Hello there,
This is probably a stupid question but.. here it goes! Is there anyway to do a ROM Upgrade using mac osx?
All the best,
Joao Oliveira.
sure! Just install Windows in either parallels or bootcamp!
Heh, only joking! It's possible to upgrade the ROM using the SD card, see the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336158
I've done this before on my TyTn 1 and it worked a treat, easier than using windows in some ways!
hi jcwacky, is it riskier flashing ROM using SD Card then through windows?
i know that i won't take risk using MAC though
just a question, how to instal file .exe using MAC? someone said i need to take the cab files out of the .exe but how? care to show? thanks mate.....
I use vmware to flash new roms. It has worked great for me and I've never had a problem. I'm not sure if this reason alone is good enough to justify installing parallels or vmware, but it does work.
As for installing .exe files, I use this program to extract the cabs:
http://echoone.com/filejuicer/
There is a free demo. It works forever, but watermarks images found in the .exe files. So you can get the cabs out just fine without registering.
thank you sooo much gthing!

I don't use parallels anymore, I use vmware fusion. But the key to either solution is to make sure you map the usb port into the virtual machine. I believe OS X sees it as "generic RNIDS" or something like that. Just make sure that port gets routed to the virtual machine and you're fine.
hi gthing,
do u use microSD to flash your ROM? is it save? or through XP is more preferrable?

I've never tried it through the MicroSD card. I prefer to use Windows XP for flashing.
'
Just make sure whatever you do that you have HardSPL and you should be fine - windows or MicroSD.
I do ROM flashes using my gaming box. But FileJuicer is just what I need for doing day-to-day app installs. Thanks for the link!

O.k. for everyone who's traying to Flash in Vista
Donwload the files from this link: http://rapidshare.com/files/38401715/Manual_and_files.rar.html
and extract them in a new created folder like for example your desktop. Extract the USB Modem Vista in a different folder on your desktop (easy to find)
- put your device in bootloader mode (press and hold power, light and softreset button)
- connect the MDA to your computer.
- open computer management (devicemanager) in vista, rightclick computer in startmenu and select manage (see step 1)
- in computermanager open devicemanager (step 2)
- follow step 3 and 4.
After step 4 browse to the folder where you extracted the USB Modem Vista and choose next.
It will install the active sync drivers to vista and you will be able to flash.
I attached a exit bootloader file to exit bootloader mode (you can also install drivers without flashing the device)
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO EXIT BOOTLOADER MODE!!!! EVEN BEVORE FLASHING!!!!
If you do it properly it will be done in less than 4 minutes.
Good luck.
Duanes

It looks like they added some signed usb drivers for 64bit vista in git. Get the files here:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...4;hb=5a4d0fa291a7269007701282f32cfda55ce39008
(direct link to a .tar of the files)
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...7f21122b4e37780fa5beba7dedc30d428a8dd0;sf=tgz
Anyone have Vista 64bit and want to try them out, and report back? Hopefully this will let you use the drivers without being in test mode, like you had to be with the ones that aziwoqpd had compiled.
Driver installs with no problems on my Vista 64 machine, but adb and fastboot give a device not found error :/
That error is the same as using an unsigned one in normal Windows bootup. I'll test it now and post back.
Btw: Here's an unsigned drivers workaround.
http://www.start64.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1200&Itemid=73
Edit:
Driver works perfectly. Windows 7 x64.
Crapped my pants at first though. Got a bsod while installing it. Lol.
Just the regular overclock bsod though, so it should go on fine for you guys.

Ah, cool. thanks for posting that workaround. I hadn't seen anything like that. I had only briefly looked into it before, but didn't see anyway to run unsigned drivers without going into test mode. (I don't use vista, so I wasn't that motivated to find a way )
Yea I get device not found on both unsigned and signed. But I also have a linux box to play with anyways.
look at all this old stuff.
Works 100% on 2 different vista 64 bit systems. Didn't make my video crash my machine on the one that usually does. So Kudos to the guy that made these! Tried & tested! ADB work'n. Might want to put this as a main thread or stickie for all those using vista 64bit or windows 7 64bit. Just a suggestion
Will this work with Haykuro's modified SPL?

okay its my fault for accidentally deleting it but I need the sdk tools. i redownloaded it but instead of a sdk folder there is just a sdk doc file. i read it and downloaded everything through the sdk manager and the tools are still not there. im lost and i looked through the guides and didnt see anything there. so what do I do now?
http://http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Then run the Setup exe
im on a mac...guess i should have said that first but i found it...its just not in the sdk directory anymore...and thats wut i was looking for specifically...the sdk tools now ~/Android/tools
duh...simple answer...just overlooked it trying to get ready for work...lol
