ampda How To, CAB Files, Hacks all together in one place

Morning / Afternoon / Evening to All,
Not to be critical of this wonderful website which is full of great resources but, I have noticed that the useful info is hard to find.
So I thought it might be a good idea to post all of my items in the one place so here goes.
I will update these as i go.
TIP
If you want the CAB Files in remain in your PPC after install simply change the files preferences to "Read Only"
since i was just upgrade from wallaby to magician, i found all your posting, instructions and cab files very very helpful thanks a lot ampda, you rules :!:
Hello ampda , Great Work Friend . . . many thanx for these cabs and instruction files.
Cheers for taking the time to make them for the rest of us noobs
Glad to Help
verry nice indeed but there are simpler ways of doing the discribed below
(copied this out of pdf file )
3. Copying your “Extended ROM” Files before Big Storage
You need to copy the files from your “Extended ROM” before you go the Big Storage as you will need to install some of them after you’re finished, i.e. MMS etc. They will be deleted after the upgrade (and that’s the whole point).
a. To copy them from your Magician do a hard reset (push the power button and reset button at the same time).
b. Go through the screen alignment, time zone etc and get ready…….. when you reach the “Completed” screen it will ask you to “Tap your screen…. As soon as you tap the screen you get 3 sec to soft reset (push the reset button). If you miss it as I did just do a hard reset and try again.
c. After you do b. above go to the built in file explorer and under “My Device” you will now see the treasured “Extended_ROM” with all its files. Copy the directory straight to your SD Card then to your PC, keep them safe.
its just a bit easyer when you just fill in
go to windows folder on PPC and search loadvdisk.exe
run it and you will see your ext_rom (until you reset )
not to sure the usual file explorer can do this but Resco file explorer will find it
another progie that can find it is total commander :
find it here

Hi!!
Thanks for all your help!
Does anyone konw, or is there a way to save to the pc the SMS messages both received and sent??
Cheers!
use jeyo mobile companion. u can backup all of your messages, contacts (phone and sim), etc.
Hi!
Thanks for the tip!
By the way, and i think these questions are more tricky, is there any way NOT to charge the battery while the phone is connected to the USB?
And while using the calling software, when inputing the nunbers, to make the sim card entries dissapear and only have the ones that are in the contacts? Because most of the times i have a double entry and it really makes me mad!
Thanks!
The way to NOT to charge the battarie is to make some changes to your cable - cut +5v from USB (or make a switch).
the tray launch only app.... theres now way to BROWSE for the program you want on the tray?
sucks that you have to type out the entire path just to get it
Any idea whether these (or more specifically the camera speckles change) will work on a Wizard?
Remove Camera
Noob question here.
Once i install the camera & album to Storage how do i delete it from the \windows . Maybe not possible due to it being in ROM. In this case I end up with 2 camera software? So i'm curious what is the idea of installing in storage.
Halo ampda, i tryin to follow your how_to_ppc_upgrade.pdf buat I stuck in the step 4 backing up your existing rom to PC, in romupdate.exe I still confuse about the PORT things. can you help me to, which one to use?
please help...
thanks
Thanks for nice posting AMPDA..
I have a question,
I installed ampda_CameraV2.7b21026_RAM.CAB
but my camera version was 2.70 (build 18727) and it is still the same. I reset the device but still didnt become build 2026.
Do you have an idea?

MS Word Slow to start

Has anyone else noticed this? I upgraded from the previous HTC eager to try out the new Diamond Touch Pro (I bought it before it was available from any of the networks) and whilst I've tweaked most of the GUI I'm still frustrated by how long it takes to start word.
The previous HTC (running WM5) used to start word almost instantly. It takes between 6 and 20 seconds now (depending on what I'm running) even to start a new blank document.
Any ideas welcome.
Gruff
I think it's because your Word is set to recognize all text file types (.doc, .rft, .txt...) and you have a lot of them, possibly on a storage card. When launched, Word makes a list of all these files, which takes a long time.
You could go to the Word settings and change which file types it should list. Maybe you have 100s of .txt files: if you exclude these, launching Word hopefully won't take so long anymore.
I do have a lot of word docs but I tried and that seems to make no difference. I've actually removed my SD card completely (all the docs are on there) and it takes just a long without it.
If I start a new document the green initialisation bar at the bottom just takes its sweet time to fill up.
If I open a one line document it has to reach 90% or more before I see a single line which takes 5-6 seconds on a good day.

[App][14-07-09] Stop PushInternet for real - save 9.5 MB memory

Stop PushInternet for real - throw Opera out of memory and save 9.5 MB memory
Push-Internet – sounds like a pretty good idea: The user can set certain webpages to be automatically downloaded to their devices in time intervals that can be set. This way it will take much less time to open a webpage, since it's cached locally on the device.
On second thought this isn't such a great thing though:
1.The smallest time interval that can be set is 1 hour. For people that are in need of realtime information from websites, this certainly won't work. And even if you're just browsing to a website that is updated pretty often, you wouldn't want to miss the last hour and would refresh it anyway.
2.Another big downside of push internet: for it to work HTC forces Opera to stay in memory all the time. Even if you quit Opera from within, it will be restarted within the blink of an eye, at the costs of an extra 9.5 MB that are taken from RAM.
3.Opera staying in memory all the time makes it hard to save changes via opera:config , like the number of open tabs.
Now, there is of course the possibility to deactivate push internet some will say, but the available option does not actually stop the underlying pushinternet-service nor does it stop Opera from staying in memory (for no reason).
By downloading and installing the attached NoPushInternet_v2.CAB you will force the underlying PushInternetEngine service to „start manual“ instead of automatic and you will get rid of Opera staying in and eating up your memory after a softreset.
BUT BEWARE: Once you have installed NoPushInternet_v2.CAB, push internet will not work anymore, the respective setting under Touchflo will have NO EFFECT, no matter if turned off or on.
You will have to uninstall NoPushInternet_v2.CAB to actually be able to turn push internet back on. To uninstall got to uninstall programs and click on „Manila NoPushInternet“, all changes will be reverted.
Visit my Blog if you like: http://mytd2.blogspot.com , it's in german however.
This description is included in the CAB file and will be installed to \My Documents folder.
[UPDATE July 14]
Fixed a bug: Opera would not switch to landscape mode on the first loaded page.
Download and install NoPushInternet_v2.CAB or only NoPiFix.CAB if you had v1.0 installed.

+10% free RAM : That's a TRICK! Thank you!
thanks friend. have no use for push internet. plus get back some ram!! good.
This is a very nice tweak, thanks. However, it does have one side-effect I am not sure I like. Because Opera doesn't run in the background, everytime you press 'Open Internetbrowser' Opera needs to be loaded and this takes a few seconds. Not sure if the extra free RAM outweighs the wait for the browser to start.
Thanks for the nice comments!

That's true, of course and for everyone to decide for themselves. It will only take longer on first start, if you set Opera not to close on X or switch via Taskmanager (WksTask is great for that btw.) it will stay in memory. I for one like to decide myself if and when Opera stays in memory. Also this "downside" is an "upside" for some: Your device will start quicker, as Opera isn't loaded automatically.
You may however load Opera via autostart and have both: Opera ready in memory, but you can throw it out of memory if/when you like. Probably the best for your specific liking, Betty.

It is a personal choice depending also on what use you are making of your device, but as you said, it takes a really short time to load Opera. Be also aware that having a more charged RAM can:
slow down your device
drain battery more quickly (this is the problem I'm trying to fight by all means!)
I think that HTC decided to load Opera at startup "just for the show", to impress people when they discover their newly bought device for the first time. But with passing of time the surprise effect vanishes and users may want to have a more efficient device for every day use. Anyway..it's all up to you guys!!
To TinTin:
I don't like using to much cab files on my diamond 2.
I want to manually insert the changes into the registry.
If I do this:
"HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\InternetPush\EnablePushInternet" value="0"
"HKLM\Software\HTC\PushInternetEngine\Enable" value="0"
"HKLM\Services\PushInternetEngine\Flags" value="4"
Is this then the same as your cab file?
Thank you very much for your tweak
Greetz from belgium,
Jeppe
be careful with this tweak because tomtom backlight will change and turn off everytime device goes to stand-by mode!! I don't know why...
@diego
must have been caused by something else, definitely not related

I don't own a TD1, but afaik it does not come with push internet, hence this tweak is useless for you.
ok thank you
Thanks dude. Got 10MB+ back.
This is the 3rd day I have my D2. Maybe this is the initial stage so I do soft reset more often (install new software). Hope so coz I cannot imagine if the back cover can survive multiple opening per day for each soft reset. hahaha

Temporarily set IE as default browser

I'm using this medical program UpToDate a lot at work, but it only works well if IE is my default browser. But, except for this, I prefer to use Opera.
Can someone please make a script/program to temporarily set IE as def. browser? What I'm thinking of is a Mortscript which, if started,
- first sets IE as default,
- then runs UpToDate,
- if UpToDate exits: set Opera as default browser.
Would this, or another solution be possible? Can someone help me with this, I have no experience in programming.
To be clear, UpToDate is working for me (it's not the problem with a white screen you find elsewhere on this forum), but if I open an article for the second time in one session, it open in Opera, and links cannot be clicked anymore. Others are having this problem as well.
BUMP?
Can someone help me with a short script to temp set IE as standard browser and upon exit set Opera back as default?
Thanks
I`m also looking for this ...
Cheers~
There is a thread on which several solutions are posted..... a quick way to do this is go to internet explorer, under tools option other select tell me if IE is not default browser....., then exit ie, then lauch again ie, you should see a windows that says IE is not the default browse.....would you like it to be?... or something like that, select yes and the fire up uptodate..... in a second I will post the link to the thread with other automatic solutions....
Anyway, there is a problem about scrolling in uptodate, but there is also a solution, FStouchl.... If you know mortscript, could you write a mortscript that launches fstouchl when uptodate is lauched and close it when it closes? thanks...
link to the thread, here you go....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5661154#post5661154
anyhow, I am on dutty's HG1.7 21898 and I do not need to use any kind of hacks to run uptodate, not even selct ie as default, only fstouchl .... just my 2 cents.
Thanks for replies.
The fix you gave is functional if UTD is not working at all (white screen bug). UpToDate is running well for me, but there is aother small bug if I open an article for the second time in one session, it opens in Opera. This can be solved by making IE one's def. browser. So I was looking for a script to temporary do this.
Do you experience this bug as well?
It's not a major task, so I'll write you an application to do it. I'll have a play around and try and get something together for you this afternoon. Just one thing - what's the UpToDate exe called?
OK thanks. The UpToDate exe is named UpToDatePPC50.exe, and for me it is located in \Storage Card\Program Files\UpToDate.
Could you please make it revert back to Opera as default browser upon exit of UpToDate?

Basically, you'll need to rename the current UpToDate exe to something else (not decided yet) and I'll call this application UpToDatePPC50.exe. That way, your shortcuts will run this application instead. It will read the default browser (in case you ever change it to something else) and then set it to be IE. Then it will run the program and finally revert your default browser to the original when you exit.
It's pretty straight-forward, but I'll PM you with a link when it's ready for you to test. Once you're happy, I'll attach it to this thread as a zip. Hopefully, I'll get something to you later today

This has actually turned out to be a much bigger job than expected. When I first saw this I was under the impression that the default browser was identified by 1 registry key. Unfortunately, that's not the case. There's a LOT of registry keys that are affected by your choice of default browser.
I'll still do this, but it won't be soon as I already have some major projects underway. All I can suggest is subscribing to this thread so you get an update when I've done something.
Johncmolyneux , I hope that you will not forget about this !
Cheers~
I now use the Mortscripts that are available for this for using UpToDate, they work fine, and only one extra tap is needed. You will find them if you search this forum for UpToDate.
I`ve did but no luck .. Maybe I`m missing something . Could you be more precise ?

I'm glad you found a way to do this. I've just not had the time to even look into it, so it's a relief to me that you've got it sorted. Nice one mate
To clear things up: we are talking about the "white screen issue"* here, not about a license issues or things like that.
There are several solutions here on XDA for the white screen problem. I've tried them all, and now it is working. I'm not complete sure which one solved it for me though .
I'm almost sure this worked for me:
2: Install dr. Tom's UptoDate fix (which is a .cab.).
3: After that install Mortscript 4.2, also a .cab (to be able to run the scripts)
4: Download the two scripts and place them on your device. (one for uptodate and one for internet explorer)
5: Open the uptodate script in a text editor and check if directs to the correct location of the uptodate executable (depending on if you installed uptodate on your device or storage card). Modify and save if necessary.
6: Run the uptodate script to start upto date. Run the IE-script to start IE. You will notice IE does not work after running the UTD script, untill you run the IE script again. And vice versa.
Good luck!

[Q] Too many mp3 files

Hello,
I've just bought an HTC HD2.
I received it like this :
- Rom : netDrg 2.5j
- Radio : 2.10.50.28_2
Here is my problem :
I copied lots of mp3 files on my SD card, about 2000 files.
When I start the player, I must wait about 30 sec before getting any song, and I must wait about 2 hours to get the list of artists or of albums. I think theses lists are built with the tags.
When I do the same thing with 300 files, there is no problem, everything works fast.
I tried with other players (Gsplayer and Tcpmp), its the same.
Could anyone tell me what to do : another player ? another Rom ?
Thank you... and excuse me for my bad english ;-)
Pascal.
Try Nitrogen. If you are having trouble with that i would start looking at the collection itself as a possible source of your issues. (Perhaps the Tag data needs cleaning up or you have a couple of corrupt files in there).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523505
It doesn't speed up after time? I would think once it gets the info tagged it would then be done and move quickly. It has to do the initial cataloging though.
Hello and thank you for your first answers.
I've already tried nitrogen with the same bad results.
And Joshme, you're right, its better after the initial cataloging : no need to wait 2 hours, but "only" 30 sec
Another problem : this cataloging action is done again after a power off, a reboot or even a PC connection in UBS mode. It reacts as if it doesn't record this database.
Concerning the tags, I did them myself for all the files with a tageditor on a PC : I replaced all the tags with "artist name - song title" read from the mp3 file name.
I thout it was a good way to have something clean. Wasn't I right ?
Pascal.
Hello
I found the solution.
I dispatched my files into several directories : 100 files per directory (instead of 700 )
Now, initial cataloging lasts 78 sec instead of 2 hours !
Great !
Its maybe a limitation of WM6 ?
Anyway thank you for your help.
Pascal.
You've stumbled upon the correct solution! Now that you've said it i remember having to do this myself when i used WM. Any folders with more than 100 songs in were split into two folders of 50+ and then everything loaded much faster and smoother.
Well it doesn't apply to me and my droid, but still good to know. Thanks!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
