Welcome to XDA-Developers.com
Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.

LINKS TO OTHER PPC PDA PHONE FORUMS

Hi all,
I believe that this forum is frequent by many moderators of other great forums out there in the world. I am starting this thread in the hope that you can provide us with a great description and URL link to your forum.
For example, 02 XDA ATOM and HTC Prophet are pre-released first in some other countries, and the local forums there would have firsthand discussions on the pros and cons of the phones.
Some others that may merit more discussions may include the ETEN M600 and many other more which I am not qualified to list here.
Please start the BALL rolling!!!!
p.s. and yes, you may not be the moderator, but all the same, if you know of another great forum, feel free to add it here!

Phandroid site insults XDA!!!

Here's the article, have a read for yourself! I actually USE to like this site eventhough they basically copy and paste every article they get from better sites..
http://phandroid.com/2011/01/18/why-we-arent-running-a-story-on-the-claim-that-carriers-are-refusing-to-pay-samsung-for-android-2-2-updates/#comment-330057
D: I love phandroid but, that's a bit low.
Easy there. Before we all go midieval on that posting, consider this: XDA is a site of hackers. We all hack to get better devices. A Cracker is someone who breaks stuff just to wreak havoc.
So it's not actually that a big insult. Unless they said xda-developers themselves isn't to be taken seriously, THEN it's an insult. They just talk about a forum post with no real source to back it up.
Just my 2 cents.
Oh, and keep it civil, ok?
You know, it's nice to call everyone a "hacker" and all, but the people on here do good work, and are directly responsible for some of the best features of android coming to fruition.
Sorry, I'm not a big Phandroid "phan" to begin with. Their community is very nice, very diverse, but their actual ability as internet technology reporters is troublingly poor.

The context is assumed to mean a cracker. Whether that's meant to be implied or not, I simply think it just is.
I think it's funny how a lot of the rooting forums for the phones there link to this site, but it's okay to insult XDA despite using the information and files these "hackers" make. XDA is not a site of hackers, but a site of developers. The site and community do not condone hacking, or piracy. Also, it was one forum member that wasn't even a part of the community at all, he joined to post it as to get a reaction it seems like.
I got the impression that Phandroid was beat up a little by their following, and received too many questions about why they weren't reporting the same crap. Their frustration showed. To me, it was more about the situation and the questions, and kind of came out as a little bit of a slap to XDA. Serious and egregious? Not really.
I wholeheartedly agree with the content of the article. The point was simple: there was one post, with no confirmation or source or reputable basis. I see their point and agree with it. The delivery could have been a bit better. But really, look at any of the sites. They are all littered with spelling and grammatical errors, and could use a huge boost of professionalism. Some are worse than others, but I've (sadly) grown to expect some of the drivel and crap that comes with "news".
Users here hack their phones. How would that not make them hackers? I honestly don't see the big deal here.

i agree with you on this, that's why i posted it... I think of the XDA community as a developer community. I mean I don't see any illegal file sharing on here as you would a "Hacker" community..
I just find it a little idiotic that this guy said that a source making a statement on this site isn't credible, yet someone posting to another site is. All phandroid ever does is copy/paste from other Android news sites and they act like they have some first rate News Reporters that they deem what's real news and what isn't...

Any new stock ruu's coming out soon?

Im on .9 after being rooted because no matter the kernal/rom combo, my GPS was hosed. Back to stock now and all is right again. Just wondering if there are any new stock ruu's past .9 out, or coming soon?
Thanks

Really? These are talking about stock ruu's and they are in this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903760
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975888
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995819
They are also threads in which the OP contains a RUU, not someone asking if a new one will be released. If you can't tell the difference then you should reread the forum rules.
I did,...have you?
If not, here they are, and no where can I find that in the Developers Forum must you provide actual RUU's, not just ask about them.
Forum & Marketplace Rules
FORUM RULES
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.
2.2 Nudity: XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It's not acceptable to post nude/pornographic imagery, which includes exposure of the male or female genitalia or of female breasts.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
2.5 New Members: Treat new members the way you would have liked to have been treated when you were a new member. Provide the new members with guidance, advice and instruction always with respect and courtesy.
2.6 All members are expected to read and adhere to the XDA rules.
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail what your problem is and what you've tried to solve it.
4. Use the English language.
We understand that with all the different nationalities not everyone speaks English well, but please try. If you're really unable to post in English use an online translator, You're free to include your original message in your own language below the English translation.
5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, either pay or find your cracks and serials somewhere else. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained.
7. Do not spam.
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban.
You are however allowed to sell used goods like your own device, parts of your device or accessories for your device in the marketplace forum, please read the rules there before posting. (This rule includes signatures, if you use a signature it will appear in your post)
8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.
11. Don’t post with the intention of selling something.
Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar/substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.
Do not post press releases, announcements, links to trial software, or commercial services. unless you’re posting an exclusive release for XDA-Developers.com.
Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited.
Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration.
Off-site downloads from sites requiring registration are NOT encouraged but may be permitted if the following conditions are met:
A) the site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership who actively maintains XDA-Developers' support thread(s) / posts, related to the download,
B) the site is a relatively small personal website without commercial advertising/links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.)
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

This is not a q&a forum. Those RUU threads you speak of contained the RUU, not someone asking after them. If your not posting a ROM, Root method or MOD, then it doesn't belong in the development section. Put it in general...
Thread reported for closure.

Right, but Im not asking about which battery to use, or why does my TB take bad pics, its about RUU's, I mean close it, move it, whatever the mods want, but its a question I researched, found nothing on, its about RUU's, which are used to develop new ROMs off of...so I figured asking about a ROM, albeit a stock one, should be asked here. Not trying to be a hard ass.
And questions belong in the general forums, not the dev forums. It's a simple concept, these forums are for MODs, Kernels, ROMs, and the like.
I have not seen any new ones. The GPS works fine if you turn on WiFi even if you are not on or near WiFi. Try it and see if it works for you.

I think this thread has to do with dev. He asked about a new ruu that might fix his GPS issue. I also think its sad that all these replies are just flames and no help. To answer your question, I have not heard of any RUU. Have you tried the gps fix in these forums?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Thank you,...yes, I have tried all the gps fixes, wifi on/off, it didnt seem to matter. Im cool with being stock, as my max stable OC was only 1.2ghz, so no big loss there, and now that Juice Defender (Beta) is playing nice with the TB, my battery life seemed to have improved to near UV performance. What Im looking for is hopefully a fix for the garbled sounds from the camcorder. And I will re root again to try out new ROMs again, Im sure, maybe whatever was farking with my GPS will be ironed out by then.
Aaaaaaand moved. Oh well, less exposure to the people who would potentially know the answer, but what can you do. Next time I will link an old RUU in the thread and everybody will be happy.
Message boards arent really a democracy dude. If someone tells you wrong forum, say sorry, and move it.
Why sit here and whine about it only making enemies of people who could potentially help you? Most people also check the general forum.

Carrier IQ issues apology letter to TrevE

Earlier this month, egzthunder1 wrote an excellent article here about Carrier IQ cease and desist letter to xda member TrevE about his work on "rootkit" app on mobile phones, asking him to cease and desist all activities and issue a public apology to the company, along with retracting all documents and work thereunder. Lots of xda senior members took up the fight by publicizing the issue, in a bid to help the fellow xda member. The article can be read here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/carrier-iq-sues-treve/
Three days ago however, Carrier IQ issues a statement apologizing TrevE, which can be read below.
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...r-tries-to-silence-critical-android-dev-1.ars
Hope that TrevE is out of the woods now and wish him the best of luck.
Bit of an old thread (found via Google), but this is a total BS excuse.
They are simply scared of the developer world and how big this community is.
I hope they get taken down, as painfully and shamefully as possible.
I hope someone is working on a full reverse engineering of the actual code (yes, every single instruction).

MA Digital Right to Repair

I realize this isn't specific to the Droid Turbo, but it's a great thing that I'd expect anyone on XDA would want to support. Too bad it's only in MA for now, but I encourage other MA members to share and support this legislation. Maybe it will encourage other states to adopt similar laws! This campaign is supported by iFixit, EFF, and many other similar groups, of which I am sure people here on XDA are already fans!

Please spread the word... feel free to copy/paste my post here into other forums if you wish, as well!
