Changin Bluetooth temp folder so we can get bigger files? - General Questions and Answers

I think there is a serious problem on Winmo devices that I noticed. My friend tryed to send me a video file which was 32mb huge. I had about 57 MB internal space free so he send me the file trough bluetooth and it recieved well but after I clicked "yes" on the "do you want save the file" screen it denieds me that the storage memory is low and auto delets the file!
Is there any solution that its directly saves the incoming file on the SD kart?
Any help would be appreciated!

Use that:
OBEX Inbox

can you please explain me it a bit more please?

Do a search for moBlue, this will enable you to redirect any incoming bluetooth file to where ever you want.

Thanks for the replys!
I already found OBEX and it works perfect!
I kinda like searched a tool like this...

moBlue allows redirecting files to certain dirs depending on the file format...

Couldt u please give how select SMS ringtones from SDcard

i read, for incoming call then we can change this registry:
"Directory" of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring.
then we can move all the ringtones to any directory we want
the question is, how about SMS notification ring?? i want to use the same ringtone for SMS (my own .wav) is it possible? and which registry i have to change so xda will look at those directory in SDcard instead of "\windows" ?
thx alot!!!!!!!!!!
AFAIK, there's nothing you can do about it. SMS notifications are handled exactly like all other Windows notifications (like AS connect/disconnect, new mail, start menu sounds, ...). I think the \Windows path is fixed in the system.
Besides, you shouldn't set a directory on a storage card for ringtones. If a call comes in during standby, the storage card might not work, and thus the device will remain silent.
I have my ringtone on storage card. If it doesn't get picked up, the tone reverts to windows default ring.
i had succesfuly move all my phone ringtone (for incoming call notification) to my SDcard. just move all of them then change the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring
Directory="\Storage Card\My own special Ringtone" (or whatever )
but how about sms notification???? can some1 give me the registry address for this? thx again...
i think that maybe it's hardcoded
as ringtones are a part of cellphone stuff
and other sounds like sms is a part of the pda sounds
prob the same reason why only ringtones can be wma
and normal rings need be wav
also i'm not really sure why it is you need to change that reg setting
i just go into the program called add ringtones
when it starts it load all valid files on my pda and storage
and the ones i check
will be available as ring tones when i go into the phonesettings
thats how i got the ring tone i use now because i fell over it in there
and it came with some demo of everqust and was the sound of a skeleton's attack or something
sorry for my ignorance, anyone can help me where and how can i can i change the registry to set my ringtones from storage instead of main memory?
get a registry editor
go to this reg
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring.
edit the value
"Directory" to point to where you want the files
if you want to have personalized sms tones all you have to do is record(or save as) the sound/file to .wav format then move it to your windows directory on your PPC.
Then all you have to do is goto >settings>sounds & notifications..notifications tab then chose the event you want to change and select the new .wav e.g. myown.wav file for sms its "messaging: new text msg." the file size is usually around 30k so its not really goin to affect your PPC performance...
if you want to have a selection just save them all on your SD card somewhere and move them to windows dir when you feel like a change and delete the old if memory is really worrying you.
a reg edit for storage of sms tones is really not needed
ps the same could be said of ringrones except they are usually bigger in file size, and you would put them in widows\rings directory instead
but then again i rarely change my tones
Speedn
thanks bro.. i've done it....
@ yankee:
in my experience, its useless to change the registry.. even we change iit, the ringtone will be set back to the default , right??? no solution for this, until now... the "guru" said, that because the sdcard too slow, so when a call coming in, xda "cant" find those ringtone in the sdcard so it takes any (the default).. bad luck.....
@rudegar and speedn:
the reason for that registry editing is: we want to keep for ex. 200 ringtones in SDCARD, not in windows folder this way, we dont have to do "right click-use as ringtone " which mean tell the xda to save it from sdcard to win folder. we cant fit those 200ringtones inside the RAM, right??
but somehow, like i said above, this method doenst work
@erwinsie,
I did not point the registry to the storage card, I pointed it to the internal storage of the phone and its working fine with me. I have not tried using the storage card
\Storage\Ringtones
I am using XDA IIi
@yankee...
well.. u lucky to have 128 ram... but i still hope that someday some1 can show me how to store (and use directly) my ringtones collections from SDCARD. mini only has 64 ram
sorry to misunderstand u..

Bluetooth OBEX PUSH - Change default location

Hello,
I have a MDA Wizard and have been trying to change the default location of the files transferred to the storage card with no success. I changed the BaseDir value in the registry, but it does not work. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
yea me too, im looking for a solution. changed BaseDir and even change the My Documents path to Storage Card. Nothing so far. anyone know?
New location for files received by bluetooth
I came accross this program in this forum somewhere. Really good. Give it a try.
Just run the cab file and soft reset. After that, run the program whenever you want to switch bluetooth on and it puts a bluetooth icon on the system tray. double click icon and go to settings and set the dir where you want to receive the file and you're ready to go.
I've tried getting a really big file too just to see if this merely moves the file to the other location after receiving or actually changes the location of incoming files and found out it changes the location.
Let me know if this works for you.

and Version 1.5 Coming Soon
Partial Success...
This is an old thread but I think is directly related to what I'm trying to do. I've seen many other threads trying to solve the same problem, so I won't create a new one. Anyway, first, here is the info:
AT&T 8525
HERM: 100
ROM: 3.62.502.3 (Offical AT&T)
Results:
Successfully transfered 2 test files from my laptop (XP SP2 Tosiba Bluetooth 4.00.22D) directly to my storage card:
AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe - 21,822,168 bytes
Tears of a Dragon.mp4 - 8,572,344 bytes
How:
Added a STRING value BaseDir to the HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OBEX\{000...} set to: "/Storage Card/"
Problem / Temporary Solution:
Using Resco I can see the file in the Storage Card as soon as the beam is over, however the OBEX prompts you if you want to save the file or not. If you click NO the file gets deleted. If you click YES, the file gets moved after two seconds to \My Documents or some files just go nowhere(?). So before I actually answer the prompt, I just copy the file elsewhere on my card and then click NO on the prompt.
Analysis / Conclusions (so far):
1. The official AT&T ROM does not have OBEX FTP service installed (obexfile.dll). It only has the OBEX Default Inbox service (obexinbx.dll).
2. The obexinbx.dll is not behaving as expected. Ex: Why "/Storage Card/" vs. "\Storage card\"; Adding the DWORD value DisableUI does not eliminate the prompts as it should; If I delete the TransportAuntheticate value in the same key, it just reappears, yet the dll is not supposed to use that value as per MSDN2.
Could somebody try to duplicate my results and/or see if there is a way to disable the prompts? Thanks in advance!
Has anyone tried this? Please?
Here are some screenshots to better explain what is happening:
1. Add BaseDir value to the OBEX key.
2. Send test file from my laptop.
3. PPC displays 1st UI prompt (recfileprompt.jpg)
4. Laptop displays progress indicator for file transfer. (progress.jpg)
5. When transfer is complete, PPC display 2nd UI prompt. (uiprompt.jpg)
6. I can confirm the test file did transfer to the SD card (fileinssdcard.jpg)
7. If I click on YES the file disappears (but some files get moved to \My Documents). If I Click NO the file disappears.
So... Is there a way to get rid of these prompts? Or to make them not move or delete the file once is in the SD Card?
Thanks,

Unfortunately, the contents of my HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OBEX\ are the folders Services and Transport. There is no {0000-0000...} folder there. It exists though in the folder Services, so for my device, it is HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OBEX\SERVICES\{0000...}. After adding the key, the temporary storage for the received file is ideed SD Card so I can grab it before responding to the prompt.
Nevertheless, either if I respond YES or NO for the file save prompt, the file is deleted from SD Card and does not reappear anywhere on the device, so it does not get moved, but deleted.
Notes:
For me it does not matter weather I write "/Storage Card/" or "\Storage Card\", it still receives to Storage Card, but regardless of what I choose, YES or NO, it deletes the file.

Exactly. This is the best I could get it to work, by just copying or moving the file to another SD Card location (or renaming it) before responding to the prompt. Anyway, this is kind of an old post. I had orginally done this since Dr. Yar crashed on my phone. Since then, I discovered HTC Bluetooth FTP Explorer 1.2, which adds an FTP tab to your Bluetooth Connections settings, where you can specify the default location for incoming bluetooth files.
Thanks for trying it out though!
PS,
I was trying to upload HTC Bluetooth cab, but there is a problem with the database. Anyway, I got it from VP3G's AddOn pack in the Hermes forum. A quick search should find it for you.

I don't know whether you are referring to this (which is inside my rom), but look at my settings. Even with these, Bluetooth still receives to Device and saves to Device\My Documents.

Yes. That's it. It works fine for me. Is your SD Card name "Storage Card"? I would also try using the browse button and selecting different folders inside the SD Card.

Just tried. Same thing!
Well. That is strange. I don't have a Trinity. I have a Hermes. What I would do at this point, is first, try installing the BT FTP cab over your existing one (backup first!). If that doesn't work, try removing/re-inserting the SD Card and also if possible another SD Card. Could there be a write access-protect restriction on your card that forces the OS to use the default My Documents location?
Anyway I have to go back now to my other life , but if I think of something else I'll let you know. Sorry you have problems
OBEX vs FTP
That bluetooth setting is only for FTP transfers. OBEX is the "native" transfer protocol that phones et al. use. Changing the setting for FTP received files doesn't alter the OBEX ones!
I'm going to try Dr Yar, but would love to find a registry setting for this!
I've just found this one as a cure, about to try it..

Save bluetooth file to storage card

any one know the way to save the incoming file transfer via bluetooth directly into storage card?
my local phone memory is running low full with my contact list. i have no much more space for receiving file via bluetooth.
of perhaps is there anyway i can save my contact sync from outlook directly into my storage card.
appreaciate the feedback. thanks in advance.
Try to use moblue, some said it works, some otherwise
Smart File Acceptor or Sniper.
I prefer the first one because is way faster . + powerfull, you can assign folder destination by extension. it's only for receiving files, not sending. Bluezzard has it all (inlc some bluesnarfing functions.. dial via BT, sms, contacts grabing, etc..)
Bluezzard & Smart File Acceptor (not free):
http://www.wm-soft.com/products/
@DSF, does smart file acceptor works?
How does it works, the file directly go to the destination or it downloads to the ROM first and then get transferred to SD ?
The new moBlue2 BETA works great

Hehe, I know how to overcome this

Try to activate the text box with the path in it and then press the center of the d-pad. This is under File Filters. "*.*" is the default filter which moBlue buffers to . "*.*" is preferably set to your storage card!
A Pocket PC customized version of moBlue will come after the release of moBlue for smartphones, although the smartphone version still will work perfectly with Pocket PCs as well.

nitramk when I click on folder path I have to wait aprox 1minute for showing the folders ierarchy. why it take that much?

why the scree refresh/repaint so slow? (eg: press home, then back key..). can you fix it?
also you may add exit confirmation, i've clicked accidentaly.
i like the receiving speed .
good work nitramk
to bad that it loads slow in memory due .net cf libraries
Running WM5 I-Mate sp5 wtih aku2 update on T-Mo SDA here: moblue2 beta
It doesn't matter what *.* is pointed to with me, this app simply doesn't work. Shame because it looks neat. I tried with setting all my filters up to respective Storage card folders; none of them set up but the catch-al (*.*); created new filters; etc. Every single BT transfer I do from another phone (samsung t-809) ends up in the My Documents of internal memory.
Who had success with this on a SDA? I'd be very interested to know....
Thanks.
have you unticked 'receive incoming beams'? (from settings > conections > beam)
Tried FileAcceptor. Seems to create the correct filters right out of the box which is cool. Interface not as good as moblue nor is start menu icon. Also, every time I load I get 'an unexpected error has orccured in FileAcceptor.exe. Select Quit and restart...'
which I then do every time and then it works find and transfers to the folder it's setup to transfer to. Here's to hoping you can correct this bug Mr. moblue dev.

It was already unticked (don't think I've ever touched it) so I tried ticking it, but left with same results... picture is always dumped in internal mem my docs regardless.
Isn't that for IR anyway? I have always had SurrealNetworks Enable BT OBEX installed if that makes a difference.
I've tested the CPU load while receiving via BT with smart file acceptor and moblue beta2.
smart file acceptor => ~45%
moblue => ~70-75%
it takes a loot of CPU . hope it will be optimized in near future.
@hakujin that options is for BT an IR. If it's checked, the default windows mobile transport will be used.. otherwise, 3rdparty's
You need to set the file filters for moblue (menu > options > file filters). i've edited the moBlue.conf.xml file manually via PC because it take to much time editing via moblue GUI.

Direct copy of files via BT to Memory Card

Hi folks,
is there a possibility to have incoming files via BT to be copied to memory card instantly?
Currently files are first being copied to main disk on WM6 (after you agree to receive) and then you can specify where you want it saved in.
Due to lack of space, I would prefer if it is possible to override the current way and have files going to memory card instantly.
Would be happy if there is an solution?
regards
Horst
There is a BT utility called "Dr YAR" something. Sorry I can't recollect the entire name. One of it's features is it allows you to transfer files directly to the storage card. However I must inform you that in all the times I have tried it over various ROMS and devices, I have never had it successfully complete large files. It always goes through to about 50% and then hangs.
I really hope somebody can create a simple app that can cover for this one annoying aspect of WM.
Hi,
thx for the Info. i also do know of a program called "Sniper", which fulfills the job more or less as well.
But what I was wondering, if there aint a way to get files directly to the card.

Without third party software? I don't think so.
There are 2 ways a file is transfered to your
1. Information Exchange
2. File Transfer
Usually when you transfer a file from a normal non-smart phone, it sends a file using the Information Exchage, OBEX push, i think... This is used by WM mobiles for transferring Outlook files like vCard, etc. So when you recieve files from another Phone to ur WM via OBEX push, you most probably, wont have have control over where u can save the file, atleast by default firmware.
Now in the second case, Say transfering a file from a Laptop, it uses "File Transfer" to send a file. This uses a shared folder on your WM phone, and the file is transfered to your shared folder. This Shared folder is defined in the "Advance..." button of your "File Transfer" service, under the "Services" tab in Bluetooth Settings. So basically select a folder on your card to define where you recieve the files. i have transfered a fairly large file (24Mb , thats more than the free memory i have on my ROM) directly tothe card. kindly note that the files in the folder that you have decided to share will be available/ accessible to the host bt device sending the file, so its a good idea to define a new folder that for the purpose.
Hope this info was helpful
official hermes AT&T WM6 does not have FILE TRANSFER!
Hello,
I'm linking to my other posts in the thread below, since nobody has replied to that one. Anyway, the HERMES offcial AT&T ROM does not have the OBEX file transfer service, only the default Inbox service. In that case I have managed to transfer direct to the SD Card using this service, but I would like to improve the process by removing the UI prompt. Please read the other thread and let me know if you can duplicate my results and/or if there is a way to remove the prompts. Thanks,

Can't write on internal memory!!

Hello. I'm just new in the android world, i have a desire hd with HTC sense.
Target: reading ebooks in italian (my language)
Application desired: the HTC built-in ebook reader, which stores .epub ebooks in local memory root\etc\file.epub
Through: i take a .epub file (an ebook i already own or i'm gonna buy, in italian) and put it in the same directory since the ebook reader doesn't allow to 'browse' and choose files.
Problem: whatever i try to copy and paste, doesn't paste!!! Even a normal .jpg taken from the SD card....when i go and 'paste' it in the root folder of the internal phone memory or in the root\etc, the file manager says 'cannot copy the file'.
It's like i am not allowed to manually write anything in the phone memory.
I have tried two different file managers (ASTRO and ES). Same thing. With ASTRO the 'option PASTE' is grayed out....with 'ES' i can click on 'paste' but then it says 'couldn't copy filexxx.jpg'.
Solution 1: I find another GOOD ebook reader (the HTC one already present in the desire HD is fantastic) which allows me to 'load' files from whatever location they are..... .lit and .epub compatible
Solution 2: if it works, i could just copy the ebooks i want to read in the root\etc so that the HTC ebook reader finds them....BUT for this, I have to be allowed to write the phone memory ------ HOW ?
thanks!!

I Take It Your Phones Not Rooted?
Basically To Do Anything At All, That Has To Do With The System You Need SU (Super-User) Access! In Other Words, You Need To Be Rooted..... Try Installing Z4Root!! Give That A Try, & You Should Hopefully Be Good, As Far As Being Allowed To Write To The System!!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I actually found a nice application (Laputa) to read ebooks. Only thing missing is the zoom through multi touch actions. The rest is ok...i imported my few ebooks and everything works!
I didn't need to write the internal memory, but what you said will sure come in handy once i need again to write the phone memory!

hey. that application is not present in the marketplace.
My problem is now that i set a ringtone for incoming SMS (\storagecard\notifications\filexxx.wav), it is correctly read...but that like if i receive a sms one hour later, the default notification sound starts....instead of my custom wav file. Why ?
So i thought that maybe whenever i dis/mount the sd card (where the file is present), the settings go back to the default notification sound.
BUT that doesn't happen for the incoming call ringtone...which is also in the \storagecard\ringtone folder (.mp3)
ok now that was weird....the 'notification' ringtone is only for emails. In fact, whenever i receive an email the correct file plays. But not for the sms.
To change the real sms notification sound, i just had to go in 'messages' and then from there - settings - choose sound.
Weird that it's separated from the normal phone ringtone settings panel.
so i guess it's solved.
