Polaris touch panel locked for low value of Pressure Threshold - Touch Cruise General

Playing with my Polaris with Advanced Configuration Tool Ver. 3.3 I made a big mistake: I set the Pressure Threshold to Normal (default). After reset was not more possible to use the Touch Panel. With CeRedEdit I found out that the value in the registry is set to 200 (instead of 19866).
Now I'm not able to use the device because is locked and I cannot unlocked because "pressure" is not enough. I've tried also to push as much as I can but without any results.
With CeRegEdit from my PC I can read the value of Pressure Threshold but I can't modify it because it needs to install a file on Polaris to unlock registry to write a value in HKLM.
I tried also to hard reset the device but it's not possible because keys (IE and GPS) are locked.
The only thing that I can do is answer to phone calls.
Please help me!!!!
Is there a way to change Pressure Threshold value from remote ?
Thanks
Davide

Search for 'My Mobiler'. Download and install on your PC. Sync Polaris and try running any reg editor on PPC from PC. Might solve your problem.. Good Luck...

I've installed it but it asks me on the phone my confirmation to execute remote.exe because the author is not known. It's the same problem that I have with CeRegEdit when I try to unlock registry.
I cannot accept because touch panel is not usable.
Thanks for the suggestion!

hi 'dknight71'
Why don't you flash a 'splash' or 'radio' using RUU (not custom RUU); that will hard reset the device... you will lose any data there though.

Is it already locked when you fresh restart?
I think it should work also in locked state.
Again: Press and hold left lower HARDWARE button, hold it pressed
and press wheel button (or the blue lit one on Polaris).

Try looking for some WinCE registry editor that runs on PC and works over activesync, such as one present in EVC4. I don't know if it loads anything that would give a security warning, but maybe not, hence, certainly worth a try.

same problem
I'm having this same problem. My device is set to lock automatically when it is turned on. The Lower Left hardware button and center button trick does not work because it is locked. The only button that does anything is the sleep button. ActiveSyncing isn't an option because I have to unlock my device before I can connect. ActiveSync jsut gives a "Please unlock device to connect" message. Is the only fix for this going to be to enter the flashing mode (sorry, can't remember the technical term, but I mean when you hold the camera button while soft resetting) and re-flashing my ROM?
[edit]After trying a few more times, I was able to get my phone to hard reset holding the lowest two hard keys and hitting the reset button. It's sad, because I had just finished setting up everything after flashing my ROM. Oh well, hopefully it'll go faster this time.[/edit]

password/pin lock by power button

is there any way to password lock the phone by pressing power button? maybe registry settings, application, or other way? if some1 can explain how, it'll be really great.
tray icon application will be fine too.
If you enable the password feature, and set the time-out to 0, it should ask for a password every time you turn it on.
no, its not suits me, i have 2 minutes phone turn off setting, and i dont want phone to be locked in 2 minutes. all i need is to lock it with power button and auto lock set to 15 minutes.

Try this:
Kai's Device PIN on/off 1.2
Application Description
Do you protect your device with a password? Then you need this program. Assign it to a button and switch the device PIN comfortably on an off.
User-friendly in 3 steps explained
Deposit (save) the password (encrypted)
Recall by hardwarebutton: ON/OFF of device PIN (without new entering)
Example of use:
You were the hole day away on business and your device PIN is activated. When you get home and you do not want to enter always the device PIN . With this progam you can switch off the PIN easily and quick. On the next day, when you got to work, activate the PIN comfortably by a keystroke without reentering the PIN.
System requirements:
System: Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003, 2003 SE, WM 5, WM 6
Screen: 240x320 Pixel or higher
Processors: Samsung, Intel® PXA XScale, StrongARM, OMAP
Its cheap, less than $5.
If it does not power the device off you could use mortscript to run this .exe & a power off .exe & map a script link to a button or an icon or voice command.
Hope this helps.

This program would meet your requirements by having a tray icon or launcher icon.
Mapping it to the power button may not be possible but it could be mapped to any other button if wanted.
This is the only password auto locking software using the standard device lock available.
Your only other option is to create a password on/off MortScript to run Settings/Password and auto input your 4 digit code, tick the required boxes & then run a device off.exe, done this on my old Magician a few years back., works well but its a bit crude compared to Kia's software.
i've download similar application(PSShut XP), but this app doing same as u describe, its runs settings\password lock, and then password promt appears, and u can simply click menue\cancel ). maybe this was working in windows 2003 or wm5, but im using wm6. only thing i've found for that case is vb function SHDeviceLockAndPrompt(), and i need to download SDK and compile an .exe, but im looking easier solution for that problem
clarification
I believe I am also looking for the same functionality:
-scenario: you power off the phone via hardware button and put it in your pocket. In your poocket, the button is pressed accidentally, and because the password lock has not yet auto-activated, the screen is active and you accidentally call your boss, or a total stranger
If this is your scenario, there is a 'screen saver' called MortSaver that can prevent this situation: it requires you to press a 2nd hardware button (user defined) to fully close the screensaver. unfortunately it will not instantly enable the password lock.
this does seem like nothing more than a simple api call, but i would be surprised if there isnt an .exe somewhere to do it aready. will have a look around.

Backlight when keyguard activated

Any ideas how I get the backlight to come on when the keyguard is activated? Its really hard to see the keys.
Also, in windows mobile 5 on my XDA mini s the keyguard deactivated when the passcode was entered. on this version the 'enter' button has to be pressed before the pass code is accepted. Can this be switched off?
Cheers!

Hi there, could you tell me where you found the reg hacks? I would like to give it a go since I am desperate enough to try anything to sort this problem out.
This Registry entry swichtes on backlight when device is suspended and blocked:
Rename folder HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel to:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelX
OK, accept = yes, Soft-Reset
It's somewhere in tricks thread, for me it works like a charm.

It's not working. Although I renamed HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel

After soft reset, HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel come back again & HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelX appear to be a new registry entry.

Yes, that is right, both folders are there now. When creating LockLevelX, did you click in ok on the top / right side of screen ?

Yes I did that.
I thought your suggestion will turn the backlight on when we press the key while the key is locked.
Anyway your suggestion can help in the following scenario

I feel sorry when it's not what you were looking for. Anyway, "my suggestion" comes from HTC Polaris tweaks and tricks
Rgds,
Hi I found this 'fix' on google, i think it was on an HTC forum (i.e. via htc website).
I have O2 Orbit2 and had the dim screen on keylock/password lock. (While those who don't have it may not see the problem i couldn't actually tell if the machine was on or not, in sunlight, to unlock!)
The solution was to goto HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
and change the value to 00000003.
The only issue is that on my Orbit2, using PHM regedit, this immediately 'fixes' the issue but reverts on reset!
Just means I have to re do the reg edit after every reset.
BTW have been very annoyed at the '10 second' backlight bug so am hoping locklevelx will fix that.
Very glad to say that renaming lock level to locklevelx has sorted out both problems! I now have both folders HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel&HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelx
The backlight now goes off after 30 seconds when the keys are unlocked.
When the keys are locked the backlight stays on for ten seconds, it will then come back on for ten seconds with any button press or screen tap.
On resume from standby, locked or unlocked the backlight is on.
Step by step of what edits I made.
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel; value set to 00000003;
then
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel renamed to HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelx
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\ string battery timeout; value set to 30
SOFT RESET
Then looking at the registry
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel; has value 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelx; has value 00000003 (displayed as 3)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight Battery timeout = 30
As previously mentioned the renaming of the folder worked on my orbit II

HELP!! a bricking - how can I hard reset?

I know it is my fault, I was using the Advanced Configuration Tool and thought I could make the screen on the x7510 more sensitive. The result was the opposite and the screen now won't respond to taps at all. So no possibility of screen input.
Without that, I can't use the same tool to put the settings back to what they were before, as it requires a screen tap to commit changes before re-booting. The absence of soft keys on the keyboard makes for problems here.
For the same reason, I can't hard reset using the Clear Storage tool, as that also requires a screen tap. I can't use Resco Registry Editor as that requires screen taps too.
So I am in somewhat of a quandary, happy to hard reset and start again, but no way of doing it that I can see.
Could I re-load the ROM? Someone uploaded the WWE version, but it unzips to three .raw files, which I have no idea what to do with.
Help please!! I need this as I am on holiday, I may be slow coming back to any replies, we are in Laos, where comms are, shall we say, a little slow, and we are travelling about. the first chance i get to sort this out I will use though.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

If you have access to a PC onto which you may install software, then you can download and install MyMobiler, which is freeware. Get it here: www.mymobiler.com.
This will allow you to control your device from the PC, using the mouse, so you'd be able to make the changes you need to make.
Good luck!

For reference, I had this same problem yesterday. Didn't know of this thread at the time but managed to sort it out. It is completely possible to use the "clear storage" option in Settings>>System navigating using the keyboard. Fn>>OK brings up the start menu..navigate to settings using the cursor keys..press enter to select. Use TAB and cursor keys to navigate around across the tabs to "System" and again from there to "Clear Storage". Select whether to wipe the data stored on the device, on the flash disk or both using cursors/TAB, type "1234" and press the "OK" key. Done.
I had even managed to configure hardware buttons to the left/right soft keys to try to revert the settings in Advance Config, but it seems the effect of completely losing touch screen functionality is irreversible
Or you could obviously use the other method above which I didn't think to look for!! Like I said, just for reference. Might be useful to someone.
TIP: Don't change "Pressure Threshold" in Advanced Config to "Very High" as it will cause your touch screen to stop responding and the only way to get it back is by a hard reset.

Disconnect DataConnection via code.... (Eg: Mortscript)

How to disconnect GPRS via code? (eg Mortscript)
I mean just launching a script, without use CommManager or the "bubble"...
There must be a way. Some people have written software that turns 3G on/off, so there must be a similar way (without using something that switches the connection off after a few time)...
Thanks in advance for any answer...

If i'm not mistaken, in the main Mortscript Examples thread in the dev&hack section there's a script to automatically download emails using a data connection. you can see if it contains that script.

I too would love to find a key button way or larger touch screen way to manually disconnect the data connection. The 3G sign is so small - I have to take out the stylus.

well depending on the build of your rom, the long press end key will end data connection if yoyu so wish, you just have to select the item in the settings as decribed above. I dont see the need for script or code to do this if your rom supports the function anyway?
That's great advice - thanks but my rom is obviously different.
ie. In the pulldown menu for button functions - there is no end option. The nearest thing is OK/Close but long holding that changes the speaker/vibrate - it doesn't effect the data connection..
Sorry I was assuming we needed to add a different function to one of the hardware keys. In which case an `end' was not in the pulldown options for button assigning. I finally realized that simply pressing the call end key itself does indeed disconnect the data connection.
Thanks a lot for your help.
no problems my friend

It is just a windows mobile setting:
Start -> Settings -> System -> Key lock -> do not lock keys (or something like that, I have a dutch phone).
Make sure you have a good locking solution, like TouchLockPro, because your phone will awake regularly when the keys are pressed.
Hi ZuinigeRijder.
First of all thank u for ur reply.
Then, unfortunately I can't find these options on my phone (in the latest three different ROMs I've tried these options are no more in the settings, one 6.1 and two 6.5 ROMs).
Some times ago I've found a post with a registry hack to obtain that result.
But now I can't find that post anymore.
Thank u very much
Sorry, I've found it!!!
And here it is for all who need it:
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd\DefaultKeyLock
set it to 0 and all the hardware keys will wake up the phone.
Thank you for all.
Actually here is the easier way. Install this control panel app, to control the key lock. Its made by HTC, and has been included on their devices for a looong time now. But I do believe certain OEM's/Carriers remove this for some unknown reason.

I'm trying to do the opposite...I'm trying to disable all keys wake up...but that registry entry and HTC key lock app doesnt work for my HD2.
