Just go to the wifi setting and select your wifi and select modify, you should get a reading on the speed. I am getting 65 on dlink dir 655

I am also getting capped at 72 mbps, someone else in this forum I remember was getting 170, don't know how? I am running WRT320N, Tomato.

I get 65 no matter what.
Anyone know an app that tests wifi speed transfers on Android? Not internet speeds as that is no good. I want to test actual speeds on my LAN to and from the TF.

TF101 does not support double width channels. 72mbps is the max you can get.

I am also maxing at 65 Mbps.
I would like to at least get to the 72 Mbps limit.
I am also using a Dlink router. This appears to be the limit with this brand
Damit, we are far from the theorical limit of 300 Mbps.
And no 5.0 GHz radio neither

3G internet download/upload speeds

I've got the HTC Legend and have been testing out the speeds of the mobile internet with the speedtest.net app.
I'm in Australia and I'm getting download speeds of 7.7kB/s as the absolute highest with average seeming to be around 4 - 5.
However there is something interesting with the upload speed.. it continually says that my upload speed is massive, in the order of 85 kB/s, 170kB/s or higher, often very variable. Is this just completely wrong? because that's higher than my broadband upload speed.
What are some benchmark speeds other people are getting?
First off tether your phone then run the test. On my phone I get anywhere from 3MB down - 42MB down. Tethered to my laptop I get a constance 3.7mb down .89mb up.
Is tethering possible on stock un rooted legend with 2.1?
I'm not sure, could you share your connect through usb with your pc?

Wifi MUCH Slower than 3G?

I have an LG Optimus Quantum, and for some very weird reason, the wifi is very slow. I have daily access to 2 wifi networks, home and work, and the phone behaves the same on both. Generally, in order to watch youtube or any other streaming video, I have to turn the wifi OFF or else the video never loads (or in rare cases where the video is small, it will eventually load).
The phone is not unlocked or anything, and I have had it for 4 months and it has always behaved this way.
My home network gets speeds of 17mb/s on a wifi laptop.
Using 3g right I am getting 120, 224, 224, 130 & 156 kb/s using Speedtest app after doing 5 consecutive tests.
Wifi tests 112, 130, 130, 142 & 130 kb/s using Speedtest app (to perform wifi test, I put the phone into airplane mode, then start wifi connection).
Anyone have any input here?
Could be a problem with the firmware? But I think that must be device specific because I haven't noticed that at all (Samsung Omnia 7).
Guess you'll have to see what fellow Optimus users are experiencing.
EDIT: Actually, I downloaded the Speed Test app and my WiFi download speeds ~300KB/s (apparently). Then did a speed test over my WiFi on my laptop and got ~2Mb/s (eventhough it's supposed to be a lot faster than that). So...?

Same for my HD7. My 3Mb/s DSL WiFi signal averages around 2500Kb/s on my iPhone, HD2 and PC. But on my HD7, the best I can get is around 300Kb/s speed with SpeedTest. It's the same for the data as well. And it isn't anything to do with the carrier.
EDIT - Actually I'm wrong, it's much slower than that. I was paying attention to the bar number and didn't notice the average number upon completion. Mine shows around 200Kb/s. One test was 191Kb/s and another was 212Kb/s.
I noticed this too with the Wifi at work.
At home the wifi is definately faster than 3g but at work the wifi is so slow i just turn it off and use 3g.
Does anyone think that there is a setting in the MFG menu we can adjust that would help?
OFF Topic: What App(Free) did you guys use to test the phone's 3G & WiFi Connection Speed...
Thanks.
Weird. I get my full 10Mbit speeds on my home internet, and full speeds at work and everywhere else I get WiFi. Much faster than the 3G, which gets around 2.3Mbit down on average.
I've got an HTC Surround on AT&T.
the speedtest app in the marketplace got horrible reviews, gonna try BandWidth and see how it does. Right now I'm on my mobile hotspot at work so I should be able to get a clean test as I'm the only one on it.
I have used mobilespeedtest.com in the past but heard it can be inaccurate too.
To the OP, I haven't had any wifi issues. Videos start faster on my home wifi (20mbps), than on my hspa+ t-mobile signal.
Ok, the BandWidth app (free in the marketplace) seems pretty accurate. On first run, I got 590 kbps which is consistent with time warner (aka sprint network) 3g mobile hotspot speeds. Really wish I got 3g t-mobile signal in my office....
I really think this free BandWidth app is fairly accurate.
Just did another test, this time using my mobile hotspot on 4g and speeds came back:
2.7 mbps down
0.47 mbps up
This is consistent with the crappy 4g speeds on sprint (what a disappointment wimax has turned out to be, but still much better than sprint 3g...)

It only works on cellular data networks. I'm needing to test the WiFi speed on my WP7. But, of course, I'm just using the trial version. Maybe the retail version works with WiFi.
Visiting tracert.org via IE on Wifi I tested as 6.18 Mbps (about half the 12 Mbps I achieve on my PC). On 3G I scored 1.74 Mbps in my house which doesn't exactly get the best reception.
This is on a US TMobile HD7.
I get 1,80Mbps on Wi-fi, when I get ~13Mbps on PC. It's poor I have to say, comparing my previous phones.

Nice! Thanks for the link, mate. My HD7 rang in at 2.61Mb/s. Which is exactly what it should be.
I've noticed this also especially in IE. Xda loads up much faster on my 3G than my WiFi. I also notice that is I turn off the 3G and use edge and WiFi it seems that the speeds should be at where they should be at using a WiFi connection. If I have WiFi and 3G on at the same time the speeds are slower....
Testest Tracert.org on my Focus & my Nexus One.
Focus:
3G: 856kbps download
WiFi: 1.4Mbps
Nexus One:
3G: 1.43Mbps
WiFi: 3.94Mbps
Something is definitily wrong here.
Same problem here exactly!
wi-fi: DL- 56kbps UL- 78kbps ping- 1218
3G: DL- 3106kbps UL- 1228kbps ping- 131
Device: Xperia Arc
On my previous phone, which was Xperia X1 I had much better results on wi-fi than on 3G. Also because X1 runs on WM6.1 there are settings to improve wifi performance, Android doesn't have anything of the kind as far as I know.
My modem is b/g, Arc has b/g/n. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I wonder what causes this and what could be done to solve the issue.
I also have slow Wifi . ATT surround .
Mine is coming in at 36.03 Mbps with a download speed of 4.5MB/sec on wifi. I have an HD7.

Have you tried to update the phone, even if you just got it but this could be some kind glitch on the software which could easily be fixed by doing an update.

I agree, it could be easily fixed by an update if there was an update with the glitch fixed or any update for the Arc at all. I have since found that the wifi connectivity problem is caused by encryption. The Arc can handle WEP but using WPA or WPA2 the connection is painfully slow with a great loss of packets.
Doing a fix through PC Companion and reloading the whole system however doesn't work.

[Q] Fasted wifi speed?

Hello,
I've just upgraded my home router, in order to speed up and future proof my home network, I've upgraded from a netgear DG834GT to a DGND3700, (mainly to add faster wifi and 1Gb ethernet).
On my old router my wifi connection from my phone was always 72Mbps. So I installed the new router and configured it to what I think is all the max settings, however my initial wifi speed on the phone was a lower 65Mps!?
After a while I realised that if I switched the phone wifi setting to max performance it would achieve 72Mbps (even though before with the older router it could always achieve this speed with this setting the other way). I'm no means an expert on wifi..etc.(clearly) can anyone explain... (please)
Another question is, what is the fastest speed anyone has had wifi running on the Desire S?
My new(ish) laptop manages to get a 300Mpbs wifi link to the new router! am I missing some configuration option?
Thanks
I've only had 72 mbps too, with a WNDR4000 -
I've tried setting the router's 2.4gHz to deliver it as fast as 300 mps or at 145 - makes no difference just 1.5 metres from the router.
I don't know if there's any way to set the Desire S to find the 5Ghz signal.
Disappointing
What do you use to check the speed ?
Edit : Also what is your normal broad band connection supposed to be?
I'm on 16 Mb line with Sky and phone pulls in at 8.21 Mbps over wifi
Just checked on WIFI settings on phone and for Sky it says 54Mbps with singal strength as excellent
i dont know much about this topic but have you tried setting the channel to auto, transmit power to 100%,turned on 802.11n?
As far as I'm aware, the Desire S is only officially wireless G protocol so 54mbps theoretical max.
However, it may be like the older HD2 which has, albeit by method of registry change, wireless N support.

1Gbps internet HELP

Ok so i have access to 1Gbps internet so i was wondering if there is a way i can use all that bandwidth efficiently, is there such a thing as a 1Gbps modem? Wireless N top speed is like 100mbps should i get a switch 1Gb, i have 4 computers and all if them will be wirelessly connected so should i her more than 1 wifi router i need suggestions thank u.
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
hmm.. there's a few things you have to consider...
first WiFi N tops out at roughly 300 Mbps not 100 as you think.
i think you are confusing it with the standard wired 100 Mbps networks
1 Gbps can easily be archived in a wired network, with 1 Gbps switches / routers, but 1 Gbps modems are less common, and very expensive, usually reserved for real business use only.
highest consumer based modems ADSL / Cable goes up to roughly 300 Mbps to 400 Mbps depending on country or region example http://www.motorola.com/Video-Solut...le-Modems/ci.SURFboard_SB6180_US-EN.resources
so, please clarify which ISP service you are using, as it seems very confused.
Well ISP is Triolan Ukraine they say its 1Gbps to the port which i believe its achieved by fiber optics so i don't know if they provide the modem that can give me that speed or if i don't need a modem but i have 2 laptops an 2 phones that will be downloading crap constantly during peak hours so should i buy a switch to connect both laptops through wire or can i connect 2 wwireless N routers ti a switch and use 2 WIFI networks hope this clarifies a little about the Isp
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
assuming they give you a proper modem that can actually use 1Gbps, then all you need is a good 1Gbps router to share that connection between your machines, then perhaps a 1Gbps switch if the router doesn't provide enough ports to share the 1Gbps
So is it possibly to connect two wireless N routers to a switch to use 600mbps of bandwidth wirelessly ?
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
300 Mbps on the best connection
but average best is between 270 Mbps to 280 Mbps
But if i connect 2 routers to the modem an 2 different wifi networks can i get 600mbps tops?
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
laptops can only talk to 1 router at a time via WiFi N
I know that, i mean one laptops fir one router, other laptop fir other router

Providing they weren't transmitting on the same (or nearby) channels then yes, but for the sake of the speed I'd personally go for cables all over the house and having 1Gb everywhere!
Lol i am married my wife will kill me but thanks for the channel tip so will be like modem then switch then routers?

even so each laptop will still only get 300 Mbps max, due the nature of WiFi N
also in that scenario you will also need 2 modems, and 2 internet service
if you want max speed do as johncmolyneux suggested
if you want convenience of having WiFi then that's all you get
even if each laptop max out at 300 Mbps + 300 Mbps you still have lots of room left over from the 1000 Mbps
so technically you can have like 3 laptops running max speed (300 each) on WiFi N and still not max out the internet connection, downloading all the whatever you feel like on torrents

[Q] More Bars but Slower Data Speeds

So Im in my house next to a window and I get 4 bars on my ns4g. I have 3g on and my speeds are only 392 kbps. Then when i go downstairs I get 1 bar and my speeds are back up to 1 mbps. Why is that so? Thats stupid how that works. I know sprint data capacity s bad but it just goes from 392 kbps to 1000 kbps with fewer bars?!?

data speed depends on how many people are accessing data. i can get 6mbps download speeds on my ns(tmobile), then 30 seconds later 2mbps. it really is about how congested it is. usually, youll get the fastest/most steady speeds in the middle of the night when the networks arent busy.
