(Mods, delete if you think this is useless)
I tried Jac's 2.3.5, DrizzieNRosie, IonR2, soulife1.1.
I took "time it takes to ring" as a benchmark.
T1 = Time at which the CALLER hears the ring.
T2 = Time at which the G1 starts rining.
T2-T1 = time i am reporting.
Results:
Soulife1.1 = Too small an interval to measure without the use of advance measurements.
IonR2 = Same as Soulife1.1
Jacs 2.3.5 = approx 5 seconds (3-4 rings)
DnR = approx 5 seconds (3-4 rings)
Is this observation common to all? Or its just my G1 which has given up on me.
You're benchmarking the phone network, NOT your devices...
Well, rb2k, I'm assuming he is on the same network for all of the tested builds. That makes it a constant, not a variable. Also I am assuming that it is from the same line to the phone each time. That makes this an acceptable test. Nice idea.
And yeah, that's about right. Haha.
please read again.
carefully.
Basic idea good
Real problem for me is each ROM version has strengths in different areas. How useful is a fastest time to ring if browser sucks or gmail takes forever to load?
Well considering its a phone, I would think that ringing is more important than browsing/email.
That said, although I think the Hero Browser is nice, the fact that it is 4X slower than the Ion Browser leaves me going with the function over fashion.
Same can be said about 95% of Hero. Its beautiful, but not intended for the G1.

fastest time to ring = you are able to answer the phone before the other person hangs up assuming no response.
A phone is first a phone at least for me!
besides, you can get a cheap netbook for less than 200$. That will be amazing in browsing and gmail. and movies!

Your network is NOT a constant... GSM/UMTS Networks have HEAVY fluctuations (especiall the switching between UMTS/GSM <-> POTS)
A whole lot of Infrastructure (Node B, BTS, MSC, GMSC, HLR, SGSN, ...) can't be expected to behave the same on arbitrary tests

He's right.
Also, without disclosing your sample sizes (i'm assuming you made more than just one test call per build...) and standard deviations, your statistics are pretty much useless.
I have the same problem with JackHero and its derivatives, it never sounds before the fourth ring
im running on Drizzy's latest hero rom.......the phone ringing lags too much....
my friend's called my phone......after about 6-7 rings.....(on his phone) my phone started to show up the name and stuff........and then my friend hung up.....my phone started ringing for a number of secs.......i kept pressing the end call button but it didnt work..........just lag.......time lag or stuff
I was having the same problem with Jacman rom 2.33 before. When the phone rings, the cpu of the phone goes up to 100%. So i go back to jacman version 2.1, everything is running smooth there. The g1 shows up the contact in second ring. I hope this helps!
I just called my cell from my office phone 5 times and all 5 times my cell rang at the first ring. I'm still on JAC's 2.3.3 though.
Yea, like mentioned before this benchmark won't really tell much at all. Even if you call the same # it can take an alternate path to get there.. You would need a protocol analyzer and set the start time of when the phone receives the paging notification and when the audible ring is heard on the G1. The far end hearing the ringback tells you absolutely nothing.. You could hear ringback from the calling party a couple seconds before you the called G1 actually starts ringing due to network latency (including extra features on your mobile accounts)
is it possible for change the number of seconds it takes for a call to be forwarded to ur vmail?

OK. I will get all that setup done and will try and findout why the moment i flash Latest jac's hero image, the whole network (and not the phone) slows down.
In the meantime, lets have a couple of ground rules:
1. Lets not assume that everyone on xda except you is a dumbass.
2. Lets not assume that everyone on xda except you doesnt know how to test or doesnt know about average/mean/median calculations.
3. Finally, lets not try and dissuade someone without carrying out the experiments yourself. Especially when more than one person has faced the same issue with the newer roms.
btw, i work in mobile sector. Have knowledge about the OS's internals, infact, worked on android. and also know a lot about the telephony stack and the protocol.

Regardless of all the nitpicking I think anyone who has used Ion and Hero can vouch for these results. When I get a call in Hero I can see the gears turning and things slow down to a grind and eventually the phone brings up the call. This is not the case on Ion, the moment you have any inclination to think there is something incoming it is already on the screen.
It would seem the phone is receiving the call in the same amount of time regardless of build but because the Hero builds are slower it takes longer to show on screen, ring, vibrate, get the callers photo, etc.
I can also vouch for the results as I've noticed an overall decrease in phone speeds with hero.
EDIT: I forgot that telnet only works for the emulator. Anyone know a way of simulating a call via adb, or a way of using telnet with a phone rather than the emulator?
However, for resting sake I think you can it out the network completely and use a telnet session to test the software response time. This may not be exactly how to do it as I'm not hope at the moment but this should be close enough to figure out...
Code:
telnet localhost 5554
gsm call 1234567
[\CODE]
this should simulate a gsm call via your computers terminal and show you exactly how long it takes the roms to recognize and answer a call

Ok I am not trying to replace the other Android thread. It just seemed over crowded to try to ask another question. I was just wondering who has got android working (Making calls, using the internet over 3G/GRPS/EDGE, does it boot every time, and how often does it freeze) and what radio/rom do you have.
For android devlopment see this thread.
I can not use the internet or make calls. It boots every time but freezes after a few minutes.
I have L26V12 and Radio 1.65.24.36.
BTW: To all the people who have been working on Android development GREAT JOB!!!
I voted "Sort of", even though your description of "Sort of" doesn't exactly match my experience. More accurately, I CAN briefly get some Internet traffic once in a while, but have never been able to make a successful phone call. In any case, it completely freezes in about 2-3 minutes.
Please post what rom/radio you have and how well it works.
i have some internet (google map) (no browsing) but i can't make calls but it seems to freeze when i use the google maps
Yes (we can only have when the port is complete)
Sort of / Not Really (what we have now)
No (read the Android Thread and you'll have 'Sort of/Not Really')
Sort of - Boots everytime but freezes after less than 1min, usually I barely have time to launch an app before it freezes, so not been able to test it really.

Just FYI for everyone, that is not a sufficient reason on its own to create a new Thread.
Sort of.
I use a Nothrills rom (French rom, based on an official HTC rom with updated softwares but no other modifications)
Boot not every time.
Phone calls ok
Google maps ok
Didn't try to browse
And freeze after 2 or 3 minutes
Android rarely boots
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.5.2)

Hi all,
Since its now out and people have them (inc myself!) I thought I'd start a new thread with initial thoughts etc
I like the feel of the unit it feels more solid than my Vario II
I synced all my contacts and texts etc but havent used it to make calls etc yet so cant comment here but the sync was as expected
The phone itself looks great -its a shame the touch-flo is so t-mobile but thats to be expected
I'll probably buy a spare battery once im sure im happy with it (I have a spare with my vario II)
so far I've only installed tomtom 7 (athough there is co-pilot data on the SD Card??)
anywho so far happy but early days!!
J
No opera only IE installed I'll look for an opera cab!!
Are there any significant issues with the latest opera beta?
I see loads of threads relating to it
Should I get the stable build (8.5?) or use the beta?
Ok folks, I've made a small discovery. If you Hard Reset the device, it gives you CoPilot 7 AND Opera back, BUT (and here's the kicker) it gives you a different (older??) version of TouchFlo 3D.
The version I have after the hard reset is 1.2.34589.1_1813.6
What do (sensible) people have out of the box?
The main difference that I can see is that it doesn't have the Favourites (in a circle arrangement) on the far left of the TouchFlo panel and I also seem to remember it looking slightly different as well. I know T-mobile test each phone before they send them out - could they have updated the software through USB but not touched the ROM? Seems like the most likely option IMO.
In respect of the device, so far I'm very impressed with the Vario's speed.
I'm comparing it to the MDA Compact IV I had for a week last year - the extra RAM definitely seems to make a noticeable difference.
Edit:
After Hard Reset:
ROM Version: 1.69.110.8 WWE
ROM Date: 08/21/08
Radio Version: 1.02.25.19
Protocol Version: 52.33.25.17U

Just ordered mine from T Mobile today - at leat the CSR knew (without prompting) it was called the Vario IV, even if they had none in stock!
Re the CoPilot - I have been a long time user of CP6 (came with my Compact II) - is it useable? And did you specify it when ordering, or do you think its inclusion (given your hard reset) is an oversight by T-Mobile?
CoPilot Live is 7 Day Trial

What version of Opera is it?
Supplied Touch pro is:

Opera is Version 9.5, build 1522.
There is CAB file in the Windows folder to install Opera, when I first Hard reset the device and tried running it, it did not work. I think there's another file (registry?) that needs running to activate it but I quickly gave up and just reset the thing to see what would happen!
Does your TouchFlo have Favourites on the left of the Home tab?
Loving the phone at the moment. But...... texts i receive are with an internaional prefix, so the vario doesn't recognize who sent it.
Strange because there is no such problem with incoming calls ???

Oh really? Another way of doing it is Start--Settings--System--Clear Storage.
The front screen you have is the same as mine now. When I get a chance I'll call up tech support to find out if they have an update.
I did the latter option and it worked thanks
Just Resyncing and putting on texts etc and then I'll play with co-pilot!

I have all my numbers stored in international format so my texts were being recognised but incoming calls weren't. Haven't had a chance to test properly but I think I've solved this by using Schapp's Advanced Config which allows you to change the number of digits that are matched.
As nice as the phone is, there a few things that are driving me crazy and I have a feeling I'm going to return it:
* Pressing left/right on the DPad requires you to press in exactly the right area otherwise you hit the call/home/hangup/back keys which is incredibly frustrating.
* No dedicated hardware keys to launch applications. I know you can configure double/triple clicks on the call/hangup keys but it doesn't work too well. You can't configure long presses on these keys
* Can't configure double/triple/long presses of the home or back keys
* Lack of hardware softkeys means I'm unable to use Sky Mobile (the java app) which, for some reason, doesn't work if you press the softkeys on the screen. Although I don't use this that often, it's incredibly useful to have.
I really don't like using Windows Mobile and having to rely on the touchscreen for everything as it's not really designed for finger operation alone. The hardware keys on the Wizard and Kaiser made them really easy to use but I can see I'm not going to get on with this :-( If only I hadn't smashed the screen on my Kaiser!
agree with most of your comments antlane, I will be calling tmobile to return one of my two handsets, I have to say the battery life on this phone is so poor. After a full charge took it off 6am this morning by 12 it had 30% left. It will not last a day for me.

@antlane you're a hero. I searched this forum and Google high and low before finding this answer. I've made the adjustment now (to 9 digits seems to work for me in the UK) and life is back to normal
For the purposes of being able to find this fix easily from web searching:
Problem: International Format Contact Numbers Not Recognised (in my case HTC Touch Pro/Raphael/Vario IV)
Solution: Use Schapp's Advanced Config to adjust number of digits matched (under 'phone' section).
As far as your other comments go, I too have mixed feelings about lack of hard buttons (especially for scroll, messaging and camera). But, in balance I am very impressed with TFL3D - it's really integrated well with the OS and provides functionality on top (e.g. remembering what track you were listening to before soft reset unlike WMP). It's fast and gives you the kind of look and feel that I expect from such a capable handset. Also like: keyboard, screen and soft keyboard options. Don't like: excessive T-mobile branding on TFL3D, lack of plain Opera option in programs (only WebnWalk), lack of 3.5mm headphone jack (adapter city still).
Thanks again @antlane
Thanks for that. Switching to 9 digits in advanced config, sorts it out perfectly.
How are people finding the T mobile branding ?? Its a bit pink for me so i may have to find a way to switch it back to HTC Black and grey.

While I don't doubt this fix works for the phone, why on earth should we have to resort to a third party program to get a basic feature of EVERY phone made in the last 10 years or so??
My Vario II could identify a number if it had a +447 or 07 prefix..why can't my shiny new toy??
I've been dealing with T-Mobile customer support and then the tech support team as well over the last couple of days.
So far I've been told to remove any duplicate contacts from the phone memory (there weren't any) then copy all contacts from my SIM over to the phone memory...and erase all SIM contacts when that didn't work!
The last thing they've suggested is that my SIM (which is about 8/9 years old) is not supplying enough voltage (3 volts as opposed to 5 volts of modern SIMs) so they're sending me a new SIM card tomorrow. Apparently (and it made me laugh) this is a common Windows Mobile fault!
Has anyone heard of this "fault" or is this typical tech support BS??!?
Vario IV and Parrot BT
Something else thats frustrating me is that the Vario wont pair fully with my Rythum and Blue stereo in the car.
All other HTC devices (going back to the universal) pair in such a way that contacts and call history sync with the car stereo
The vario IV does connect but wont sync
Annoying as the Object push profile is supported by the phone
I'll probably still keep the phone just use it less in car for calls
I have been tweaking and testing different programs, radios etc and I am now extremely happy with my TP performance. Thanks to everyone on the board that has helped on my quest for the ultimate device!

Hey Matt,
please post your tweaks and programs to help US out too!
thanks!
Do yourself a favor, and BACK UP everything on your phone, so if you have to hard reset, you won't have to spend another 7 months tweaking everything back the way you had it.
When I installed the "test rom", after 12 hours of getting it all the way I wanted, I screwed around with the TP2 TF3D and didn't like it, hard reset, then restored everything back the way it was in less than 1/2 hour.

Congrats, after 4 months, 4 custom roms, on 3 TP's im finally happy and bug free with everything i want (except the damn galarm/s2u2 bug).
What are you running?
Everything is backed up and clean
I am running
ROM 1.90.161.5 WWE
Radio 1.02.25.28
Advanced Config
S2U2
SPB Time
SKSchema which I have programed to check my email every hour. Stock client never worked. And also soft reset every night to keep it fresh
TomTom7
GPS Test
Resco File Explorer and Reg Edit
Torch Button
AEB Plus
I am running the GPS tweaks cab which deletes the GPS log and turns off agps. I get a lock on tomtom in about 10 secs stationary and 30 secs moving
Also turned off face down mute as it really annoyed me.
Data connection terminates after 30 secs of inactivity
I imported some smart touch reg keys so I can use the scroll wheel for phone, contacts, programs etc...
Applied all the power settings in advance config
a couple of other minor tweaks which dont affect performance but make it easier for me.
And thats about it.
Matt
I would suggest so many more apps, but i dont want to mess up the good thing you have going.
Id drop touch button and get Htorch.....for sure

Good for you! At least someone is happy with their TP.
I bought my in August last year and I was quite thrilled the first 2-3 weeks. But then it only got frustrating... I'm trying to avoid any custom ROMs and radios (I'm not too skilled in flashing + I'd like to keep the warranty) so I only experimented with tweaks and appls. Although in my opinion the device should work fine with the ROM provided by the manufacturer, eh?
Anyway, I'm so frustrated with this piece of c**p - I had to send it back for repair twice already. Now I'm actually hoping that two more faults will occur so I could claim my money back.
Just some of the issues I've been having since I bought it:
- TF3D freezes a couple of times a day
- ringer delay (even with the WM default dialer)
- emails are not coming in (even though I set the client to check them every 2 hours)
- GPS is a disaster! (100-200m lag, fix takes a long time even with QuickGPS and clear sky)
- sound occasionaly not working during alarms (making it very unreliable)
- generally very slow performance of the device (especially TF3D is laggy as hell)
- ActiveSync (with Outlook) stops working without any apparent reason (no changes were made neither on the computer nor on TP)
- and many many more...
I just wondered if your tweaks were able to fix some of those mentioned above? Although I have already decided to get rid of TP as soon as possible I can give it another chance...
Anyway, I hope you will enjoy your TP for a long time ;-)

Hi Ferus, with regards to TF3D, i ditched it, it wasd useless. I much prefer S2U2 and the default WM today screen
E-mails is where i had the most trouble. I use skschema to check my mail every hour. Works perfectly. I spent ages trying to find a fix. the script is #r(/windows/tmail.exe) #p(-service"youraccountname" -sync) just replace your account name with the exact name of your email account for example mine is "Yahoo!" Now this only works if the device is not locked using the built in locking as it brings the mail app to the foreground. works perfectly with s2u2 though.
Flashing my radio to the one above helped loads with GPS, also applying the gps tweaks cab really makes a difference.
Alarms was a problem i had with all my wm phones. This is now overcome using spb time. never had a missed alarm. sound also goes off if phone is silent
I dont have a problem with performance. I reccomend getting rid of TF3D.
I havent hadf any problems with Activ sync so cant help im afraid.

Ferrus,
Relating to the 'freezes several times a day', i used to get that, albiet, freezing once every 4 days when i received a text. After flashing to the latest HTC ROM (updated version) over a month ago, i haven't had a crash since.
M
ferus:
I know you said you didn't want to flash a different ROM, but if you can wait a little longer hopefully AT&T will release their update for us.
There is a leaked test ROM upgrade here that fixes TONS of bugs, greatly speeds up the device, AND make GPS better (fast fixes with working aGPS...if you have data). The lag is still there, but not as bad as it was in the beginning.
The new radio in that ROM is leaps and bounds better than the stock radio.
If you need any warranty work done, you'll probably have to flash back to the stock ROM...unless they release the final version of this test one before then.

I had similar experiences until I used cooked roms. If you want a good stable rom I would try Might Mike's, or Juicy's... I had similar issues to most of your and they were all solved with a fresh rom. TF3D is zippy and sweet and I have pretty much solved them.
As far as the GPS... that was solved by updating to the 1.11 sprint radio. I lock on in less than 20 secs every time now. Not sure that will work for the ATT. Not sure if ATT is CDMA. I am sure there are some ATT compatible ones that would also solve your issues.
Thanks for all the answers and tips The whole weekend I was struggling with my TP and finally I decided to go through with a ROM flash.
Someone suggested some ROMs already but I was wondering if you can recommend me a stable, quick and responsive (kind of a the-less-apps-the-better kind of ROM)?
I'm about to browse through the ROM forum but I'm afraid it contains TOO MUCH information. So I would appreciate any suggestions.
I use my TP as a normal PDA user (phone, email, internet, GPS, IM are the most used features).
Thanks in advance, I hope I can finally get a decent PDA ;-)

Hi.
Mind sharing how can I get the above cab?
I have been using YouMail's service on my phones for quite some time and was excited to see there was an app for Android, but after 2+ months of use (and several versions of the .apk, including the most recent Beta) I am still experiencing 100% awake time when the app is running.
If I kill it my phone will immedietly because to sleep normally. But each time I receive a phone call or open the app it will keep the phone from sleeping again.
I have been in contact with their support (which is how I received the Beta version) and have been sending Dumps their way, but was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue.
Info: Running Fresh 1.1 on a newly 1.56 RUU'ed hero.

I stopped using the app because of this. I tried contacting support and was brushed off. I love the app but not the lack letting my phone sleep.
I am working with a developer of the app to fix the problem and have tested several versions. Will keep you updated of the progress.

That would be great. Thanks for helping him out with this as I would love to use the app.
I don't mean to thread jack this, but.
Whats the difference in YouMail and our Sprint Visual Voice Mail? I have never used youMail.

YouMail http://www.youmail.com/home/index.do is a service that replaces Sprint's (or any other provider) voice mail service with their own. It allows you to set custom "smart" greetings for each caller in your contacts, among other things. Check out the site for more info.
Here is the latest response from the developer I have been working with.
Hi [Name],
I did some more research and can confirm that I see the same behavior as you when I run the YouMail app ('active' @ 100%)
I'm not exactly sure what the cause is, as the application is indeed going to sleep when it has nothing to do. The problem also seems to be quite widespread, affecting what seems to be "most" applications that loiter around in the background doing nothing for most of the time.
Since you use 'Spare Parts' you should notice that in there is a way of viewing the 'Partial Wake Lock' usage of a given application. According to the Android developer documentation this is the ONLY way an application can keep the phone "awake" other than 'prodding' it every 30 seconds or so (and you'd notice that 'coz the screen would never go off).
As long as that "Partial Wake Lock" value is low (and it should be unless you're constantly hitting "Menu -> Poll") it means the application is indeed behaving correctly.
All I can offer is that we develop a new feature into the app so that you can tell it to automatically exit when all of the automatic polling settings are disabled - that way the phone would literally shut down the app "sometime" after you back out of the message list. Do you think that's worth it? Or should we wait for HTC/T-Mobile to fix the root cause of the problem?

And my response:
Do you mind if I share some of our conversation with a community forum? It might help get others involved and more feedback for you to use in further development.
As far as other apps loitering in the background, my understanding is that Android (using the same process as other Linux distros) keeps recently used applications in RAM to make them more quickly accessible to the user, and will clear them as the RAM is needed by other apps.
I have seen this issue in the past with other apps (i.e. the HTC messaging app locking the dialer and maintaining 100% awake time) but has all been resolved by updates to the apps themselves.

Lastly, his response:
Feel free, I don't think I said anything bad
I we get enough requests from "the community" I'll be given time to add the 'exit when done' option (basically it'll become a "dumb" app that only checks for messages when you start it up instead of waking up every so often to check [like after you miss a call])
And yes, Android is a little stranger than normal in that it tends to leave applications running for an unspecified time after you "close" them. (basically until it needs to run something else, or it runs out of memory, or .....)
The YouMail app is a little different in that it runs as a background service and schedules the phone to wake it up whenever "events of interest" occur (you get a TXT, your phone rings, it needs to poll, etc) - so even if the OS does close the app because you logged onto "hugebitmaps.com" and the phone ran out of memory, it'll start it up again as soon as it can.
I suspect the HERO OS is not allowing the phone to sleep, even though the application is literally doing nothing. I don't recall this problem on my trusty G1 when it had Android 1.5, so maybe some of HTC's customizations have broken something

I can post more of the conversation history if it would help. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this beyond coding issues?
If anyone wants to send their YouMail log for inspection just enter this code in the dialer *#*#963867#*#* (*#*#YMDUMP#*#*) and it will let you send an email with the log's text.
Tried in 2.1 beta
"I suspect the HERO OS is not allowing the phone to sleep, even though the application is literally doing nothing. I don't recall this problem on my trusty G1 when it had Android 1.5, so maybe some of HTC's customizations have broken something "
I also tried using this app on the 2.1 ROM that Flipz and company have been working on, and had the same issue. I do not know enough programing to determine if this is a problem with OS or the app. I can only give you my experience and try other stuff out to see what the results are. I hope this helps.

Hi, Doug from YouMail here.
Just noticed my words and thought I'd give an update - although not much good news.
I basically spent the last 2 days completely reworking the YouMail app's back end code so that anything and everything that could possibly be shut down when it isn't actually doing anything is indeed shut down.
When it came time to test it out -- 100% awake time again (although I stand by my earlier comments that "its not just us").
If I run the same app on a HTC G1 the phone will last a good 2 days (maybe more) without battery issues. If I uninstall the app the difference is minor.
This information, added to all the discussion on the Sprint forums about how the HTC "extras" that this phone comes bundled with have caused the same problem leads me to think that there is something in the Hero that's not behaving properly.
I see other comments like "It does the same on my <insert phone model here>" - well, we don't have unlimited resources, so if you can put the small amount of effort in to dial the 'dump' code mentioned above (*#*#963867#*#*) then maybe we can start to find a pattern here (maybe it's all the Android 1.5 based devices for example).
I'd also like to thank crunchybutternut for all of his assistance and time in trying to sort this issue out.

If I can get in touch with someone who has access to the "guts" of the device and that can help me determine whats going wrong then that would be great. Neither the Android developer list nor the HTC forums are particularly helpful when it comes to tricky problems.
Bump
Anyone have some insight on this?
Ok - If someone working on one of these custom builds is prepared to lend a little assistance I'm willing to put a custom build on my phone and try to debug this a little deeper. However, with the number of hours that I get to work on this app.... and all the "fun" blocks that Google have been putting in our way w.r.t Android 2.x, I may not get much more time to work this problem.
That being said, I'm going to try experimenting with a new test app that just adds (one at a time) the raw features of the YouMail app in the hope that a single change triggers this wonderful problem you guys have. If that's the case then I'll put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and try to work around whatever is causing it.

Got this from ymDoug:
No progress as yet - not seen anything from xda folks either.
I've made *massive* changes to ensure the app is shutting down absolutely everything it can when it has nothing to do - still no joy.
I've even gone through a lot of the Android source code and can't find anything that would indicate I'm doing anything wrong. There is one debugging method I'd dearly love to call inside the Google Android code (it dumps out a list of who is keeping the phone awake at any point in time) but the method is only accessible to (a) Google, and (b) People who cook their own ROMs. The official Android people are doing their usual stand-up job of ignoring the difficult questions
I am still making the odd change here and there, and my test app doesn't seem to be having the same problems (of course)
Regardless, there will be an updated version on the web site in the next day or so - I'll need to ensure my changes haven't completely screwed things up

FYI: The version in the market is several revisions behind.
This has been an ongoing problem with my last two phones. First was an HTC Touch Pro, now an HTC Touch Pro2. It doesn't matter if I am on a stock or custom ROM or whatever.
I noticed that when I called people, especially when the headphone jack was plugged in (using the auxiliary port in my car speakers) that people would be unable to hear me for a good 5 to 30 seconds. I could hear them but they couldn't hear me. Eventually they'd be able to hear me.
I kept killing processes one by one until I narrowed it down. It was Microsoft Voice Command! I was really surprised because I use the program only for announcing who is calling me (very nice feature so I don't have to run to the phone if it's someone I don't care about). I don't use it for dialing or anything of the like.
I have Googled for hours and a few people have the same problem but the only fix appears to be "don't use Voice Command" which sucks. I guess what I'm asking is if either a) there's a way to fix MSVC so this doesn't happen or b) there's a program that announces who is calling you that I can use instead of MSVC.
MSVC was annoying anyway because when you click "mute ring" when someone is calling you it still repeats the name! Pretty stupid. So I guess I'd just like some sort of replacement program for announcing incoming calls. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried fixing this issue using this?

Thanks but that program did little more than allow me to change the volumes and speeds.
I have the same issue with my Blackstone. When I check the running process I find that Voice Command takes almost 100 pct and James everything else.
I also Need it to announce who is calling.
Yeah I'm essentially giving up on MSVC ever working correctly, so if anyone know of a program that just announces who is calling, that would work just great.

LOL,Yea, it does a lot but I would ask your question about your headjacks in that forum. I am sure you would get an answer.
um, what versions are you guys using?
tried using an up to date one?
Microsoft_Voice_Command_v1.6.23562.cab
(for 6.5.x)
Microsoft_Voice_Command.v1.6.21881.cab

MVC1.6 - no please! i am looking for a Voice activated app...
What good is that MVC1.6 if you have to Press a button and then say command? its called crap. Such a Program is already inbuilt in my WM6.
I am looking for a Voice program that keeps running in the background and its always in the listening mode and I can simply "SAY" these commands "as well".
1) WakeUp - wakes up my PPC
2) Sleep - PPC goes to Sleep mode (PPC is On though)
3) Programmed to wake me up at a particular time (by a beautiful Virtual Girl)
4) and Features of MVC1.6
is there anything like that for PPC WM6 ? CE5.2 version?
