Is there a thing to install to do this?
I would also like this...
Yeah it would be better then pressing Send on the screen!!
I suppose that would only work if you never intend to use more than one paragraph...
There are several key remapping tools on the forum now. Maybe you would be happier using that and mapping a less useful key.

Anyone know?

What would be ideal for me would be mapping Enter to send, but allowing Shift+Enter to do a line break, like Enter's current functionality.

I'd like to remap the phone send button on my Diamond. And I don't want to use AEButton Plus or any other app. I'd like to be able to edit the registry or something. Is it possible?
bump........
no its not possible, because thats why they are called "Hard Keys"
naw, ather, your Camera and IE/GPS buttons are called Hard keys as well but can be mapped.
If i'm not mistaking it was discussed before and no-one managed to map it.
Gotcha. So then I'll assume all AEButton Plus does is wait in the background then intercept the button call before Windows receives it then issues it's own command.

Topic pretty much says it all. I would really like to replace the tutorial button with a speech to text button on the swype keyboard. Anybody know if this is possible?
Thanks,
Travis
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
That tutorial button serves a number of purposes and shouldn't be replaced.
Yes, it's like swype's main menu. I mainly use it to delete gibberish words that I end up adding when I'm on a swyping marathon. It's also useful to correct a word that's already been swyped.
Not to sound like an ass, but my question was not what the button was for. I know that already, I have only actually used it once after a few weeks with the phone. There is also another way to get to that same menu. So for ME, changing the key would be useful. I was under the impression that making my phone more usable for ME was what android was all about. If I wanted to be told how to hold/use my phone I would have just bought an iphone 4.
Again I do not want to be an ass, but this is the 2nd time(first not at xda) I have been told the purpose of something instead of getting an answer to my question.
So please anybody, is there a way that I can change the swype key to something else(speech to text)? If so what do I need to go about doing.
I would just like a straight yes or no answer, and some direction.
Thanks,
Travis
You probably shouldn't have called it the "tutorial key" then. It made you sound like you had no idea what you were talking about.
Hello, I believe the captivate and vibrant are similar so this may be of use to you:

I know it's not changing the swype button to a voice button, but it is adding a voice button which is half of what you asked for
Best of luck!

This is not mine, but I found it useful as I don't care for the search button as a search button. By looking at the melfas-touchkey.kl in keylayout it seems that the keys can be remapped to whatever you want by simply changing them using a script editor like BBEdit on Mac or notepad++ on a PC. Mapping the search key to the camera, personally I'm getting a 30% failure rate, which isn't good, but some people aren't having the same problems.
Something to look into if you are interested.
Kudos to thatdudebutch over in the Fascinate forum for this, btw.
I wondered about this as well, what do you mean failure rate? You would think remapping would be cut and dry there must be a step missing?

By failure rate, I mean that about 30% of the time that I click the button the app closes automatically or fails to open. In the thread, there are several people who have the same problem, but others that don't. I'm not sure what the deal is, but when I get time I am going to do an adb logcat to see what exactly is happening.
Will this only open if I'm not using an app? I usually use the search button in the browser

Ok, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but if I'm doing a "Respond Inline" for Gmail (as just one example), how do I scroll to a particular point to start typing. Just paging up or down wants to put me at the start of the line, and even then I have a hard time getting to the line. I'm kind of used to the trackball on my trusty N1 I guess.
TIA!

I think you'll need a keyboard that has cursor keys, e.g. Smart keyboard.

I emailed the Gboard dev team to ask for directional keys. SwiftKey is a popular alternative that has an option for dir keys

Hey thanks psychoreactor[\b], i completely forgot about swift and good timing you must be psychic because i done a factory reset after a propper root on my samsung a70 because the unofficial root psge had the link st the bottom and i was getting stuck in a boot screen with my own recovery.. Well i tried, however, i forgot to unecrypt my sdcard... Big dramas and the titanium backup was on the internal which got wiped.. Long story short i was playing around with Grammarly and the samsung keyboards and i could have sworn kne of them had directional keys... As you can imagine, i was congused ss jeck and i had the backup codes for my google slave account and MEGA key on that sdcard thst was ebcrypted... It doesn't stop there though because me, like an idiot started downloading software that promised to decrypt... Yeah right.. Monkey balls..
But here i am now, without two account s lost, tried contacting them... Nada..
So my friend, the show must go on and i learnt a valuable lesson in the the procces.
Always backup productively, reduce mutitasking and focus on one step at a time. AND, theres no place like XDA.
(the following advertisement was brought to you by SwiftKey) cheers ?
Hopefully Gboard implements it, because i love the dictation button on the upper right
