Cut down ROM required for TomTom - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hi guys,
I have just upgraded my phone and no longer have a use for my Touch Pro other than needing it still for TomTom, i.e. no phone, no sms, no email, no bluetooth, no wifi, etc....
As i don't wish to pay for tomtom again for my new phone i would like to continue using it on the touch pro.
It works fine at the moment but I would like to strip as much of the OS from the phone as possible as all i require is the TomTom app. I'm not sure what DLLs are required by TomTom so i'm hoping if they're not included with a default WinMob build then they're with the TomTom package.
Now for my question: Are there any ROMs for this phone available that don't have all the extra apps that we would usually need on a day to day basis installed? If i could switch the phone on and it boot straight into TomTom that would be a bonus. I know it would take a great amount of time to slowly strip everything thats not needed, e.g. bluetooth, wifi, sms, phone, etc.... but basically i just want a small footprint OS so that the rest of the cpu cycles and memory can be used by TomTom.
Cheers in advance

qtek 8300 has no GPS (even hidden) entries

Was trying to enable the GPS aspect of my smartphone, and found it literally was not there - not hidden via registry as is normally the case... NOT THERE.
Is there a reasonable way to patch this? Could I in theory grab a small set of reg keys + small set of files and be off to the races? I'm actually pretty happy with the rom set as a whole, and don't favor the idea of replacing the whole thing for this small function.
For what it's worth, I came to this conclusion after desparately trying to make the GPS BT serial port work in any way--it simply won't, so I'm concluding I do infact NEED the smartphone GPS pieces..
There is a good reason why...
It is because there is NO gps on it! you can use BT to sync to an external gps

"Best" rom to use phone as just GPS device?

I got a new phone and rather then let my 8125 just sit around I'm looking for a good base rom to be able to use the phone with a bluetooth gps device without a lot of other crap on the phone, other then the mapping software (in this case iGuidance v4).
Thanks,
Flak
i used iguidance..but i now prefer miomap..works good with any ROM..no lag
If it were me and it was only to be used as a GPS, I'd load x's 2.26 ROm and stop it before the Extended rom loaded. If you want WM6, I'd use teh Not To Smart Vanilla ROM. Wouldbe cool to put a shortcut for your Nav software in teh startup folder so it loaded right up.

How to use GPS with Googlemaps preinstalled.

Hello everyone,
I have a HTC Touch Pro since october 2008 but are still unable to use the gps with google maps.
Google maps is preinstalled on my device but can never use the gps to locate my position.
Now I heart something about unlocking your gps of you htc touch pro before you can use your gps in google maps.
This is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=490400
I don't know if this is suitable for my HTC Touch Pro too.
I hope somone can help me.
Thanks a lot!
Rick
what rom are you running right now? Assuming you're using a GSM phone, I doubt verizon's method would work for you. Try flashing a new rom.
Rom version: 5.05.404.1 NLD
There is no newer rom version.
I bought my HTC Touch Pro without a carrier, so my HTC Touch Pro is unlocked.
But I can't use my GPS with applications as Google Maps as long as my GPS is locked.
But I don't know if I can use the fix which is discribed in the link I placed.
In GoogleMaps: Menu > Use satellite...
and wait for a fix... (could last up to 4-5mn depending on reception conditions)
But before, check in GoogleMaps options that you have let Windows to handle (integrated) GPS.
Yea it sounds ass backwards, but what he said is true. If your turning it on hitting gps and you get nothing,, thats about right. Wait a bit and see what happens. I use my phone for geocaching almost daily, and am running the stock att rom. My gps works perfectly besides the fact that it takes around 30 secs to lock. However trying to run (most) third party apps WITHOUT googlemaps running first. It will just sit there all day and never get gps. (depends what program were talking about but most will never get lock until google maps is running)
what radio are you on?
Also, I had a terrible time getting a GPS lock with Google Maps on my unbranded Touch Pro.
Recently I downloaded the latest version from www.google.co.up/gmm (think that's right enter it into your Opera browser) and it has improved tremendously. No GPS locks a lot faster - less than 30 seconds, whilst previously it would take minutes or not at all.
Try downloading a newer version and see how that helps.
Thanks!
All of you!
I download a new version of Google Maps and installed it.
After that I set all the properties the same as I had under Start>Settings>System>GPS.
And after about 20 seconds I had a fix and it worked.
(and this was in house)
Now just at the street I get a fix in about 5 seconds and I have a log of zero until one.
So thanks all!

HTC mini problems?

Hi i have just bought the original htc mini. Just after i finished my contacts transfer i started the usual tests
I observed
1) The signal periodically shows from one line up to four lines (the phone is in the same position , no movement at all) Other pice of htc P3450 shows full range signal all the time.
2) I ve been using the destinator 7 and igo8 for gps traveller but unfortunatelly it seems that the igo8 cant even begin running from the sd card, and the destinator 7 starts with a lot of stucks (not able typing a road).
Finally i observed that the internal GPS cant lock a position even if i wait for a long time .It found seven satellites but even then could not lock in a position.
Im very dissapointed and i really dont know if there is something wrong with my phone hardware or software , or it is just an innovation that does not apply to these applications.
Im dissapointed also as these two gps applications i have used them before to older htc device and to chinese clones also and all were perfect.
Any ideas, advice or common experience?

[Q] Android Control System

Heya guys,
I have a project I wish to start with. I have a old HTC TyTn II and HTC Touch Pro II available, but thinking of using the HTC Touch Pro II as its the better phone.
I wish to make use of all the phone's functionality (GPS, BT, SMS, etc) to gather information to do certain tasks with them. I first wanted to pass everything down to a PC, but from what I heard about Android, I can prob use the phone as the computer and do everything from there.
I wish to install the phone into my car and program it as a security system. (Experimental)
Some of the things I am looking for the system to do are:
When the Car Phone detects my Real Phone, it should auto disarm, sending a command via Bluetooth to a relay to Disable Fuel Cutoff.
If the car moves (GPS) and wasn't disarmed, the phone should send out a text, notifying me of potential theft.
A web server could also be great with a corn job that will update a simple txt file with GPS co-ords, as to follow the car. Maybe use it as a remote interface later.
The script should respond to text messages or some network interface (Internet would be cool) so I can control it from a distance...
I believe this gives you an indication of the direction I wish to move in. I haven't played with Android source yet, but I know its Linux. What is the possibility of removing "Android" and keeping the drivers so that I can write my own custom script to just run in the background.
If there are better ways, please let me know. I'm still looking for possible options.
There is a Android version out for the HTC Touch Pro II that seems to work great! If recommended, I would prob try to start from it.
Thanks
Xethron
