Haykuro H build 5 browser lagging like crazy - G1 Android Development

Just for starters i have haykuro H build apps2sd version 5. And i pushed the new non mobile view browser to the phone without a problem. Only thing is the browser is lagging heavily. When i type in the search it takes forever to make the sentence, the browser takes a while to load pages, and if im not mistaken isnt the cupcake browser a new version of the old one thats supposed to be faster? I have app-thumbnails and webvviewCache link to my 4gb class 4 pny sdhc card. Does clearing out the cache on the sdcard improve performance? Is anyone else experiencing the lag? Also i have not moved the dalvik folders over to sd card yet, because i cant find a guide thats shows the ADB version, all i see is terminal emulator and busybox. Would moving dalvik help? Thanks in advance devs

anyone ??????

Opera 8.65 released - problems

The lastest version of Opera has just been released, but the normal way to get the cache from memory to the Storage Card, and also input.ini settings seems to have been removed.
A Cannot find input.ini or the cache on memory or storage card, any ideas on changing the settings (mainly cache to Storage Card and change page movement to paging not "next link").
I simply installed Opera 8.65 to my storage card using the downloaded installation cab. Opera now simply stores cache under \storage card\application data\Opera. Don't remember doing any special settings
On the previous versions (that were in beta) the cache was in memory, but XDA-Developers published a way of getting the cache to Storage Card, but as you pointed out, Opera have done this for us now - I must have been blind not to notice the new place for the cache.
Many Thanks
Sad to see that the developers still have hidden the favorites. Five clicks just to open a favorite is just plain stupid. Specially in a handheld.
How is the performance compared to PIE ?
- Much faster?
- A little bit faster?
- Slower?
storage card only?
I want to install the app in main memory and the cache in the storage card. With the new version im stuck

so just manually create an ext partition. it only needs to be done once and when future updates come you can just update normally.

i would think it's do-able .. maybe difficult .. but do-able .. this would be a one time thing tho .. ie. JFv1.31_RC30_EXT2 .. once the apps are moved and everything you never want to run that update again .. you would then update normally .. so anyone wanting that type of automated app & data transfer would use the old version and then upgrade to the new .. similar to going backward to RC29 to gain root before upgrading
for anyone who HAS apps & data on the card it's very simple to maintain it .. i have the 1.41 update.zip modified in my signature so you don't freeze on the flashing android if you install apps to EXT2
Not everyone uses a lot of apps so the apps they download don't really affect the memoryy, I would say data from, apps like browser, steel maps youtube and market are more important but there is already a script for that. If he decides to make an update that moves apps to sdcard he would then have to make two versions of future versions one for people who want apps on sdcard and 1 for people who don't making 6 different versions each time and then he'll probably have to deal with the numerous people who tried installing before making a partition and screwing up their phone
Also what's the fun if you have everything done for there's no learning plus its only three steps and a few commands not like compiling multitouch
I personally think its not really needed (not to bash you or anything) just my opinion

Sorry man, it isn't going to happen. It is too hackish, and it would cause too many problems and support headaches. (see the apps to sdcard thread for plenty of examples of what I mean)
I just want a way to move all the apps to the S.D card on windows vista p.c.
To play devil's advocate. What about the person that wants to name their partition something other than what is already being discussed? What if they name it /system/sdmount or /system/cachemount? Sure it would be nice to have all apps go to the SDCard, but it is a realitively simple procedure and it does not address the issue of people that are having issues with formatting their SD card to begin with. IMO all it would solve is a timesaver for those of us that already have it done and dont want to repeat the steps every time a new JF ROM comes out
The ability to run apps from the SD Card is something I would wait for Google to officially support. The current method is far too crude to put into JF's ROM.
Stability is an issue.
Lets start smaller. Maybe have a script included that redirects all caches to the sd card.
Maybe even a "root only app" that comes with the next JF update that allows you to choose which cache links are enabled/disabled.
That would save more than enough space.

This is much more reasonable. The cache for some of the apps was the problem. Once the cache is redirected onto the card all sorts of room opens up on the phone. Now, once paid apps appear they may get prohibitively bigger, but really if you push all the apps and cache onto the card then what is the purpose of the internal memory on the phone?
I think that it would just be easier for someone to make a bat file that auto for format, backup and add the needed files to the phone. That way all people have to do is type in a few info in dos and it will do all that is needed.
Maybe ill get around to making one.
YES TRUE
True the official SD CARD Hack is a bit difficult in the procedure but
it works. Its the SD Caches & Data hacks that are bit of a problem.
but that problem get s solves when u move one apps data at a
time.....instead of all at once...feel me.
Honesty, the best thing to do is get a "Droid Sans Tweaks" type app
that converts the files backs up the 2 system files through root
access & restores them when u do an undo & it should also be albe to
Rebot the G1.
Would This Be Feasable & would someone be willing to type a letter to
droid San Tweaks or ask them if they would do this??
If Droid Sans did this the only thing a perso would have to do is
split his SDcard in two partions. & the new "JF v1.41 RC30" Modded ROM
has FDISK in it now in order to partion your SD Card right from your
phone.
DroidSans app already Reboots the G1 & changes scrpits for auto rotate
on the phone. People are sleeping on this app.
EDIT: I wrote him a letter already. Ill let u know his reply when he gives it.

Going From JF rc33 to thedudes 1.5 issue

Ok, I asked this in theDudes thread for this release but it wasnt answered.
My question is this. I have went from Rc33 to the 1.5 cupcake build. I absolutely love it. Now, on JF's build i was using the apps to sd mod. So currently I have been running all my apps on my sd. Now that I have updated to theDudes, all of my apps are there, but my phone storage is pretty low.
Are all my apps on my sdcard still? All of them are showing up on phone. how do i figure this out, and or get my phone memory back??
thanks guys!
bump
Anybody suggestions?
All i know is I did an update without a wipe comming from jfrc33 with apps to sd mod by lucidrem. Now all my apps show up, but my available memory is 33mb.
Did my apps somehow make it back to the phone memory? I read that after an install there should be 51mb free. So im missing almost 20.
Anyone?
If you went from RC33 to TheDude's you probably need to do a wipe and then flash TheDude. Then, create all of your symlinks again. YMMV, but that's what I've heard recommended. I had to wipe going form Haykuro's to TheDudes and those were both App2SD versions and both based on 1.5 --- I'd imagine you'd have issues coming from RC33 to 1.5 without wiping. But I could be wrong.
and 33MB seems like a lot of available room to me. I have my apps to SD and I have 26MB free on /data --- and that's after freshly clearing my browser cache. (I dont have my caches to SD yet.)
Well, oddly enough when i flashed and didnt do a wipe, my phone came back exactly as it was b4 it was powered off. I noticed that the memory was alot lower than what i was used to getting, but that could be the build.
Anyway, I wiped the device and had to do the whole initial setup and all.
From this point, how do i do apps to sd on this rom? can you point me to a link?
I know with jf's you run the commands through the telnet.. but i dont think thats the case here. I looked through the thread, but nothing.
look under the applications tab for dev tools. There is a terminal emulator there.
type su at the prompt then enter the commands. You may need to boot to the recovery console: (power down phone, press home + power until text appears, press alt + x) Once at the recovery console type the sym links to complete the transition.

Make sure you have your card partitioned correctly first.
I went straight to Dude's .8 apps2sd nowipe from JF's RC33 and everything works perfectly but I only have 20mb free.
I've only moved apps, not data or cache, so that may be why. I'm seeing all these people claiming 50-70mb free though and it makes me jealous. I may be just imagining it, but it seems when I start getting down to this amount of free space, the phone tends to get a little laggy.

I had the cache moved to SD for a long time. Then at around 80 installed apps, internal space started to become a real problem. I got tired of managing apps on a daily basis, not to mention the dismal performance of the phone when memory gets tight.
So I broke down and bought a class 6 card and partitioned. I initially tried moving both apps and data. It was a disaster. I never could get to work...either it never thought the apps were installed, or the phone got stuck at the flashing android.
I tried scripts, and even making the symlinks by hand. Nothing helped. I think I must have done a factory wipe about a dozen times trying to get it to work.
I finally ended up just moving the apps, but not the data. That worked just fine and has been working ever since. I think people who are moving both must not have very many apps installed in the first place.
If space starts to get tight again, I'll try moving the caches. In the meantime, I'm hoping Google/T-Mo makes and effort to resolve the lack of internal memory another way.....other than expecting us to buy a new phone.
I'm keeping a sharp eye on NuviPhone....4GB internal memory...I'm sure it won't be long before someone has Android running on it.
I have the same issue. 19mb available after cleared cache. updated from lucid rem mod to .8 apps2sd. had about 42mb free before update. It showed me having 18mb free originally, not sure why i have 19 now, although I did uninstall powermanager since it doesn't work on Dudes build. but that should have been installed to sd?!

I just moved dalvik-cache to sd card and went from 18mb available to 57mb in Dudes build.
Try this
I actually ran into the same senario when I went from RC33 to theDudes cupcake! I went back and reflashed my phone and went back to the RC33 build with mod, think that was 1.42, then instead of using LuciREM apps to sdcard i tried using MarcusMaximus's. They both move apps to sdcard and both work great. I realized on MarcusMaximus's edition after running commands in the terminal we rooted from recovery and mounted in recovery as well. I guess that did the trick for me, so now i'm using theDudes cupcake on a apps to sd command from MarcusMaximus. Thanks to all these guys, they rock from JF, LuciREM, MarcusMaximus and theDude. Hope it helps!

I agree with u, but im wondering if it would be possible to install apps directly to the SD card, i hope google can do something to make it work. If tried allocating my apps to my sd card twice and i failed, the first time it seems i got success but after i while, applications like ahome forced me to close, which was not good, not only with this one, so then i thought maybe it would be good idea to reboot the phone so i turned off and when i turned on, it got stuck in the splash image, buu anyway i fixed by deleting my ext2 partition and rebooting my phone with another build...after a while i tried to make a partition using only the phone and running some command...and i got the same problem, so i guess allocating app2sd doesnt work for me .Anyway the internal space still is not a problem for me cause i have 71apps with 20Mb free..not so much i know....im still having JFv1.42 RC33 but i guess i will move to dude .8 build i heard a lot about that build...so seems to work good for now...but people are demanding many things from his build. What im happy is to be part of this community cause when i got the problem with my phone i couldn't use it for 2 days, i didn't know what to do..and was asking questions to everyone, but i guess everything is in this forum, we just have to read, i learned a lot thanks to the contributions of guy like you, that share experiences with their phones...thank u guys and of course to the developers that make android be better.
Greetings from Peru

Some questions about CM6,and freshly rooted mytouch

i just rooted my phone to CM 6, using the one click root and ROM manger, which is wonderful. but i have a couple questions.
1. how does the apps2SD work? i know you can save the apps to the SD card, blah blah blah, but what does it mean? will the apps perform less now that they are moved on there?
2. CM6 is using the 2.2 source code, so its basically 2.2. now that i am updated to 2.2 are ALL the apps suppost to be visible in the market? i feel like im missing some of the ones that should be there.
3. sometimes when i reload my phone, or reboot it my apps seem to go crazy on me, mainly my widgets. how do i fix this?
1) apps2sd will help free up internal memory. some apps may lag a bit running from your sd card.
2) as far as the market goes, remember cm 6 is still a rc. i run it on the mytouch 1.2 and my wife has it on her mytouch. its stable enough for everyday use but ive ran into a few glitches as well.
3) explain some more please. what is crazy about them? lag? not loading?

Phone lags after installing 2.2

After installing froyo, i noticed the phone lags alot more then when it was stock. I have overclocked it to 1ghz. Anyone else having this problem or have a fix for this?
mine actually got a lot smoother after upgrading.. im on 1.2
did you do a data wipe? also clear the dalvik cache via open recovery if you havent dont it
same here. for those who said its smoother, can u please check how long does it take to start a new app, as in how long does it take for the app to pop up from the moment u click the app in the app drawer/desktop to the time the app pops up? on 1.1 its almost instantaneous but on 1.2 it takes about 4 to 5 secs for the app to open.
it will depend if your apps are installed in the internal storage or on the external SD
Try formatting your SD card.

Less then a second to open in my case. I really don't have any problems with the new update. I'm using a class 4. 8gb memory card that was partitioned with gparte. And dalvik cache is still in phone memory.

I had this problem with 1.1b but I only wiped data, i didn't wipe cache or dalvik. When I installed 1.3 I wipe just cache and dalvik and the 4-5 sec delay is gone.
remember that if ypu install a new update for the custom rom you will always need to nuke the dalvik cache.
its due to the rom not being able to repopulate the cache properly. causing slow down in the system
Lag on wanted and dexters
Using Dexter's 1.3 ROM: Very noticable lag even after a full system/dalvik wipe. opening internal memory apps took at least 4 seconds and even with 800MHz overclock homescreens were jerky.
Using Wanted/Dexter's 1.2 ROM: The lag is less, about halfway between the original 2.1 French sbf I had before and dexter's 1.3. Only problem I find now is that some apps (etc. endomondo and tweetdeck) will force close on opening (only did a dalvik wipe for this one). Tweetdeck still gives update notifications curiously.
Also depends on the app. When a app is heavier, it takes longer to load with the specs we have on the XT720. For example, the browser and Trillian start immediatly (and I am on latest version from Dexter btw), but Angry Birds takes about 6 seconds to load. Simply 'cause it's a heavy app. Same for Pig Rush.
overall 2.2 froyo on XT720 runs way faster and smoother than the original 2.1 that it was shipped with.
at least that's my experience

yep, its definitely faster then the 2.1 that its shipped with.
but it may not be faster then the 2.1 with JIT add-on...and that had more ram available as well i think
noo... i had the 2.1 + JIT add on and it was no where near as fast as the 2.2 from Dexter.
running at stock 720 Mhz feels like it is running at 1000 Mhz
back with the 2.1 + JIT i still had to clock the phone to 1000 to feel what it feels now on 720 Mhz
as for space of RAM, use Link2SD, if most of the Apps that you are using are not Apps2SD compatible

Oh ok, i still have dexters 1.2..not on 1.3 yet which is supposed to be faster.
Will using Links2SD free up RAM? isn't it only the internal phone storage which is affected?
I think I have dexters apps2ext because when I flashed the rom i had a ext2 partition on the memory card so it does it automatically. Does that make sense...i'm new to this stuff so correct me if I'm wrong please.
And does that mean my launcher pro home screen and everything else is on my sd card so it will add some lag- even if its a class 6.
Greetings to all! I few days ago I registered and I am with my XT720 and I hope to learn much, and what we can over time help. Now I'm thinking about changing ROM with Dexters, and I read that many people is more fluid with applications, is a great job by him.
When I go to experience them comment how I worked. by the time I have a question, I hope you can help me .... memory space for application installation is smaller? further applications from the SD? all applications remain after install?

no changes to the storage, you can use Froyo's Apps 2 SD or the Link2SD app in the App section to do the move to SD card
There is a video tutorial on how to do it in the DEV section
Even after clearing data and wiping cache, i still notice it takes about 3 seconds to load apps (and phonebook/contacts) It may depend on the app as there are variance in its capacities.
