparing two official roms : so much better battery life, much better performance even if the resolution is much better, instant landscape to portrait switching...
The GPS is said to be worst (but I didn't ever manage to make it work correctly on the Kaiser anyways).
There are some small issues compared to the Kaiser :
- the softkeys are missing (right and left keys above internet and mail keys on the kaiser - an issue for some games but in fact it was a windows mobile 5 phone edition standard and has been deprecated, so recent software work perfectly without these)
- no scrollweel on the left side and that's a real loss. The central button can be used as a "virtual scrollweel" as it is touch sensitive but it only works with opera and is not very comfortable to use. However some third party utilies can map the volume slider, not very useful in my opinion, to up and down keys.
- The four front pannel keys and directionnal keys are physical but behind the same big plastic cover, which means the whole bottom half cover of the phone presses on a button. This means the directional keys, wich are in the center of this plastic cover are nearly useless...
Reminds me of some Apple mice...
BUT
- Touchflo 3D is an extremely good addition, eye candy and actually really useful (the preview of the mails for example is really excellent). A lot of great software additions compared to Kaiser.
- Having an FM radio too is a nice feature...
- Everything looks so much better in VGA... Even QVGA apps (games) are filtered so that you don't see big ugly pixels. And it's not just a question of look. Excel can actually be used with this resolution, and web browsing - with opera - is actually possible. On the kaiser it isn't, not just for a question of software or speed...
- The new keyboard is WAY better, specially if you need to type special caracters like in french.
- I had a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Look 720 before buying the Kaiser, the idea being not to have a phone and an organizer in my pockets all of the time, but I was disgusted with this phone which wasn't up to my expectations, inferior in many aspects to my FS pocket PC, I found it ugly, slow, too much power consuming, with a horrible screen, and of bad material quality: one of the small plastic clips of the battery panel got quickly broken... Not to mention those missing hardware drivers.
I thought I would never buy an HTC ever again.
But I did, and now I can get rid of my Fujitsu Siemens pocket pc which was so good but is now in every way inferior to my new phone (well apart from the big screen - but that's not good for a phone - and the 3.5 jack)

Tomtom already has software specifically made for the VGA/touchpro screens in beta, will be released sometime in November according to them.
Tomtom Navigator 7 posted here actually leaked (extracted) from HTC Diamond since Jun 20, 08. The newer version 7.451.9033 (VGA and QVGA) is available also.
Yup its like a Kaiser with everything fixed, looks better and is more usable in daily use. Very happy with mine.
Hi guys,
I'm trying to pick between the two. The main problem I'm having is whether I'll miss having a physical keyboard. As I wont be able to have a play with either of these phones before I make a purchase I want to be completely sure that I'm picking the phone I'm going to prefer.
So whats your opinion? Is the HD's keyboard suitable for you?
Do you miss playing silly small games on your HD? How are games on the Pro?
Also another important thing for me is the performance, I heard the Diamond can be quite laggy (With the Touchflow, which I plan on turning off anyway) but I would still like to know if the Pro is just as bad as the Diamond, and whether the HD is a significant improvement!
Cheers,
Luke
diamond rocks
There is a small lag , BUt it again depends on wether the ROM is a light one or a packed one . There are many out here , lighter ones ..for eg V7 , and there is one other fact about these phones , that if you do have a lot of calender enteries and contacts ...it lags a little ...
Calender entries aren't a big deal, don't tend to take full advantage of the calender. Though I do have 60+ contacts.
Have Diamond and I like it but wish I'd waited for the HD. I don't miss the keyboard from the hermes much as I expected.
Keyboard
I'm using a Herald. During some days I used the Diamond keyboard SIP, but after a hard-reset I did not install it again.
I'm using the physical keyboard when sitting or stopping in a comfortable place (office, train, restaurant) and I must work a lot (i.e. writing some project memories or preparing some lectures); on other cases, I usually try to use the stylus. When at building, I fear about missing the stylus (or maybe missing myself) in some concrete reservoir or some hole, so I liked to use the Diamond keyboard SIP, to write some small notes. So, my experience is I use keyboard about 30% of my time.
Looking the HD and the Pro specifications, I suppose they don't defer more than in design and small details.
If you need to work as "at home", I suggest you to get the device with built-in keyboard.
Thanks for the replys guys.
As I do a fair amount of blogging and web browsing I have been thinking that the Pro might be best suited for me, but on the other hand I do use remote desktop a lot (From work to my home PC) so being able to use remote desktop "On-the-go" would be rather handy especially on the large screen of the HD.
Another question I have is how often do you Pro and Diamond users make use of the D-pad? It doesn't seem like it would have very much use on a touch screen WM device.
D-Pad? Hardly ever.
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on running such an active worldwide community all linked by just one devotion to technology. This is my first post though I have been following this forum for a while. I am getting a new Tornado ( The deal was unbeatable!!) and I am pretty much excited.
I am searching for a cutting(/bleeding) edge ROM or even a Kitchen to spice up my new Tornado and I am prepared to learn the tricks and tools required to have a fully-functional and bug-free ( I hope I can, with your help!) 6.1 ROM having all the important and offering good usability and functionality to the end user ( ME! ).
So, what do you suggest? I am prepared for a steep learning curve, that usually accompanies this kind of a quest
My Opinion ...
I use actualy BlacKura Wm 6.1 Profesional rom. I like the fonts, are small, and the resolution is like PC screen. I wass able to install SPB Menu Shel 2.14, what i like most, + is a Office build in. What is verry useeful at least for me.
Lacks? Hmmm there are some aplications specialy donne for SP (smartphone) what tell me it can't been instaling on this device, what i understand because this rom is not designed for SP.
If u actually try this rom ( remeber to free your aplication lock) , remember u have a fake cursor ( like a mouse what u can use with joystick ) , what can be enabled by pressing home key for 3 secs ( that one what enable the Start menu)
Other ROms ( beleve me i wass tryd almost all) i dont like, the fact are kinda WM5 ( big fonts , menu like anyother cell without WM ).
Regards Camelia .
Touchscreen?
Actually even I am looking for a ROM with a small font size. And judging by what you say, the ROM supports the programs written for a touchscreen device, right?
So how do you operate the cursor, I mean how do you click or drag? Is this method fast? I found out that the ROM is fast, but I could not get the way it works. So please shed some light on this.
If you like profesional ROMs, try also kamikadze's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455950
It is great looking, small font. As for how to use professional ROMs that are ment for touchscreen devices, as kingoldstyle suggested, use SPB Menu Shell application, it allows you to move through menus very quickly using number buttons. Also, sursor can be activated and moved with a joystick, not so fast and comfortable, but I rarely use it with mine phone, only when I need to set alarm. Other than that, I dont need cursor.
Shell?
Thanks a lot for your reply.
And where can I get the Shell?
Apps
Should I install touchscreen or smartphone applications in this ROM?
And what is the performance benefit when compared to the Smartphone ROM?
Will the Professional ROM support Point UI in the Faraday?
You can try them all. Some touchscreen applications are difficult and slow to use, so its up to you to decide what you want with your phone. I use smartphone applications mostly. I installed professional ROM because I like the good look of it (in combination with spb shell). The ROM is very fast, I didnt measure their performance, because when I installed it for the first time I just loved it. Some people here say its faster.
Check your PM.
I tested Point UI Home 1.51 on my Qtek 8310 (HTC Tornado) with WM Professional ROM and works great and I don't need use FakeCursor.
I think that, Professional ROM is faster than Smartphone ROM on HTC Tornado. I use Professional ROM on my smartphone about 9 months and I wouldn't return on smartphone ROM.
Thanks.
Thanks a lot, everybody.
I shall upgrade as soon as it reaches me.
Oh, the wait!!!

Have you tried SPB shell, and if yes, do you find PointUI better, and why?
Goran_: for me is better Point UI than SPB Mobile Shell. Point UI is faster and nicer for me.
I have recently seen alot of ROMS for WM6.5 and they all look the same from the screenshots.... ugly!
I mean what is with all the HUGE text listed down the screen, am I the only one who thinks this is a stupid setup? What happened to the Start Menu and clean today setup?
Are people just updating to WM6.5 just 'cos its 6.5, or do you actually like the look of it? Please give your opinions on WM6.5, and more importantly what is the difference between WM6?
I am using WM6.1 on 2 of my devices as I like the Today Screen feel and the way everything is set out. I am contemplating putting 6.5 on a device just to test it out, is it really worth it? is it customizable to make the home screen not just BIG words down the screen? maybe a clock even lol.
thanks everyone for your opinions.
i think it looks great.
As long as you have good apps installed to cover nasty WM UI no matter if you have 6.1 or 6.5
I personally do not like the honeycomb, but I do like that the hole UI is more finger friendly
Let´s see the WM7!! hope they really impress us
I like it because its 6.5 that .4 of more awesome 1337ness!!!! lol.. I actually just like the better slightly larger menu buttons. the new start menu is neither here nor there for me.. I don't like titanium, it has potential, but till you can have more than one link on click per panel it is pretty lame to me.. seems to take more effort to get to my necessary apps with it than without it.. I have been using wad2 on my last few flashes. My device is i910 Omnia, with the BlazingWolf 7.1 rom.
On my observation, the main advantages of WM6.5 over WM6.1 are:
RAM Managemenet: In WM6.5 I never need to run the apps to clear RAM. Any time I quit a program, the RAM will be released imediately.
Power Consumption Controll: The battery life is noticably enlonged copare using WM6.1, on same load.
Connectivity: One example is on WM6.1 any time I'm using Internet Sharing I need to manually switch phone band to WCDMA to ensure stable fast data connection. And if I forget to switch it back to GSM or Auto after finished the Internet Sharing, phone calls on 3G mode will drain the battery very fast. But on WM6.5, I noticed that I don't need to switch phone band again, just leave it as Auto. The OS is so smart that it knows what time to switch to what band. Example, when I use internet sharing, it will stay at 3G for most of the time. When I make or receive a phone call, it will switch to GSM immediately after the phone connected.
Finger Touch Experience For this I don't explain more, it's just much more comfortable on finger/stylus responds.
Third Party Apps Interface: Well I'm not a developer, but from the changes on some registry structure, I can definitely tell that WM65 will be more friendly to third party application developers.
These are very core elements of a mobile os. The progress of wm65 on these points is obviously noticable.
But because the change of the core. It causes a big problem on legacy apps compatibility. People find that a lot of apps running well on wm6 just can never run on wm65.
But I think currently both Microsoft and third party software vendors are working tight on this issue. At least for most part of popular softwares, we can find a wm65 compatible version now. But for some speciall software, we can not find it if the developer did not upgrade it.
For sure, there are certain advantages of using 6.5 over 6.1. (The advantage is not only 'skin' things that you can see it, more important is on the 'core'.)
Hence your choice just depend on what softwares you're using. If for all your 'must-have' softwares you can find a WM6.5 compatible version or its replacement, why not use WM6.5.
Edit: I don't like the Titanium & the headache to customize it either. I just disabled it & leave an 'empty today', but with HButton, I can reach all frequently used apps within one single touch.
The RAM used by Titanium is 3.5MB+, compares to HTC Home @1.5MB+, & M2D @ 7MB+.
I like the looking of Honeucomb,(for showup only), but I also use QuickMenu, which is more functional.
Must to say that above experience are from the single ROM I've used only, maybe there are performance variaties on different ROMs & devices.
And at last, one of my most favarite part is the new PIE, it definitely can display whatever a desktop ie does except only one tab allowed.
I like 6.5. I find it runs pretty well on the kaiser, and I prefer its look to the old Windows 3.x interface found in the older versions. Plus, the finger scrolling is superb. And if you don't like the honeycomb, there are other start menu layouts, one example here. WM6.5 is just a band-aid to hold us over until WM7, but it's still a step in the right direction for Microsoft.
Dave
Yes, I think i will be waiting for wm7, but i just can't help myself any longer and I am going to take the plunge to wm6.5 on my Elfin or Wizard just to give it a go, I think it should run well on the elin with the RAM it has and without really checking out the custmizations, my assumptions is basically on the interface on standard screenshots i have seen.
thanks for the input guys, only a flash will i be able to add further opinions, as i am a heaver modder, and would need this to offer proper insight into the OS.
I've bounced back and forth between a couple 6.1 and 6.5 ROMs. I use TouchFLo because I hate 6.1's today screen and Titanium is pretty bland. I think that the current touchflo manila 2.1 is about the best you can get for WM6.1 currently, but I don't think manila 2.1 is streamlined for WM6.5. I feel like I'm taking a step back in integration and fluidness when I use Touchflo 2.1 and WM6.5. Not much, but it just seems off. This leads me to think that the new manila 2.5 is HTC's update to bring that integration and fluidness to WM6.5. The specualtion is that manila 2.5 is going to be for the new Firestone. While that is probably true, HTC has also mentioned that the new Topaz and Rhodium will get WM 6.5 upgrades. I would like to assume that this upgrade will also include manila 2.5 because if I feel that WM6.5 and TouchFlo 2.1 is lacking a complete feel then I would take that HTC has also noticed this. Yeah, I'm rambling I know. Just my thoughts. Bottom line on WM6.5 is that it seems like Microsoft just made a piss poor attempt at skinning there relic OS. That just pertains to the aesthetics though. I know there were unseen changes that do have their benefits.
(Sorry for all the "I feel and I would assumes", just ponderings)
