Look here if you want TT7 but they are miserable gits!
Found TomTom 7 for sale on Handtec, doesn't look any different to version 6. Also is doesn't have advanced lane guidance, text to voice or any of the more recent innovations in Sat guidance. Plus, the guys at Tomtom are a bunch of miserable gits!! I'd rather eat a thistle than give them my money, but here you go!

Hi,
I totally agree with you, i have already too much fed the big fat lazy cat, which became pushy with its CUSTOMERS, particularly to my own experience, the arrogant european support.
They totally ignored us (smarthone users) at the end of 2007, by not allowing us to get tomtom7(except for some carriers or models(few htc's) )arguing some compatibility issues(laziness again) when you can see copilot7, zorrogps, ndrive which are already compatible with the brand new diamond2 !!
But at the end of 2008 when HTC sold 25 million smartphones wordlwide and are forcasting 45 million for 2009, the big cat realised its coarse strategic mistake and it is now trying to go back to us showing its "pattes de velours"...too late:
i have already too much tasted its claws !!
TomTom are the worse company I've ever had to deal with regarding customer service. They assume you're a criminal when you ask them for a new activation code. Yes tomtom some people do have enough money to buy a new phone after 3 months.
The problem is I actually like the TTNav interface. I tried Co Pilot when I had my Orbit 2 but didn't like it as much.
Right now my car has built in sat nav so not too corcerned about having it on my TD2 & I use Modaco Cameraware for safety camera alerts/.

NavigonMobile does not work on the Diamond2/Topaz. When started it just freezes the handset for a few seconds and then it just returns to the home screen.
I had a fall-out with TomTom ages back for similar reasons as already posted. I really despise them now as a company, brand and product. I had three replacement phones in a short space of time due to faults and getting a new code was so difficult - I know they have revenue to protect, but I was treated like a conman. Eventually got a new code to be told that I would not be issued a new one again and I had to agree they would no longer support me!
I tried to get new maps for v6 as it is getting quite poor now, but they said that there would be no updates, so I enquired about the upgrade price to 7 and they said that it is only being relased to OEMs so I have to keep 6. I gave up in the end and found an alternative solution.
However just seen this on TomTom UK:

I wouldn't buy it myself though, I'm through with the robbing blighters!

Before you buy Tom Tom consider how you will be supported after your purchase. Software is an investment and is only good as it is currently applicable to it's use. In this case navigation software needs to be updated with new maps to be current. Upgrades have always been a part of software to allow current users to upgrade to new functionality while preserving some part of the initial investment and garnering customer loyalty.
In this case Tom Tom told me via customer service line the only way to get Tom Tom 6.x was to go buy it, NO UPGRADE.
So the choice is simple, I will go buy a competitor and NEVER buy a Tom Tom Product again.
Tom Tom thinks they are big bad and #1 so they forget about existing customers. Think again and watch as a competitor that takes care of customers takes the lead.
What you claim is not quite true, TomTom have never charged for the application software so you can download vs6 software and install it to your device for free. What does require paying for is a vs6 compatible map, maps cost money to produce and it is these that are charged for - Mike
add to that, that virtual no-one lets you have V5 to V6 for free, you can have v5.99999999999 but not v6, NERO Burning are a classic example of the same and no one complains

That does not make sense. I upgraded from v5 to v6 just by buying the map upgrade from the TomTom site. Either the rep did not know what they are talking about or you have some other agenda. It would not be the first time that a telesales rep has got things wrong so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

HI,
Has anyone been able to get there hands on a rebadged XDA Flint?
I have been calling O2 everyday for over a week, no one on there sales / upgrades team has any idea this device even exists. They have no information about it, when it will be available, how much it will cost. Nothing.
There website says it is available and on myxda site its the first device you see.
The shop section will allow you to add to basket but 404`s when trying to pay / enter details.
Has anyone got any information from them or know when I can get my hands on this!?
Thanks,
Embassy
O2 the great pain. The saga conntinues.
This device is only available online and to NEW business customers only.
I have now spent over 3 1/2 hours in total trying to do one of two things.
Either upgrade my contract to a Business package or close it and re open a new acccount under a business tarrif.
This seems just a little to complicated for O2. I have been passed from department to department.
They all say they cant do what I request and pass me on to another team, I work in a call center enviroment myself and it is becoming painfully ovious that these agents simply do not want to handle my call, most likely as they are scored on there call durations.
I will update this IF and when I finally manage to get this device.
O2 better get there finger out, there getting one more try and im taking the 5 phones on my contract to orange and will get the HD instead.
I warn you, if you want this device on O2 be prepared for a up hill strugle with there phone system and there staff.
Anyone know of another provider offering the X7510?
O2 are unusual in that the Online, Offline, Personal and Business departments operate as separate entities, so transferring between them is difficult or impossible.
Also, it is common for new devices to be unavailable for upgrades for some time after they are available to new customers.
Interestingly, the price of the Flint has risen from a fixed £179 on all tariffs in early December to a sliding scale starting at £279 now, and all contracts are 24 months.
There is no doubt the Flint is a good device- I was one of the pre-release testers. However it is not a major step forward over the X7500/Ameo, and really suffers for the lack of hardware buttons, and also an older implementation of WM6.1 than more mainstream devices.
T-Mobile offers the x7510 (branded as the Ameo)
x7510 = t-mobile ameo 16gb

I bought my XDA Flint on eBay for £470.
Still no joy with this, absolute nightmare.
Now being told the only way to get this on o2 is to change to downgrade to pay a go from a standard consumer account and then upgrade to business.
This doesn’t add up with being told I can negotiate a free handset as I have been a long standing customer.
It’s looking like I need to make a complaint to get this resolved.
With regards to eBay, I have never paid for a phone / pda in my life.
Neither have I really. Not fully anyway. The way to do it is to upgrade to the most valuable handset you can for free or by paying as little as possible, then sell it as brand new for a shedload of cash. Use that cash towards the purchase of the handset you really want.
The trick is to sell it on again before it goes too commercial i.e. before it goes to the big network providers. That way it will retain most of it's original value, and you can put the cash you make towards the next new thing, again before that hits the networks. You'll still get your default upgrade too. Just upgrade for free again to a valuable device and sell it on. Then you have two pots of cash to use towards a new power toy every 12/18/24 months (depending on your contract). Gotta stay one step ahead! This isn't too difficult because, at least as far as HTC are concerned, their devices are released by them about 6 months before the networks get hold of them and stick all their ugly badges and buggy software on them!
I was a bit slower with the Flint, as the Advantage x7510 was far too expensive anyway beforehand. I just gave into temptation, even though O2 and T-Mobile already have their hands on it. Hopefully, it's value won't depreciate too much in the next 6-12 months.
Got my new XDA Flint for FREE!!! (hee-hee)
I just got my new XDA Flint but am afraid of starting it up. Will it try to install an O2 HMI instead of the normal WM 6?
This forum helped with my XDA Exec with WM5 by providing me the corporate number to overide the O2 HMI.
Can anyone help please?
I got this as a new upgrade plus I reduced my monthly costs on my business tarrif with their new small business tarrif...sweet!!!
There is no 'Corporate Mode' option on the Flint- all installations are the same.
However, there is no O2 customised front end. In fact there is no front end at all, as O2 do not include HTC Home in the build.
The release ROM for the Flint is a good one- newer than the cooked ROMs, and is fast and reliable.
If you use it with a non-O2 SIM, you will need to manually enter the connection details as it doesn't include HTC Connection Manager.
Thank you NeilM!
NeilM,
Thank you very much for your help.
So I should have done the full install instead of skip it? Ooops? I will do a hard reset then and start over. The quick start guide says I can make video calls....is this true in WM6 I thought this was not supported?
My next task is to see if I can port the Tom Tom license over to this PDA. Then put an SPB front end unless anyone has a better suggestion?
As you can tell I am behind the times - it has been a long time since I upgraded from the XDA Exec (2005 - which has always been rock solid and reliable) and the Flint fits my purpose of a mobile office whilst going to clients facilities. This Flint in a small briefcase and a note book makes my commutes to clients a breeze. I see other consultants with giant ruck sacks and 20 million gadgets/laptops notes books etc and I pop out with this thing, my mobile phone, a leather note book and I am ready. I did not get the Flint to be a phone. My problem with Blackberry's are the keyboards are too small for my fingers and Blackberries dont have MSWord and Excel apps to create/edit information and the Flint has a video out so I can show PPT presentations on sales calls. If only MSFT could allow creation/editing of PPT...that would be a result. (Suggestions anyone?)
Also, does anyone know if there is an Open Source application for pushmail as my company run Linux servers and was looking to see if one existed to mimic the push of mail instead of the Flint constantly checking, thereby saving power. (In no way am I trying to avoid the MSFT push mail solution, I just want to know if another exists as Open Source)
Don't reply if any of the above has already been discussed in this forum. I should do the work to find out the info. However, I did not find too many Flint threads on this forum so I do not know if there are SW or HW nuances that need to be considered.
Thanks to all!
No problems with the questions! The Flint/X7510 is sufficiently 'rare' that there are few comprehensive answers out there, though it is very similar to the X7500.
You definitely need to hard reset (Settings/System/Clear Storage) as a lot of essentialstuff gets installed from the supplementary installation (Opera, JetsetPrint etc)
The O2 theme is very blue as you would expect, but there is absolutely no other O2 stuff apart from the O2 Connection mamnager which configures the settings for whichever O2 provider you are with. If you use another operatorSIM, you will have to enter the settings manually, but this is not difficult.
For using as a presentation tool, I'd advise buying the enhanced output cable (unless it is already supplied)as it includes a USB host connector and an RCA Video Output. The USB can be used with an external mouse/keyboard (even a wireless combo) or a pen drive if needed.
If you are serious about needing Powerpoint presentations, and don't mind spending a bit of cash, then I can highly recommend Softmaker Office. It is expensive at €70 but has 3 programs which are respectively fully compatible with desktop versions of MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint. You can create, edit and read any file on the WinMo device, and can even print to PDF format.
For a front end, I think Spb Mobile Shell is an excellent choice, especially in combination with PocketPlus (but you need 4.03 Beta available from the SpbClub forums). You may also need to look at an extra Soft Keyboard, as the Flint only includes the basic MS ones. Cootek Touchpal and Spb Keyboard are both good options.
Video calls have been supported in all 3G Windows Mobile devices, from WM5 onwards- not sure where you got the info about WM6, but that is not the case! Maybe you were reading about US versions of the X7501 which some companies insisted on their users utilising- this had the front camera removed for security reasons (supposedly!). Obviously both parties need a decent 3G signal but it works well. The Flint runs WM6.1 and has good video capabilities.
TomTom- how old is your version? If more than a year it would pay you to buy the current version with its updated maps- currently on offer at £30 for UK and £40 for Europe. If not, then TomTom will supply you with a new activation code. If you have only used one previous activation, you can go to www.ttcode.com, enter your map's product ID and your new phone's Device ID, and it will generate a new activation code. If you've already used your activations, then email TT support with a proof of purchase for the Flint and they might provide a new code. Beware though that if they deem the Flint as unsupported, they may not give you a code.
For 'quick and dirty' location, then the new MS Live Search V4 or Google Maps work well, though the GPS does take up to 5 miunutes for a 1st fix (subsequent fixes are quicker).
Hope this helps!
Last week on another Forum I part of, one of the more experienced members released info on NavNGO's new iGO 2009. Don't know yet if the satnav program will be called iGO9 but that is what it has called in private posts I have been following. Here is the link to the undeveloped page:
http://www.igomyway.com/en/#
Supposedly NavNGO is working on improving much of the features we have seen in iGO8 like the Driver Alerts. While some users are worried that NavNGO will leave behind the PNA market, I find that hard to believe.
The primary reason for that is because the PNA version is easily adapted to other platforms like PDAs, 2Dins and smartphones. And knowing some characters on other boards, I am sure they will find a way to make it compatible with their old devices. Hopefully it will be more user-friendly towards finger-friendly smartphones and possess TTS. Some companies mistakenly think of smartphones as being PDAs and iGO8 did not have TTS available for its PDA version.
Most users like me have more than one platform or device. I presently have a PDA and smartphone. Plus I provide "expert advice" to my Brother and a friend who have a different smartphone and PNA respectively. For this reason I believe others will find a way to port it to other devices.
Still, NavNGO has promised to release maps for those platforms up till 2010. Personally I don't travel in too many newly built up areas. So, my future 2010 maps will mostly likely serve me for at least two to three years beyond.
iGO9 probably will not be out much before February 2010 but I could be wrong (I hope; I hope)!
I think they are waiting for Wm 7 to show.

I don't think so. NavNGo had a lot of problems with its Driver Alert feature and the fact that one set of maps worked with it. It seems from what I read on other Forums that they are working on branding iGO onto other devices or platforms. I bet they felt the urge or need to get it on iPhone and Android while waiting to develop iGO9 for smartphones.
The smartphone version will or should be an upgrade of the PNA version. When I got iGO8 for my PDA, they sold me the PDA version that that does not have TTS. TTS is an integral part of a satnav program. I want streets, exits, etc all announced. I only hope the smartphone version will not be a limited PDA version.
OK guys, I've been waiting for some time now in order to see a working version of Garmin Mobile XT on Android devices (apart from the Garmin Asus ones)... Garmin doesnt seem to care (or has a good contract with Asus) to release the software for us poor Android's...
I thought of something that would possibly motivate the Capable ones to port this software for us. I would GLADLY donate 20 euro (about 26 usd) for a working copy of the software!
If there are any other Garmin junkies out there, lets join forces and try to give a little "push" to the devs able to do that!
I would kick in some money for a working version of Garmin too. I had it on my WinMo phone, and although it had its quirks, it was the best GPS app of several that I tried.
Is there no option to hi-jack it from a Nüvi phone?

Garmin software is property of Garmin so technically this is paying for Warez.
If you really want to have the software, Mass email garmin to sell it to other android phones.
Also TomTom might be coming to Android because of the large user base.
I always preferred TomTom for GPS systems anyways.

just so you know asus & garmin have split and gone their own ways. the phone you'll most likely see will solely be an asus phone. garmin is sticking to GPS units/software. so who knows what will happen in this department.
They'll come....in time
You think Garmin mobile xt can be installed on wp7 using chevron?
So right now there is absolutely no option for turn-by-turn directions on WP7 besides a carriers subscription option? I guess MS not allowing multi-tasking is going to kill that good. I guess that if there isn't some option, then folks will start dumping WP7. I've got an ATT Focus and luckly haven't needed TbT yet but probably will soon.
Orange Maps is actually pretty good ya'll but obviously isnt available for all
I really, really need Garmin so I can use my Costa Rica maps...

I recommend using Android for your nav needs. WP7 just won't cut it in that category. I keep my Android phone handy and booted for doing the things WP7 doesn't do...which means my Android phone is mostly used.

Yes Navigon looks great, but there are no Costa Rica maps for Navigon..
You mean, there are maps for Haití for Navigon? I can't believe that... I thought there were maps just for Europe for Navigon.
Just forget about it. You're going to miss IGO 8 no matter which platform you choose. There's nothing like it for Android or iPhone either, so don't expect it to appear on WP7.
Since Google announced its free turn-by-turn navigation for Android with voice prompts, this industry pretty much disappeared. There's no money in it anymore. Even here in these forums you can easily see that people expect turn-by-turn nav to be a free option from Bing/MS. With free options being "good enough" for the majority of users, there's just no point in trying to sell such expensive apps. It's akin to trying to make a browser or a mail client. The guys like Nav'n'Go are now only focused on OEMs who make satnav devices and operators, they can't make money by selling apps any longer. So the IGO versions for iOS/Android are already shadows of what you had on WM.
With WP7 it's even more difficult. For iOS/Android they make simplistic apps that are cross-platform for the most part, with the feature set determined by the least common denominator principle. But because of no native APIs for WP7, they wouldn't be able to do even as much. They'll need to create and maintain whole separate forks of their apps. This is so cost prohibitive given the small userbase and absolutely uncertain prospects that no sane manager would allow spending money on such a project without external sponsorship.
So the only options we have now are the ones provided by operators (while the apps themselves are made by all the familiar guys, they aren't available to the general public legally).

It looks like crap. It's also crap in terms of options. It doesn't have even such basic things as history, you have to start navigating from choosing your country every time you start it. It doesn't save state properly when minimized. It can't route between more than two points. It can't search for POIs along your route. It's 2D. You have to unlock your phone and steal maps to use it. It does the routing job though, so it's usable. But it's not what I would call an acceptable satnav app on any other platform.

Hopefully the Mango update with the navigation will cater to everyones needs. I am kinda worried that its going to be half baked for non-US device owners...
