Sorry, but you really need to search. REALLY need to. No, REALLY.
Have you ever used The Wingster? On every single ROM that is flashable by newbs (non-LZX ROM's) I have a "How to Flash this ROM" link. Take a look at the PointROM for example...
http://thewingster.com/pointrom.aspx
On there, middle of the page, a nice "How to Flash" link!!! Same as almost all of the other ROM's.
So, follow the instructions: http://thewingster.com/howtoflashnbhuspl.aspx

Nicely said.

anyone else completely confused?

I'm so confused with all the lingo, root, kernel, s-off, ruu.
It just seems so overwelming. I don't think I want custom roms, all I want is att stuff removed, and faster data speeds.
And I'd like a way to return to stock in case I need to return the phone.
What phone are you coming from?
Read, as much as you can Google is your friend. Also if your having problems with goldcard checkout the unlockr. Setting up sdk isn't all that bad. This is coming from a renewed rookie with HTC phones because I've been away from adb for two years since I got rid of my dream and magic.
Coming from an iPhone. Don't understand anything about adb, sdk, terminal, etc.
Haven't tried making the gold card yet, ordered an sdcard but it hasn't come in yet.

Just use the card that came with the phone for goldcard. Use the goldcard helper tool from the market, get the mcc 2 number from the tool, go to the link provided, insert the mcc 2 number into the box on the page where it asks for it, get the file that was emailed to you, download the hack kit in the stickied thread of development, after installing Android sdk, unzip the hack kit using 7zip and only 7zip into the tools folder located in the Android folder. From that point you are ready to create a goldcard. That's where the sticky thread is your friend.
I know it sounds like a lot and in the end once you read up and understand how to use adb you'll understand its not that bad. Remember i am a rookie as well with most of this and would be glad to help as you progress
I think creating the gold card seems like the easy step, found a program that will do it and upload it to phone without needing the sdk.
My concern is all the other stuff, different kernels, different radios, etc. Downgrading the radio loses sound, so then you have to upgrade it again, but then the sound isn't as good, etc.
Then someone posted the stock kernel, compared to a telus kernel, what's the difference, and why put one over the other?

The program doesn't work you need mcc2 number. The sound problem is a correlation of combining the dhd time with our kernel.

This will help with adb.Once you start tinkering you will figure it out quickly. As far as reading all the sound issues its really personal preference. You have to do these thing on your device and see if you have the same issue. Alot of the times you will find it that it comes down to different strokes for different folks. I myself have none of the issues that others have other than a weak external speaker. Reading is a great tool but dont get overwhelmed with the information your taking in because a good chunk will not pertain to you and your device. Just stick with the core information and what the op stated
The sound issue is the only thing that is not 100%, which will be fixed soon enough. We will get our own source soon enough, but for the time being dhd roms will do fine with either the stock or TELUS kernel. Personally the TELUS is better for fast data speeds.

Just my two cents and I hope you don't take offense to this, but you picked the wrong phone to jump into rooting and customizing since it's a new phone and the forums aren't yet up to speed on info. I would first read up in the Rodgers Magic 32A forum on how gold cards work, recovery, fastboot, adb, and custom roms work - these phones are broadly used and have been around for a while too.
I've read the instructions in the hack kit, and I still dont' get it.
I need to download the sdk, found that at http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
It says Terminal on the phone, so I need to download a terminal app from the market?
The commands look simple enough if I can figure out how to do them.
Edit, also need to download HTC sync?
read the guide Ive listed on how to install adb on the sdk and you will be fine.

After the downgrade, terminal gets installed with the Rom. Always remember to enable debugging and charge only. The terminal part is the hardest. Also after receiving temproot exit out so you can go back into your sdk folder. All the hackerize commands are done from the kit location.
Well, I can't do this at work, was planning on trying, but the sdcard reader in my printer here doesn't work, so I'll have to try it with my laptop at home. Just wasted time downloading all the packages.
Still seems very cumbersome and confusing.

Once you have root, you can install ROM manager from the market. Run ROM manager, scroll to the bottom and tap on "All ClockworkMod Recoveries" and select 2.5.1.3 or 2.5.1.4. DO NOT INSTALL 3.0.0.5, it is NOT compatible with Froyo ROMs.
Once you tap one of those versions, it will automatically download and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Load the ROM you want to install onto your SD card, and in ROM manager, hit "reboot into recovery".
When you get to recovery, go to Backup/Restore and make a backup of your current ROM. Then do a data/cache wipe (factory restore) and then go to Install ZIP from SD Card and select your new ROM. Flash and you're on your merry way

Read the included readme file in the kit its part of step two. The kit is designed so all you need to do is follow the instructions and input a few commands and it pretty much does everything for you minus pushing the power button to get into hboot. The second hackerize command is the actual downgraded Rom.

[INFO] The developer FAQ thread (all you need to know about things like ABD and REWT)

Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions for all you people coming here with questions like OMG HAO DO AI REWT MI TAB or MI ABD NUT WERKAN PLZ HALP, and the ever popular CN I RUT 0423 WIT DIS?
Lucky I have compiled the most popular questions and listed them here, with full explenation and solution.
Enjoy!
1. HAO DO I REWT MI TAB? I DUNNO WHER 2 FIND DIS THENKS.
Rooting your Transformer can indeed be done with the link here, however you will need some stuff beforehand like adb to get your Transformer rooted and ready to use that method. So for you guys who do not feel comfortable with that, do this.
2. WUT IS ABD PLZ HALP I DUNNO HOW 2 USE OMG SO CONFUZD
To get adb up and running, you simply have to follow the guide here. Oh, and you need the Asus PC Sync software from here. Simply select your PC operating system, download and install the Asus PC sync software.
Alternatively you can use the guide made by a kind xda member (screenshots included) here.
3. CN I R00T MY 0423 BUILD I WANN HAS ROMS?
Yes, indeed you can with the guides linked above.
4. OMG I HAS US/TW/UK/MOON TF101 CN I FLASH WW ROMS?!
After rooting and installing CWM you can flash any ROM you like, the regions only matter for stock updates at this time. So go ahead and flash any ROM you like.
5. WUT IS CIFS.KO && TUN.KO?!
If you don't know what it is, don't worry about it, it means you probably don't need it. But in the offchance you do need tun.ko for VPN, here is a link to installing openVPN.
6. I ROOTD AND MI CAMERA ++ BT NO WERKAN, WAT I DO?
Simply flash the BLOB_V5 file available in the root guide, use the same steps you used to flash (so not all the steps) BLOB_V4, just replace the CWM_BLOB_V4 parts with CWM_BLOB_V5 and that should fix your issues.
7. OMG MI SD CARD NO WERK FOR FLASHAN ROMS WHAT DO?!
Try and use fix permissions from CWM, or try a couple of times. Another fix for the sd card issue you can try, is to put the non working sd card into an android phone then go to storage on the phone and erase the sd card. reinserting that card into the transformer will then allow it to mount to CWM.
if it still doesn't work your card is probably hated by CWM (some are, for what reason we don't know) and you'll need to use a different SD card.
8. HAO 2 OVERCLOCK, MOAR CLOCK
You can overclock if you have root and CWM already. Simply go here and flash this kernel through CWM.
9. CN I FLASH BLOBZ THRU CWM
There is currently 1 way to flash the blob through a zip update if you are not on the 0325 build. This is by flashing the latest Modaco ROM which has the BLOB included.
10. CN I UNREWT MI TAB? I HAS NO WORRANTIES ANYMOAR
Yes. Simply flash the blob from the Asus website using the same steps you used to flash the CWM blob. here is also a guide.
11. I UPDAETED TO 3.1 NOW REWT NO WERK, WAT DO?
Download the 8.2.2.9 update from Asus and copy it to your internal memory to downgrade or do this.
12. MI TAB IS A BRIK, IT NO DO ANYTHING OMG HALP D: <- sadface
You can use this method to try and unbrick it, if that doesn't work, you're pretty much screwed.
13. WAT MI BATTERI IS DRAINING WTF SHUD I DO?
Well you see we made a shocking discovery today, electronics use electricity while turned on! I know! We were just as surprised as you are!
OMG CANNOT FIND MI INFO WTF IS FORUM SERCH?
For all of you slightly special people out there, here is a list of other threads that might help you find what you need. These have been cherrypicked by moi, feel free to post important additions.
[INFO] The Ultimate Transformer Information Thread - Pretty much what the title states, it has links to just about anything.

I believe the op is a little tired of people asking the same questions over and over. I thought it was kinda funny...

Also informative at the same time.

seshmaru, a fix for the sd card issue, #7 is to put the non working sd card into an android phone then go to storage on the phone and erase the sd card. reinserting that card into the transformer will then allow it to mount to CWM.
just thought you could add that into your list. its been verified by myself and then a couple others tried it also.

I have to agree with some of the previous posters, that this is not easy to read, and the humour is old and nothing special (and repetitive for that matter - one witty question in that style would have gotten the same 'humorous' point across while still keeping the FAQ useful). This way people will probably hardly use it, and certainly not refer to it. That's a shame...

Lol, I think its fine. It's only the headings, not like he/she typed up the actual useful information that way, its still very readable and VERY useful for anyone needing the info.
Sorry, I have to state I find the post annoying as hell. It take four times as long to attempt to read and looks worse than my 7yr old's text messages. But, for any who are so desperate for help that they make it through child speak...
Hopefully, it helps them out.
It's only the headers that are slightly more difficult to read, the actual content is written in perfectly comprehensible english. Besides by having to decipher it, atleast they'd be doing SOMETHING for the info instead of gettng it simply handed to them.

[Q] First time installing rom

I am a first time android owner. I have tried to read through all of the forums that I can on xda, but can't quite find the right answer.
I have a samsung galaxy s 4g, successfully rooted with superoneclick, no problem.
I am now interested in using custom roms, and have bought and installed Rom Manager on the reference from a friend. I have flashed CWM 3.2.0.0, yet I am unable to backup my current ROM. When it reboots, it puts me into recovery 3e and I can't do anything but restart. I am leery about using Odin, and about the same as Heimdall as I would rather be able to backup what I currently have.
Any help or directions to a thread I have missed would be greatly appreciated
phone stats
firmware 2.2.1
Kernal 2.6.32.9
build FROYO.VUVKB5
You'll have to use Odin at least once, and I believe (not positive on this) ROM manager causes problems on these phones. I'm not sure how to post links from my phone, but look in the development forum, go into the ref. Bible, down in guides theres a detailed tutorial called GB ext4 starter pack or something along those lines.
It will set you up with everything you need you just need to install a ROM on your sd card, I would recommend ICBINB kj1 as that's what I'm on and it performs great, but you should also give Valhalla a look.

ROM MANAGER DOES NOT WORK WITH THIS PHONE.
You must install Dr Honks kernel and it will give you red CWM. Read the Bible and the Noobs guide and it walks you through everything step by step.

He's talking about my guide. You can click on the link in my signature. "GB starter pack"
Just a comment: if you want to stick with froyo instead of updating to gingerbread for some reason, click the "Bali v3.3 + CWM" link in FB's sig. That will allow you to install drhonk's kernel, which will allow you to access the CWM Recovery correctly. Then you can make backups and flash ROMs for froyo, or consider updating to gb with FB's "GB starter pack" link.
I made the same mistake with ROM Manager

PS, thanks ultima
Thank you for the links and the direct answers!
My only other question is about step 1 in FB's BG ext4 starter. when you say instal busybox onto the sd card, is it just placing the whole zip file onto, or do I need to create a file and place the two folders inside?
install the whole zip to the root of the sd card
do not extract or anything

I never said install...
After formatting the SD card with the steps above, put your favorite GB ROM, and install_busybox.zip onto the SD card
So it's moving the zip files, NOT extracting them.
I realized that I had misread it shortly after I posted. But I just thought I would ask clarify.
Everything worked like a charm!

Quick question about a2sd as I am setting up for first time. What type of ext should partition be for this ROM/kernel?
To partition your sc card, back up your sd card on your pc. (The process erases everything on it) After you have it backed up go into cwm recovery/advanced. Highlight partition sd card. Highlight 512m, enter. Then hight light 0m, enter. Cwm will do its thing then when its done its all ready to go. Theres no need to worry about 2, 3 or 4ext etc. When its done just put your stuff back on the sd card and thats it.
Could you change the name of this thread a little? It is really confusing when I get my email notifications.

[guide and steps] how to dualboot 2 or more roms using dualbootpatcher app

[GUIDE AND STEPS] HOW TO DUALBOOT 2 OR MORE ROMS USING DUALBOOTPATCHER APP
Howdy All!!!
Today, I'll be guiding you how to Dual Boot 2 ROM from S5 G900H device. This guide can also work for other Phone and Models as well, as long as it is been supported by DualBootPatcherAndroid app.
I'm not the creator of the DualBootPatcherAndroid app, I'm just the user that decided to share a guide and steps for using the DualBootPatcherAndroid app.
With this, we don't need to flash our current ROM away from our devices to try a new ROM. We just test any ROM by Dual Booting it and leave our Daily ROM Untouched. Also, there's NO LIMIT to the number of ROM you want to install on your Device, as long as there's Available Space on your Device or Micro Sd Card. And, any ROM that you Dual Boot that you don't want for one reason or the other, you can easily Delete it and it won't affect you Primary ROM which should be your Daily use ROM. You just Delete the ROM then you good to go with your Daily ROM.
DUALBOOTPATCHER NOW SUPPORT ODIN FILES AS WELL
I pay my Respect by giving Credit to the following:

I'm also thanking all other Members and Developers for given Support one way to the other to the above Mentioned OP's.
There's no way you gonna brick you device for following this Guide. You only put your device in DANGER if you Flash any ROM that's not Recommended for you device and if you include any other steps apart from my complete step... Then you have YOURSELF to BLAME!!!
First is to get everything that is needed, best to get everything ready and setup.
1> You need to be on the Primary ROM that you want to be using, that will be the ROM you using daily. My is AJ'S ROM NOTE7 PORT at the moment of creating this Guide and Steps.
2> You need to download the other ROM that you want to Dual Boot with. My is WANTED ROM as at now.
3> You need to download the DualBootPatcher app from the link https://dbp.noobdev.io/
4> You need to install the DualBootPatcherAndroid app on your Primary ROM.
5> After installation of the DualBootPatcherAndroid app, open it and it will ask you to set kernel and reboot, do as it instructed you to do... But, if it did not ask you to reboot your device that fine but if it said you should reboot then don't be a hero, just reboot.
6> Open the DualBootPatcherAndroid again if you reboot your phone, click on ROM and you see just your Primary ROM with a tick. Press the 3 dash on the top left hand of the phone.
7> Click on Patch Zip File, and click on the plus(?) button at the bottom of the right side of the phone.
8> Navigate to where the Second ROM is that you want to Dual Boot, and click on it, something will pop up with info about your device, leave that and click on the Partition Configuration and you will see list of where to install the ROM. You can choose Data Slot or Extsd Slot. Let me explain :
Data Slot: If you have space size you can choose Data Slot as you install more apps your space size will be reducing and you might end up with "Insufficient Space" message.
Extsd Slot: if you choose that then the ROM will be install in your ExtSdCard but the Data Files will be install in the phone memory but the System Files will be in the Memory Card.
9> After choosing your choice for installing the ROM, you now have to choose ID for the ROM, it's a name you want to call it. Now mind you, if you want to install any other thing ZIP files from recovery to this ROM, you MUST name it the same name and follow the process starting from number 6. If your satisfy with the ROM name you choose, then click "Continue". Then choose where you want to save the new ROM, and the click save.
10> Now reboot to recovery and navigate to where you save the new ROM and flash it as normal. You need not worry cause it will be installed in the new name that you named it.
11> After installation, reboot as normal, it will take longer than 10 to 15 minutes to show the Setup Screen but don't worrying it doing it's thing in the background. To know you on track, when it's restarting and you see the light at the very top left side of the phone ON,* then you know you on track, just leave it and soon you be greeted with the Setup screen of the ROM.
12> From the Setup Screen you definitely should know what to do.
13> When you've COMPLETED the Setup, the next thing to do is to install the DualBootPatcherAndroid app, that is what you be using to Switch ROMS.
14> To Switch ROMS:
I> Open the DualBootPatcherAndroid app
II> Press the 3 dash on the top left hand of the phone
III> Click on ROMS (for the first time it will ask to Set Kernel, go ahead and do it)
IV> Click on the ROM you want to Switch to (the one with a tick is the one it will always boot up whenever your device restart)
V> Reboot the device.
VI> Once Reboot, you be on the selected ROM.
Go ahead and Explore the DualBootPatcherAndroid app. But whatever you do. DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR PRIMARY ROM UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND AND KNOW WHAT YOU DOING.
That's ALL there's to it. I hope this Guide been Helpful and easy to Understand. I Might FLASH my Phone from Scratch to create a Video Guide if I happen to find myself something to record with.

@faqeeh.f,
Kindly follow the Guide and Steps. Instruction is not to add anything. Nothing will conflict with anything cause the DualBootPatcherAndroid app will sort it out.
Once again people, just follow the Guide and Steps as it is... Is that too hard to understand

@sonisamanvaya,
Go to Step 9 of my Guide and the answers you'll need are all there, and remember to follow the Steps as it is, don't change or add anything else.

@yash92duster,
I'm glad to be able to support one way or the other, that's why we ALL here to give support, to get the best among the best for our devices world wide:good:
As for the question you asked, I can't tell now cause I've 3 ROMS running on my device... WANTED ROM 6.3, AJ'S ROM 2.2, and CM-13.0.
What I'll do later today is to wipe everything and start from scratch and give the information details you asked for and be able to tell you.
