Dude his question was asked and answered a month ago in another forum.
In the last hour, I have watched your post count go from 49 to 76, why are you spamming the Q and A board by digging up month old threads that have already been answered, and making inane posts, like " can you describe the problem " and making 6 and 7 posts in a row in the same thread.
Are genuinely trying to be helpful, or as I suspect, trying to make " senior member " in one night.
When you hit 100, can you stop please, I am getting dizzy

Agreed, spamming the board is against the rules. THread closed.

Forum Members, How aggressive should Moderators be?

I've moved this discussion from the Kaiser_Diamond_Version_1 Thread to open it up for more discussion.
I took a very aggressive Mod Stance in the thread as within minutes of it's creation we were already on page four of posts like:
"Woot I'm first", "Where is the link", "OMG IDK WTF", and such.
Within the first 30 minutes (all before the link was posted) I had removed about 20 pages of worthless posts.
So, users of XDA-Devs give me your feedback on this...
Excuse me? Trying to make the forum more readable of all of you members, remember even with our recent pay increase ($0 added to our already excessive salary of $0) we are still underpaid and overworked allowed the privlige of getting the heel of the boot from members who don't agree with our decisions.
Do you think nobody will complain when the first usable post is somewhere around page 112?
(but of course this post will be deleted within a few minutes also so enjoy and reply while you can)

Ask questions & take interest sure but 100 pages of "Woot" & "I got first post" or "Man where the %&^#$ is the DL Link" will only serve to flush this thread before the Rom is even released.

he is doing his job and trying to keep thread clean to discuss issues.
leo, if u have time, can u plz post benchmarks so we can compare how rom stacks against others?
Jealous, no... Everybody plays, everybody wins.
You completely missed the point of what I'm doing here. Think about what you just said, you've made now 4 posts about something that hasn't been released yet and not one of them was relevant to the topic at hand.
So we end-up with 500 posts in the thread that you have to wade through to get to the 58 which really have something to say about the Rom (once it's released) and everyone wonders why so many members simply start new threads or ask a question that has already been answered 12 times in the thread.
My threads are clean(er) because I aggressivly moderate them. I'm simply expanding that policy into this thread because I know it's gonna be huge even if it is cut down to only the essential posts.
NOTE: even this discussion about my over-aggressive moderation will be removed from the thread (although I just might make it a new thread to allow for discussion of it).

I think deleting genuine posts has meant the post has turned into that not the fab new diamond based rom we are about to receive.
As this is the first diamond rom there will many pertinant questions not currently answered in the first post and the opportunity at least to ask should be there, even if this will need some tidying up later...IMO
Ah, but your question was quoted in the answer so instead of leaving 2 posts I left the one that contained all of the content

My point is rather than moderating minute by minute allow there to be some questions and answers and then tidy it up. OK most posts dont add value (like this one which you can kindly delete) but does it matter? It doesn't matter deleting them I guess but it just feels a bit crappy to find out your geniune posts have been deleted 5 minutes after posting.
I've never had a Rom chef get upset about this kind of trimming and in fact Leo has thanked me for the house cleaning.
Trimming excess content from a thread is Moderator Discretion and I don't often use that as a reason to remove posts. As I said this is gong to be a bear of a thread just becuase it's the first Diamond Port so I'm just doing some preventive maintenance and trying to set the tone early on.
I will be moving all posts regarding my moeration from this thread into another thread in one of the General Forums (later this evening) so we can talk this out if anyone likes.
Everyone's input is appreciated and taken into consideration but I have seen many excellent Rom Chefs walk out of the kitchen because of too many useless posts like "Woot I got first" or "can't wait for the link" etc.

So, while I appreciate everything you have done for us Kypher, and with all due respect, I think you are overstepping your bounds. If you strongly disagree I would talk it over with the site admins and update forum rules accordingly. If there is a forum rule that already prohibits this (other than an all inclusive "moderator discretion" then please point me to it).

great point Kyphur i dont post as many of other user but many people post useless junk like the one you told, let it be people and mantain these forum clean of junk
sorry to post another (useless) post with regards to the title, but i had to speak up my opinion about this.
i really really appreciate the job kyphur and all the other moderators are doing in terms of deleting, cleaning, etc. to be honest, if we hadnt been this used to talk a lot and not say anything, this "job" would not exist. when a noob goes asking questions without searching, everybody starts flaming, but it is just because these insane 100-page threads that they are not reading.
and btw, im active on other forums as well, on different matters, and trust me, this is a more than free and common-sense forum in my opinion. i simply love it.
so lets stop posting useless posts and go to the subject thinking about the others as well, people who want to find out real things about this ROM, for example, and not other BS. for example, i was just trying to find out whether this is more than a diamond-ringtone ROM or not. i managed to find this out after 5-6 pages of threads.
to be honest, even the "im downloading now, thanks a million" posts i find useless. there should be a place with all the master cooks names where they could get thanks and donation and that should not count against the user post count. im wondering how many of those "thanks, ure a GOD", etc. kind of guys would still thank.
just my 2 cents on the matter...

ionutule you are so right. There are many ways the topic can be organized. Seperate bug topics for example, or some Thank you tools (a post after the 1st one where all thanks stay together (i dont know if there is such a hack for this forum).

help, not likely

I posted a question that received several threads telling me to read before posting and such. I would like you to know that since getting my phone Friday I have spent more than 18 hours on 8 different forums, reading and reading and trying different suggestions and when I posted here I just wanted something that would work or at least answer my question. NOT going to happen.
Quit your sniveling. You were told the proper way to conduct yourself in almost ANY internet forum, and that's to always do a search before posting. Someone posted a link to an existing thread, which means a search should have turned it up for you. Did you bother to look at that thread? Have you done any searches? Like I said, the problem with 3e recovery is well documented. I also told you to Odin back to stock and start over. Did you look into that? Drop the entitlement attitude and help yourself. Oh, and expect this thread to get locked, too.
there are helpful people on here, but with a huge number of posts people may have passed it over. if you acctually want help on whatever you were looking for would you post a link to your other thread so someone can answer that thread.
id be glad to link you to a specific answer. i know the forums are confusing, you really dont want to use the search at the top of the screen. find the appropriate section and search that forum or thread with "search this thread" or "search this forrum" next to where it says "forum tools" or "thread tools"

Programmer Developer with years of expierence treated like a kid

I like many others experienced developers do not appreciate going thru the reg process and then being told I cannot post except in the kiddy forums. (Q$A or General). I have read xda forums for the better part of 4 months and don’t feel like being baby sat!
Here is my 1st post only 9 more I have no general questions as I got past that YEARS AGO. I will play nice I will play nice ...
I was going to post some VALID comments and was blocked.
Sorry for rant but... I wont go on.
updated to AT$T 2.2 and now on quest to root
I have to get this bloatware off this phone one way or another. I cant stand paying for a phone and then being unable to get the junkware off.
Has anyone had success with rooting the stock ATT 2.2 rom. The update.zip files dont seem to work anymore.
I am just posting this here so I can get my post count up so I can participate in the dev forums.
Later.
Mark
It only takes 8 posts for the admins to approve your account for full membership, and getting to post in development.
8 posts. wait an hour or less. done!
8 posts isnt hard and isnt treating anyone like a child.
thank u for the info, TRusselo ...
I agree, the post minimum should only apply when starting a thread in dev, not fair to apply it to replys. If you need to reply in a thread then more power to you. If your wish is to start a thread in dev to ask a question then I will inform you now to post it in q&a as it will be moved there
Well why not just be in the Q&A forum and help people out by answering their questions? You help people and you get your post count up.
No offense to the OP, but that's probably one of the dumbest posts I've seen here. It doesn't matter if you're a programmer/developer/what-have-you, just because you spend 4 months lurking and don't contribute a single post doesn't give you any kind of authoritative measure as to how the posting should be govern regardless of your literacy on the matter of programming/hacking.
The more educated tend to be the most antidisestablishmentarists there are.... The Rule for 10 posts really is more dealing with the noobs that have no idea the difference between a smartphone and a smart-ass... Ergo the rule, just post 10 times and move on.
Love Android ......... can't wait until the next flash !!!!!
Well,I for one don't like the whole 10 posts idea. Why?There are people who can contribute from their first moment here, without having a single post, and there are others who have hundreds or even thousands of posts, but cannot help anybody, not even themselves.Number of posts doesn't make you a noob, nor does it un-noob you if you have it in you.

No lurking at all. I spent four months researching and doing things in android w/o posting a bunch of stupid questions for things that have been already answered. I am sorry if your feelings were hurt.
All that rule accomplished was that I didn’t post an observation that I saw while trying to root the stock 2.2 ATT ROM. But since I couldn’t post I guess I will just let others figure it out on their own.
It is not so much my literacy on programming / hacking it is the assumption that I am a spammer and or a stupid kid that won’t use search to find answers to questions that have already been asked.
The one post per every 5 minutes works for most spammers.
IN ADDITION if you didn’t get the obvious smiley connotations that it WAS MOSTLY SARCASM and a way to get startedd posting in the kid section. The end of the world didn’t come because I couldn’t post on an Android forum LOL I don’t have to say more, SARCASM!! Get it???
Well, removed the posts which are not meant for this section ( maybe off topic section ! )
And yes, if you have achieved all that you claim to have - as in the developer etc etc you could be kind enough and go over to the question answer 10 simple questions and bingo ! Post in the dev section, that would be appreciated way more than a rant.
But, your call.

Strange board rules?!

Why is it that I have to wait ten postings long to ask a question concerning a problem with a ROM I'm using? You want me really to do some generic blabla to wait till I'm "qualified enough" to post on a thread in the developement section? Oh and in the meantime I'll go to a public phone instead of using my mobile that is not working due to a problem from one of the ROM's on here. That is not very user friendly to say the least.
And eight more postings to go........

Dear Zelendel,
this has nothing to do with missing research. I've been using ROM's from the xda-community for some time now and never had any unsolvable problems so far. Therefore I had no reason to post. Right now i'm encountering a strange behaviour with the newest update of the ROM I'm using. And since there is no solution described in the thread of this ROM so far, I wanted to contribute something to make the developer aware of this problem and to better the ROM. Where else would user comments be more needed than in the developement section? What would be development without user feedback? Nothing, I'd say. And if you don't think so, you can delete half of the comments there since they're often not saying more than "oh, wifi support is missing, why is that", "can you integrate that feature from...", etc. And someone with 20 postings can write as much **** there as someone with five postings, and they often do. So the number of postings is not necessarily a quality indicator. It's just delaying feedback and in my case the recovery of my phone.
This not ment to insult anyone on this board, it's great to have it, it's a source of great software and information. It's just sometimes you can't relate to specific board rules and it's frustrating because it's hindering you getting problems solved.
Happy holidays...
Did you try sending a PM to the Dev? Or maybe one of the regular rom users? This is normally alot faster way to get a reply. Most issues have been come across at least once before.

Its to cut down on the n00b crap that pollutes the dev forum. As already stated this is a dev forum not a support forum.
99.9% of things you could ask or post have already been posted so look and read before attempting to post.
Post your issue here and the rom you have issue with and Ill try and help, although its extremely likely all I will do is use search or read forum and get answer for you, which is what you should be doing really.
And before you said "I've already looked" etc, You obviously don't do it properly as this very topic you have created has already been created and discussed AT LENGTH!!

You may have been using ROM's for a long time, but obviously not XDA. The 10 post rule is to prevent spam from getting into the truly Development Forums. The moderators can deal with the spam in the general, but it has no place in the thread for a ROM. If you go through the pages of the general forum, you can find numerous spam posts. I'm not talking about a pointless post, I mean true spam...advertisements and such. These are posted by people with 1 or 2 posts. So instead of complaining, go to the off-topic section, knock out 10 posts in 30 seconds and you are good to go. It is protection FOR you, not AGAINST you.
I have been registered here for more then 2 years, I read and read and have questions from time to time. but either say screw the answer (if I cant find it) or look elsewhere.
I understand WHY the rule is a min. post count. But apparently there was something wrong with the site two years ago and the "Action Required to Activate Membership for xda-developers" email had problems. Without activating account you cant even see your profile OR post in the designated areas.... annoying to say the least since you dont even know that you didnt get an email you were suppose to.
So after resending the activation link just now on a hunch (and getting another error /shakes head) I am able to post and see my profile in full I believe, since the email came through despite the error on the board. Not to mention why I have 27 posts yet had to activate the account again!
Maybe the post count rule isnt the solution to the spam problem as it hinders the very development its meant to protect. Maybe with such a vast team to oversee things that harsher penalties for such spam posting could be implemented and the current post count rule be abandoned. But what do I know it seems the site fouled up in a unique way for my account....

I did send a private message to the developer and I have to see what comes out of this. But in my opinion it is a lot more molesting to write a p.m. than to post in a thread. Also I thought it might help others with the same problem to have it discussed in public.

I tried exactly this, trying to post ten comments in some trash forum or a very very old thread and guess what! You have to wait five minutes between postings as a "newbie" and even better the post was deleted just a few minutes later, resetting my post count to zero again. Seems like moderators take their job very seriously at 3 a.m. cet So no chance this way.

It seems you have more insight in the spam topic than I do. And it's good people look after spam. But sometimes these rules are just getting in the way of solving things.
As I pointed out before developers are nothing without the community and the feedback of the users. I guess most devs are not programming ROM after ROM just for the sake of it or giving it to their ten close friends, but to spread their good work to the community for everyone to benefit from it. And how many of the registered users on here are really devs? Is it more than 5 to 10%?
Posting my ROM-specific issue in the general section? How fast will moderators remind me that this is the wrong place and the posting will be removed or moved to the appropriate section. So maybe I will do this and get my post to the thread it belongs to without having ten postings after all
And yes I searched the thread all the way after the release of the recent ROM version to see if someone had the same problem. There were some hints people had, but no soultion was offered. So to boost problem solution and for the sake of solidarity with my fellow users I wanted to post there.
But maybe I will just save my time and instead of posting here any longer and just rebuild the phone from step one with a new ROM. Seems faster than to get help here.

Many moon's ago before implementation of post rules there wasn't just a small amount of spam and most of our time was dishing out bans and removing threads so the implementation is to help users and XDA it may be a gripe to new users but it saves work load in the long run.
Besides 10 posts without being SPAM is easily achievable.

No need to create tipple posts, You have a "multi-quote" button or an "edit" button.
The 10 post rule has absolutely nothing to do with advertising spam, Its simply to do with not allowing new users to post questions etc since any questions they have will have already been asked and people was getting sick of seeing the same ****. The limit is there to force users to sit back and have a good read instead of jumping in and posting as soon as they reach hurdle.
Also do not listen to the person who told you to post knock out 10 posts in 30 seconds as they will just get pruned by mods after users report you.

HAHAHA, so post 10 posts and you are not a noob. Get real buddy. And if you re read my post you will see that I said to do it in THE OFF TOPIC SECTION! I highly doubt he will get reported to a mod for posting in the "3 Word Story" thread. Grow up.

Firstly, When did I say or infer that posting 10 posts and you're not a n00b??
I said that the 10 post rule is to stop n00bs joining up and immediately jumping in and posting without first searching. Also yes he will get reported and posts pruned, even in off-topic section if they are his first posts and simply spamming to bypass 10 post rule.
Secondly, "grow up"?? wtf are you talking about? Have you been smoking crack with your family today for Xmas? If you are going to reply or contradict me at least try and make sense.

You are very lost and confused...

Seriously, come on..
I fully understand this rule and I have "only" been a member since feb 2011..
Since I own a huge forum of my own I might have some info to bring forward to you.
If you allow newbies to post everywhere, where do you think the forum will be placed?
a) In the top of active forum list?
b) In the spammers heaven list?
And a follow up to that, where do you think a forum owner would like to end up?
All right kids knock it off. The 10 post rule is there for a reason and it is not hard to make 10 good posts.
As for the question of what would be posted if users couldn't post? Well check my sign for that answer. Before android hit the masses, the posts in Dev based threads were Dev related posts offering fixes. If something is broken in a rom your using then dig in and try to fix it. That is what XDA is here for. To help others learn. Rom makers do it for the fun of it and decide to share. Some also include small bugs to see who will try to help fix it by providing good info and possible fixes and who will post "huh this is broke please fix"
Meanwhile back at the ranch...
Ok, to end this thread, I restored the phone yesterday using the good old diy-trial-and-error method. Works like a charm again with the old ROM. I have to see where I go from here ROM-wise. I will probably change the ROM and move to a more user-focused community. Meanwhile the dev got back to my p.m. explaining what could have caused the problem, which is very kind of him. So thanks to ladyboo for helping out.

But I understand the need for 10 posts...It's really not that hard. and in the case of an emergency...PM the dev.. I did

Ranting (Mods Please delete)

unnecessary rant
I, as a new member, but long-time lurker of xda, think that it's a great idea. Think of all the spam and useless threads that have been prevented. In fact, xda gets 20 points in my book for implementing such a system.
Oh please, stop complaining.
You and so many others act like it's a sin to actually be part of the community for an easy 10 posts before you can ask a question in a development thread which has probably already been answered 5 times.

well i have 10 posts and have had many problems with their system
and yes it prevents spam but thats also y we have Captchas
and it finally went thru after i released this post here
and now i can post on threads
so idk maybe a bug in their system but i have been having this problem for months
when i tried to answer a ? someone had i got confronted with the 10 post bulletin
or when i had a ? that no one had asked same as before
and if i had a bug that hadnt been mentioned yet u guessed it 10 post bulletin even though i have 10 posts
thus the reason i became infuriated with XDA
i get no help and others dont get help kinda pointless to have a system to help ppl when it hinders at the same time
and yes i may not have many post on here but is due too the 10 post bulletin
i had to use other sites to get help
i guess the new mods at XDA just dont care for their users as much as they used too
The better solution would have been to contact a moderator or whoever to see what was up and what could have been done for you to post since you already had ten posts, instead of bashing xda over something thats actually helping the community.

actually we just had a discussion about this the captchas would stop spam right away that was what they were implemented for and make it a minimum of 2 posts
Mods dont respond for days and i have already asked them about this and i havent gotten a reply on it yet and it has been over 2 months since i asked about it
this was just the last straw i had hoped that they had fixed it but no luck and then after i had posted this for some odd reason it worked
i guess the saying "if its broke, beat the hell out of it till it works" worked
