Is their a way to disable Auto Sync? - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

Has anyone found a way to disable the auto syncing "Bug" in active sync. Old versions could be set to only sync manually. but Microsoft crippled active sync by disabling this option.
I really hate the fact that if I connect my Smartphone to my PC for charging, copying files or installing software it insists on attempting to sync every 5 minutes.
This usually results in the file copying failing, or at best slowing it down. I only want to sync the phone every day or two, certainly not every five minutes.
The best option I can find is to only create a guest partnership and not sync anything from my windows PC - I also have a MAC and use Missing Sync to sync Contacts, Appointments, Files, Music, Pictures and SMS/call logs - much better than what Microsofts crappy active sync application can do.
Missinc Sync also remembers my custom ringtones on contacts, which I loose if Active sync decides to completely re-sync my phone - this usually happens if I remove my phone whilst it is syncing - because I picked it up to answer a call whilst it was doing another totally unwanted sync

Sync two mobile devices without a PC

Anyone want to write this....?
I'm certain this isn't available yet, but surely it must be possible. I have an MDA Compact II and will be getting an XDA SP tomorrow as my "spare" phone. I know that I can plug one into the PC, sync, disconnect, plug the other in, sync, etc and keep both updated with my contacts and diary, but I'd really like one to be more of a "slave" device.
I'd love (and pay for!) an application that runs on both devices and, using bluetooth, syncs the PIM information on one to the other.....can't be too hard but my programming skills extend to:
10 PRINT "HELLO"
20 GOTO 10
Here's how I see it working:
Application runs in backround on PDA and on Smartphone. You set the sync schedule to every hour, two hours, four hours, once per day, etc. Then when it detects the "partner" device in range it checks to see if it's been sync'd within that timeframe (maybe if it notices it's not been sync'd for more than 24hrs, a reminder might alert me?).
Then a sync is put in place where one phone checks all changes to appointments, contacts, tasks and notes since the last update and send them to the other phone and vica versa. Any conflicts can be set to auto if you mainly use one device or to a manual confirmation.
It's certainly be useful to me - knowing that if I were away from a PC for a couple of days, I could have my spare phone sync'd with the PDA in case there was a problem.

Connect to Active Sync via WI-Fi?

Is there a way of connecting a Mini S to Active Sync Via Wifi on an intenal lan?
Also how do you connect to use files from your Mini S remotely? eg on wifi and out and about using GPRS?
No, you currently can't use WiFi to use ActiveSync because it was not encrypted, and posed a risk to corporate customers, and individuals that could be exposing all data, contacts, calendar events that were synchronised etc.
It's something they will add again in the future, no precise word yet though.
As for access files, what do you mean, your own files at home?
I find the easiest way to access files on the move is to use Gmail, and store files I want to readily access as draft copies, then I can access it from home, work, or my PDA, and it means I don't have to leave a system running with shares open, or hosting it on a website that may not be secure etc.
Another thing you could consider would be to use a service like http://live.mail2web.com and get pushmail running on your device, that way, anything you sent to your mail2web email address would turn up almost instantly on your device, calendar events etc too, and you could edit your contacts and calendar online. It would be seen as an Exchange server connection on your ActiveSync on your PC, and the two would synchronise quite happily when you plugged in.
I use this solution with the same account on my two devices, and because any changes on the device are synched online as and when you do it, they are never out of sync, so my PC doesn't end up with any conflicts.

Activesync - why no manual sync?

When I changed my WM-2003 smartphone for a new HTC S710 I had to upgrade Activesync to version 4.5.
This has a most undesireeable feature of syncing every 5 minutes when connected to my PC - does any one think this is a wanted feature? Can we petition Microsofte to remove it?
Searching the net I found a couple of sugestions for stopping this happening. One was to change a registry setting on the PC to disable sync on connect - Trid this but it had no effect. The other was to create a 'dummy' server on the phone and change the schedule settings to manual and then delete the 'dummy' server (the schedule option is greyed out normally) - this had no effect either.
My phone still insists on syncing every 5 minutes.
I would like it to sync on first connection, but if I am copying a lot of files to the phone (Music/Videos from itunes for which I have a script to update them automatically when I connect my phone so I have something new to watch/listem to every day) then the 5 minute auto sync interferes with this - slows down the file transfer and in some cases Active sync disconnects the phone and I have to re-start the transfer.
I could just remove the SD card - but its a lot easier to dock the phone walk away and come back later with everything update at least it would be if active sync did not try and update my contacts/emails every 5 minutes.
Another problem is that if I accidently un-dock the phone whilst it is doing one of these unwanted sync's then it usually corrupts my contacts/mail on the phone and I have to do a total re-sync - sometimes requiring a delete of the partnership to get it to work again.
Manual sync in 4.5?
Has anyone solved the problem with the missing "Manual Sync" in ActiveSync 4.5?
Previous versions of ActiveSync had a "Manual Sync" option, in that you had to click "sync" to sync your mobile device (I have an HTC 8525 and Windows XP pro PC, USB cable to PC) .
I tried adding a "fake" Exchange server, but it still automatically syncs the 8525 about every 5 minutes, and immediately when I connect. The "Schedule" menu option is now enabled, and it shows "Manual" in both the PC's activesync and on the 8525.
But-- it still syncs upon connection, and about every 5 minutes as long as it's connected.
Anyone find an actual solution to this one?
Solution
There is a solution by editing the registry:
Something about ActiveSync’s 5-minute sync feature -- http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=592
Short:
* How: Fake Reg Key so that ActiveSync thinks Device is not cradled
* With: http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/
* Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Hardware\Cradled
My batchfile:
CeRegCMD.exe -w -kn "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Hardware" -vn "Cradled" -vd 0
it works, device stays connected (transfer, deploy, etc..) but AS is fooled
have phun..

[Q] Error syncing contacts from Live

I'll be as brief as possible. If you need clarification, just ask. I don't expect to solve this problem quickly, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I cannot sync contacts with my main Live account (which is set up with Windows Live Domains). Whenever I leave the Contacts option checked, the phone displays "Attention required" after a few minutes of syncing, and then "Error 0x86000106". It also briefly displays "Contacts: 1/0".
Emails and appointments sync flawlessly on that account, and contacts syncing works flawlessly with *any other* accounts I have, even with another Live account with a custom domain.
Here's what I tried so far, without success:
- Posted this problem to the Microsoft Answers forum (no help)
- Hard resetted the phone
- Changed phone's time zone
- Changed phone's region and language
- Enabled logging (where's that log stored?)
- Removed and readded all my contacts (I have about 120 contacts)
- Tried syncing with just one or two contacts
- Tried syncing via both WiFi and OTA
- Tried changing some personal info on the account profile
I've actually found that error code on Microsoft's website, but they say it's related to Outlook/Exchange and Activesync (it's trying to sync a corrupted item, and removing the offender causes the sync to continue). However, I cannot imagine how that corruption could be possible as I am not using Outlook.
Any ideas? Is it possible to "clear" the account in any way?
Bump... Anything? Anyone? I had resetted the phone a few more times, still no luck.
Try this
Uncheck sync contacts, then sync the whole thing. Then check sync contacts and see if it works
wpxbox, thanks for the reply. I can't uncheck to sync contacts now because this is my primary ID (I can only uncheck email). However, I did some tests a while ago and used this ID as a secondary account - unchecking Contacts would yield a successful sync, but the error would come back if I check Contacts again.
Just as you said above, its probably trying to sync a corrupted contact, and removing the corrupted contact should let it sync successfully. It doesn't matter if you are using Outlook or not, the server itself is a Microsoft Exchange server, and very rarely, something like this happens.
More than likely, you'll have to find the offending contact and try to sync again.
I would export all my contacts, delete them from my Live account (clear it out completely), then separate the exported contacts into groups of 10 or 20 contacts each, and then import each group, and sync after each import. This will allow you to make sure your contacts all sync successfully, and if there is a corrupted one, you can narrow it down to the last group you imported of 10 or 20 contacts. Makes it easy to track down the culprit.
That would be a god way. Good idea
prjkthack, thanks for the reply but I already did that. Phone won't sync even with an empty contact list. Still could be a corrupt contact, but where would it be? I used Outlook to access the contacts list and see if something comes up but no luck either (btw, Outlook syncs flawlessly).
And before someone say it, I already contacted Microsoft about it but they just keep sending me back and forth between the Microsoft Answers team, the Windows Live Mobile team and the Windows Live forum without giving me any solutions at all.
Nothing? Oh well, I'm doomed....

Prevent Initial Sync when adding Google Account

So back in October, my wife and I both purchased the Note 5. We started using Google Photos, and I found a way to add both of our google accounts to each others phones so we could share our photos instantly. I had a problem adding her account to my phone, as it would sync everything (contacts, calendar, health data, etc.) immediately, but this did not happen when adding my account to her phone. I messed around with it for some time, and found an option that was not the same on both of our phones. (I think it was the backup account, but can't remember for sure). Whenever I disabled the option, whatever it is, on my phone, it allowed me to add her account without initially syncing. Keep in mind, my method for doing this on both phone was as follows every time I tried it.
1. Turn off Global Auto Sync
2. Add alternate account
3. Turn Off Mobile Data and WiFi so the phone was not online
4. Turn Auto Sync back on
5. Settings>Accounts>Google>(other account) and turn off Auto Sync on everything except Photos (Gmail in the case below)
6. Turn On Mobile Data and WiFi
Kerblam! Success.
However, I am trying to accomplish the same thing with another google account I have an alternate use for, but only want the gmail to sync. But no matter what I try, every time I add the account, it initially syncs everything. (I know this because next to every category, it says "Last Synced on MM/DD/YYY hh:mm) And obviously, all of my other account contacts, calendar data, etc. appear. I don't want to take the chance of just manually deleting everything after turning off the sync for each item in case the sync gets turned back on after some update or somethings, and it syncs the account with the phone and I lose everything. Has anyone had success doing this? I've been scouring the web for quite some time now with no luck. Neither Google or Samsung were of any help. Thanks in advance for any help : )
