Can anyone else confirm this.
Also clarity is superior with new Radio
im in Atl,GA and i can confirm im getting similar speeds
my 3g speeds are somewhere in 700s
to be specific
725 down
136 upload
my wifi speeds are blazing better than ever though
3.3mbs down
472 up
the phone sucks sending data but it sure as hell can download it lol
Can you guys post up how everyone else can run this test? Im in NY and wouldnt mind testing my speeds out. Im on adp 1.5 with the latest radio as well ..(26I)
875.7Kbits/s dl
132.0Kbits/s up
3251.2Kbits/s dl wifi from a 15MB connection
387.2Kbits/s up wifi
Im not disappointed at all.
i would love to be able to use "speedtest.net" on my mobile browser soon. It requires flash.

Kb not KB if it was KB 625 KB would equal 5000mbits which is fast dsl.
But yeah i clocked in over 720Kb in my house which gets great 3g connectivity.
Just so you guys know, 600-800Kbs DL over 3G on T-Mobile's network is typical. The sites are only wired with 1 T-1 for now and you have to calculate the loss for Voice traffic.
F.Y.I - I was getting about 1.5-2Mbs on a site that was wired with 2 T-1's.
I am in Chicago near Midway aiport. Tethered to my laptop i'm getting 1.3Mb a second down and 100Kb upload

Just now I got 883 Kbit/s and 112 Kbit/s with 1.22.12.29 (I think thats what its called...)
Now with the new ADP 1.5 radio I get 347 Kbits and I didnt wanna sit tho the rest of the speedtest since the new radio bombed my speeds... this sucks...

I had the opposite happen to me, when i was running an older radio no matter where I tested I never got over 600Kb/s. Once I saw this thread I realized I had never tested the new radio update. The lowest I've gotten is 750 Kb/s and I am in a basement for all the speed tests I have run today. Maybe the network was overused at the moment you tried it
can i use the 2.22.19.26I radio on a UK G1?

Yeah I tried it again just now. I was searching for my last radio and went to try it again. Now my max was 889 Kbit/s and 106 Kbit/s.
I know why its higher back than because Phoenix was still new with its 3G. Looks like I havent had much of a lose or gain with the new radio. O well.

After updating to JF 1.41 with RC33, my 3G maxs out at 1.5Mb/sec. Prior to the update the highest I ever say was 900 kb/sec. JF said there was new radio firmware. My guess is that this new firmware has improved the download speed.
You only updated the radio if u did it separately as he removed the radio from his update.
JesusFreke said:
Note: RC33 contains a radio update. I chose not to include this in the RC33 update itself, because I personally don't want it re-flashing the radio every time I apply this update. Here (md5: cf8714d273fb0274574d9e3831e11fdd) is a separate update that *just* flashes the radio. You only need to install this update once (unless you happen to flash an nbh at some point in the future, in which case you should re-flash the radio afterwards).
To check if you have the new radio, go into the about phone screen in settings and check the baseband info. It should end with 1.22.14.11

I installed both 1.41 RC33 and the radio update. The radio update is part of the normal RC33 update which is why I didn't call it out explicitly. Other g1 users with non rooted RC33 installed have reported faster download speeds too.

Well I'm not sure about the 3G because I don't get 3G at my house (but I do about a block away if you can figure that out) so I have to use my WIFI. Oddly enough though with the access point in the next room I have just enough signal to see the router. Using Wifi Scanner from Market it gives me -68 db. Looking at the WIFI networks in the settings I have 2 out of 3 (bars or whatever they are). Yet on my status bar I don't have any. My speed sucks though. Using Xtremelabs Speedtest I get no more then 200 kb/s when I used to get close to 500 kb/s minimum. I'm not sure if the new radio did this but something sure happened since this update. I'll test out the 3G later tonight. What app are you using to test your speed? I'll compare my 3G speeds with you.
I used Xtremelabs to test the speed. The speed ranged from 1.4 to 1.8Mb/sec. Prior to update I would get 600 kb/sec to 900 kb/sec.
At home using Wifi and a fast cable connection, I get 3 to 6 Mb/sec. However, pc's at home get 16 to 20 Mb/sec so the g1 can't max out the cable connection.
Uplink speed hasn't changed for my. It's still about 135 kb/sec with 3G.
Yeah no 3g here either so I cant speak for it but interesting to see maybe this weekend I will drive into the city and see what I get.

Wow! Do you LIVE in a cell tower? I managed to get about 970 kb/s at about 4 in the morning. During the day at the same place I manage around 300 to 400 kb/s. I usually upload at about 150.
Still not bad though.

I read alot about people getting 3mb download speed, i never ever got more then 600kb...any ideas? is it my phone? or T-mobile service?
BTW with my X MyTouch 4g i got around 4.5mb (i know that the NS don't do 4g but still...)

Its all about the Network in your area, but if what your saying is true and your MT4G got 4.5 down then your NS should get that speed as well
When you get 600kbps, does your Nexus S show that it has a 3G connection?
Also, have you exceeded your 5GB monthly data cap?
just thought of this, are you mistaking kbps to kb/s if it is kb/s then your speed is golden
kbps and kb/s are the same thing. I think you were trying to distinguish between kB/s and kb/s or kBps and kbps.

ya, my bad damn that capital B, hes such a Bastard
but yea you get what i mean
Yes, i am on 3G.
No, not even close to 5GB data cap
speedtest.net shows
657 kbps download and 1255 kbps upload
So no problem with the upload but download seems a bit slow for a phone and network that are capable to do 7.2MB, no?
wierd, you should be getting same results. I had a nexus one, had high 3.0mbs to low 4mb. with the nexus s i get about .4-.8mbs higher, have hit 5mbs alot.
thing is, i believe with future radio updates this thing will smooth out in regards to loyalty in staying in that arena, i have noticed some dropped out 3g coverage on occasion and no refresh after coming out of a subway..which was just wierd.
**just think of it this way, the nexus one got massive improvements after 6months of it existing and then perfected in the last 2-3 months. the nexus s should have the same principles.**
Hi, I have a question for the Nexus S owners.
Did you get your cellphone for $200 with a contract, or $529 without one, or did you find a way to get them cheaper?
And don't you mind that the Nexus S don't support HSPA+ networks?
I am considering buying one.
Thank you.

paid full price, because its cheaper to pay full price and get an even more plus plan
Nexus S speed cap is 7.2 down and 5ish up..which is plenty fast,
What's the point saying the device has a higher cap if the service provider don't give it to us?
Personally for myself, I'm in North Dallas and I never really see speeds past 2-3mbps; even when it says HSDPA. And I rarely hit HSDPA when streaming stuff so it's pretty much a useless 3G.

The majority of all the carriers 4G is just backend.
ya the phone may be capable of 14.4 or what ever but you will never see that in real world situations, 4G in the end just means that there is more bandwidth for all of us to share.
but i have seen 6.5 down on my phone in my city which is blanketed by 4g goodness.
My brothe has a MT4G and he gets the same speeds as i do

Mine is the same as yours. Most likely network.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I have an LG Optimus Quantum, and for some very weird reason, the wifi is very slow. I have daily access to 2 wifi networks, home and work, and the phone behaves the same on both. Generally, in order to watch youtube or any other streaming video, I have to turn the wifi OFF or else the video never loads (or in rare cases where the video is small, it will eventually load).
The phone is not unlocked or anything, and I have had it for 4 months and it has always behaved this way.
My home network gets speeds of 17mb/s on a wifi laptop.
Using 3g right I am getting 120, 224, 224, 130 & 156 kb/s using Speedtest app after doing 5 consecutive tests.
Wifi tests 112, 130, 130, 142 & 130 kb/s using Speedtest app (to perform wifi test, I put the phone into airplane mode, then start wifi connection).
Anyone have any input here?
Could be a problem with the firmware? But I think that must be device specific because I haven't noticed that at all (Samsung Omnia 7).
Guess you'll have to see what fellow Optimus users are experiencing.
EDIT: Actually, I downloaded the Speed Test app and my WiFi download speeds ~300KB/s (apparently). Then did a speed test over my WiFi on my laptop and got ~2Mb/s (eventhough it's supposed to be a lot faster than that). So...?

Same for my HD7. My 3Mb/s DSL WiFi signal averages around 2500Kb/s on my iPhone, HD2 and PC. But on my HD7, the best I can get is around 300Kb/s speed with SpeedTest. It's the same for the data as well. And it isn't anything to do with the carrier.
EDIT - Actually I'm wrong, it's much slower than that. I was paying attention to the bar number and didn't notice the average number upon completion. Mine shows around 200Kb/s. One test was 191Kb/s and another was 212Kb/s.
I noticed this too with the Wifi at work.
At home the wifi is definately faster than 3g but at work the wifi is so slow i just turn it off and use 3g.
Does anyone think that there is a setting in the MFG menu we can adjust that would help?
OFF Topic: What App(Free) did you guys use to test the phone's 3G & WiFi Connection Speed...
Thanks.
Weird. I get my full 10Mbit speeds on my home internet, and full speeds at work and everywhere else I get WiFi. Much faster than the 3G, which gets around 2.3Mbit down on average.
I've got an HTC Surround on AT&T.
the speedtest app in the marketplace got horrible reviews, gonna try BandWidth and see how it does. Right now I'm on my mobile hotspot at work so I should be able to get a clean test as I'm the only one on it.
I have used mobilespeedtest.com in the past but heard it can be inaccurate too.
To the OP, I haven't had any wifi issues. Videos start faster on my home wifi (20mbps), than on my hspa+ t-mobile signal.
Ok, the BandWidth app (free in the marketplace) seems pretty accurate. On first run, I got 590 kbps which is consistent with time warner (aka sprint network) 3g mobile hotspot speeds. Really wish I got 3g t-mobile signal in my office....
I really think this free BandWidth app is fairly accurate.
Just did another test, this time using my mobile hotspot on 4g and speeds came back:
2.7 mbps down
0.47 mbps up
This is consistent with the crappy 4g speeds on sprint (what a disappointment wimax has turned out to be, but still much better than sprint 3g...)

It only works on cellular data networks. I'm needing to test the WiFi speed on my WP7. But, of course, I'm just using the trial version. Maybe the retail version works with WiFi.
Visiting tracert.org via IE on Wifi I tested as 6.18 Mbps (about half the 12 Mbps I achieve on my PC). On 3G I scored 1.74 Mbps in my house which doesn't exactly get the best reception.
This is on a US TMobile HD7.
I get 1,80Mbps on Wi-fi, when I get ~13Mbps on PC. It's poor I have to say, comparing my previous phones.

Nice! Thanks for the link, mate. My HD7 rang in at 2.61Mb/s. Which is exactly what it should be.
I've noticed this also especially in IE. Xda loads up much faster on my 3G than my WiFi. I also notice that is I turn off the 3G and use edge and WiFi it seems that the speeds should be at where they should be at using a WiFi connection. If I have WiFi and 3G on at the same time the speeds are slower....
Testest Tracert.org on my Focus & my Nexus One.
Focus:
3G: 856kbps download
WiFi: 1.4Mbps
Nexus One:
3G: 1.43Mbps
WiFi: 3.94Mbps
Something is definitily wrong here.
Same problem here exactly!
wi-fi: DL- 56kbps UL- 78kbps ping- 1218
3G: DL- 3106kbps UL- 1228kbps ping- 131
Device: Xperia Arc
On my previous phone, which was Xperia X1 I had much better results on wi-fi than on 3G. Also because X1 runs on WM6.1 there are settings to improve wifi performance, Android doesn't have anything of the kind as far as I know.
My modem is b/g, Arc has b/g/n. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I wonder what causes this and what could be done to solve the issue.
I also have slow Wifi . ATT surround .
Mine is coming in at 36.03 Mbps with a download speed of 4.5MB/sec on wifi. I have an HD7.

Have you tried to update the phone, even if you just got it but this could be some kind glitch on the software which could easily be fixed by doing an update.

I agree, it could be easily fixed by an update if there was an update with the glitch fixed or any update for the Arc at all. I have since found that the wifi connectivity problem is caused by encryption. The Arc can handle WEP but using WPA or WPA2 the connection is painfully slow with a great loss of packets.
Doing a fix through PC Companion and reloading the whole system however doesn't work.
ok here's my question. first does the wifi router effect the up & down speeds. What the hell dude, read what the OP is asking. Yes we already know you're getting 4.3m in Orlando, you've said this in like 5 threads now. The OP is asking about WiFi, and HSPA is not relevant to this.

Yes, the router can make the difference in speeds. Your radio version is the old stock one before last week's OTA update, and is perfectly fine for good WiFi speeds. As a matter of fact, every version of radio I've tried (including yours) I've always gotten good WiFi speeds - around 13MB/s at my house (I have a 20Mb/s connection). Sounds like there's a misconfiguration on your work router, or some other issue - but I wouldn't worry about your radio version.
More people on the connection is going to slow it down as well. I'm assuming there are more people on the work connection than your home connection.

Just go to the wifi setting and select your wifi and select modify, you should get a reading on the speed. I am getting 65 on dlink dir 655
I am also getting capped at 72 mbps, someone else in this forum I remember was getting 170, don't know how? I am running WRT320N, Tomato.
I get 65 no matter what.
Anyone know an app that tests wifi speed transfers on Android? Not internet speeds as that is no good. I want to test actual speeds on my LAN to and from the TF.
TF101 does not support double width channels. 72mbps is the max you can get.
I am also maxing at 65 Mbps.
I would like to at least get to the 72 Mbps limit.
I am also using a Dlink router. This appears to be the limit with this brand
Damit, we are far from the theorical limit of 300 Mbps.
And no 5.0 GHz radio neither
