I have written a small program Vox-OC to assist with overclocking Vox using Tornado Power Control(TPC).
No more playing around with the shortcut(.lnk) files required to change the speed. This application will allow you to easily change the speed by selecting the speed from the application. All the three states of TPC (Power_On, Power_Backlightoff, Power_UserIdle) can be tweaked using this application.
This program also includes Load.exe to start TPC in hidden state, it will be placed in the "\Program Files\" directory.
In addition you can now easily add or remove TPC from the startup using this application. This application depends on TPC so make sure that you have it installed on your device memory (not in storage card).
Installation :
1. Install TPC on device memory. ( View attachment TornadoPowerControl14.cab )
2. Install Vox OC on device memory. ( View attachment 69878 )
3. Done
Now start Vox-OC from start menu and adjust the speed
This application will work on all devices where TPC works.
I have tested only on VOX because thats the only device I have.
People with other devices, Do let me know if it works fine on your device.
p.s.
On uninstalling this will remove load.exe from "\Program Files\" directory, so if you want to keep using TPC without Vox-OC make sure you backup Load.exe.
edit:
program updated.
thanks to ljesh, who found the problem.
I had forgotten that TPC puts empty links on installation.
download the updated program and reinstall
Cool, I'll have to test this out on my Verizon SMT5800 CDMA Vox when it gets here hopefully next week.
Vox-OC faced an error.
Application will quit now.
thats because you don't have Tornado Power Control installed to the device memory, it must be in the device memory and not in the storage card.
Uninstall TPC and Vox-OC and install(first TPC then Vox-OC) again, taking care to install to the device.
Re-did that (although even the first time i installed them correctly), same problem.
It simply doesn't work on my Vox
And nobody (yet) didn't say that it does work but the author of this topic, so we can see it like that is not my problem only. At least for now
The application has been fixed. There was a small error which I had missed. Its working now.
Thanks to ljesh
works like an oiled up volvo! (great haha)
Thanks man!
What is safe speed? im running 240 without the horitional blur.
252 and 264 runs good but the blur appears (is it dangerous?), on my tornado i ran 264 and saw no blur (didint look for it either so i really dont know) it crashed at 272.
i run my vox at 228, yeah its slow at that speed but I prefer that over the blur thing at 240 and above.
Now it works. Perfect
nice to know that it worked for you
Hi Prajith,
Better to use TPC 2.0 Beta 4 else you can not use Tornado Low light
i have tested it also, working fine. Low light does not work with TPC version you provided.
Also Load.exe if runs in startup can never hide TPC but keep it showing in task manager.
If you can fix it, it would good.
I could not figure a way to hide it from the task manager
hi buddy thnx for the program nice work,it helped me overclocking my vox but there are issues which i wanna ask about
1.the tornado doesnt hide when put to boot, and it only shows maximum speed of 228 but when i selected 240 or 252 from the vox-oc and rebooted the phone after it tornado showed 228 onlky but tcpmp showed 240mhz processor
do we have to keep vox-oc application running or we can exit after setting the speed
i have noticed increase in performance thnx to u but if one wants to increase than 228 wht can he do??
and at 228 mhz setting it tcpmp showed 220mhz ??
which application can i use to get exact information abt the speed of processor at which its running after over clocking...
1. yeah Tornado keeps running in the background, I am still trying to find a way to run Tornado as a process.
2. You do not need to keep Vox-OC running, its a set and quit application. Try reinstalling both Tornado and Vox-OC (both in device memory). On every start Vox-OC should show the current speed setting.
3. You can set any speed using Vox-OC (be careful above 252Mhz, your device may stop responding).
4. Tcpmp always shows the speed a little less, I guess it is accurate enough. Its normal for the actual speed to be a little less than the overclocking steps.
5. I do not know of any other application that shows the speed
yup i checked the tcpmp speed was less than wht the omap clock was showing..but its fine i dnt think i hve to reinstall the applications again as they both r working fine and vox is faster now..and there is not much difference of speed wht vox-oc and tcpmp is showing that hardly matters
thx for the application...
if possible work on making the tornado go hide...!!
To make Tornado unavailable for the taskmanager simply highlight it in task and on options screen click Exclude. It will dissapear from the list and remain a process. Even after a reboot.
excluding Tornado from taskmanager(using celetask?) will just make it invisible to that application. try using htc task manager it will be still there
we have to find a way to start it as a process
yup we have to search 4 a solution for vox
Works perfectly on my s710! I'm very pleased with the speed, Thanks!
Great App!
Did you found a solution to start it as a process yet?
Would make this program perfect for my Vox!

I searched around and haven't seen a thread about this yet but I think we should look at the slowness of the plugin. I know that on my G4 which was OS flashed to Crossbow it's totally bogged down now. Seen some reports of others. Is this a memory leak or conflict or just a case of code needing to be optimized? I've tried a few different configs so far but can't get past it.
ive noticed the same thing about mine. mines a g3 and it was very fast before but now its slow as heck after i installed the plug in. im not sure how to fix it. just confirming the problem on another phone.

Fine on my hermes too...
small lag on prophet, when i press the softkeys....But overall phone speed is ok!
Processors
Hermes has a 400mhz processor, so it should be ok on there!
However, I have a Wizard, which is only 200mhz, and it is absolutely crawling using this plugin!! But it's (as far as I know) the same processor as the Touch, so what is it that's causing it to run so slowly?

I think the problem is with the access to \windows\ folder, try to open the folder and see how many time it takes...
The only problem I have with that theory, is that I assume the HTC Touch doesn't run this slowly all the time, yet that has the same processor as the Wizard and must have the same amount of files in the Windows foler?
Hermes has a faster processor, and Prophet is probably similar in design to the Touch, so they might mask the problems a bit better than the Wizard I guess. But there must be some way of making it run faster!
Already done it.Without HTC Home Plugin 5- secs, with the plugin 10+... I don't use the weather item,so i'm going to delete the weather pics.... and i will post results...
Same thing...lag... BUT i hard resetted, then installed HTC Home Plugin, and it was running full speed!then installed the HTC Touch pad and lag again....
Lagging on wizard G3
I have a G3 wizard and I'm having an incredible slowdown (both reboot and executions)
I installed the Home plug, comm man, dial pad (directly after the flash) and then installed spb pocketplus and netfront! That's all..
I can access the /windows folder in +/-13 secs
I reverted to my previous backup without the new HTC apps, and WOW!
Windows folder shows up almost instantly. Everything is alot smoother than with the Touch today plugin. But it is uglier as well.
What ROM is everyone using? Has anyone installed this on faria or most beautiful?
I know on Crossbow it slows down with just the today plugin installed.
Homeplug disgustingly slow on prophet here (latest Pdaviet rom, 234mhz), ....And then after I put the touch dialler on as well....Ugh! ...
ended up having to keep soft resetting just to stop unwanted dialling from tapping!
Interesting about the windows folder as for me, xp is taking forever to open this folder too. Looks like a hard reset is due....then I'll try again

In fact, it seems every Touch application (dialer, htc home plugin, maybe even the sound manager?) slows the device a factor, but the home plugin is the worst.
I played with installing and uninstalling them after a hard reset. I agree it seems like the fuller the \Windows folder, the slower the device, but indeed that makes no sense.
Using Faria's latest, err, lets call it "10.1.0.811 WWE" on my Wizard. XM6?

it has tons of pngs that it loads into the /window folder which lead to the explorer taking a lonfg time to open it
Just wanna report the same slowness on my MDA Vario [email protected] wonderfull XM6. But the looks are great, the slowlyness sucks. So does this mean that the plugins have to be optimized or can it be done through the registry?
After hard-reset I installed Dialer, and the phone was sluggish again, even without the today homeplug...
I guess it also has something to do, like already was said, with the graphical aspect of it. Many png's in the windows folder which are loaded for displaying everything that nice.
will one of you see if chabging the attributes of the png (to hidden,system,...) will change anything?

My windows folder is taking 31 sec to load up. I made all png files (about 1.4 meg worth) both hidden and system. Windows folder still takes 30 seconds to load. General responsiveness of the device did seem to get faster but I can't tell if it's that or the fact I flashed the official MS WM6 rom. Seems like since the plugin still references them it's taking up resources. Any way we can pack those into the plugin exe or would placing these in rom or extended rom speed up the process?
The plugin with official wm6 seems faster then xm6. Not talking smack, just an observation. I can't try NBD 7.0 since it won't flash properly but I've heard that's the fastest w/ plugin so far.
I decided to build some custom ROM based on your interest and taste.
I'll consider the flavor if I have a "number of requests" for the same and offcourse it should be manageable .
Cheers
thanx Tomal, it should be great,
i need a rom with empty installation,
example.
No softwares installed in it just WM6.1 with drivers
I need the Diamond DialPad like PDAVIET'sROM. Other, fast and a big FD
Thanks

Thanks a lot Tomal! as always doing the best for all of us!
My request would be a ROM including this:
HTC home without freezing and wheather update working
WM7 theme
Advance config
The best speed as possible!!!
Messenger latest version without windows live
Office mobile
Some finger friendly keyboard
Opera the newest
A nice comm manager
TCPM
The minimal quantity of programs to run well (No games, search, help,
And I think this is not possible but you are the magician: A way to have 850mhz band to connect to 3G (As in Mexico is the band used for 3G)
Thanks a lot!
Cheers
Wow Tomal, that's very considerate of you. I'm sure you're now going to get as many flavours as there are replies!!
I love your v8.0 ROM. I think the only thing I add to your ROM is PocketCM (which I believe can't be added because of updating etc) and GPRS programs (Route66 etc).
However if I go into settings/system/about, I notice the memory differs (the ROM memory, not the free stuff). Why is that? Is is possible to make a ROM with more Memory?

with the last rom....
Cool!
After loading your roms I usually add:
TouchFlo_v1.4.1 + FTouchFloConfig_v0.9 -> without any graphics, i use this to enable finger scroling in all windows apps, like file explorer, comboboxs, lists etc
BatteryStatusExt.1.05 -> i only select the second row (Indicators) to see in the home screen and in windows bar the cpu usage, to know if the universal is working or not , i would like an app that only puts in the windows bar the cpu usage and the ram available (Wasn't that good to have one of our light indicators flashing when our cpu reaches 100%? almost like our PCs with the disk light? This is possible, one program that set the SD card like a usb disk used the lights to show activity...)
PJC_HTCHome -> it's working 100% (including weather) just missing the media player...
SRS_WOWHD_ARM -> tweak universal sound rock/classic etc
I'm happy with the new Windows Media Player in 8.0
I'm not happy with the contact manager, Not finger friendly...
I'm not happy with image viewer... zoom and other iphone capabilities
Happy with TCPMP, Total Comander, WKTask Manager, RegistryEditor, Pocket RAR, Messenger, Adobe Reader, Comm Manager, Advanced Config, Performance, SD Settings, USB to PC, Office, Battery indicator in the top of the screen
WTF do we need Time Sync... doesn't ActiveSync does that??
I often install QuickMenu_en_2.7 but this should be a simpler program
JAVA!!!!
OPERA!!!!
Tweaker for the velocity vs memory problem -> app that sets the pda to work how we need when we need with a simple reboot - is this possible?? (Tweak those memory eating things that makes wm faster, way to choose if we now(via reboot) want more velocity or more ram...)
Video Call (One idea, since we can't have VC in wm6 why not use a rom from wm5 and add the latest things? I know some things come with windows, but we could have a wm5 rom up to date)
One thing I would ask too is a counter of the kbs that we use in gprs/umts, we have a time counter but we are not paying by time but by kbs... (and better better was a way to filter msn traffic since here in Portugal we have free messenger 8) )
I'm happy with the black theme, but yes it would be good to be able to change
All and all I would like a Rom with the least things in RAM but with all the minimum features installed or in cabs (installed if there are tweaks fot them)
The most important thing for me is to use the pda with fingers and without precision so i can use it while walking, riding the train etc
If i remember other thing i'll tell
French Rom plz

I agree.. sorta.
a more vanilla ish rom with nothing except things like tie sync sd settings advanced config arcsoft mms..
that way people can add the things that they want after.. the things I listed are usually needed to set up the device. actully just mms and sd settings are really needed since cabs for everything else exist.. and arcsoft doesn't really like to be installed after the fact.

I also go for the fresh vanilla ROM witht he latest core.

I think it should continue its work with the vc in wm6.x for uni. You do would realize the dream of many.
Thank you.
Clean of any osftware rom :with flashdik , max mem, stable.
Only add SMS,BT,SDHC, cam softwares
And multilanguage if possible
I would be happy with 7.7 minus MyMobiler, WkTask Manager, Bubble Breaker, PIE, WMP and other similarly useless bits and pieces that take space. So yep, 7.7 or 7.8 in vanilla would do me fine. Got everything else in .CABs anyway - Opera, Conduits Player, TouchFlo, All Black .tsk, Diamond apps and now testing SKYPE that works for 8.0 on 7.7.
And, of course, Video Call is on my Christmas wishlist....
Thank You so much, Tomal, love your ROMs. (We need kiss emoticon!)
Raphael is brutally closing programs!
I really dunno why is this happening... I have 50% of RAM free and it lets me run just 3-4 programs together. When I run one more... it occasionally selects one thats previously ran and kills it silently... I really wouldn't like to "Clear Storage" from settings
I also had this problem when I first got my TP. It's a simple fix - you need to disable AutoKill. With a registry editor, go to HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager, and change the value of “EnableAutoKill” to “0".
^ yes this a good fix. I remember I couldnt switch between opera and replying to a text message, I felt like I was back to a feature phone, with one thing at a time capability.
There is also a registry tweak that instead of killing apps you can change the threshold at which the system starts auto-killing, same registry path.
You guys are amazing! THANK YOU! BUT... I still have the problem
Any other ideas?
You can refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426585
In the section of "Tips", there is a tweak which solved the problem perfectly
Thank you. Tried that caches tweak, it made whole system run much faster. But still - i cannot seem to get 4 proggies to run at the same time. Always the first dies... flip flop

Please help me out.

1) The HTC Task Manager registry tweaks
2) The cache sizes maximizing

Maybe the ugly 32MB/32Process limit (http://msmobiles.com/F/viewtopic.php?p=36334&highlight=&sid=c6b5982e059ec35ce19fd3cd952bd683) is still present in WinMo6.1?
Hello!
OMFG! After disabling autokill my TP started to act almost like desktop in case of multitasking
I was able to run around 12 programs at a time, but i've also made changes to memorytreshold, the value i set was 173015040 (1.5 times the default value).
The funny thing was that TP was still responsive to commands and even opera ran smoothly when surfing throu light web pages.
First app closed after memory usage peeked around 65%, but the rest was still responsive.
Hope this helps
BHole
Thats my point. Same limit like 65% because I have customized my device with launchers, hardkey remapper, Wktask etc. Now I can have (only) five apps running at a time... Is there a sort of free RAM threshold inside the WM6 or HTC-s stock (1.9) ROM. Maybe it is still the 32 process limit from the old times?
Hello!
It looks like there is some kind of limit to number of proceses or memory used by them but if you customized your pda maybe you should disable some of the oryginal programs that are runing in the background. I saw some registry entries in taks manager that hid some of the runing aps maybe not all of them are nesesery for you and can be disabled to lower proces count.
BHole
Yeah.. but I would like to USE the RAM the device has.... I'd like to run manymany programs so the RAM load would be for example 95%. Why is not that possible?
hi there...am a big fan of the vox....but the problem that i face after say 2-3 days of continuous use is the memory leak. it has abt 22 mb free when i soft reset, but after this time, has less than 10 mb remaining. i shut down programs regularly, use the hibernate function on smart toolkit, and i use sk tools lite to use the memory free function. could anyone solve this problem? i read somewhere that a rom upgrade may solve this issue. tried the htc website, it says the rom upgrade is not suitable for my device. can someone help? someone like dr. martin gonzo or frauhottellmann? r u there? my device details are below
CE OS 5.2.1236
Radio 4.1.13.41_02.88.90
ril version 2.002
Pls tell me which ROM is the most stable, if i need to update any thing else too that is available on this forum/ I have photo contacts pro v 5.05 andfacade 1.4.10 running in the background.
Oh i forgot. I use smart toolkit too
The ROM is 5.2.1236.17741
I would prefer a light ROM, as I dont use word mobile. I have documents to go instead.

Search for PIM backup, that is a software which back up all your PIM information to Storage card, or whatever folder you wish. No flashing will not delete anything from the storage card. But be sure that you are not using Encryption on the SD Card.
thats ok...i have sprite backup with my phone. will have to reinstall it though/
my question is....is a fullback up necessary or will an outlook sync be enough? when i reconnect after the flash, active sync will set up a partnership again right? will that delete all the outlook data stored on my comp or will my comp refill the pim data back on to my device? thats what i want to know.
also, will the new rom significantly alter my battery life? am a doctor, and it may not be possible for me to keep charging my mobile when i am on rounds and so on
one more doubt, addicted2xda. will flashing one of these custom roms solve the memory leak issue? its driving me crazy. cant go 3 days without doing a hard reset. and how much will teh free memory be with say, fireburned lite rom?
Well after a couple of days you will of course have less RAM available. You always have to close apps in the task manager and use some RAM-free-up app! I use the function of sktools lite!

yes boss...i use sk tools lite too. but it doesnt make too significant a difference, with the end result that after say 3-4 days, memory dips to less than 8 MB, and voila! my phone hangs!
am now trying out fireburned's lite rom, seems good for now. lets see! any further ideas to minimise the ram leak?
Use the taskmanager - as frauhottelman said already - to identify the processes that grow over time. You can use the built-in, just change the view to "process" and sort by memory. WMPlayer or Audiomanager are memory hogs from my experience.
For debugging you may also want to execute "devicehealth.exe". This will create a decent summary of memory consumption to the root (or card-root). You may have to search for it (in the forum or or the web). It is a tiny tool from the SDK afaik.

have been using fireburned's rom, seems pretty stable. however, after doing a sync with active sync, the memory which was say 17 mb, dips to 14 mb or less. any hibernate function or say, the task manager or even the sk tools function brings it back to only about 15 mb or a little marginally higher. the more times i use activesync, the same problem occurs. say i use it three times, the memory lands up around 12 mb, after all programs have been shut down. and after using the hibernate function on smart toolkit. any ideas? did a search and found that it s a process called gwes.exe which hogs memory mostly. but this is guess is a system process and cant be shut down i suppose. any suggestions? ur take on this, frauhottellmann?
Still problem not solved!
hmm..tried using the ram free function on sktools. seems to actually decrease the amount of ram available!!! and with each use of active sync, the available ram decreases sharply. my wife has an imate spl, and the amount of ram remains constant around 25MB even after 10 days....anyone have any ideas? have read somewhere that it is a problem peculiar to vox. the problem with decreasing ram is, after 3-4 days, the dialler starts malfunctioning. i am able to make out the calls ringing, but no way i can pick itup. max, i can cut the call. it registers as a missed call....any body with any ideas out there? any way to cut the ram leak?
one more doubt,,,the old sk tools had an optimize wizard. the latest one seems to be lacking this feature. is there anyway that the active sync filesystem can be made read-only ?
Pretty strange. Are you using any third party software that may be causing the problem? Also note that after using activesync, it doesn't shutdown on its own. You have to manually shut it down to release the memory. Further try using the default home screen, instead of the sliding panel which comes with new 6.1 ROMs.
Because I normally have more than 20 MB free . No matter how long I have kept my device on.
Or better still, just reboot the device before going to bed .
yeah. i use photocontacts pro and smart toolkit in addition to microsoft voice command. and is it a good idea to keep rebooting the device daily? i thought the rom upgrade was supposed to fix that!and i love the sliding panels. the default homescreeen sucks

Sliding panel really drains the battery like hell. Its not a problem if you reboot your ROM daily. I flash my device (both), well almost once a week atleast . So that requires rebooting as well. I really don't know whats wrong, but I never had the RAM issue, try fireburned Clean ROM or fraun's lite ROM for a change and see if you find any difference
I have same problem with my htc vox
I have tried all the known proxy tweaks to release memory on Sprints new rom and non of them seem to work.
Does anyone know of any other tweaks I can make to force Sense 2.5 to release more memory? my phone hovers at 75-80 % after a full day of use. And i hate that it closes my programs when it reaches around 85 or 90%.
So i can't have Kinoma and Opera open at the same time, it just gets to me!!! aggghH!!!
Have you tried this? It needs to be done on a fresh install.

I installed those cabs already but they don't clear up any memory, they just delete some of the bloatware and a few power save tweaks.
Thank you guys for your help, I'll just use Titanium until someone finds a fix for this. Too bad because I love sense 2.5 but not so fond of it on the TP2.
You might have to lower the windows cache size. HTC music, HTC messaging and a couple other programs cache your files to load quickly. I've noticed that some programs especially hurt my RAM performance (Lock Device and Dusk Theme made me idle around 66%+, without them I idle at 55%).
Have you ever tried using a program like Cleanram to clear up memory when it gets too full?
oxios, works like a charm

oxios, excellent program. never an issue.
Free up memory
Just in case you need help finding a link to download cleanram follow this thread...

[APP]htcAddicts - cleanRAM v2.1 (RAM Cleaner)
Also in the sprint stock 6.5 rom there is a program task manager, I keep this on my quicklinks because often when you close the program it is infact not fully closed. Just remember to check your task manager periodicially because you will be suprised to see how many programs are actually running after you closed them. Clean Ram also helps tremendously with freeing up memory.
However, even with this the weather in the sense 2.5 still seems to be running sluggishly with the htc clock as well. If you still want to see the weather at a faster (normal) rate keep your quicklinks up instead of having the htc clock up. I found that my tp2 runs faster like this. Hope this can help!

Reset phone twice a day then! With the latest sense2.5 and everything, it does take about 80% of memory all the time.

My MightyRom idles at 61-63% with everything cached. I can run multiple programs and it handles it quite well. I hit 75% with opera, gmaps and coreplayer open.

Well mightyROM file size is about 175MB, whereas sprintROM is about 250MB, which tells me that mightys will have lot less programs than sprintROM, which explains why there is so much free memory!
The leaner the ROM, more free memory you get.

ROM and RAM shouldn't affect each other like that (unless sprint includes that bloatware in windows start up, in which case you should disable it to lower running %s). Obviously I haven't tested the sprint ROM, but i'm sure there are tweaks to help bring down those %s.
