Any way to manually remap a button? - General Questions and Answers

I'd like to remap the phone send button on my Diamond. And I don't want to use AEButton Plus or any other app. I'd like to be able to edit the registry or something. Is it possible?

bump........

no its not possible, because thats why they are called "Hard Keys"

naw, ather, your Camera and IE/GPS buttons are called Hard keys as well but can be mapped.
If i'm not mistaking it was discussed before and no-one managed to map it.

Gotcha. So then I'll assume all AEButton Plus does is wait in the background then intercept the button call before Windows receives it then issues it's own command.

Make Enter Send Text/Emails?

Is there a thing to install to do this?
I would also like this...
Yeah it would be better then pressing Send on the screen!!
I suppose that would only work if you never intend to use more than one paragraph...
There are several key remapping tools on the forum now. Maybe you would be happier using that and mapping a less useful key.

Anyone know?

What would be ideal for me would be mapping Enter to send, but allowing Shift+Enter to do a line break, like Enter's current functionality.

Any way to change a button on swype keyboard

Topic pretty much says it all. I would really like to replace the tutorial button with a speech to text button on the swype keyboard. Anybody know if this is possible?
Thanks,
Travis
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
That tutorial button serves a number of purposes and shouldn't be replaced.
Yes, it's like swype's main menu. I mainly use it to delete gibberish words that I end up adding when I'm on a swyping marathon. It's also useful to correct a word that's already been swyped.
Not to sound like an ass, but my question was not what the button was for. I know that already, I have only actually used it once after a few weeks with the phone. There is also another way to get to that same menu. So for ME, changing the key would be useful. I was under the impression that making my phone more usable for ME was what android was all about. If I wanted to be told how to hold/use my phone I would have just bought an iphone 4.
Again I do not want to be an ass, but this is the 2nd time(first not at xda) I have been told the purpose of something instead of getting an answer to my question.
So please anybody, is there a way that I can change the swype key to something else(speech to text)? If so what do I need to go about doing.
I would just like a straight yes or no answer, and some direction.
Thanks,
Travis
You probably shouldn't have called it the "tutorial key" then. It made you sound like you had no idea what you were talking about.
Hello, I believe the captivate and vibrant are similar so this may be of use to you:

I know it's not changing the swype button to a voice button, but it is adding a voice button which is half of what you asked for
Best of luck!

[Q] Remapping search button on startscreen to contactlist search?

Since im not a big fan of bing and the app is useless for search results in my country, i dont like the search button at all and it annoys me when I accidently press it and a useless picture with a textbox comes up... now that this problem is solved with the instant start hack its less of a big deal.
However it would be much nicer if we could map this searchbutton to a contactlist search, like when in the people hub hitting search. Having this same action on the main page. Idk if this is possible, since it is possible to tap into the browser search button, maybe it is possible to change the action for the homepage, or something else.
Anybody an idea?
would like to remap that button, too.
For now I just deleted that button, by removing websearch.exe in /windows/ . should be possible to copy another file to that location

Cool, however I have samsung and cant acces the file explorer. Do you know if there is a link to that file specified in the registry? So we could just modifie that link and see what it does.

There is something comming up which can replace the search button for something nicer, they have still some hurdles to overcome but its comming along pretty nicely i believe and it will truly add a usefull function instead of no results bing

Does disabling it on the home screen impact the button's functionality in it's other uses, such as search within Marketplace?

I have no idea, but for us the whole bing thing is useless so i never use it. Have to navigate to google.com to get the results i want to have. However to call somebody it would be really useful to have it working as people search. I dont mind if this behaviour is universal.
However i hope we will have a fully functional taskmanager soon which will override the bing app

[Q] Where is the "Search" buttom gone?

I dont know what happened, but i am not able to find the buttom to "search" in threads.
Maybe i am blind, but I cannot find it anymore.
Please help
Just confirming search seems to be deactivated.
Also if we had search we could try to search why it has been deactivated.
But also if you click onto a username to "find all posts by..." it says it's disabled. Don't know why anyway. I am a n00b on XDA-developers
One mod said they were looking into it yesterday... no repair ETA.
The missing search function also happens to break the "participated topics" tab of the tapatalk app.
I can't believe we have all these really smart developers and they can't figure out how to get the search back. Very ironic.

More ironic is, that everyone is *****ing that nobody uses the search button, but there are really some users realizing, that it's missing.

Remapping the Google Assistant button

Is there a bxActions equivalent for the Velvet's Google Assistant button? From what I've seen in reviews it can't be remapped in the phones settings (OEMs gotta stop doing this).
Found this. I might try this later.
