I wonder how many impatient yet curious people out there, who is going to go back to RC33, just to try out the cupcake and go back to having root again. I don't see myself missing any features from the update. perhaps more lacking than anything else if I choose the by the book upgrade method. I have never used the myfav app. Maybe I would welcome the IM app more so than anything. I would love to see the H build camera appear on the next root cupcake build.

I'm just sad that it won't have Flash. After the video demoing a full version of Flash on a G1 a while back, and the rumors that it'd be ready w/ Cupcake, I'm disappointed that we still have to wait. OTOH, it means we still won't be subjected to annoying Flash ads. *shrug*

And if you look close at that video, the parts that actually had motion to it were incredibly laggy.
Adobe can't even get flash on Linux to work smoothly, I don't think they are interested in making it smooth for the G1.
Heck, they are so inept they are outsourcing the development of their own product to a third party.
Flash could have been a great product, but Adobe has ran it into the ground since the '05 acquisition of Macromedia.

I was running JF's ADP1.5 and I got a system update message from Google... I thought it was kind of weird. Has anyone had that happen?

why go back to rc33 when we can go to JF1.5,Dude1.1a or Haykuro?

Well i personally went back to rc33 because it seems to run better to me, also to get protected apps back. They would install on JF 1.50 but not work it would just force close on me. They worked fine on dude's build but its too unstable for my taste. I also use open home and its not ready for cupcake yet so back I go. Im gonna use rc version of cupcake anyways so might as well go back now. Cupcake doesn't really offer me anything i need.

aHome has a cupcake version (search for it) and it's free. I'm running a bunch of signed/protected apps without any issues.

From what I can remember now, two of them are nba gametime and RepliGo Reader.

i'm on dude 1.1a and have no problems. i have ahome and open home running with no problems. protected apps have no problems (call faker, spades, decibel, etc.) nothing has forced closed on me. and have everything running off sd card

Advanced Task Manager works with JF1.5 ADP, and Bratag has a Cupcake version of SnapPhoto Pro available to customers who paid for the RC33 version.

I've been running the Dude's build and I have no problems with protected apps.
One or two had to be uninstalled and re-installed... But, they worked just fine.
Stability? I haven't had any problems!!! with the ROM.
There were one or two apps that had compatibility problems... But, I contacted the devs and they fixed them.
I can't figure out why so many people have so many problems!! I'm just guessing they aren't following all of the instructions at the beginning.
I will say that when going to the versions with the new unionfs system for apps2sd I would recommend copying the app and app-private files, wiping everything else from the ext2 partition and replacing them prior to moving to the newest versions... But, that was the only "difficult" thing about it. Then everything works great!

Why would you want to un-root your phone? There are no adverse effects to having a rooted phone, its only positive.
As for cupcake I guess it could make sense seeing that the Magic is suppose to launch in May, with cupcake. So it only makes sense for cupcake to be released. And there have been a lot of talks about Google preping dev's for 1.5.

I thought it'd have to be un-rooted in order to go back to the "official cupcake" when it drops.
I dont know why you wouldnt want root, I'll be continuing to watch androids development and I'll be flashing development roms as features are added and bugs are fixed
If you "update" from your phone, when it prompts, to cupcake, that will basically update to official firmware and "un-do" root, wouldn't it?

I believe it will attempt do download but won't be able to install.
Like the others said, why would you want to un-root??! Just wait a day or so after the official update and most likely there will be a JF version. That's what happened with 1.1
Who cares???
I'm rocking cupcake right now with Dudes .8 and Haykuro's H VK!
I'm so sick of the "HEY! Cupcake is coming out on (insert date of your choice here)!" that I just don't care anymore.
The devs on this site have kept me more than happy with all of their updates!
Thanks again to JF, Sterickson, Manup, Haykuro, The Dude, and all of the others I'm failing to mention! You guys rock! Google can stuff their cupcake up the opposite end.
The only benefit that cupcake will bring at this point will be to force the app devs to update all of the apps and the theme devs to make 1.5 themes.
Re the themes... Gee, I think xda-devs are already beginning to do that... imagine that!?!?
Well, I hope the cupcake for G1 is optimized for it. Because I found the Haykuro builds too buggy and laggy, and just not worth the grief.

If you have root now then you shouldn't even receive an update, will have to wait for jf version of update. As far as haykuro rom its great that everyone likes it but the REAL update from jf will work 100% with no problems.

Then the 7000 post thread will hopefully go away and all 25 of its other threads throughout the forum as well.
I liked the Haykuro updates... But, I agree they were too buggy. Dudes' seems to be working very well!
But, I'll be surprised if the posts go away! The Dude build has a lot in it that may not be allowed by T-mobile. So, all I see happening is that Cupcake will officially release...
Then JF, Dude or whoever, will modify it to add all the goodies back inside.
It will just make for a more stable modified release. There are too many custom features in the Dude build for anyone to just use the stock cupcake!
For those that don't speak German ...

I'm not giving up Haykuro's H build unless the modified official G1 has all the good stuff we got with the HTC version. I like my camera, I like having a pdf reader, (I don't think the official Google version has it, but I might be wrong). I also like the H virtual keyboard.
I also doubt that the official version for the G1 will have exchange.
The only way I am going to switch is if I find some really big bug that I can't live with. (Although multitouch might make me change my mind if it's included in a JF build).

I think when google drops there version of cupcake it will be like having the google's update of RC33 and when all the source codes are out the Dude build will be like having RC33 JF builds. I hope everyone understands what i mean.
I think this build is made by Tmobile. But I hope this build would be made by HTC. HTC's designer is very good.
I have the haykuro g build.. and i really dont see anything wrong.. it works just as smooth as the jf 1.42 rc 33

Well, I guess my phone is some special version, as I found it to be unstable, and the browser was much slower.
The Wifi was horrible, and showed a much weaker connection than in JF 1.42
And kept disconnecting. (Yes, I made sure the option for it to automatically turn off was not selected).

TMo doesn't exactly cook their own builds. They just customize them to meet their needs.

Is anyone going to make custom rooted builds of the official T-Mobile 1.5 release?

Just wondering. The reason I ask if for the IM app, not myFaves. I know there are other IM apps out there, but none of them work as well (reliability-wise) and are as simple as the stock IM app, especially when you compare it to the complicated apps that try to use multiple IM clients. Meebo is the best one I've used so far, but I still have issues with that one. Unless someone is working on getting that to work for ADP1.5?
someone is definitely going to make one when we get our hands on the official update.zip
I just can't believe it's taking this long for T-mobile to push the updates (or are then even doing it on a large scale?)
On official update.zip by T-Mobile is already aviable. But the problem in my sight is, that this update.zip is only including patches, and not the full Update. So it would take a lot more time.

What he said.
I'm sticking to my good ol Android Open Source based builds with a touch of ADP1.5
So much more possible that way.

Swype Open Beta

http://beta.swype.com/
Get swype...legally..
nice^^ gonna try it now
Hmm...3mb download or the version I already have that is only 3mb installed.... I bet it doubles in size by the time it is installed. I'll try anyway though
I stand corrected, its just a little over 4mb installed.
I DL it and its ok. its better than the normal keyboard IMO but the whole swypin thing will take some time to get use to
yeah ive been playing with swype for a couple of weeks now and i really do like it more than the stock htc. its much less laggy in my experience^^ and might be like a couple of seconds faster, and im a pretty fast typer if i get going at it =P
I've been using since the first leaked versions and love it, don't even remember how to type with the stock keypad anymore. My main gripe is that thewords you add to the user dictionary don't stay after a reboot. And I swear a lot in texts....so getting duck instead of f*ck blows...other than that, it does come up with some random words and abbreviations some times

doesnt seem to work on my rooted hero. it says when I open it "some features may not work since it is for a different phone". the leaked beta worked perfectly so IDK.
I noticed the not saving dictionary thing too, but wonder if that was just the leaked versions. Just installed the beta, haven't cursed yet so hasn't been added. They seem to be moving pretty quick dev-wise, and this is much more polished and seemingly faster than the leaked versions.
looks better than the leaked version... i wonder how many people they're giving this to and how many times it can be downloaded

This happened to me as well, however I think it may have just been a bad installation and/or due to the fact I had the leaked beta version installed prior to installing this one even though I uninstalled it first. I uninstalled both swype and the application installer then rebooted my phone then reinstalled the swype installer and then swype and all is working now and I didn't get that error message.

Agreed, no problems on Gumbo 2.1
No problems on DarchDroid v1.
I have used it for an hour now. and this is awesome. I will def purchase when it comes out..
basically everytime you install a new version of swype (leaked OR Official) you MUST uninstall the old version first through settings>manage applications
i installed swype last night. Got the email downloaded. Havenot even used it for a day and now its not working telling me to buy the full version?????

Guys over at Android central made a rooted Rom of the newest update thought you guys might wanna jump on this I'm downloading now will report back with results
Nice, will look more into it. Thanks!
Update: I don't think thats worth installing. Some of the apps like FB and Friendstream I usually use. And well its on 1.0 so, its worth testing at least. But thats for people that have more than 1 phone. I need mine fully functional.
It's stated that this breaks 4G on AC.
I wonder what is causing all the rooted roms to break 4g if they are based of the stock one.
Yea its also force closes accounts and sync in settings so its a no go for now I'm sure it'll be fixed soon though
FC is fixed with an update. If you find anything else that is glaring, let us know over there.
The breakage of A&S was due to us trying to keep it from having to wipe out the data partition, since resetting up the device sucks. But we had to repush some of the removed apk's... tomorrow we are releasing another update that will repush the Sprint apps to data, which you can remove at your discretion.
As far as the 4G... damned if I knew. I am going to logcat this sucker tomorrow and figure out why it makes the connection but doesn't allow data to push through.

Heh... 4shared is the biggest nightmare.
We have most of the issues resolved. Even used some Gumbo to get a little more aggressive with memory handling (not really needed with 512mb tho). Happy with the full busybox support, makes terminal entry much more gooder.
Flashing the new radio from toast pretty much gets us better battery life and Wifi signal. oh yeah... and fixes 4G
300 second wait then I'll be giving it a try.

Actually on page 57 there IS a new link that has the newest OTA included so it is new in a way. The link givin by the original poster is a bit confusing though since they havent updated the main page yet on there, but RVU 1.4 is out on page 57
There is also a oc/uv perflock disabled kernel linked in there too. Works with the RvU and other stock/rooted roms.

TapnTap UAT(?) build 1.2-5274

Haven't looked at it yet, but found it in my normal scan (I didn't have the build number that high before, so I must have missed it the last few weeks):
http://tapntap.http.internapcdn.net/tapntap/viewsonic/update-smb_a1002-5274-user.zip
EO July build date. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, as always. I'm going to dissect this tomorrow or Saturday and, if there's anything of importance in there, I'll make a Mountain Laurel update out of it (if the power stays on, of course - Irene, please be kind!).

Awesome, looking forward to your findings...
HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO PLAYBACK IS FIXED, with this build (it was broken in all the previous 1.2 stock ROMS -- 3991, 4349 and I believe 4950). I use the same 1080p main profile video for all my baseline tests, and it's working in 5274 stock.
That, in itself, is a good enough reason to deploy this into Mountain Laurel. However, I have to test if I need to use their kernel or not, so more testing would be needed. Worst case, I'd deploy with their kernel, like I used to do with TNT Lite - but of course I still need to check sleep.
This thing also has a newer bootloader, but Mountain Laurel always includes that. Might be related to the video fix, but again not certain without further testing.
As for other changes, probably nothing much - I'm seeing only the usual app and framework files being touched post 4950, the Wifi was touched as well libvodm_query. The camera is still mirrored incorrectly, as it has been on all 1.2 builds.
EDIT: I have a prototype with the pershoot kernel, and video playback is still working. Awesome - good to see that this is finally fixed.
EDIT2: Pulling out the pershoot kernel and testing a "mostly stock" version, like I used to do with TNT Lite. If sleep is working and battery life seems improved, it might be worth going back to that type of release. If someone wants a custom kernel, it's fairly easy to add it on your own.
I think they finally "got it right" with this 5274, going on my testing so far. A worthy successor to 3588 and 4349 stock, imo.
EDIT3: Spoke too soon - sleep issues are cropping up. Might need to keep pershoot's kernel after all -- no worries.
Outstanding work Roe.
When you say new bootloader, do you mean 1.2 or do you mean something else?
It's still 1.2 based - but it's got a newer timestamp, and I have a reliable source that tells me that it's been tweaked. Btw, my ML update is released - I stuck with a 3.0.0 with a stock kernel, as that's what I used to do for TNT Lite. Pershoot / Clem kernels can always be installed by the user, if they wanted. (I had retested sleep on a clean machine, no apps, and had no SOD).
Btw, it seems very obvious to me that the 1.1 branch is now long dead. TapnTap have only done 1.2-based work for the Olipad and Hannspad these last few months, the Adam has been 1.2 since almost Day One, and all the GTAB TapnTap work since March (3991, 4349, 4950 and now 5274) are all 1.2-based.
Sooner or later there will be a stock release, and it will almost certainly be 1.2-based, again. I would argue that this 5274 may very well be their next GA release, it's just a question of when. I hope Cyanagenmod will eventually swing over.
Very awesome Roe. I have been using Vegan 5.1.1 with VTL mainly because it covers *my* basic needs: PvZ, Keyboard/mouse, hardware acceleration, HD video. ANd I dodn't need to bother going to a 1.2 ROM. I think now is the time to go 1.2 and check out a newer ROM.
One question: does Mountain Laurel suffer from the media delete issue? Is .nomedia required? Not being able to access media on Vegan 5.1.1 (after applying the .nomedia fix) is kind of lousy.

Will you repack as a nvflash package, wait for the GA, or none of these?
Actually, one more question: did you try the stock 5274 ROM and see if it ran any better than before? My biggest complaint with stock was that it was so slow, but I always liked the LOOK of it, especially the weather app.

From limited testing, I had no issues - for example none of my video test files got wiped. But only time will tell and it is a new kernel.
Btw, good point on PvZ - wish I knew what it was about the old VEGAn build kernel that makes it stable.

I'd have to go back and test things on builds 3991 / 4249 / 4950, but I would say that it feels snappier than 3588 for sure. And Nenamark / SmartBench scores seem to back that up. So far it really feels like a solid stock Froyo ROM and it's a shame that there are stock users with the ancient 3588 build that still don't have the option to get this ROM the "supported" way.

I'm going to wait until next week and, assuming the new Mountain Laurel mod I just released doesn't have any serious issues, I'm going to update my 4349-based nvflash to 5274. I probably won't wait for GA, because I could be waiting a long time.
@roebeet awesome work as usual... I'm really really impressed with the speed of your releases... fantastic work... thanks a million for making my GTab well worth the money I spent!!
Hello Roebeet. How was your much deserved break?
Would this happen to have the market included? If not would old methods of getting it on work?
Would you recommend pershoots or clemsyns kernel, what is difference other than 1400 compared to 1500?
Also would you happen to know if than old nvrdaemon file/hack from back in the day than dexter put out would work?
Its been a while seen running stock, always liked it but took honeycomb plunge. Thinking about going back to hassle free stock, flash and hd playback is a plus!
I would think the performance is better than 3588, 4349??? I do miss the back to top of page tab in 3588 browser that 4349 didnt have. Saved a boat of scrolling. Is that option back?
Thanks and hope all is well with weather, I noticed your in western pa, im 20 min from Philadelphia and its not looking all that hot. Need something to do while cooped up. This sounds like it could be fun to tinker with!

Honestly, I think pershoot's kernel is better... It is updated more frequently and includes some latest Tegra changes... and OC to 1400 is definitely much more stable than OC to 1500... without any real noticeable difference (maybe some full HD videos might work a bit better at 1500)

I would think the performance is better than 3588, 4349??? I do miss the back to top of page tab in 3588 browser that 4349 didnt have. Saved a boat of scrolling. Is that option back?

It is definitely smoother than the previous versions (3588, 4349, etc.), but no, there is no "scroll to top" option in the browser...
I took the plunge and installed this update to see if it would fix the SOD I have been experiencing on all 1.2bl based roms. Did the following:
Booted to CWM
Cleared user data
Clear dalvik cache
Formatted cache, system, data, sdcard
Copied file to internal memory and renamed to update.zip
Installed from CWM using update.zip
Clear data, cache, dalvik cache
Reboot
Finish setup and make sure everything works.
Downloaded Flashback 7.2 to sdcard
Clear cache, data, dalvik
Reboot and enjoy.
Funny thing is my tablet still has SOD with every honeycomb rom i tried. Only time i dont is on 1.1bl based honeycomb roms. Everything else is working fine.

Let me answer some questions which I'm sure off...
Market 3.1.3 (latest Market to date) is included in ML3.0.0... along with the olympus (Motorola Atrix) build props...

I agree, yes its smoother.
You are correct that pershoots has been updated, did not think about that.
Bummer on the back to top tap. I think its stupid that they removed that. It was mighty convienent.
Now, what are you talking about with the market. It does not have it. What's the atrix talk about?
Sleep of Death?
What does that entail?
For each and every 1.2 bootloader version from TnT (only TnT), I have problems with the home screen crashing unless I change it on 1st boot to Classic. It happended with Mountain Laurel too, yes the new Roebeet version of this week in included in that.
The home screen will crash as soon as I unlock the screen, unless I have changed it in the previous boot. So, I leave it on Classic. I have ML installed, homescreen changed to classic. All my software installed and now its time for a CWM backup.
Am I experiencing the SoD?
Roe,
It's been a looooonng while since I flashed a stock TnT update but if this is stable I would like to update my wife's Gtab to this most current one. Can you point me in the direction of the market and accelerometer fixes along with anything else I might be forgetting? I would just put Mountain Laurel on hers but she likes the stock TnT interface, besides she is not tech minded so I am keeping hers mostly stock with just the necessary fixes. I really do wish there was some way I could talk you into doing a modified stock TnT update.zip (stock with all the fixes already included). Thanks for all that you do and here's to hoping that you and your family made it through Irene OK.
thx -- still picking up the pieces post-Irene (basement was flooded so I'm ripping out the carpeting today).
As for ML, the install actually loads a stock image first, then I layer all the custom changes afterwards. So, if you enjoy a little trial and error, you could look into the update.zip and alter it to your needs. For the TnT apps, I first delete them and, in some cases, overlay them with stock apps - so you'd need to look at both the updater-script and /system folder, for what you want to alter.

Hope all is well. Good luck with basement. Near Philly I only lost power about six hours sat night into sun, but being under tornado warning in our county and having one roll down our street last year, the old ladyhad us sleep down basement sat night. Basement floor is not comfy.
Anyways what is the best way to go about getting market on this. Been a long time since running stock. Kinda like it but missing market.
One other thing, remember in 3588, while browsing we had the back to top tab that saved alot of scrolling in browser. Also when you would click something in the browser the top bar would drop down and you would see the progress icon so you would know your press registered. Why they did away with these things I don't get, it made the browser much more user friendly, is there a way to bring those two things back?
Never really noticed those before, but my guess is that the Browser apk could be replaced from the 52xx one to the 3588 one, to see if that functionality returns.
Roebeet, do you make any changes to boot.img except to add the ML image?
Also, is anyone seeing any problems booting with 5274? I can't get my gtab to boot with it. Just sits on the boot animation forever.. like hours.. until the screen jsut goes off. Then you can tap power and it comes right back to the boot animation, almost like sleep mode during the boot.
