4 Simple Questions - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

I was a SonyE User, Then Moved to Symbian on N0kia N95, Then WM on Vario, Then WM6.5 TF3D on Diamond. Now I Have a Magic coming in the mail tomorrow. As you can see I like different phones and OS's.
1. Is the Hero ROM really worth putting on?
2. Is the Interface on this phone and features alot better than the diamond i already own?
3. Does this have AGPS or a receiver?
4. Do I have to be experienced in this OS to enjoy it?
Thanks for you help, its just that i have 30 days or 30mins to return.

I am very similar to you. I have used WM, OSX, Symbian, and Andriod (on G1 for a bit). Have decided to go back to Android because of the Hero ROM. It looks very promising. I'm also new to andriod but from the looks of it, it doesn't look too hard. I'm going to be getting the google ion really soon and looking forward to putting the Hero ROM on it.

The ole upgrade...

I current have a old Sony Erickson...gay...and a Cingular 3125...love it...when it stays on
Im getting my upgrade....like im elgible now...
I want a smart phone...here is my list
ATT 8525 129.99 Refurb
BB Curve 99.99 Refurb
Palm Centrino 99.99
Palm 750 199.99
Palm 680 149.99
I am only 16....text addict...so i want good texting...My friend has a palm 680(that was supposed to be mine) and i love the threaded text/chat freature that it has. So i found an app for wm5/6 that can do the same. I want to mod my device..so that gives a lean to wm. I like wm b/c of the similarity to my computer. BB seem to be very stable compared to the wm devices. and i hear palm has an outdated os...but thats pretty irrelevant to my life...lol. But the 8525 has wifi...and i would love to have that...but which route would yall go?
anybody...i need some opinions...
Those are pretty much the same phones I looked at when deciding what to buy.
My thoughts were, Blackberry - add on software to expensive and little of it.
Palm OS, Not multitasking
Treo with Windows Mobile, ok, but I have large hands and keyboard kinda small.
HTC 8525, my choice. Best of all worlds. Not perfect, but close for me.
My son just got a blackberry perl, and he loves it. Does lots of texting, but keeps asking me where he can get the games and stuff I have on my 8525. Most aren't even available.
I text quite a bit too, but not like my son, and most of the time I don't open the keyboard to do it. I use a program called Calligrapher, and just write on the screen and have it converted to text. Works great.
Final choice is up to you. Go to a few of the stores in the area, and see how each device feels in your hands. That will help you make the best decision.
Good Luck.
Thanks...and can somebody explain to me how to mod this device...because i just want to put a couple of apps on it..maybe a few games and such...nothing major...i wanted to do some iphone similar interfacing mods...but i probably wont.
so can somebody explain how to upgrade to wm6...and what all this ROM stuff means to me and the performance and customizability of the device?
anyone else
Installing apps and games is very easy. You have 2 basic methods, you can download a cab file directly to the phone and install from there or download a windows installer and install to your phone from the PC through the activesync connection. Most of the applications or interface customizations you talked about would be done in one of these two manors.
Upgrading your device from WM5 to 6 will require to to flash a new rom on the phone. You have many options to choose from when picking a new rom. You can use the generic version from HTC, or go with one of the many custom cooked roms on this site. You just have to read each of the threads for each of the roms to see the pros and cons of each. Just like the phones, there is no perfect choice and you are the only one who can decide which rom is right for you.
These phones can be as easy or as complicated as you want them to be. If this is all new to you, try starting off with the Generic HTC rom, or the official WM6 rom from your carrier, if one exists.
To get started, read the wiki for the hermes and start reading the posts in the hermes forums, and as always, ask questions, but try searching first.
Hope this helps!
anymore opinions as i am very close to my purchase...

Are you waiting for Android

I was just wondering how happy everyone is with Windows mobile, if you are waiting for android, or waiting on another operating system to swtich phones or what not... Just wondering what everyones up to.
i just recently got my at&t HTC Fuze about a week ago and im in love with it!!! love google maps and youtube!
I love windows mobile! never going to leave it!
I've had My Touch Diamond 2 for just over a week. WM phones are the best phones I've had. I still like Motorola and Nokia but HTC with WM is on the top of my list. Samsung is bleh.
What I'm waiting for is Android on my TD2.
No android for me. I'm digging WM on my PPC's!!
Android is too young and inmature OS, perhaps with a couple of years can become a good option, but by now I´ll stick to WM because you can have a lot of fun with it!
ppl will need quite some time to switch to another new OS
Android and Symbian are too close to Windows Mobile for me. If I switch, it'll be to the iPhone OS.
I love WM! But the Omnia HD has too many good specs, not necessarily a good OS, so I'm switching to it.
I voted WM though.
I voted for Android. I had it working for a brief week on my AT&T Tilt and it was amazing (even though it's kinda buggy and not fully supported). I would love to see Google actually release a ROM (that would be fully supported) by them, but we all the know the chances of that happening.
The reasons I might switch to it are:
if they release a good, stable, and fast clamshell device with a nice screen.
if the softwares I am looking for are all supported and can be found.
otherwise, I am happy with WM, but it takes a lot of time and effort just setting it to run the way you want. I wish it could be as easy as opening a box.
I have had 5 windows mobile phones so far in the last 5 years and presently I have the HD. I can see each generation progressively improve and I think HD is the best phone I ever had.
For me switching over to Android, I can only consider if they have an office program as powerful as Softmaker. I extensively use my phone for managing and editing word and excel documents and I am all out for SoftMaker. So till the other platforms have anything whcih comes close to this switch over is not a possibility for me.
Android's alright, but Windows Mobile has such an extensive library of applications, and such a large support community, that I cannot imagine what it would be like without all that.
Plus, if you have a popular Windows Mobile device, it's likely that within a year, Android will have been ported with almost full hardware/software functionality (exceptions include cameras, proprietary hardware like proximity sensors, etc.), so it's really a win-win situation with most WINdows Mobile devices. Just my opinions anyway.

I already made the switch to android for the most part and love it, but still have my dash around for gaming. Wm is awesome but so is android, will take time to really take off though.
i love winmo but i am getting sick of all the problems, lack of updates, crappy UI, need to actually cover up the OS, etc.
I have been running Android on my Vogue on and off and like the change so im probably gonna try out a new OS on a new device till WM7 hits cuz 6.5 is just rubbish in updates compared to the competition
iPhone Gen 3.0 or most likely Palm Pre are next on the horizon for me

new to the forum, have a question

am between a TP2 and a Hero on sprint, i like how big the TP2 is but can i get the sense ui from the hero on it. or can i get android 2.1 running sense ui on it. don't really know much about the TP2 or Hero have been using a pre since release.
just want to know what i can do to a TP2 as apposed to a hero, and really like the look of the touch pro 2 but i'm not sure i'll like Windows mobile, even if it's with a cooked 6.5.5 rom.
any help would be awesome.
1st off, it is best to figure out, "what will I use this phone for".
Honestly, this is my take on the whole situation. If you want a phone that is "yours", there is no substitute for windows customizations. To really make it a phone that is yours though will require a couple days of research and a couple days of testing (cooked roms vs stock) to find out what you like best.
Android is going to be very easy to set up...basic touch icon menus and widgets for customization features. At the end of the day it will be a phone that works and has various multimedia features, but it won't be quite as "yours" as a winmo phone would be.
Both are great operating systems and it really boils down to what you want as a consumer.
*edit*
Forgot to mention beforehand, but if you are in an IT environment, WinMo's remote desktop and mobile office make a HUGE difference.
The Touch Pro 2 is great... check out this thread for a Sense UI... forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604146 .
Good Luck!

new phone help

I know theres a few of these threads, but also a lot of phones out there. my contract is up.currently got a blackstone want to upgrade. like the large screen and ability to customise. so looking for similar with lots of customisation. got sense on this so not really interested in hd2 if pretty much same as hd1? maybe even an Android os? also dont like the camera on my phone.so considering a Sony eric.or Samsung.any thoughts
my old man just got the Galaxy, i had a play with that over the weekend that's rather nice, and my friend has the X10 imo it sucks, as I understand with Android from my friend over the pond you cant really do half as much customising on Android as you can on WinMo i could be wrong,
Can´t compare Blackstone with Leo!
Leo is far away superior in all the fastest WM device to this date.
As for Android I would stick to HTC with WM

How can he, when HTC aren't sticking with Windows Mobile?
I changed from WM to Android and haven't look back since. It's just better. Looking forward to seeing what WP7 brings to the table though. Not long now.
i did try loading android to my phone and it did look really nice, smoother. neater.
but didnt get to play with it too much as battery doesnt survive.
can android be customised like winmo?
i think most important for me is : i have tomtom on my HD, does android come with sat nav (for free) or will my tomtom work on it?
plus im looking for something that has a big screen, and it`ll keep me happy for 18mths at least, either with new improvements or new roms to be loaded and tried. new apps etc.

Because WM gives me all that I need on my business/pleasure dialy usage, more solid, more mature OS is what I find on it, now waiting WP7 will make me stay out of Google Android hands for long time
Of course this is only my personal opinion

WM7, Android or IOS?

Looking for a new phone, i've used WM5, then 6, 6.1, 6.5 - it's always been a fun and intriguing venture, but none have wowed me compared to the stability and ease of the iphone.
Now i'm about to upgrade finally from my Touch pro and all the options seem great (compared to the old WM platform)
I'd like opinions on which OS everyone thinks is the best bet moving forward for say the next couple years. wasn't even considering another WM phone but just looked at WM7 and it's clearly a whole world ahead of 6
Thanks all for humoring me
I have always been a PDA/Smart phone fan started with the palm and moved on to WM phones, and dabbled with symbian too but since having an android phone I havent looked back.
I personally see iPhone as a fashion accessory that HAS to be the lastest one or-else, and a pretty toy, but I cannot comment too much on this as I haven't owned one.
Looking at Wm7 it looks too dumbed down for my liking.
my monies with Android but go with the highest end device you can afford as I got stuck with a HTC Magic (32b) (read too slow and ****e) but playing with the galaxy s I am even more in love with android.
My two pence worth
WM!!
If those 3 were the only OS in the world I think I would go for Android...
But thanks that we have Windows Mobile too!
Which is far away from being dead, even if MS wants it
If you want the stability and smoothness of an OS wp7 and iOS are the two you want to look at. I tried wp7 and I do like it but I prefer ios.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm slightly confused...is WM7 and WP7 the same thing here? i feel like between the last 2 posts is there an OS i overlooked or am i just missing something??
windows phone 7 REPLACED WinMo which reached a version of 6.something
