I have a BT Mobile branded HTC S710 and want to flash it with the generic ROM.
I went to the HTC.com site to obtain this (from here: http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=8&cat=2&dl_id=16), but it asks for your device's serial number before it'll let you download, and reports "invalid serial number" so won't let me download. This is apparently some agreement BT had with HTC to prevent you from obtaining the generic ROM and getting rid of their rubbish one.
I've had a look on this site for generic ROMS, but can only find non-English generic versions of the Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM, so I need help locating a UK English version of the generic ROM if anyone has any ideas?
Although I'm an IT Teccie, I'm new to ROM flashing, so your help is really appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Trying to Flash the Official HTC WM 6.1 RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.02.405.0_radio_sign_25.70.30.05_1.58.26.20
on the HTC TyTn II bought from Hong Kong throught Vista and it still gives me the Vendor ID Error.
What do i do? how do i flash? HTC rom does not flash on a HTC Device? CID Unlock?
Thanks
Have you been able to flash any other roms in the past?
If no, go to the Kaiser Wiki and read every piece of information available on flashing custom ROMs.
If yes, then your issue could be related to ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center and USB connections. However, most likely the issue is caused by your device not being CID unlocked.
Ultimately, I would suggest visiting the Wiki and doing a lot of research.
Hi Thanks for the reply
i have flash a lot of roms on my hermes by flashing hardspl and stuff but i fail to understand that how can a rom released by HTC for the kaiser fail to flash on its own device?

Since none of the developers here made the HTC ROM, this might be a question you should address HTC on, or forums meant for official HTC support.
These forums are really meant towards development of new applications and ROM's. However, the developers can only support the ROM's they created.
nvalid vendor id thats mean u need to flash HARD-spl
Old topic. Doesn't need resurecting as it offers no constructive content.

I found an interesting offer on ebay for an HTC Touch Cruise, but the Windows Mobile installed on it is in German. Would it be possible to remove the German version and install a French or English version instead ?
Yes you can. Flash a ROM with your language of choice. You might also have to HardSPL first. Search the forums.
Thank you very much. So i will try to buy it and change the ROM.
You're welcome. I am assuming that the phone you found was an unbranded one since you said HTC Touch Cruise. In that case you can always pick up the official HTC WWE ROM (English) for the device. For non-HTC specific ROMS you will need to HardSPL.

can i just install a generic pack? i am retiring my iPaq hw6965 to my brother who wants to read chinese websites. i don't want to flash the rom as i am not that fluent in reading chinese but would like to add a pack so when he surfs on opera or pie, chinese characters comes up.
any support for this? found a site but the download packs are not available.
Sorry all but....
I am simply trying to find out how to flash my HTC TYTN II from Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5. The only thing I have sucessfully managed to do so far was to re-flash the orginal ROM the phone shipped with from the HTC web site. Is it a problem with my phone or is the HTC ROM update program user friendly in some way (looks identical!?) that no others here would seem not to be? I have read no end of programs that seem to need to be used or installed on the PC and\or phone but no clear set of end to end instructions when using the images from here!? I have tried 4 or 5 different ones and all lose connectivity as soon as the program starts to try and flash my phone. Fortunately pulling the battery and powering back up restores normal functionality. This leads to my final question please. Do HTC write user friendly ROM update software for their devices that work without anything else needed where no else seems to or am I missing something? If nothing else assuming I need to this manually could someone please point me to where I can finda full set of instructions please?
What other than updates that simply seem no to work on my phone am I missing soemthing. I am even more seriously considering the Nokia N97 now as Symbian updates are simple to apply and work out the box! Not like these nightmares it would seem!
Many thanks in advance.

Paul L

Good luck,
WM 6.5 has been announced but not officially released, so there is no HTC update. I don't know what you have been trying to download.
The only 6.5 roms available are cooked roms derived from leaked betas of WM 6.5 or roms derived from M$ development tools packages. So if you want an HTC/M$ 6.5 rom, you are out of luck, because it does not exist.
If you want to " unlock your phone and flash one of the many great custom 6.5 roms, then start here

I have AT&T Tilt, barely used, Cant get help to upgrade from manufacturer no longer support. Can you please tell me what upgrade is available and instructions on how to install. Thanks very much Lost.
HTC have posted official ROM updates for a few European countries here: http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=267&cat=2&dl_id=633
Unfortunately, they require a serial number to download. Could someone kind provide the Swiss or Austrian ROM, or alternately a valid serial number that will permit the download? It'd be greatly appreciated, as I'd like to get my hands on the German locale files/dictionaries. Thanks.
Updated ROM installs 'perfect' SPL
I have gone through updating my Magic with the upated original HTC ROM, I will try to post the file later. Be aware that it installs a perfect SPL version, which means you cannot flash your Magic anymore with any custom ROM etc. Or only via going through a complicated Goldcard procedure.
I tried every where however I do not find the original latest HTC TYTN II 6.1 rom. Can anyone help me out on this?
