I have posted here for awhile mainly over the Tilt and Wing phones. However I now have a G1 and I am confused. I first bought the G1 over craigslist and swore it had bluetooth audio working. I didn't like the web on it as much as my iPhone so I restored it and was going to sell it. Most on craigslist just wanted $100 for it so I thought no way I will just keep it and they will update it etc.. Plus I didn't like how my iPhone didn't have bluetooth audio.
I re-activated my phone and now no bluetooth audio... I could be hallucinating I guess, maybe a2dp never was working and I am thinking pf just my tilt. I have searched these forums and Google and every post I see says A2DP came with a "cupcake" update in late January 09... however my phone says its up to date and I can't find how to activate it.
Now I have also read about how people are rooting their phones etc.. I am very computer versed and did custom roms and unlocking on my old HTC phones but just a bit out of my element I guess.
Any help would be appreciated!
Your phone says it is up to date probably because it is searching for a T-Mobile USA update. The Android 1.5 rollout for T-Mobile USA hasn't begun yet. It is scheduled to begin in a few days. When that occurs you will have proper A2DP.
Just wait for 1.5 U.S. update (aka "Cupcake") The update suppose to be sent this week coming according to Dominic, T-mobile forums Moderator.

Ok cool! Sorry to repost if I did (I didn't see anything when I searched though)
A2DP is a huge asset over the iphone imo... its the reason I put the iPhone away and pulled this G1 back out...
Any word on multitouch for the G1 though? I like being able to pinch and resize webpages.

You need to root and mod to get Multitouch on the Browser. JFv1.5 ADP. Also comes with A2DP
Not to be a jerk, but you literally had to gloss over like 15 threads all highlighting how to get AD2P and multitouch on your G1 to get to the button to post your thread. This forum is congested enough with people asking redundant questions in individual threads let alone making whole new ones. Next time try searching, or at the very least reading the sticky threads at the top that have "Read First!" plastered all over them.

And iphone will have a2dp in the newest software update.
Multitouch you will need a custom rom by jesusfreke, haykuro or dude. if you install one of those you will get a2dp as well

I went thru about 50 threads all multiple pages with mentions of rooting and a2dp in coming update called cupcake then I found threads that said cupcake was RC30? however many say the newest update is RC33 also said update was set to come out in late january and it is now almost mid may so I assumed it had to be out. There is a ton of misinformation!

Thanks I am excited because I am soooo sick of Windows Mobile and I am a linux ubuntu, suze and red hat freak anyways so I think once I get going a lot will come natuarally! I am hoping anyways!
RC30 was the 3rd update from Google, then came RC33, which is the current stock build(or build, or at least was until Cupcake/1.5 came out. 1.5 has AD2P and many updates. Those of us with Root access can install cooked ROMS, which thanks to guys like Hayruko and Jesusfreke, are already using the 1.5 firmware and have been for a month or so, along with Hacks like multitouch. This info is all readily available on this forum and places like Engaget.

Most likely this will get moved for some reason, but if you have done all this searching then why havent you came across starplayer? Unfortunately they just shut it down on the 10th and that was the only one I know of. Your SOL, I have been looking too but I guess we will have to wait for Sirius to release one for us now.

what i meant was it was shut down . they used their own servers to download the stream (smartstream). if you go to their website you will understand. they wont give a reason for the shutdown but to my understanding it viotated the tos of siriusxm so im guessing they were shut down by sirius. to futher back up my thought on this, sirius just announced they will be releasing an iphone app which was just what nicemac was about to do with their starplayer. so yes, you can still download the program, it just wont work. i know this because i bought it and got my refund the day they stopped the project. but to lkweaver25, thanks for that.. i browse his site often and havent noticed that, ill have to check it out. i was kinda thinking that we will be getting a program from sirius sometime in the near future if the iphone is since less cars are being sold. they are looking into new markets and mobile phones will definitely be the way to go imo.
I received an official notification that cupcakes US release will start around may 11 and be rolled out in waves.

- Because they didn't have to make sure Amazon Marketplace, MyFaves, Yahoo IM, MSN IM, & AIM would work on it.
- Because a different management team controls Europe than the one that controls the US, and they made different decisions about how long to wait before releasing it.
Pick one.

Of course it will. The one on the HTC page is for the Android Developer Phone, not the US G1. The US G1 version will take away root and add MyFaves, Amazon Market, and Yahoo, MSN, and AOL IM.
i find the htc's 1.5 still really choppy and laggy.. kinda dissapointed with it
I wonder how much of a difference there will be other than Tmobile apps of course.
I got tired of waiting and upgraded myself last night,I also got root access.Tmobile and HTC can shove it up their ass.....we US users pay the highest prices, get the phone first and we have to wait.
The new 1.5 cupcake comes with some nice new features but still kinda laggy, but it´s worth it.
I also see absolutely no reason to wait. JF1.5 ftw.

Having the update coming out first doesn't mean its good, the US may want to modify its update by looking at the other updates to make it perfect
Something that a really like on the 1.5 is the option to select high quality on youtube.
The on-screen keyboard is nice too for quick texting but the buttons are quite small.. since g1 screen is smaller than the iphone.. other than that scrolling is still choppy.. battery still need A LOT of improvements.. btw i dont really know why g1's battery sux so hard since the cpu is clocked at mediocres ~240mhz - ~380mhz max instead of 528mhz.. oh yeah gps is better now.. works even inside buildings for the most part.
Just read this article:
http://androidandme.com/2010/11/pho...-s-phones-will-not-see-android-2-2-till-2011/
The Captivate is seriously the best phone I have ever owned and I purchased it the first day it became available. Now I think I should have waited a few months before shelling out $499.99. But I am getting really disappointed with Samsung and just want to sell it soon. If this is JUST 2.2, imagine Gingerbread or Honeycomb? I know that I don't have to wait for the official releases, as I'm running DG's 9.1.3 ROM, but just this lack of support from Samsung AGAIN is annoying. On top of the lack of timely software support we still have the GPS issue. I did almost all of the tricks in these forums and the GPS works when it wants to. I have to have it work all the time. I'm thinking of when these new dual-core phones come out in the coming months of just selling my beloved Captivate and getting something else that's not made by Samsung-- as the only thing I will truly miss will be the screen. At this point Samsung might as well just skip 2.2 and go straight to 2.3 but we know they won't do that. Hopefully the Nexus S turns out to have fewer issues. /rant
Who is the "we" you are referring too? I guess you are a canadian fascinate owner as that is the only model that was stated for a 2011 update to 2.2.
Seriously, you are speculating on an article that is all speculation itself and creating FUD for others.

Go to Twitter.com/GalaxySSupport and look at how many times they specifically say the Captivate will have Froyo by the end of the year.
From what I understand, it's ATT, not Samsung causing any delay. In any event, I'm fine with 2.1...I don't see the huge features brought by 2.2 anyway
At this point we may as well just wait for someone to cook some gingerbread.
Froyo
According to Samsung Galaxy S Support, we should have 2.2 by the end of this year.

I also work at AT&T and i've heard no such date as to when the official 2.2 roll out is going to happen.
yeah if you here a date it is unofficial and subject to change at any moment, usually it will get delayed not pushed up. the att reps i have talked to are kept in the dark until the release day in most cases. the truth is that att is quite lazy.
back in september when we all thought a froyo release was coming soon i spoke to a samsung engineer who quoted "we are working on the froyo update around the clock" and "the wait should not be unusually long" well the lanuage hes used of "working around the clock" put my expectations around november. now who knows.

Even when the official 2.2 update comes out, I honestly don't see myself, or a lot of the xda community switching over to it. With DG doing great work on the Cog builds and a lot of people following in his footsteps to provide us new roms, the official Samsung and ATT approved updates will always be just mediocre at best.

Well the thing is, we have to wait n see what bootloader it has, if it the old one or the one that we can downgrade, then we can root, and if we can root, ummm im pretty positive we can flash any rom from the Desire HD rom section.

Momentarily. The Aria will still need support for CM. I'm it. This device is established and has good support already. We just need to document the procedure to root and get custom recovery on it, which will be a little more complex than the Euro DHD.
regoice, the great and mighty attn1 has come to the inspire, not sure if its a good thing or not as i still am using my aria but.... oh well.
I will have this phone when it comes out on the 13th, looking forward to some modding. I'm coming from an iphone, JB, customized etc, it's no longer any fun. Hope the roms work and the root is easily attainable, I will be back in here when i get the phone....5 days
I will be getting one of these on launch, though I'm not sure if stores are going to have the phone for a more expensive price than what's shown online. I'm coming from an HTC Fuze and this will be a big improvement for me....now I'll have a nice shiny new gadget to sleep with.
I'm hoping that by some stroke of luck I'll get one that allows sideloading but if not, there are ways around that....I don't like my devices being locked in any way. How long does it generally take to root new phones when they're out? I'm new to Android (been a WM person for quite a few years now) so I'm still trying to read as much as I possibly can about the OS and how it works.

One thing I didn't see in those articles was the radio firmware for the phone. I've installed and tested... quite a few radios on my Fuze in order to achieve the best possible phone and GPS signal I can get. Is this possible once the phone is rooted?

I'm with you buddy, we all look forward to such work.
I have the phone as of this afternoon, already put a full body shield so I cant play with it as much as Id like to however.
Tomorrow Ill take it out after the settling in process of the skin.
I just got the update and for the first time it was nice to be up to date with security patches for a change lol... the previous updates were usually a month or two behind..
But the download didn't specify fixes or improvements, I wonder if anyone knows a way to find out if there are any, like at the sprint website with a change log.. I can't seem to find one as I used to find one with previous phones with sprint.
the update was about 650 mb.
and nobody to update it to zv9. Seems the rom community has halted.
hi guys my phone update to zv8 can i do downgrade firmware to zv6 or earlier ?
No u cant unfortunately
I'm almost willing to forego my root and hotspot for an updated phone at this point. Particularly because every rom I've tried has been a goddamn Bluetooth nightmare, and somehow I suspect aosp isn't going to be better because I've never had a phone run aosp without Bluetooth issues, and I've tried 9 phones.
Hey guys, this is a new phone to me (was rocking a release date Note 3 until last week), and unfamiliar with this forum specifically. (Not sure how I like sticking all the carrier variants in one section, but given the relative obscurity of the phone, I guess it makes sense...)
This seems like as good as any place to ask fellow Sprint V20 user w/o creating a new(b) thread unnecessarily?
I'm also on the ZV9, and it's been so long since I've had an unrooted phone, I had forgotten how much of a pain in the ass it is. True adblocking alone is driving my need for root here.
Is my phone rootable with this version of software? Is the Dirty Santa the way to go? Thanks in advance!

Ugh. Thanks for the response.
The phone is brilliant (after rocking the same phone for over 4 years, even last years phone feels like magic), but this might end up being a deal breaker for me.
Do you know off the top of your head what carrier models are still rootable?
My MNVO carrier (Ting) has other options of carrier models I can use, but T-Mob seems to be the most compatible.
Either way, thanks again for the quick response. ((I apologize for the non-searching, noobish questions, it's been a few years since I was an XDAddict, and still feeling my way around this new forum section.))

No s**t. That's abysmal. How long has this model been like this? Is root a WIP, or a done deal unless LG/carriers relinquish?
I swear to F'ing gawd, this is the last time I buy a device w/o researching the ... heck out of it here first. IDK what I was thinking.

yeah, the unpaid work of XDA devs is a thankless job. I try to make donations to devs that have made my life better.
And I suspect with the relative obscurity of this phone, there won't be much more root dev'ing happening at all.
Might have to make a new device gameplan. And I really, really, never want to go back to Samsung.
Thanks for entertaining my questions, you've been helpful, man.

I just got the v20 ls 997 also has zv9 preinstalled. I've been reading the forums and there is still active work on root for these phones. Thats all I know. Seems like they are trying to create a kdz or tot file since sprint never released one for this phone. Also there is a thread about creating a universal lg bootloader solution. I think there is some active work in the G6 forum and they talk about how it could help other models.... Just keeping my fingers crossed because I too haven't had a nonrooted phone in about 5 years and I don't like it. nope. don't like it one bit. The v20 is good but would be a dream if I could get root. heres to staying hopeful and keeping an eye on the resale market value.

Interesting! Good info, I'm still digging through this forums on this device, trying to wrap my head around it.
This really is a 'best bang for the buck' phone right now, esp if one is on a budget, getting a slightly older device. (I was limited to 300 or less by the wife in my search for a device to replace my old Note3) Plus the removable batt, the SD card use, a jack, a great cam...
I don't even use root that extensively (not a flashaholic anymore), but for the 2 or 3 reasons I do, it's important.

I switch ROMs but really just being able to block all the ads! I didn't realize there was so many. And creating a back up shouldn't be so hard. Don't even get me started on all the background stuff apps are doing! And really there are so many great features missing from stock experience.

Yup. That's the NUMBER ONE reason for me. True adblocking.
Been doing my normal browsing for the last week on this unrooted device, and (long stream of explitives here) the amount ads that I had forgotten about are stunning.
Getting rid of bloatware would be nice as well.
Have to admit though, stock LG isn't horrible, compared to Samsung.
(used all my thanks for the day, damnit)
anybody knows if zv9 nougat version for sprint lg v20 can be gsm unlocked?

I've been using Ad-guard and does a pretty good job at blocking ads for the most part.
