Hi,
HTC Hero users have finally (after many months of promises) got the official Android 2.1.
I downloaded and installed it just couple of hours ago.
The problem I'm facing is support for some asian languages which is missing from all android os versions.. my friends who are using iphone have no problems whatsoever with any languages while I'm unable to read content on certain websites. this is really irritating.
I'm not a big tech guru and I realize that android 2.1 on hero is a pretty new thing.
Is there anybody out there who has managed to root it?
NB! the only thing I'm looking for is a file access so that I can overwrite system fonts like DroidSans.ttf. I don't want to touch the ROM otherwise.
thanks in advance,
Norwegian HTC Hero user

Well I've an HTC Tytn II unbranded with the original Rom, I made the registry Tweaks with Kaiser Tweak and got the Cube easily working. 99% of the Software I'm able to install manual, because the Cabs are available here.
What are the big features an new rom can give me... exept more storage.
I don't want this question specified on a certain rom, I only want to know which improvements have been made @ all.
What are the big Bugfixes and stuff?
Most of the Roms use a newer version of Windows Mobile 6. We usaly don't see a bug, but when you go deep in it, you will notice there are big bugs. I have putten Duttyroy's HTC Touch rom on it. Cause the software packet if compleet + you have the cube. What more you want
Newer Windows Versions, hmmm I'm not much experienced with Wm6.. but isn't an update function? Well... I already had one in garanty for 4 weeks
Hello everyone,
I am planning to buy an HTC Magic in the next two weeks. I read a lot about ROMs, but they all only seem to support USA English as language. I live in a rather rarely seen country on this forum, the Netherlands. I would like to know if it's possible to root my Magic with the Hero Rosie rom (thanks haykuro) and still keep the DUTCH language.
2nd questions:
Does Rosie support bluetooth OBEX? This is an essential feature for me...
Some additional information:
I'm not a noob to modding at all, I've been modding SE phones for about 3 years now, I design a lot of themes, menus, UI tweaks and flash animations for them.
I've read anything that's on the forum (especially in the Dream threads) and i basically know everything now, ADB, root, ROM, ADP, emulator, apk, signing, etc etc.

1. You keep the org. rom when rooting, and can make a backup of it with Nandroid - so you can allways return.
1b. Then you apply the rom you want - and then you only get the languages thats in the rom you choose.
2. CanĀ“t answer that one.
Thanks for your answer, that clears out a lot.
I have only seen English, German, French and Italian... is there a possibility to add Dutch to a ROM on my own?
Hi,
I have smartphone france Rom and it has dutch included
http://wiki.smartphonefrance.info/Default.aspx?Page=firmware-htcmagic&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
here is the direct link to the rom
http://android.smartphonefrance.info/firmware/magic-13.zip
Maybe it's already available in original european rom
Thank you for your reply I can order a very cheap Magic today I will definately try that smartphone france ROM. My Magic will be VOdafone branded... I find flashing ROM pretty scary but we'll see Having those sexy Hero widgets sounds cool
Well, I was scared at first also but now I realized that's ok, cause I can go back to the original firmware
Maybe Dutch is already included in european version
Hi Guys,
Just a quick question i hope.
Can i install a program which makes my HTC Wizard's menues behave like a cube where you can scroll it around from face to face to reveal different menu options ETC?
I've seen this feature on several mobile phones and i was wondering if i could get it on my Mob.
Tom
Sure it can !
But, you should ask some more experienced users and they can post for you download link of best rom with cube in it.
Cheers !
can anyone help with this i currently have CR96 latest rom, it has the honeycomb start menu but just has a scroll today screen' i just want a cube style browsing interface' can i change settings or do i need a different rom? any help would be appreciated.
If you are looking for the cube interface that was on the HTC Touch (I think it was first seen there)...there are a couple versions people have made here on XDA. These are the ones I remember trying back in the days:
HTC Cube Clone SCLPF (Flash-based)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336234
HTC Cube OpenGL SCLPC+ (C++ coded)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358102
As far as I remember they both worked decent on my Wizard. There is also another version by Byka, but don't think I've ever tried that one.

Ahh, thats helps a lot, in everyone's opinion then is it worth going back to one of these or should i stick with the CR96?
I'm getting used to it now, i've tried a couple of others the TNT touchflo and X2H's newest ROM but i've found the CR96 much better!
Any views would be appreciated.
Those links are to a piece of software, NOT to a ROM.
You can install and run those with whatever ROM you have running now. I believe cube clones were built over a year ago so not sure how they'll work with the newer ROMs. But worth a try if you want that cube effect.
Even clearer, thanks!
getting on quite well with the CR96 Rom.
Ok, so I am still a newbie, and not yet allowed to ask questions in developers threads.
Well, I am left with no choice but to address the topic as a whole, not specifically to a special ROM.
The issue we have in the Middle East is the lack of Arabic support in many custom ROMs. I have been observing this issue for a long while, and ROMs with Arabic support come up way too long after the original ones appear. This means that we are either forced to stick to the stock ROM provided by manufacturer, or always agree to use an older version.
Sticking to original ROMs is a pain as you must know. I for instance have been having trouble with HTC ROMs forever. First, I got the Desire, when it was the number 1 in the world. HTC stuck me with an Islamic app that wouldn't be turned off, and that drew my battery (and my patience) out. Then came the sensation, in which HTC stuck me with their own car dock app with locations that I cannot change. The problem is that it runs locations in the background, which heats up the device. I also do not want to use GPS all the time. I ended up waiting for it to launch, then existing directly. Pretty convenient ha?
And yet, when I turn to custom ROMs, I am most of the time forced to try the ROM so I know whether or not it supports Arabic.
Would you developers pleaaaase list right to left languages support in the ROM specifications when releasing a new ROM? Please?
I agree with you, the pre-installed islamic apps are useless and don't function properly thus wasting space and battery and custom ROMs not supporting arabic lang. forces us to stick with the stock ROMs
There is a paid app in the store which installs several arabic fonts, I forgot the name of the app but the price is around 6 dollars and requires root.
Android 4 ( ICS ) Supports Arabic and rtl languages by default, so all the new roms based on it will be able to view Arabic texts correctly.
Additionally there are some patches that can be installed on gingerbread and froyo to add Arabic support, but I haven't tested any of them.
And I totally agree with you about the Islamic apps, they are useless and take a lot of space, I rooted my phone just to delete them.
I know how that feels man, thanks for the awesome dev community ive been using CM7 for the past 6months(it supports Arabic language). And Ive flashed CM9 ICS on my SGS 3 weeks ago and its awesome .. as they mentioned, ICS has native arabic support.
So, I've been searching around for how to install another language option onto my Radar.
I found this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415 but a few things pushed me away from this process.
The first being under the HTC list for OEM drivers, the Radar is not listed.
Also, a person later on in the thread mentioned that if more languages were installed than what was previously on the device, it would put it into an un-updateable state.
Basically, I want to install the Japanese language pack onto my phone, so I can use it in my native language.
I've done a ton of rooting on Android and Jailbreaking on iOS, but I'm still a bit new to dev and hacking of WP7.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
