Restore factory ROM

OK i'm going to flash with the Rogers ROM but I am unsure how to flash back to the factory Voda UK image if I dont like it.
I have rooted the device and have 2 backups on SD card of the current system. However when I download the Rogers ROM it is a zip file install but the backup is a bunch of image files. How would I install the default system back onto the device using these image files?
I just need to know how to get back before moving away

You update the rom with the ZIP-file named as update.zip.
If you want to revert back to your backup, power off the device, boot with BACK+POWER or VOLUME DOWN+POWER and type the following:
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot

Thanks, i'm guessing this is on my PC that I did the rooting on through cmd, is that correct?
Will those .img files need to be on the root of the SD card as well?

Hello Mark
No. They are only on your SD-card in the folder Nandroid/HTxxxxxx/date and you need to copy/put them in the SDK/TOOLS on your PC.

How do you like the French rom? Compared to Rogers? It dosen´t have Exchange?

Haven't looked at Rogers. French ROM is rooted, has inbuilt utilities such as wifi-tether, anetshare, PDF Viewer, Quickoffice, Meteo, Useful Switchers. All very easy and no problems.

Ok are you saying that I need to reflash the origional image files using the info above and then run in this update to put the vodafone magic back to its origional state.
The update on the link re-roots the device is that correct?

Missed your other point - it does not have Exchange. I on the other hand do not need it. Google sync works great for me.

Am sorry but don't fully understand the ins and outs of Rooting and then Unrooting again. All I was offering was info on the original files that were presumably removed when you Rooted your phone.
There is also the original SPL now available - posted here

Hopefully this will become a guide for all future users to follow if they want to go back to the factory image on a UK Vodafone Magic.

I have had a quick look through your guide although not tried it out. It is good. Only a minor observation that the spelling of "origional" should be "original" all the way through the file.

I followed your instructions and now my phone is stuck on the vodafone screen.
I get these errors in the process:
me$ ./fastboot erase system -w
ERROR: could not get pipe properties
erasing 'system'... OKAY
erasing 'userdata'... OKAY
have i bricked my phone?
any advice?!

It will boot to recovery and the fastboot screens.
Does that mean its fixable?

Should I need to flash userdata partition?
The official rom should not include userdata, right?

ION won't flash on HK Magic

Hi i'm wondering why ION won't flash on my HK Magic, is it something with hardware different? as far as i know that Haykuro magic root does not work on my phone. So i use daldroid and BAM i got it root.
Is there anyway to make all build compatible for all magic sold worldwide?
Is it somthing with HBOOT or SPL we can fix later?

Then apply Haykuro SPL update follow by Haykuro root access, push modified su with adb push to the system

WARNING: the original SPL for your rom is newer than the modded one.
Your radio too. Someone reported it works on newer devices, but you'll not be able to restore the original as we don't have a copy.
My post reports that the daldroid rom has adb shell root access, You don't need to flash any other image (BOOT.img nor SPL) to be able to push the su file.
adb remount
adb push ....

Thanks daldroid, i still have nandroid backup with me. But not sure which one is the original SPL that i can flash it back on. Can you help me out or is it not be able to backup by nandroid

You cannot use nandroid to backup the SPL.
I didn't find info on the correct way (if any available) to get the spl image dumping the rom.
If no way available, we'll have to way for an OTA update from htc including SPL and radio rom images.

Yes, you can.

You can but you will get the perfect spl as well.

i have perfect spl anyway on high built (2.56.415.5) so i guess i can't root my magic anyway .. all i am worried about is the Arabic font .. can i inject it later ?

I am an Android app developer. I just tried using RUU to flash the image with out noticing it has perfected SPL etc....
Now, I am not able to go back to 1.6 custom AmonRA's image..

For the life of me, I can't figure out why companies like HTC which use Free/Open Source Software like Linux don't make their update tools to run on Linux.

the image file is as big as a hero image, wouldn't fit into you system partition. RUU changes partitioning on the phone to make system bigger as in Hero.
We need to find out how to change the size of a partition in Magic by Hand!

It seems you are right, I was able to install non-senseui roms quite easily using the method described in 1st post. How to increase the size of system partition Hmmmmmm!!!

I'm hoping that some developer give us this rom with the radio version and everything but with root...

HTC just released the ROM for other Countrys (Indonesia, Malaysia & Vietnam) but i doubt that there are differences to the Singapore ROM.

My phone doesn't prurpose me OTA update, so I tried to update my phone (who was in 2.3.3 stock rom, and after did a nandroid backup) with this file :

My phone stay in 2.3.3 SFR Rom but with an old version of Hboot (1.17.0005)
With this version of Hboot, impossible to Unlock bootloader with revolutionary because Hboot is not compatible and impossible to flash recovery...
So, I tried to intall this file :

Just before try the first Update, I did a backup (nandroid backup) of my phone with clockworkmod. So, I have in my computer the original version of the phone in Clockworkmod folder. There is 7 files :

boot.img
cache.img
data.img
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.img
(1 more file in download folder : -2110140792 and 1 other file : .settings)
Problem : I can't install clockworkmod with this version of HBoot (or I don't found who to do that)
Is it possible to use those files without clockworkmod for put my phone in original configuration?
I try to flash boot.img with adb (flashboot flash boot d:boot.img, boot. img is the nandroid backup file), it's doesn't work (FAILED : remote: signature verify fail)
I try to flash recovery.img with adb (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, (recovery. img is the nandroid backup file), it's doesn't work (FAILED : remote: signature verify fail)
So, I don't know what I can do more... Is there someone who can help me for put my phone in original version?

are your files compressed into a .zip? or are the saved as seperate files? make sure to compress your files into a .zip in order to flash.
im a little confused to what your trying to do exactly. are you trying to s-off but cant because of your software version?

It was a nandroid backup, so the files are in différents folders, but no compressed

I tried but it's Doesn't work... In fact, it's normal because I'm not root... So I can't install busybox (need for use 4ext)
And I can't root my phone because I have 1.17.0005 S-ON version of bootloader... and that is the problem...

I tried 2 solutions :

Ok when you compress you don't have to name it update.zip or pg58 file.
Just compress and place in you clockworkmod/backups then in recovery volume down to backup/restore and find your file you placed and select yes. That's how you restore your backup check back with me

Unfortunaltly, I haven't got clockworkmod recovery on my phone. But only stock recovery (who seem doesn't work...)
Because I have the version 1.17.0005 of bootloader, I can't install it...
So, I there an other solution for use those files?
Or is there an other solution for install clockworkmod on my phone or root my phone??

Finaly, I found alone the solution for solve my problem.
My problem was :
- An old hboot version (1.17.0005) was installed on my phone after used an old vodafone's RUU (1.23.163.1) found on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
- With 1.17.0005 hboot version, it was impossible to use revolutionary.io for tuen S-OFF the HTC Sensation
- Impossible to install an other version of Vodafone's RUU
- Impossible to install an other recovery
Solution :
- After a long time, I found on japanese site this official RUU (stock rom SFR/Vodafone FR 2.3.3) : RUU_Pyramid_Vodafone_FR_1.24.163.1_Radio_10.39.9007.00P_10.11.9007.09_M2_release_190763_signed.exe
- I install it and after that, my hboot was in 1.17.0006 version!
- So, I can use revolutionnary for S-OFF my phone, root itand be super CID!
I wasted long time for found this RUU, so, I uploaded it on filefactory. For download it : RUU_Pyramid_Vodafone_FR_1.24.163.1_Radio_10.39.9007.00P_10.11.9007.09_M2_release_190763_signed.exe

The script for permissions runs either every few hours or everyday. Wait till it updates your permissions.

need help with sensation :(

haii there, my sensation with adhr started doing weird yesterday:crying: so i decided to flash a new rom, viper, and that went good, but it didnt boot, so i flashed it again, same problem so i flashed cm9 just now, and that isnt booting either, so i think my phone is oretty messed up, since most of the roms i tried wont boot up. i made a backup of my adhr rom, but i cant flash it, and i dont know how to. i`m s-on with htcdev unlocked, i cant find my md5 anywhere. i really dont know what to do, it seems to be really hard with this phone -.- . so can anybody please help me ???? thanks for reading :laugh:

If you are s-on , after flashing the rom through recovery , u need to reboot into bootloader and extract the zip rom file and select the boot.img and copy it to the folder where your fastboot and adb tools are located ..then open cmd
and run "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
it will surely fix it friend
