I have written a small program Vox-OC to assist with overclocking Vox using Tornado Power Control(TPC).
No more playing around with the shortcut(.lnk) files required to change the speed. This application will allow you to easily change the speed by selecting the speed from the application. All the three states of TPC (Power_On, Power_Backlightoff, Power_UserIdle) can be tweaked using this application.
This program also includes Load.exe to start TPC in hidden state, it will be placed in the "\Program Files\" directory.
In addition you can now easily add or remove TPC from the startup using this application. This application depends on TPC so make sure that you have it installed on your device memory (not in storage card).
Installation :
1. Install TPC on device memory. ( View attachment TornadoPowerControl14.cab )
2. Install Vox OC on device memory. ( View attachment 69878 )
3. Done
Now start Vox-OC from start menu and adjust the speed
This application will work on all devices where TPC works.
I have tested only on VOX because thats the only device I have.
People with other devices, Do let me know if it works fine on your device.
p.s.
On uninstalling this will remove load.exe from "\Program Files\" directory, so if you want to keep using TPC without Vox-OC make sure you backup Load.exe.
edit:
program updated.
thanks to ljesh, who found the problem.
I had forgotten that TPC puts empty links on installation.
download the updated program and reinstall
Cool, I'll have to test this out on my Verizon SMT5800 CDMA Vox when it gets here hopefully next week.
Vox-OC faced an error.
Application will quit now.
thats because you don't have Tornado Power Control installed to the device memory, it must be in the device memory and not in the storage card.
Uninstall TPC and Vox-OC and install(first TPC then Vox-OC) again, taking care to install to the device.
Re-did that (although even the first time i installed them correctly), same problem.
It simply doesn't work on my Vox
And nobody (yet) didn't say that it does work but the author of this topic, so we can see it like that is not my problem only. At least for now
The application has been fixed. There was a small error which I had missed. Its working now.
Thanks to ljesh
works like an oiled up volvo! (great haha)
Thanks man!
What is safe speed? im running 240 without the horitional blur.
252 and 264 runs good but the blur appears (is it dangerous?), on my tornado i ran 264 and saw no blur (didint look for it either so i really dont know) it crashed at 272.
i run my vox at 228, yeah its slow at that speed but I prefer that over the blur thing at 240 and above.
Now it works. Perfect
nice to know that it worked for you
Hi Prajith,
Better to use TPC 2.0 Beta 4 else you can not use Tornado Low light
i have tested it also, working fine. Low light does not work with TPC version you provided.
Also Load.exe if runs in startup can never hide TPC but keep it showing in task manager.
If you can fix it, it would good.
I could not figure a way to hide it from the task manager
hi buddy thnx for the program nice work,it helped me overclocking my vox but there are issues which i wanna ask about
1.the tornado doesnt hide when put to boot,and it only shows maximum speed of 228 but when i selected 240 or 252 from the vox-oc and rebooted the phone after it tornado showed 228 onlky but tcpmp showed 240mhz processor
do we have to keep vox-oc application running or we can exit after setting the speed
i have noticed increase in performance thnx to u but if one wants to increase than 228 wht can he do??
and at 228 mhz setting it tcpmp showed 220mhz ??
which application can i use to get exact information abt the speed of processor at which its running after over clocking...
1. yeah Tornado keeps running in the background, I am still trying to find a way to run Tornado as a process.
2. You do not need to keep Vox-OC running, its a set and quit application. Try reinstalling both Tornado and Vox-OC (both in device memory). On every start Vox-OC should show the current speed setting.
3. You can set any speed using Vox-OC (be careful above 252Mhz, your device may stop responding).
4. Tcpmp always shows the speed a little less, I guess it is accurate enough. Its normal for the actual speed to be a little less than the overclocking steps.
5. I do not know of any other application that shows the speed
yup i checked the tcpmp speed was less than wht the omap clock was showing..but its fine i dnt think i hve to reinstall the applications again as they both r working fine and vox is faster now..and there is not much difference of speed wht vox-oc and tcpmp is showing that hardly matters
thx for the application...
if possible work on making the tornado go hide...!!
To make Tornado unavailable for the taskmanager simply highlight it in task and on options screen click Exclude. It will dissapear from the list and remain a process. Even after a reboot.
excluding Tornado from taskmanager(using celetask?) will just make it invisible to that application. try using htc task manager it will be still there
we have to find a way to start it as a process
yup we have to search 4 a solution for vox
Works perfectly on my s710! I'm very pleased with the speed, Thanks!
Great App!
Did you found a solution to start it as a process yet?
Would make this program perfect for my Vox!
Hey everyone,
With the intro of BFS302 and Cyan's almost stable rom, I figured it is time to do some testing w/ user.conf files on CM 4.1.99. I feel this is necessary because I notice that after ~12 hours or so, the phone really starts to lag and I have a suspicion it has something to do w/ compcache.
I WAS using the stock CM 4.1.99 setting (24mb compcache), and now I am trying a user.conf that uses 64mb compcache w/o backing swap.
Anyone have any good settings\configs that have worked well for them AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF USE?
The phone always seems to be quick after bootup and a taskkill, but after a few hours (possibly when compcache gets full) it starts to act sluggish
EDIT: Now that 4.1.999 is out, what is everyone using for user.conf settings?
EDIT2: Now that 4.1.9999 (and possibly more to come) is out, what is everyone using? I have added the corrected userinit.sh and my current conf file for reference if anyone wants.

You are starting this testing thread on a ROM that has broken BFS and Compcache. This has been reportedly fixed by Cyanogen for the next update. Maybe it would be best to wait to try this when compcache is working efficiently again.
Oh, well thats good to hear. Hadnt heard anything about BFS or compcache issues yet. Anyway, guess we can continue testing once the new update comes out today.
Well to answer your question though, miketaylor00's user.def script has been working really well for me since I started using it...

Here's mine (Unix formatted, open in Notepad++). Running great on CM 4.1.99 for almost 2 days now w/o rebooting. Everything's still smooth and responsive.
Here are the highlights:
...
# 32MB cc with 24MB backing swap on Linux-swap partition
compcache_en=1
cc_disksize=32
cc_memlimit=24
cc_backingswap_en=1
cc_backingswap=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
cc_swappiness=60
...
# swapfile off
swap_file_en=0
...
# swap partition off
linux_swap_en=0
...
# Defaults here
proc_cpu_en=1
scaling_min_freq=245760
scaling_max_freq=528000
sampling_rate=2000000
powersave_bias=200
up_threshold=40
...
I've also had good results with up_threshold set at 32. I'm also running the "extra memory" kernel hack, so that might be a contributing factor.
After messing with user.conf last night and all day yesterday, it seems the best solution is to just disable CC and enable linux swap or nothing at all until the update is released.
Thanks for your opinions and experiences. I have had 2 kernel panics\reboots today using stock settings, switched to a user.conf file I was using before to see if there is any difference. Lookin forward to the new release tonite though

Send me the default file and I'll send you my recommendation. I don't have time to load Cyanogen but I've been testing similar ROMs and I am testing the same BFS patch right now. I've found that BFS performs about the same with the same settings whether it is on Hero or Donut or Cupcake. I may not get you the optimal settings but it will be close and you can build from there.
The stock doesnt have a user.conf file, it just enables compcache 24mb by default (I believe). I usually use a slightly modified version of your user.conf file. I changed the cpu to 254760, and the swappiness to 60 (Just changed for testing).
I have a 64mb swap parition on a class 4 SD that is being used as a backing swap. I cant figure out if a backing swap is helping or not, as the lag happens after being booted for 8+ hours (usually overnight)

Keep the 64MB swap and try the settings from JacHeroSki. See how that runs for a while. What are you using for your CC memlimit? Are you still having problems on the 999 build?

Havent seen any issues on 999 build yet, but as I said, it happens after a while (when the compcache gets full and uses the backing swap, I assume). Anyway you can post the user.conf for jacherski? Is it different then xROM1.5r4 or r3?
Regarding CC_memlimit, I am currently using 24. Recommended?

Yes, BFS completely changes the game with the user.conf. Try this one out. The format might not be right so you will probably need to just copy the settings over. That's why I was going to have you send the original. I'm too lazy/busy to download and extract the CM file. But here is my BFS user.conf. I'm betting the upped CC Memlimit will probably help you out quite a bit.
Much appreciated, will 'convert' it and let ya know how it works out over the next day or so. Lookin forward to playing w/ the new xROM whenever that comes out
Zim, did you see my post in the Compcache vs. Linux vs. Stock thread? If not, check it out. It explains it a little better. I should start another thread on tuning BFS ROMs and post what I know. JacHeroSki is so fast that I'm using it as my daily ROM now. We just need to make it more stable and it will be perfect.

I agree, BFS really has given Android a whole new lease on life. So snappy. I would love to use JacHeroSki full-time, but I rely on a Bluetooth headset occasionally, so thats a deal killer....but I do have a switchrom image that I continually update to see whats new
Will check out that post, but you should start another thread about tweaking specifically w/ BFS. Seems to be gaining universal acceptance in the community, and it def changes the game around.

I'm really interested to see how those settings run on the latest Cyan. I have been wanting to tune it but I haven't had the time. That ROM is a lower priority for me because only a handful of people seem to want me to offer my suggestions on it. Cyanogen seems to want to stick to compcache only so I've left it alone for the most part.
copied and updated my user.conf file. Seems a lil more snappy right off the bat now. Will report back w/ long term results.
I currently use Cyanogen full-time, but I do occasionally have a habit of switching back and forth to xROM.

I am messing around w/ some Hero stuff at the moment, so I cant access my user.conf. Its pretty easy to modify miketaylor's previously released .conf, however. Ill attach my previous user.conf and you can just take the setting from miketaylor's attached one (above)
Hi
have seen many videos and few working sample on youtube but not able to contact or get any rom working on the i780.
Anyone has a clue on where or what can be retrieved to make android run on i780 as seen on the net?

just go here get this package:
andromnia
then put haret in fat partition and rest in ext3 partition on your sdcard!
ext3 has to be first part on sdcard!
works fine for me
but before use change pin not to contain "0" emergency call is preventing "0" from being pressed!
if you want to install apps(yes it works w/o market)
just put a filemanager in right place(extract and organize files by yourself!)
then you can put them anywhere opening apk using the filemanager!
works fine for me
playing paper toss (right screen is black a few rows because of wrong resolution! but at least it works
even mp3 works sms works put files in sd card folder on ext3 part. =)
that is the folder the sd card should be mounted!
Thank you for the hint!!!
The Andromnia site is not in the Google search engine (for some reasons...). It seems to work fine, I'm gonna test it in deep.
hey.
got a problem with my ext3 partition: on windows i can do nothing. ubuntu can find the ext3 device, but i canĀ“t move anything onto it - access denied, no permission.
any idea??
I anyone trying to bring the Android to i780
I know there is a strong i780 WM6.5 users community here on xda, but maybe someone would be able to cut the Android system in order to work with this phone.
As i see in WM 6.5 thread -> this phone's processor can work at 800 MHz flawlessly, and i observe that there are plenty of android phones with slower cpu.
Maybe some skilled person could work it out?
Hey guys just wondering why every time i flash my own custom rom after two or three resets the rom has 8mbs of system memory free, ive tried this on nearly every 6.5 build and the original amount of ram before resets is around 59-64mb, I am using HTC TyTn II obviously and am just wondering if anyone can help me. I was also wondering if there are anythings i should install when i build a rom which will make it run faster because it is pretty sluggish ohh yeah and on the task manager there is no prgrams running apart from task manger and the other standard windows ones. Thanks
There are a TON of reg entries you can make to speed it up. What NK are you using? I would assume stock rom NK

I would suggest getting a kitchen from josh as well.
Has anyone tried this on the Infuse ?
[SCRIPT][19.9.2011] The Best RAM Optimization - Updated!
I also did the following.
Used Root Explorer, and Open & edit /system/build.prop, change dalvik.vm.heapsize= to 80m
Any one confirms this is great ?
Have not tried, might muck around with it later today after i finish my essay. Do you think his script will run on top of DynamicRAM's 99 tweaks? I know the supercharger script didn't play nice with it if you have both installed at the same time.
Didn't notice anything
hey ya'll watch this!!
If this is what I think it is then it is what dynamic rams script is based off of. If it is an init.d script then most likely the parameters that each changes that ate the same will new set to the last commands that runs setting it. Though both may run together it is gonna be mostly redundant. One script will mostly not be applied. Changing the name of the script will determine what runs first. I know the letter s and I think e are used for this but I don't know which is set to run first. Then the number sets the order after that.
