multi-touch - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

New to HTC Magic. Is multi-touch available either ota or as an upgrade. How easy is it? will it brick myphone?
thanks
J

Some custom ROMs (including Haykuro's 6.0) have limited multi-touch, but it's a hack and not supported outside the browser and google maps. I don't think it works as smoothly as on the iPhone, either.

Rom request

I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do or the right place to put it... but here goes.
This might just be me, but everywhere i look people are are offering roms with super apps preloaded, fonts and themes, stuff i never knew existed and so on built into the rom version so when people like me download and flash it, we get a million things included without asking for it!
So hows about a simple, no frills, nothing special, plane jane old rom developed from the newest android platform with all the go0gle goodies (gmail, maps, nav, messaging, market, Car home, calendar, browser etc.) preloaded but nothing else? No skins or themes, no developer tools or additional OEM stuff like Vodafone, Motorola apps and so on.
Of course there will have to be multi lingual support for our foreign friends and apps like market and maps have to be locale-unlocked so we can use them no matter where our geological position may be.
I hope its not a huge ask, and i'm not saying the developers out there who are providing roms ATM are useless, (their quite talented and gifted at what they do) it's just asking if anyone out there will put their hand up and say; "I'll give that a shot in my spare time" and provide us with something a little bit different and more basic for the users who dont want all the special features.
I'd donate for that!
If there is such a rom... please post a link! If theres no such thing... give it a go! If this is just a ridiculous ask... my apologies in advance
Probably the two 'cleanest' roms I've come across would have to be:
for 32A/B: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
for 32B: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566676
besides some modifications and dev tools, these two roms are probably the lightest, fastest and latest 1.6 donut (with everything 100% working, unlike camera and sync problems on 2.0).

Sprint Hero - finally a BT keyboard driver that works!

There have been a couple of 3rd party BT keyboard drivers released that apparently enable BT keyboard compatibility for most Android devices, but for some reason none of them have worked with our Sprint Hero's, until now...
The developer of the KeyPro driver app has just released a new beta version that finally works with the Sprint Hero running 2.1 ROMs (not sure about stock 1.5) and while there seem to be a few bugs it is very functional (at least with my Freedom Universal Keyboard 2): http://mymobilegear.com/showthread.php?t=13734
I know there's a small audience for this, but I figure those who have been needing this functionality will be very pleased to know that a solution is finally here.
nice to know, Would still like to be able to text and view my phone book via my garmin 660 when im not using google navigation
this is good news!
now we just need BT print drivers
BT Keyboard
Excellent! If people only knew what they could do with their Hero... Thanks to those involved in Dev and finding this.
I just really can't justify spending 80 bucks on a keyboard for my phone....
It has its uses...

root HTC Hero with original 2.1 (Nordic user) ?

Hi,
HTC Hero users have finally (after many months of promises) got the official Android 2.1.
I downloaded and installed it just couple of hours ago.
The problem I'm facing is support for some asian languages which is missing from all android os versions.. my friends who are using iphone have no problems whatsoever with any languages while I'm unable to read content on certain websites. this is really irritating.
I'm not a big tech guru and I realize that android 2.1 on hero is a pretty new thing.
Is there anybody out there who has managed to root it?
NB! the only thing I'm looking for is a file access so that I can overwrite system fonts like DroidSans.ttf. I don't want to touch the ROM otherwise.
thanks in advance,
Norwegian HTC Hero user

Nokia SU-8W bluetooth keyboard on the HTC DESIRE

Can anyone help me on bluetooth keyboard configuration for HD DESIRE?
Even with the software it just JP Blue Keyboard connects but does not type.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
What rom are you using? Afaik sense breaks hid support. Try an aosp rom if your using a sense rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm using the original ROM. I would not change.
It has no application to help you set up?
It won't work full stop with an original sense rom. It just doesn't support bluetooth HID but an aosp based rom does.
BlueInput from Teksoft
Hi marcionavarro,
Did you try the BlueInput app? It's a driver app for many bluetooth devices. I've tried it with the SU-8W and Nexus S. Works flawlessly.

Just tried BlueInput 1.8 but still no joy with my Think Outside/iGo BT keyboard. I've been trying this since Christmas.
The fundamental problem is with HTC having installed an incomplete Bluetooth stack (see BlueInput for Android manual on Teksoft website - sorry not allowed to post hyperlink). To be fair Teksoft seem to be aware of the problem and seem to be trying to fix it. The HTC Desire is such a popular phone it should be able to connect with a BT keyboard without flashing the ROM. Let's hope BlueInput 1.9 due this month will work!
By now I hope to no avail. I can not configure my Bluetooth keyboard.
I renew my request for any friend help me.
As I tried to explain in my post on 18th Feb, the problem is with the HTC version of Android OS which doesn't support the HID profile used by a lot of Bluetooth keyboards. I've been trying to find a solution since I got my HTC Desire. The only possibility (without flashing ROMs) at present AFAIK is to get a BT keyboard which uses the SPP profile which the HTC Sense ROM does support. The Freedom Pro keyboard is switchable between HID and SPP and has Android drivers available. The technical support at Freedom Pro say that they believe their keyboards do work with the HTC Desire. I'm reluctant to buy a new keyboard so I'm still hoping that BlueInput can sort out a solution for HID keyboards. I don't think HTC are going to do anything about their firmware but maybe an upgrade of their version of Android will fix this?
By now I hope to no avail. I can not configure my Bluetooth keyboard.

I've tried everything. Blueinput, JP BlueKeyboard and nothing. Does anyone have any idea. My keyboard is the SU-8W Nokia.
The definition of madness is trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
Why don't you absorb the comments of the more knowledgable people who have provided reasons why this is not working and also a solution to get this working.
It is not difficult to change the ROM on your Desire given recent tools available. Although this will mean searching or looking at the sticky threads.
Not only that but you will find greater functionality from your Desire even if you didn't want this, it may prove useful in the future.

[Q] Swedish Mango users?

Hi!
I saw there was some leaked final ROMs of Mango.
So if there are any swedish mango users, please tell me your impressions.
Specifically, I am interested in two functions.
Marketplace: Do the swedish users have access now to the Marketplace with the leaked ROM.
Bing Maps: Is there any directions functionality now?
Is it working in sweden?

Don't know about Sweden but in Finland the marketplace is working and the directions too. Market is a bit more stripped down than let's say US due to some stupid limitations some developers have applied to their software distribution options (for example Board-express, which is like Tapatalk for iPhone / Android). I hope these are going to be removed once the official Mango hits our phones.
