ION won't flash on HK Magic - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Hi i'm wondering why ION won't flash on my HK Magic, is it something with hardware different? as far as i know that Haykuro magic root does not work on my phone. So i use daldroid and BAM i got it root.
Is there anyway to make all build compatible for all magic sold worldwide?
Is it somthing with HBOOT or SPL we can fix later?

Hi, I have a Magic Taiwan version, and I'm trying toy have it rooted.
So you use the recovery img from daldroid and what root img to root?
thx

Hi, is there a way to have it rooted and keep the original rom I have now?
thx

I use daldroid for fastboot and flash mod image.
Then apply Haykuro SPL update follow by Haykuro root access, push modified su with adb push to the system

WARNING: the original SPL for your rom is newer than the modded one.
Your radio too. Someone reported it works on newer devices, but you'll not be able to restore the original as we don't have a copy.
My post reports that the daldroid rom has adb shell root access, You don't need to flash any other image (BOOT.img nor SPL) to be able to push the su file.
adb remount
adb push ....

You cannot use nandroid to backup the SPL.
I didn't find info on the correct way (if any available) to get the spl image dumping the rom.
If no way available, we'll have to way for an OTA update from htc including SPL and radio rom images.

Restore factory ROM

OK i'm going to flash with the Rogers ROM but I am unsure how to flash back to the factory Voda UK image if I dont like it.
I have rooted the device and have 2 backups on SD card of the current system. However when I download the Rogers ROM it is a zip file install but the backup is a bunch of image files. How would I install the default system back onto the device using these image files?
I just need to know how to get back before moving away
Thanks in advance
Mark
You update the rom with the ZIP-file named as update.zip.
If you want to revert back to your backup, power off the device, boot with BACK+POWER or VOLUME DOWN+POWER and type the following:
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Thanks, i'm guessing this is on my PC that I did the rooting on through cmd, is that correct?
Will those .img files need to be on the root of the SD card as well?
Cheers

Hello Mark
No. They are only on your SD-card in the folder Nandroid/HTxxxxxx/date and you need to copy/put them in the SDK/TOOLS on your PC.
OK thanks for the info, just flashing the Rogers ROM now, fingers crossed

Haven't looked at Rogers. French ROM is rooted, has inbuilt utilities such as wifi-tether, anetshare, PDF Viewer, Quickoffice, Meteo, Useful Switchers. All very easy and no problems.

The update on the link re-roots the device is that correct?

Am sorry but don't fully understand the ins and outs of Rooting and then Unrooting again. All I was offering was info on the original files that were presumably removed when you Rooted your phone.
There is also the original SPL now available - posted here

OK
As i wont be the last to ask how to get back to a factory device, I have put all of your comments an suggestions into one file which is attached.
Hopefully this will become a guide for all future users to follow if they want to go back to the factory image on a UK Vodafone Magic.
Could you kindly read through the instructions and leave feedback for me.

I have had a quick look through your guide although not tried it out. It is good. Only a minor observation that the spelling of "origional" should be "original" all the way through the file.
Thaks for the pointer on the typo, copy and paste job, you got me on that one
Hi,
I followed your instructions and now my phone is stuck on the vodafone screen.
I get these errors in the process:
me$ ./fastboot erase system -w
ERROR: could not get pipe properties
erasing 'system'... OKAY
erasing 'userdata'... OKAY
have i bricked my phone?
any advice?!
It will boot to recovery and the fastboot screens.
Does that mean its fixable?

How to gain root access to google ion rom?

I'm have the original ION phone with Ion Rom...
But from what i search from wiki to forum's here, mostly I see is reflashing the whole rom to get root access..
is it possible to get the root access on the rom I have now rather than reflashing it?
This is what I have right now in my phone:
HBoot-1.33.3004 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Yes this is possible.
1. Download a rooted recovery image (recovery.img) with nandroid support.
2. Switch your ion to fastboot mode.
3. Execute "Fastboot boot recovery.img" (this will not flash the recovery to your Ion, it will just load it).
4. perform a nandroid backup.
5. unpack the boot.img you find in the nandroid directory on your sdcard.
6. change the ro.secure property and repack the boot.img.
7. flash the rooted boot.img image to your ion.
So the instruction mention is the same as the one posted on wiki?

No, it's not the same, with the instructions on the wiki your are overwriting your ROM with a different one... so you basically undo the ion rom.
Im very new to this, do you mind bring me throught the how process?
I have just went ahead to try that process..(as i thought its just bascially rooting the magic with the recovery rom and ended up on a boot loop)

Thank you Amon_RA!
Hello,
Just got a google ion. Originally followed the instructions in the link above about rooting an htc magic... which allowed me to put haykuro's rootme on. Everything works fine now, I have root (I was able to add new fonts as su). However I do not have a superuser app--- and I am a bit confused about who I receive updates from now. I have read that jf1.5 does not work on this phone.
I did not need to unpack any .img files.
I have a recovery where I can flash new update.zip files, do nandroid backups, etc.
Can anyone fill me in on where I can get a superuser app, who should I receive updated update.zip fles from, etc?
The ion rom that is floating around installs but wifi doesn't work, so I'm back at rootme.zip.

I followed the wiki and had ROOT and Hard SPL but the rom was unchanged
When you had root, were you able to install the superuser app or a rom with it?

I have the original Ion as well. The way I rooted my phone was by followed an excellent written tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w_Iyv7wctA (in the upper right hand corner click more details. Then after step step 17 or so continue from the guide on http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
Great for noobs like me, wouldn'nt have known the commands to put into prompt up to that point and from other guides was not clear if I was supposed to input from phone terminal or prompt on PC but the combination of these two guides helped me get my phone rooted and now I have been trying out the french ROMS 1.8/1.9 and Nok2's V4 full, which is great.

Mojo, if the root process is done by unpacking and repacking the boot.img you won't alter the original rom so all the features will be untouched.
I've complete the root process on my original ION, if you need any help... post in this threath...
The manual total-geek method on N1?
Yes, I am aware of superboot. downloaded it. Looked at it, and noticed it was an image.
I am one of the weird ones that would rather do this process with the least disruption of the stock bits as possible, or at least know exactly what this image modifies. And while I could be totally blind, I didn't see this listed in my Googling.
I tried the procedure for the ION in this thread and it appears that the Nexus One does something different (maybe an extra checksum check??). Note: I also do have an ION and this procedure worked - so it appears that the procedure is known.
Any further information either about how to modify the appropriate images manually or a description of what the superboot image actually plays with?
Thanks!
I too have a ION and if 2.1 doesn't hit soon I want to root. I am confused. Can someone just post the instructions in order with out having to got a billion links to get the next step.

Android 2.0 - System.Img to Update.Zip

Hi!
I have installed the new SDK and I want to know what if it's possible to convert System.Img to Update.Zip?
After this can I install it on my 32A?
What I need to do to add more aplications?
Basically I want to use the clean android img and install on my 32A!
I already brick a phone doing this. It's possible bricking only flashing system?

use it with fastboot to install. but then again why not wait till htc devsite is updated with flashable package!
this cannot take more then few days when they updated it.

Only because my phone it's Vodafone branded so the release will be:
1 Week HTC -> 1 Year Vodafone
With luck I will have this update in 1 year ;-)
My question it's just that? FastBoot? And if it fails? What happen?

if fails restore nandroid backup. if you made one.
if you want to experiment with fastboot install:
use these fastboot commands to flash the uncompressed files to the device:
$ ./fastboot flash boot boot.img
$ ./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
$ ./fastboot flash system system.img
•Reboot the device.
my magic was a vodafone branded too. i flashed to developer spl and now able to flash directly to htc dev firmwares. my magic is now seen as an google ion device.
you may use unyaffs from here http://code.google.com/p/unyaffs/
extract the files and make a flashable update.zip.
There is also a thread on this for 1.6. I think it should work the same way for 2.0. Or just wait for a XDA-Developer to make an easy update.zip...
Ok. But If for some reason fails? Can I acess to fastboot pressing power + back?
Since I´m only flashing System Its possible brick my phone?

there is one solution for this. just wait it out till it's released in flashable form.
if you are not sure what you're doing then don't try no offence but best way to avoid bricks is not to experiment.

The rom in the dream forum works, ish. Data will work once APN is setup, calls and SMS work, as does contact sync, but no google apps as yet, no market etc no wifi no bluetooth.

[DUMP] Official Singapore Sense 32A

Hi all,
I've downloaded the RUU and have uploaded the RUU, as well as the images within it.
RUU:
http://rapidshare.com/files/3053191...E_3.03.707.5_R_SG_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
boot.img, recovery.img, splash1_HTC_Magic.nb0, system.img, userdata.img (I know some of these are not needed but I'm just posting things as they are, the original name was rom1.zip):

http://rapidshare.com/files/305301844/other_imgs.zip
And yes, you can use the RUU directly but your radio will be overwritten. This is more for the devs/cooks!
failed to unyaffs system.img..when unyaffs to "system/libs",it crashed...sobbing..
Hi, would it be possible to update my radio only? How would I do that?
Replace the radio.img into a zip file with the proper xml and directories and name it as update.zip ?

Wysie,
Thanks for the dumps. I don't use Windows and I had no access to the contents of the RUU without your dumps.
For the life of me, I can't figure out why companies like HTC which use Free/Open Source Software like Linux don't make their update tools to run on Linux.

the image file is as big as a hero image, wouldn't fit into you system partition. RUU changes partitioning on the phone to make system bigger as in Hero.
We need to find out how to change the size of a partition in Magic by Hand!

I'm hoping that some developer give us this rom with the radio version and everything but with root...
HTC just released the ROM for other Countrys (Indonesia, Malaysia & Vietnam) but i doubt that there are differences to the Singapore ROM.

From what I've read on ezterry's post buddy I think you just need to flash the orange nbh file, but let me have a look and I'll report back.

orange.nbh file is for G1 only, for MT3G you should use SAPPIMG.nbh instead. Please read in more details the original post of ezterry
Thanks for your help... but it doesn't always boot
I tried everything, but I had an idea... I can push files in the system,cache,... partitions.
Then, where can I find these files : /system/bin/sh and /system/bin/flash_image ?
I already tried to send these via adb, but it gice me an error (20) when I try to boot system.....
anyone have an idea ?
Quick question, when flashing the orange.nbh can you boot the g1 normally or do you have to flash the dream.nbh next? Just wanted to know cuz I'm curious to see what happens
Sent from my HTC Dream
Yes !
I recovered my phone. I used a goldcard with a sappimg.nbh.
I flashed it in fastboot (hboot mode)
All right !
Thanks a lot
