I notice that sometimes, if I open my keyboard before powering up my phone, the keyboard won't work. Also, it sometimes does that even after I've closed the phone and turned it on without the keyboard pulled out, and then pull it out. It's annoying to have to press the power button 2 or 3 times just to get my keyboard to work to answer a text.

Hello
How does ont turn off the XDA EXEC, i dont see any off button. the power button just turns the screen backlight on and off.
the reason why i wanted to know what it was is because i am porting my number across networks, and 02 told me to turn off my phone a number of times during the day, so that it could go into a boot up process.
There is no real way to trurn the device off, but what they will be wanting you to do is disable the phone section (do this by turning on flight mode, or by clicking on the green connections manager in the bottom and click on the phone button. Click the phone button again to turn it on.)
Start -> Programs - Wireless Manager -> All Off (This switches of the phone.
Then use the phone on/off button at the top of the screen there, to switch it back on and force your SIM to re-register with the network, which should have the desired effect your after.
Taking out the battery is the only real 'off' button.
thanks for the replies dudes
did you try holding the power button as well? that works on my wizard
not sure if it's true for all wm5 though
i held the power down button for some time and it blanked teh screen. when i held the power button again for a few seconds the screen came back to life, but this time there is no "back light(?)"
how do i get back the "back light(?)"

There remains a bug, it seems, that sometimes prevents the backlight from firing up when starting the device.
It used to happen on my XDA2i and still happens on my Exec.
I usually have to get it in a good light and go to settings and move the brightness slider to get it working.
Turning off the device, I find, is actually achieved by pressing the power switch before closing lid.
I find I get much more out of each charge if I do this rather than just close the lid.
That of course turns of the PDA functionality of the device. The radio (phone) service is still disabled via Flight Mode.
somehow i double posted...sry
thanks for the reply
i guess by pressing the power button, the pda goes ito some sort of sleep mode, since it does not boot up later, correct?
when it is charging up using a usb cable connected to my pc, the backlight is turned of, and no amount of pressing buttons seems to turn on the backlight, is that correct?
i checked out the brightness level sliders, there are 2, the
1. on battery which is somewhere in between
2. on power which is "slided" to the left, is that its correct position?
you will probably find it will selfboot at midnight.. this appears to have been intentional in the design of all the XDA's.
Thia can be a nuisance but it is probably to do with reseting timers. alarms etc
The backlight is configured to be on/off during external power and on battery in which ever setup you choose.
The actual levels you set it at are your choice ..
I set mine to be off after 5 mins on external power i.e. when charging except when i use tomtom and want it to stay on whilst externally powered.
On these occasions I change the setting before the journey
Your original question with reference to O2 making changes that required you phone to be off, in my experience, means not having the O2 sim in the device.
thanks for the reply dude
i think my questions have exceeded the remit of this thread. i will start another thread for the backlight questions
So I've had my fuze a little over a year now, no major issues. Used mostly energyroms, but about December time I switched back to a simple non-bloated stock rom for the stability.
Anyway today at work I was texting, and I press the power button to put the phone in standby. And the screen remains on and usable. I tried again and it would not go into standby (power button physically feels normal, it does not feel loose or abnormal.) So i let it sit for a few minutes, then i look at it and a message poped up asking if i wanted to turn the phone off (like as if i was holding the power button)so i press no, then it comes up again a few seconds later and aagain and again. So I soft reset the phone.
The phone resets but takes a LOT longer at the att/htc splashscreen, then it hangs at the htc screen and does not make it to the wimo screen, but instead an error screen saying:
"The device is unable to boot because you have either turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an applicationa from an untrusted source, press SEND to reset your device or press any other button to cancel..."
I think it went through the hard reset this time because when it restarted it asked to calibrate the screen and install stuff. it resets again sometime after that, still takes forever at the splash screen and comes back up to the error, only this time no matter what button i press it wont go away and boot into wimo. It seems like none of my buttons work (they wont light up now) when i slide out the keyboard, it is not lit up like normally.
And heres the kicker, my only way to turn on/off the phone is to take out/put in the battery. As soon as I pop the battery back in the fuze turns on. Is my phone toast? Ive tried to hard reset and the phone does not reach the bootloader, it goes straight to the splash screen. Same with trying to reflash it from my comp, raphealwrapper cannot find my phone.
I've only recently encountered the exact same problem on my Touch Pro, but stock ROM and everything. As far as I can tell, our power buttons are busted and probably need to be serviced. One of the contacts must be stuck in the 'on' position somewhere inside :\ As a temporary fix, I've been using AEButton Plus and remapped double tap end call key to turn the screen off, and removing the stylus to turn it on.
My replacement HTC 7 Pro seems to have very poor battery life - dead by early evening even when hardly used. Then I noticed that the keyboard backlight doesn't turn off, even when I press the power button to force it into standby! It does go off if I do a full power down.
I can even see, by peering though the small gap in a dark room, that the keys are still lit up even when the phone is closed!
Before I send it in for yet another repair, can someone confirm this isn't supposed to happen?
Looks like you will need to send it back for repair. My 7 pro only lights the keyboard up when slid open or a key is pressed. It only stays on for about 10 seconds after the last key is pressed.
When I turn on my phone sometimes non of the physical buttons will work, including the power button, so when the screen turns off I have no way to turn it back on. All I can do is pull the battery and wait to see if the next time it starts up it'll work. Using the slide will sometimes turn off the screen but the phone will still act as if the screen is on, so I have to turn it off and back on. And, still, sometimes opening the slide will disable all the physical buttons and I have to pull the battery and hope it will work. And sometimes I don't have to open the slide at all and the buttons will still stop working after a day or a few hours.
I know there has to be a physical problem, but why would the power button work every time when it's already off, but (today) 1 of 6 times after the phone booted up?
Thanks in advance.

Check your water damage indicator. I've had similar experiences with other phones, specifically one that went for a swim in the toilet. Water damage could explain it.
My other thought was the connector used for the keyboard, but i don't think that would affect the power button or the buttons below the screen.
If you dig through some of the posts, i believe you will find a guide on tearing this phone down. It may give you a good idea of how the device is put together and where to potentially look for failure.
*ninja edit*

The front buttons (home, menu, back, search and trackpad) are on one ribon cable
The power, volume buttons are on a different ribbon cable
and last the camera button is on it's own cable.
I suspect you have a rom problem if you are lossing all button functionality at once. Have you tried the keyboard home, menu, back, search buttons when it locks up?
I would do a factory reset if you are on the stock rom or reflash the rom you are using.
And if changing firmware/software dosent help know all buttons come down to the main flex

I was able to buy a used phone and from its and this phone's parts made a working phone. There was a problem with the flex cable that was causing the buttons to stop working when I slid the phone open.

Since the update last week, whenever I plug in my phone it puts me in dock mode. I hate this and disabling in apps does not fix. It turns on WiFi, and takes me to random dock screen continuously even when I just manually exited. In the notification bar it says press to return to dock mode even though it is already in dock mode. Please help!!
