Thanks to all who don't use search and open directly a new thread, it is more difficult to find something for the searching people (like me), because you get a huge number of hits with irrelevant threads... Get it?
I don't want to demotivate but motivate to search and read. When you give directly a helping link, they stay doing it.
Seeing every time new opened threads from newbies with every time the same silly questions, that's very demotivating for us, the people who supposed to help you. And that's what you'r looking for here, somebody who wants to help you. We don't have to do it, but we like it because this forum is a bit like a hobby for us.
So, we can shoose, saying nothing more or trying to teach you how a forum works. I prefer the last thing... And if somebody like me (the bad one) point you in the right direction, it's not for beeing bad, but for getting a better usefull forum. You can see in my posthistory that it's really multiple times a day that new useless threads were opened...
Normally it's a work for the moderators, but they also have a live and can not be always here, because also them are doing this as a hobby. Be all glad that I don't be one of them or it was the same comment and also closing the thread directly.
I take some time for this post because I can quote him for futur use when I get comments again from not-readers, not-searchers, new-post-openers and silly-question-posters...
If you have really followed my posts, you know that I help a lot when the rules are followed a bit...
And do you know why I can help others? Because I read a lot...

And it gets worse and worse every day. Before there were only WM-users who were able to work with it. More and more the usual users buy a htc and always the same problems are passing here...
Your post isn't very helpfull also...
your forgetting the language problem i think
Many of us are struggling to find the exact words or terms.
But i read your post and sorry for the blame

I'm from Belgium. Here we speak Dutch, French and a bit German. Most of my English I've learned here and on the internet in general by reading and even now at the moment my online Google translator is opened... So no excuse for that...
But even with the exact words it's difficult to find the right thread or post if you're searching something. And that was not a problem about 2 years ago. That's started with all the new users now. It takes a little work, but if everybody does a little effort, this forum can be a strong instrument again...
Before htc was only buyed by people who were really interested. Now htc is a more commercial product. People buy it and thereafter they can not work with it. They are not interested, they just want that it works. So they don't read, don't search... They just want an instant solution or link for there problem... Result: 100's questions of the same type... It's really demotivating for people who love there device and want to learn and share knowledge here...
I really hope that mods can do something at that, but i'm afraid it's a hopeless situation. I'm allready happy if I can prevent somebody of opening a second useless thread, even the first one is allready one to much...
Yes i agree with koen-ronse, but problem is when man something search, have so much found undetermined result...newbie have problem. E.G. type "MMS error" , you have got about 5000 post results...And what doing that ! Read all 5000 posts ??? But it dosent your thing, it is something for Admin and Mods...Must something better make with "Search button". We "oldie WM-er" have search problem, how about "newbie" ??? Very hardly...

Hi everyone,
I recently installed Cookie V.8 on my HD2. In the option to choose wallpapers eI get just a blank white screen. I reinstalled it and got the same results.
Can anyone say why this is happening.
Thanks for your help.

It's proly best to post this on the Cookie thread... You will get more help there.
I have the exact same problem...
What ROM are you using?
I am using:
ROM VERSION: Miri HD2 6.5.X - V17.0 WWE
ROM date 12/05/2010
Thanks,
Stan
your attention pleas!!
Please guys, everyday I see a new thread that is be open by someone who have a problem with CHT;
so pleas take this from me; post your question on the thread from CHT!!!
the reason why!!
simply by the fact that some problems are already asked!!! And that their was already give a solution to it!!
1) It is much easier to the creator of CHT to give you a perfect reply to it if it is asked in one and only thread! ( do you think that the creator have time too look in each new thread if someone have a problem with his creation?? ( I don't think so!)
2) If you asked it on the correct thread and the creator give you the solution to it the next people who have the same problems don't need to a) search everywhere to find the solution, and b) if his problem is already mention and the solution is given you don't need tho post a other thread and wait to someone see your problem and give a solution if he know it!
Thats all I got to say! Not to criticize you ore someone els, but it is simple logistic thinking!
I'm sure you will find much easier and faster your answerer there!!
have a nice day!

Hello everybody,
I'm sorry to post this here, but it appears that I don't have enough post to be able to reply in developpement section...
This is a question regarding Lowveld's rom named Endymion v3.3 for Desire S,
and the installation of patched "endymion control center" apk from his thread's 2nd post ...
Why this app is requesting acces to "paid service" in android ? like sms and direct phone number calling ?
Can someone who can please post this question in Endymion Rom thread...
thx to all

Well, if it's asking for it, it's because I forgot to remove them. There's nothing in Control Center needing those permissions, but as I started the app from an HTC template, it was probably there in the manifest and I forgot all about it.
The only permissions the Control Center actually needs (I think, I don't have the code here) are WRITE_SETTINGS to store some global stuff used by tweaks, and the one to access sdcard, which I don't remember the name. Next version I'll remove the unneeded permissions.
By the way, that question was a bit paranoid on your part. It's sort of ok to doubt something downloaded from market or other sources, but you have to trust the dev which built your rom. The reason is, anything I include in /system, with any permissions whatsoever, will be automatically accepted by the android package manager process. Apps can be made invisible to the app drawer with no effort at all, etc.
Bottom line: there would be many other ways to screw you over without actually asking you to install something and having you agree on it.
Cheers
Hello to everyone.
Many thanks for your deep involvement in getting an answer to my question.
I feel sorry about the emotions engendered by this question and I must say it now because I did'nt already as I more of a reader than a poster...
"Muito Obrigado" Lowveld for your amazing work that I use since the first hyperion..
I'm still "*****in" with my phone every WE since 4 month because I cannot decide wich one of your 3 roms to keep for daily use...
I'm not a devellopper no an IT guy, just a "geeky tech enthusiast" like many. Getting knowledge from what I read/see on the interweb.
True that a bit of "paranoid" thinking forwarded my question, but the answer is satisfying and understandable, as well as the approval of all users community..
Please keep up the good work !
(and please update Hyperion wich is still the best, battery-wise & big-fingers-wise !)
with Kind Regards ..

Hey,
Don't worry mate, really no harm done! It was just that I spend lots of time doing stuff for these roms, and maybe overreacted a bit.
Thing is, to a new user, asking for those permissions can really sound suspicious, so thanks for the heads up. But I do hope people that have been following my work for the last months think better of me...
Cheers

With all the fuss over various things If i was in your shoes i would have probably felt jumpy too.
My apologies for over reacting a bit.
We've just used lowvelds roms for quite a while now and feel quite loyal to them
I help A LOT of people here on xda all day everyday some donate some don't. its very hard to help people on xda cus when helping them other people jump in and start either telling the person im helping don't do that do this or they just plain old spam. i have helped a very large amount of people on g talk and they have told me they like to be helped MORE on g talk than on xda because we have 100% full privacy to do what we need to do. please choose how you like to be helped Either xda or PM or g talk. at the end of the week ill count all of them up and from the results i will help people based on the results on this thanks very much.
To put the poll into better context I believe that you should also read this thread Although I've quoted the relevant posts below:

Hello, Paul,
Firstly, thanks (again) for your input into the forum. I'm genuinely not intending to create conflict here or trying to play the role of a mod. Now, I know that you've had this sort of comment before, but, I agreed with it then and I'm afraid that I still do.
While at times the PM route can be useful to resolve issues, it shouldn't be the only or primary option. The whole principle of XDA is openness and sharing, so resolving an issue in thread permits that the next user(s) (and there is always another, who suffers from the exact same problem) from hopefully using the Search function and then following the resolution from the thread by themselves.
That way we're working towards creating a valuable resource rather than loosing useful input into hidden PMs.
PM's do have there place for 'user to user' communication, that would otherwise populate the forum unnecessarily but once a thread has been created I believe that it should be used to reolve the original issue.
If a new user needs that much hand holding then one wonders whether they should be risking their £200-£400 device in the first place! before reading up some more....

me helping people over PM is better because its faster and more safer for the person im helping. if im trying to guide him then other people jump in and comment he isnt going to know who to listen to and he will get very confused. this has happend before. by helping over PM or my gmail is better for them, and me. and i ALWAYS ask them after to write a guide as to how i helped them and what they did. i at NO point mean to upset anyone. but you have got to understand that this is the only way that i can help these people as you may well know here on xda people have got there opinions and they like to jump in whenever they want. if i tell him to do somthing some1 might jump in and say no or do this and do that. i have had EVERYONE i have helped say thanks to me and its better this way. i have helped MANY people achieve proper s-off. i will no open a poll. and it will ask the people of xda if they would prefer to be helped via PM or Gtalk or on here. if more people prefer xda then i will start helping via xda

As someone whom Paul has helped through gtalk, It was very beneficial to me as we were able to quickly and easily communicate, as any other method is rather slow and crude. I definitely do agree with your point on xda being a repository for information however, therefore communicating through gtalk or similar could withhold information from other users. However I have now written up a short guide of what I did to solve my problem on the original thread, and I believe that if people do this then everyone wins tbh, and it has the added advantage of the treads being shorter and more concise, therefore it is easier to find the relevant information.
As someone who has done all his stiff by reading through threads and others opinions, I will always advocate all discussions on XDA
Sent from a Desire S waiting for Kernel 3. WAKE UP HTC!!!!
On the 16th the poll will close and whatever the winning method is thats the way i will help people from now on. i do wish ALL people will take something out of the way i help them. as me getting them properly s-off uses alot of things like commands running adb , fastboot and so on. by helping them do these things it then in turn helps them. as if i didnt help them and they needed to to adb or fastboot commands and they never knew howto that could result in a not needed thread being opened **How to use adb or fastboot** this is a good way for me to help these people. i think people should help people the way they do and let other people carry on with the ways they do things. ( no offence meant ben your opinion means alot to me your a good person ) but if it states in the rules ( only help people on xda ) then i will stop if it dont then i will carry on as im not doing anything wrong. and even so if you guys think your losing out on infomation. i will open up a guide covering absolutly EVERYTHING on the desire s from fastboot adb changing roms, splash, radio, hboot and covering everything on what the desire s is capable of doing. what limits it has and other things. this in a sense will be the desire s XDA user guide let me know if u think thats a good isea ben. and as i go along anything i help people out with thats not in the new guide ill just update it ????????????

I do but there are already several threads like this, so one must be careful not to pollute the forum with too many similar guides which would just lead to further confusion.
There is the Complete Tutorial for beginners and others, but I'm guessing yours would be a more technical and slightly more advanced version?

The one thing I would say though, is rather than re-invent not just the wheel but the car, I'd recommend that you source, link and reference as much of the existing documentation where ever possible.

hey guys, Would just like to add to this After searching throughout the forum day and night i got what information i needed to root and s-off my desire s. After following all the instructions letter by letter i was still have errors and problem after problem. paul.robo kindly asked me if i wanted his help and i accepted using Gtalk. I can not begin to express at how helpful he was and was there to guide me through each error. After a good few steps i finally got to where i wanted to be. In no way was i able to find out why i was having these errors if he weren't there to check them as it was happening. To go through this in forum style replys would take days and to much work. Gtalk is a brilliant and direct help for occasions like these and would recommend his help and wisdom to all. Thanks again mate Much appreciated

No problem mate I'm here to help all who need me
Hi...I have officially updated my desire S with official ics update but after that I am facing a few problems
1. Whenever I click on any link sent on whatsapp or any app or sms , the app just crashes down and I have to force close
2.My fonts have become smaller and there's no option to increase them
3.When m listening to music it suddenly stops
4. My mails take a long time to be sent..
Someone pls help me find a solution to this atleast the first one...
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
Can you imagine that the solution has been already posted, and more than once?
Or you need "someone" to find you the solution, because you're too lazy to search yourself?
Here's a good general guideline for forums: whenever you want to post a question with a problem, think if there's a chance that anyone has already encountered that problem and asked the question before. Given that you're talking about one of the largest device-oriented forums, and ICS being out for at least a month already, I think the answer to this is pretty clear.
Instead of wasting time writing all this you could have simply written the solution but I guess you yourself dont know what d solution is...
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
If u know the solution then pls tell me cos I didn't find it anywhere..

He knows the solution, as do I and most of the guys/gals who have been on here for more than two months.
1) Don't pi$$ off the people who know what they are doing as you might need their help one day :banghead:
2) Use the search function as other questions have been asked many times before
If you are in someone's house and you ask them where the toilet is, imagine that they tell you to use your eyes. Would you call them an idiot and say they didn't know, or would you think that maybe it was right in front of you and easy to find?
Well Sir I would just show them d way instead of commenting they are lazy and all..and ya if one wants respect one should first learn to give respect...I don't regret what I said..

I'm not going to get into a slagging match with you - but Jack R1 has my respect as well as that of many people here. He is a very knowledgeable guy and helps when it is needed. However ... you don't need help. You don't need to be given the answers. You need to learn to SEARCH. If you come on here and just get spoon-fed the answers then you won't understand what/why/when - and if something then goes wrong you will have a brick instead of a phone
You have only just joined, but you need to go away and do two things;-
1) Watch the Welcome to XDA video
2) Read the XDA Rules - especially Rule 1
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.

Maybe once you understand what XDA was created for (a website for Developers to get together) you will start to understand why being asked the same pointless questions over and over again starts to annoy people somewhat.

Firstly - I am fairly sure that the Urdu (I think) phrase you used wasn't very polite.
Secondly - all I needed to do was type the word "WhatsApp" into the search box and the second hit is this one. I'm not going to tell you what to do with it - you will be slightly annoyed as you need root (like with most things you need to do to your phone).
If you had bothered to read before wildly upgrading to the new, shiny, unsupported ICS software then you would have been aware of these issues before upgrading - this is the exact reason why noobs keep on getting told to "Search, Read, Learn, Understand" before they do ANYTHING.
