Ok, I asked this in theDudes thread for this release but it wasnt answered.
My question is this. I have went from Rc33 to the 1.5 cupcake build. I absolutely love it. Now, on JF's build i was using the apps to sd mod. So currently I have been running all my apps on my sd. Now that I have updated to theDudes, all of my apps are there, but my phone storage is pretty low.
Are all my apps on my sdcard still? All of them are showing up on phone. how do i figure this out, and or get my phone memory back??
thanks guys!
bump
Anybody suggestions?
All i know is I did an update without a wipe comming from jfrc33 with apps to sd mod by lucidrem. Now all my apps show up, but my available memory is 33mb.
Did my apps somehow make it back to the phone memory? I read that after an install there should be 51mb free. So im missing almost 20.
Anyone?
If you went from RC33 to TheDude's you probably need to do a wipe and then flash TheDude. Then, create all of your symlinks again. YMMV, but that's what I've heard recommended. I had to wipe going form Haykuro's to TheDudes and those were both App2SD versions and both based on 1.5 --- I'd imagine you'd have issues coming from RC33 to 1.5 without wiping. But I could be wrong.
and 33MB seems like a lot of available room to me. I have my apps to SD and I have 26MB free on /data --- and that's after freshly clearing my browser cache. (I dont have my caches to SD yet.)
Well, oddly enough when i flashed and didnt do a wipe, my phone came back exactly as it was b4 it was powered off. I noticed that the memory was alot lower than what i was used to getting, but that could be the build.
Anyway, I wiped the device and had to do the whole initial setup and all.
From this point, how do i do apps to sd on this rom? can you point me to a link?
I know with jf's you run the commands through the telnet.. but i dont think thats the case here. I looked through the thread, but nothing.
look under the applications tab for dev tools. There is a terminal emulator there.
type su at the prompt then enter the commands. You may need to boot to the recovery console: (power down phone, press home + power until text appears, press alt + x) Once at the recovery console type the sym links to complete the transition.

Make sure you have your card partitioned correctly first.
I went straight to Dude's .8 apps2sd nowipe from JF's RC33 and everything works perfectly but I only have 20mb free.
I've only moved apps, not data or cache, so that may be why. I'm seeing all these people claiming 50-70mb free though and it makes me jealous. I may be just imagining it, but it seems when I start getting down to this amount of free space, the phone tends to get a little laggy.

I had the cache moved to SD for a long time. Then at around 80 installed apps, internal space started to become a real problem. I got tired of managing apps on a daily basis, not to mention the dismal performance of the phone when memory gets tight.
So I broke down and bought a class 6 card and partitioned. I initially tried moving both apps and data. It was a disaster. I never could get to work...either it never thought the apps were installed, or the phone got stuck at the flashing android.
I tried scripts, and even making the symlinks by hand. Nothing helped. I think I must have done a factory wipe about a dozen times trying to get it to work.
I finally ended up just moving the apps, but not the data. That worked just fine and has been working ever since. I think people who are moving both must not have very many apps installed in the first place.
If space starts to get tight again, I'll try moving the caches. In the meantime, I'm hoping Google/T-Mo makes and effort to resolve the lack of internal memory another way.....other than expecting us to buy a new phone.
I'm keeping a sharp eye on NuviPhone....4GB internal memory...I'm sure it won't be long before someone has Android running on it.
I have the same issue. 19mb available after cleared cache. updated from lucid rem mod to .8 apps2sd. had about 42mb free before update. It showed me having 18mb free originally, not sure why i have 19 now, although I did uninstall powermanager since it doesn't work on Dudes build. but that should have been installed to sd?!

Yeah I Get What Your Saying I Have Like 59MB Free But I Don't Have Apps Installed To SD-Card. I Would Love If T-Mobile/HTC Made An Update Where We Could Just Use Our Memory Card To Save Apps And Data/Cache Without Rooting It, That Would Be Insanely Crazy I Have A 8GB SD-Card But I'm Not Sure It It's Class 6 Dam, Bought It For Nothing.
I just moved dalvik-cache to sd card and went from 18mb available to 57mb in Dudes build.
Try this
I actually ran into the same senario when I went from RC33 to theDudes cupcake! I went back and reflashed my phone and went back to the RC33 build with mod, think that was 1.42, then instead of using LuciREM apps to sdcard i tried using MarcusMaximus's. They both move apps to sdcard and both work great. I realized on MarcusMaximus's edition after running commands in the terminal we rooted from recovery and mounted in recovery as well. I guess that did the trick for me, so now i'm using theDudes cupcake on a apps to sd command from MarcusMaximus. Thanks to all these guys, they rock from JF, LuciREM, MarcusMaximus and theDude. Hope it helps!

I agree with u, but im wondering if it would be possible to install apps directly to the SD card, i hope google can do something to make it work. If tried allocating my apps to my sd card twice and i failed, the first time it seems i got success but after i while, applications like ahome forced me to close, which was not good, not only with this one, so then i thought maybe it would be good idea to reboot the phone so i turned off and when i turned on, it got stuck in the splash image, buu anyway i fixed by deleting my ext2 partition and rebooting my phone with another build...after a while i tried to make a partition using only the phone and running some command...and i got the same problem, so i guess allocating app2sd doesnt work for me .Anyway the internal space still is not a problem for me cause i have 71apps with 20Mb free..not so much i know....im still having JFv1.42 RC33 but i guess i will move to dude .8 build i heard a lot about that build...so seems to work good for now...but people are demanding many things from his build. What im happy is to be part of this community cause when i got the problem with my phone i couldn't use it for 2 days, i didn't know what to do..and was asking questions to everyone, but i guess everything is in this forum, we just have to read, i learned a lot thanks to the contributions of guy like you, that share experiences with their phones...thank u guys and of course to the developers that make android be better.

so just manually create an ext partition. it only needs to be done once and when future updates come you can just update normally.

i would think it's do-able .. maybe difficult .. but do-able .. this would be a one time thing tho .. ie. JFv1.31_RC30_EXT2 .. once the apps are moved and everything you never want to run that update again .. you would then update normally .. so anyone wanting that type of automated app & data transfer would use the old version and then upgrade to the new .. similar to going backward to RC29 to gain root before upgrading
for anyone who HAS apps & data on the card it's very simple to maintain it .. i have the 1.41 update.zip modified in my signature so you don't freeze on the flashing android if you install apps to EXT2
Not everyone uses a lot of apps so the apps they download don't really affect the memoryy, I would say data from, apps like browser, steel maps youtube and market are more important but there is already a script for that. If he decides to make an update that moves apps to sdcard he would then have to make two versions of future versions one for people who want apps on sdcard and 1 for people who don't making 6 different versions each time and then he'll probably have to deal with the numerous people who tried installing before making a partition and screwing up their phone
Also what's the fun if you have everything done for there's no learning plus its only three steps and a few commands not like compiling multitouch
I personally think its not really needed (not to bash you or anything) just my opinion

Sorry man, it isn't going to happen. It is too hackish, and it would cause too many problems and support headaches. (see the apps to sdcard thread for plenty of examples of what I mean)
I just want a way to move all the apps to the S.D card on windows vista p.c.
To play devil's advocate. What about the person that wants to name their partition something other than what is already being discussed? What if they name it /system/sdmount or /system/cachemount? Sure it would be nice to have all apps go to the SDCard, but it is a realitively simple procedure and it does not address the issue of people that are having issues with formatting their SD card to begin with. IMO all it would solve is a timesaver for those of us that already have it done and dont want to repeat the steps every time a new JF ROM comes out
The ability to run apps from the SD Card is something I would wait for Google to officially support. The current method is far too crude to put into JF's ROM.
Stability is an issue.
Lets start smaller. Maybe have a script included that redirects all caches to the sd card.
Maybe even a "root only app" that comes with the next JF update that allows you to choose which cache links are enabled/disabled.
That would save more than enough space.

This is much more reasonable. The cache for some of the apps was the problem. Once the cache is redirected onto the card all sorts of room opens up on the phone. Now, once paid apps appear they may get prohibitively bigger, but really if you push all the apps and cache onto the card then what is the purpose of the internal memory on the phone?
I think that it would just be easier for someone to make a bat file that auto for format, backup and add the needed files to the phone. That way all people have to do is type in a few info in dos and it will do all that is needed.
Maybe ill get around to making one.
YES TRUE
True the official SD CARD Hack is a bit difficult in the procedure but
it works. Its the SD Caches & Data hacks that are bit of a problem.
but that problem get s solves when u move one apps data at a
time.....instead of all at once...feel me.
Honesty, the best thing to do is get a "Droid Sans Tweaks" type app
that converts the files backs up the 2 system files through root
access & restores them when u do an undo & it should also be albe to
Rebot the G1.
Would This Be Feasable & would someone be willing to type a letter to
droid San Tweaks or ask them if they would do this??
If Droid Sans did this the only thing a perso would have to do is
split his SDcard in two partions. & the new "JF v1.41 RC30" Modded ROM
has FDISK in it now in order to partion your SD Card right from your
phone.
DroidSans app already Reboots the G1 & changes scrpits for auto rotate
on the phone. People are sleeping on this app.
EDIT: I wrote him a letter already. Ill let u know his reply when he gives it.

Download Paragon Partition Manager 9.0. I was able to partition the sd card with a ext2 partition on windows vista with this program and move all my apps to the sd card.
Okay. I spent about 6 hours working on this and frankly, as much as i love working on stuff like this, i am simply tired (more from lack of sleep, but w/e).
I previously had a rooted phone (JF 1.43 w/ apps2sd by LucidRem). All my apps went to the sd just fine and everything was stable.
then i decided to update to 1.5 via
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512762
okay..that went to hell. i was perfectly fine on wiping my phone as stated in the steps.
things that happened:
- phone was freaking out since i have dxtop and several apps that wanted to start @ boot (twidroid, Dark Keys, etc)
- most apps did not work (i expected this and i was fine with that)
- could not start most any other app (met with ALOT of force close errors)
Okay. i just uninstalled a bunch of apps and reinstalled them via the marketplace. that's fine. rebooted. and now...i'm stuck @ the android bootloop. fantastic.
okay. let me try to wipe again and install the original JF 1.5 via
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511186
since apparently it supports apps2sd inherently. worked for a while and still kind of does right now. but most of my apps will still not work nor show up. back to unstalling (btw i do this at the settings menu always) and reinstalling from the marketplace to no avail.
so, my question is....
which is the best build to use so i can get apps2sd (i already have a partitioned sd card class 6 and am planning to wipe the ext partition in linux) and a nice stable OS?
i was thinking of the original JF1.5 with Marcus' apps2sd step, but if an easier (and hopefully better way) is out there, i would love to be shown to it.
oh btw, can i actually do any of this from a clean phone? (no apps basically brand new)
sorry for the txt rant.
The dudes build has this setup automatically, just from personal experience and a few peoples issues with it as well, it is best to re-format your ext2 partition to avoid any issues. That build is stable for me, not fact just my opinion. I haven't had any issues besides going to the new apps to sd way, which is why I recommend the re-formatting of ext2
@BSDADON thanks for the quick reply i was actually thinking of theDUde's build as well.
though should i format my Sd card as well? or should i just leave it and just format the ext2 only?
you just need to fsck or reformat that ext2 partition. (formating the whole card might wipe out all partitions or result in some wired state.)
Before I get flamed, I know I posted this in the Sapphire General section, but the reason I am posting this here is 'cause I'm looking for more info from a different crowd. Thanks in advance.
Here is my dilemma.....
Cliff Notes Version:
Got the MY3G, did all the good stuff (rooted, CyanogenMod v4.0.4, Apps2SD, etc.,). However, after I configured Apps2Sd and the SD card with the partitions I could have swore I had 289MB (or something close to that) of free internal storage. I have installed numerous apps and it went down to 278. I know the Apps2SD worked, however what is taking up those 10 megs??? After I noticed this I began rebooting the phone after app installs to see if maybe the apps need to be pushed to the SD card during reboot. No luck. If anyone can throw me some advice or point me in the right direction that would be badass.
--------------
your_helpfull_hand provided this answer:
You do know cache does take up room? Also if you installed apps thats why it went down. its normal
--------------
I replied with:
your_helpfull_hand: This is my first Android based phone so thanks for taking it easy on me. Ok, I forgot about the cache....So, if I understand this correctly the apps will install on the SD card but the internal memory will still slowly decrease but not all crazy as if I was installing straight to the phone??
One more thing, after configuring Apps2SD how much internal storage should be left with (the phone being clean after loading Cyanogen)? As I mentioned I was originally left with 288MB or close to that. Is that about right? Should it more or less?
--------------
So, that is where I am at. If anyone has additional info that would be awesome.
I wanted to dig this issue back up. So let me explain why...
I have searched and searched and tried everything! I'm going blind reading all the threads
I'm using a GT-P3113 (really love this tab). Runnin Stock 4.2.2 and rooted with 32GB SD.
Here's the issue...
DBlind is no longer working and no longer supported. (UGH!!)
Apps2SD does nothing...zero!
SetInstallLocation is great but for games made by Gameloft (as an example), when starting the game it rebuilds the 1.5GB+ file to the device storage. So the 42MB file is pointless to move to Ext SD.
Link2SD...same as above ^
FolderMount completely ruined my OS three times and had to wipe and reinstall the OS. So this is a 100% no-go.
This seems like a GREAT option ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672507&page=33 ) but I can't stop the Tab from going into storage mode when connected to the PC. There's no "Charge Only" option, so this method, I just can't get to work. It looks like it IS working...but after setting it....na da.
I can go on and on thread after thread, but for 4.2.2 it seems there is no way to move these large apps (and data - games or not) to Ext SD.
Now I like my stock roms, and I know CM10 (and others) will fix this, but is there nothing for Stock Rooted ROMS? The whole 8GB is just so dumb when you can only use 4GB of it. I know why the OEM's do this...I get it. Doesn't make it any less dumb. I'm ready to just sell it and go to a Tab 3.
Has anyone yet found a way to successfully move whole apps and data to Ext SD? Paid apps are not a problem if any dev was to revisit this. But so far, nothing is working.
Hi,
My question is, whats the cause for a bootloop after it optimises apps.
Basically I was doing really well modding out my XA, until I tried adoptable storage. It was not really functional using the root essential app. Atleast not for me. So I started to use apps2sd which I found to be really good, alot better at finding the second partition, more options etc.
To cut it short, after I couldn't find what was taking up so much space,
I moved a heck of alot of apps to sd card,
removed some apps, - apps removed - chinese keyboard and a photo feature. I also added some root apps in, and removed kobo books etc :s
canned it,
reset the phone in twrp,
now it bootloops.
My immediate problem is that I can't wipe cache?
Thanks

Had to reinstall the firmware thanks to Malleliu at
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xa/help/bootloop-flashing-33-2-3-81-firmware-t3502160
I now don't have a recovery though, so I'll count myself luckier than bricked and stop modding.
At first I tried manually deleting cache in TWRP then formatting and immediately rebooting TWRP. Whether this was right, someone can scrutinize. So I think my problem was irreparably messing with system apps, which may make sense seeming as alot of apps in an xperia device seem to be linked. And when it did essentially format a non existing folder, it was still not booting.
Anyway peace out peeps, I'm going to enjoy a stock phone.
Wiping cache is useless, use file explorer in TWRP and you will see that there is near nothing in it, partition size is less than 200Mb. Only recovery logs and few things. If you really need to wipe it use fastboot command.
Adoptable Storage works very well only if you don't use mixed AS, only full. I use it with a SanDisk 128Gb class 10 SDCard.
