Diamond 2 - General Questions and Answers

Ok so I've seen the diamond 2 and it is great way awesome. Yet I have questions like will it be out on verizon?

Not for a while. They just came out with the first Diamond. There is really not a huge difference between them function wise after you put xboxmods Rhodium on it.

naw... the d2 has a larger screen, more memory, a nicer camera...

Is HTC Diamond a good new Phone to get ?

I been struggling between these new phone, and wondering which is the best to get. I'm leaning toward Diamond since I could get it by tomorrow, but heard many bad things with it's battery life, lack of memory card slot, and such. So can anyone tell me if I should get the Diamond or should I just give it alittle wait for something else ?
HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch HD, Samsung Omnia, IPhone 3G, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Andoid? ......... etc.
Thanks in advance !
The diamond is a decent choice for a new phone, however if you can afford it, hold out for the Touch HD, Xperia, Or Dream/G1.
Those 3 phones will be the most killer handsets to hit the market this year.
Touch Diamond is right below them, still making a great handset. But go with a more powerful device if you can. They become outdated quickly.
The thing with the touch HD is that is is almost exactly the same spec to the touch pro including the same chipset and battery, combined with a massive screen the HD must draw more power, its basic physics and since it uses the same chipset its doubtful it will have much in the way of more power efficency so to the point the battery must be pretty poor compared to a pro.
So Yes the HD sounds great but the battery question needs to be answered first
Diamond in my opinion is a bit to small and the battery is very poor otherwise its very good
Pro is a bit more chunky than the diamond but is actually much the same size as previous generation of phones even with a keyboard its smaller than an O2 Orbit.
Iphone looks nice, and does its job well, but in my opinion its poor quality your very limited in what you can do with it and i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole due to its big brother style atitude to software, music and phone contract.
the other two i have no experiece with so cant really comment, for me im going to see how i like the Pro when O2 releases it, hopefully the question on HD battery life can be answered by then, then i can make my mind up.
As stated above, wait for the last models of 2008:
Omnia, HD, G1, Xperia
And after that you can make your choice
Diamond is not bad, but there are much better models
Depends on how much you want to spend.............
Diamonds are forever!
I know people go on about the Diamonds' battery life, but considering the power and size of this little device, I wouldn't consider it useless!
I get a good two days use out of mine... a few calls, loads of internet browsing, WiFi use, games, and music via a bluetooth headset. I really don't think that's bad. Let's face it, the only phones that last a week on one charge these days are feeble lack-lustre, brick sized devices.
Another point to remember is that because the TF3D interface is sooo much fun to play with, people are probably using their Diamonds' a whole lot more than their previous devices, therefore giving the impression that the battery life is poor.
The Touch HD does look good, but remember it's bigger and will be more power hungry! I think the Diamond is the best in it's class... best size... best specs... best TFT... I LOVE IT!!!
I was researching the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro; But I have now pre-ordered the HTC Touch HD due to it's spec's & state-of-art design!

My Orbit can last up to ~8 hours using its GPS on a standard 1250 battery
HTC Touch Diamond according to HTC, will last 2 hours, even taking in to account battery sizes, the diamond isnt very power economical.
But your right, dont use the GPS and the phone isnt to bad, indeed it would probably last as long as my orbit so in that respect it does a a good job, the problem with that way of thinking is if i leave it on my desk in standby and never use it at all it will last for a week or more
but seriously its a great little PDA and if size is important than thats a winner, if high usability is, than perhaps its not the phone for you.

Thats a bold thing to do, unreviewed, unproven apart from a couple of vids an a few snaps, ignoring the bigger screen and the better camera that the HD has and the keyboard that the Pro has they are identical i believe, oh not forgetting the 3.5mm jack on the HD.
What im concerned about is the battery on the HD, running that thing may take a lot more juice an the pro wasnt great in the first place.
Thats a bold gamble, one i think i'll wait until the reviews start flying about giving ideas of its good and bad points.
Thank alot for the reply guys !
I have decided just to get the Diamond since it's a decent phone and I could get my hand on it right now. I'll pass on those new phones since they might have the same flaw or even more problems. I'll be a proud owner of Diamond in a few hours.

Should I trade in my Tilt for the New ATT Fuze (touch)

ATT just released the new FUZE ( I guess its the touch pro) so Im debating if I should upgrade from my Tilt.
Is there any pros and cons vrs the Tilt?
I have the Tilt and just bought the Fuze today. So far I am not happy nor impressed by the Fuze.

Why? Is not not better than the Tilt?
Hey,
I had the htc touch and Tilt and Im now using a diamond. The diamond is better by far, the VGA screen, G sensor and the addition of touch flo really make it a joy to use.

Anyone have more info?
Everybody is going to have their own opinion here.
There are issues with both phones, but as different ROMs and Radios come out, it helps both devices.
I just got the Fuze on Friday and I came from a Tilt. The VGA screen on the Fuze is amazing compared to the Tilt (or any QVGA device), but some people might not care that much.
When using a custom ROM, the Fuze blows away the Tilt in responsiveness and speed. The stock ROM was a little laggy, but the custom ROMs are great (and I had a custom ROM on my Tilt too).
Reception is similar with both, but the antenna in the Fuze is on the bottom instead of the top, so you might have to hold the phone differently. I would always get garbled calls on my Tilt and so far I haven't had that at all on my Fuze.
GPS seems to have issues for some on the Fuze, but I'm sure that'll get better as new ROMs and Radios come out. It seems to work fine for me, but I have problems getting a lock indoors where my Tilt worked fine.
The G-Sensor is fun to play with and some of the games that are out, hopefully more will continue to be developed.
The camera seems ALOT better than the Tilt, plus it has a LED flash.
The keyboard buttons are smaller, but I like the keyboard better.
I like TF3D better than Manilla2D.
The Fuze has almost the same thickness as the Tilt, but its shorter and not as wide and feels a little lighter. IMO it feels better in the hand than the Tilt did.
There's no external antenna port on the Fuze...if you need one.
There's fewer buttons on the Fuze, but with the Programs menu in TF3D, I don't really need external buttons.
Depending on how much you can get a Fuze for, you can take my information and make your own judgements if its worth the price or not.
I would go for it. I switched and like it much better. The phone has more abilities, runs faster. The only issues I have had: fingerprints, getting used to the keyboard. Everything else to me is a positive compaired to the tilt. Price wise, I got my fuze for 300 minus the $50 MIR, and sold my tilt for $200, and AT&T screwed up some things with my account so I got an additional $50 taken off my bill. No brainer for me, even if you pay the $50 in the en its worth it for the new features you get.

Do not buy 2nd gen Diamond and Touch Pro 2 Phones

We should not buy their 2nd gen phones which are barely worth the upgrade, not to mention i would not even do an even exchange for the new phone. The only thing they improved was Touchflo which will be ported over.
Seriously give us the same camera but without flash, the TP is the reason i did not buy a separate camera since it took picture pretty decently compared to the non flash Diamond which people say camera was HORRIBLE.
Then HTC understands that no matter which phone is out as long as it is a newer not necessarily better HTC PHONE it will sell. I would hold off till a decent upgrade is up, even you Euro owners as you are probably HTCs main customers.
This would not go over in the Desktop/ Notebook area or even the camera area. So we shall not allow it to go over in the PDA phone area. Would you buy a brand spankin new dell with a Pentium 4 with new casing and some fancy bells and whistles? If yes then i recommend you seek help.
Intel however DID do something smart, yes they now release a seemingly slower 1200mhz and 1600mhz chips BUT with newer technology which is so suited actually alot faster than my older Pentium 4 3Ghz pc. Not to mention it only uses abou 20 watts of power and gives 8hr battery life, compared to the usual 2 to 3hr.
Imagine if they put that in next gen phones along with win 7.
Well i kinda agree.. they haven't upgrade any of the spesifications (without the camera for diamond2).. still qualcomm and so forth.. well tf3d will be ported over as oon as devs get their hands on any roms and so forth.. well i must say that i'm a little dissappointed .. well the touch pro2 do look very very good when it comes to the tilt feature.. both phones do have larger screens.. which makes it (maybe) possibley easier to port over se xperia features like panels and so forth.. (well not that i care about panels).. well we just need to see some more reviews.. but i am a little dissapointed when it comes to specs..
All they have done is re-case the TP and slide the keyboard up. I certainly wont be buying the new TP 2. Not for that money anyway. i will stick with my TP.
im kinda worried they will have trouble porting the new tf3d since they are wvga now and we still dont have panels on our vga devices but hopefully the wonderful devs can make it work cuz landscape tf3d on the new ones looks so nice

What ????? My contract with AT$T ( for my Tilt ) is up in April and I am on the new TP II/ Fuze II as fast as they can say, $199 and a new 2yr contract.
Phones, like computers, do not get upgraded every year, every two years or so for me. I don't think that HTC expects everyone who bought a TP or Diamond last summer to run out and buy a new TP II or Diamond II , but I do think that these phones are aimed towards those of us who bought Tilts in fall 2007. After months of " sorry, we've moved on " by many of our Kaiser brethren, it will be great to flaunt my new TP II with my new " tilt " screen.
My friends and I think that the recession is why this phone came out. Same parts, nothing much changed, but charging more money. That's my theory anyway.
And no, I don't want it. Bigger screen without a beefier processor. Terrible Gimped Keyboard. No Flash. No front D-Pad. Nothing I want there.
Also I got my Fuze in November, and AT&T sure as hell wouldn't let me get a new phone so soon. American Contracts are stupid, but so is the price of phones without a contract.

i'm with you on this, main reason i didnt get a fuze is because i love my tilting screen. this provides me the fuze+tilt so i'm buying it day one att gets it.
same reason that I could care less about the extra features. Battery life is worse.
Only thing I like is the tilting screen, the integrated tf3d is awesome though, and the better resolution screen. That's it. No flash, no better camera, no wm6.5, no better ram or processor, etc. I hate the look of the keyboard.

HTC have said they'll provide WM6.5 ROM updates to both the TP2 and the Diamond2.
The Diamond2 is a smaller version of the Blackstone, and the TP2 is the love child of the TP and a Blackstone.
I got a Diamond last time round, and will probably be getting a TP2 this year for the tilty goodness and the gorgeous looking screen.
Okay I agree with some points like:
1. if you can put a 5 MP cam in the Diamond 2 why not in the Touch Pro 2?? There is even more room for it! Furthermore I saw somebody wrote that they took away the cam on the front, dude, check your eyes, the cam is still there man! Furthermore it has FM radio, read somewhere that somebody complained it didn't, well it has!
2. The rest of the features are a little the same, conference mode is cool and also the speaker phone option, nice for handsfree calling...
3. I love the fact is has a bigger screen! Great for navigating in the car, browsing etc....
4. I agree that maybe this model is aimed for those who purchased or got a Tilt in the summer/fall 2007 and who's contract is expiring this summer/fall which might explain why this model has a tilted screen feature. I really loved this feature and really miss it with my Touch Pro!
5. The design I find is awesome, it gets a 10 from me, face it guys, stop winding, they delivered on the design part! Especially the weight has been reduced as well as the thickness, its just awesome, give the people some credit at the design department will you?!
I traded my Tilt for a Touch Pro last Christmas, so since my contract is ending in the fall (after 2 years), I will surely get this phone, and take a 1 year contract with it just in case they come with a newer model next year that totally blasts away this one! I guess the model of next year will have:
- a better processor 1 ghz or higher for example
- 1 GB ram and 512 or more MB ROM ?
- same screen I guess, WVGA is awesome man!
- 5 MP camera
- I hope they keep the tilt screen feature....
- I like the new TouchFLO3D as well, awesome!
- for the rest, I'm contented with the features, just needs more power!
Furthermore, dudes, to be honest with you, WM 6.5 looks disgusting!!!! When I saw it it almost made me hurl! I will wait for WM 7 and bypass 6.5.... they can't be seriously contemplating on bringing that fugly OS system man!
This was just my 2 cents on the matter, so I will be getting this phone come fall!
We may be looking at capacitive touch screens on these devices. That and the tilt feature on the TP2 will probably have me upgrading....
Is it just me or do you guys find the new Diamond and Touch Pro's kinda ugly compared to the current ones?! :O The metal casing and round corners turn me off, I love the look of the current Diamond and TP, they look more clean and streamlined with the flat black plastic and squarish corners. And there's no D-pad
Also the new TP is freaking HUGE, its almost like carrying a UMPC in your pocket.

Sure beats carrying both a laptop and a phone. I, believe it or not, think the fuze is too small, considering the weight. I was more comfortable holding my tilt than the fuze. I liked the "tilt" of the screen, also. No d-pad? I got over that with my omnia. I'll miss having the flash, though-- no htorch!

Yes indeed it does beat carrying two devices, but the fact that its a phone and not a laptop is what really bothers me about the size, although the TP isnt all that much smaller (well I just contradicted myself, didnt I ). But I do know what you mean about the Tilt being more comfortable, I also prefer phones that fit in my hand, thats why I hate such phones as the Motorola Razr, its just too dang skinny. Thats why I still favor my ETEN M600 over most 'normal' phones.
Maybe not having a D-pad is just one those things that you have to get used I guess, like you did with the Omnia, but Id still like to have a D-pad
Are you people under four feet? The Fuze feels nice in my hands. It's solid, it's built well, it's uniform in colour and design (especially with a black theme) and it's not flimsy in the slightest. I can feel it in my pocket too.
Now, I would like a larger screen, but everything else on the TP2 is not pretty looking. Also AT&T doesn't have 1 year plans.

In Holland we can choose between a 1 or 2 year contract, the difference is, with a 2 year you get it for free, with a 1 year you have pay a minimal amount... If in 2010 they come with a newer version with higher specs, then you have the choice to upgrade. I too feel that although the current TP is solid, compact etc. its a lot smaller than the kaiser/tilt and that did feel better in the hand. They can't please everyone but I do fine the design a lot better, but thats personal....
I was just looking at the TP2 on the HTC website, thinking that maybe or at least the processor speed was upgraded, but nothing. Not even the memory capacity. The only upgrade that I see is just the look of it, the "outside". So I guess I will agree on not getting one until they actually come with a better (not only looking), faster, bigger capacity and newer technology phone. Then I'll think about spending few hundred dollars on a new one.

Eris vs Imagio

So, I am looking to get a new phone in the coming month and it has come down to the Eris and the Imagio. Both of which are going for 100 bucks on my carrier so price is not a factor.
What is a factor to me is the screen(not the size, but color, quality/durability & responsiveness), call quality, audio/speaker quality, battery life, and durability. Which one of these is better/averaged out better in these categories? Which is the faster, more enjoyable device?
I understand OS plays a factors, but I am open to both really. I have a WM 6.1 device right now so I am find with WM, but Android is the new kid on the block and kind of interested in using it. I don't use much software on WM other than Opera Mobile/Mini(use both based on what I need to do), SPB, reg hacking and MS Office Mobile. I would think there are viable replacement for most of these? But, then comes the fact that when I last used touchflow 3D, I wasn't too fond of it. And the newer Sense on the Touch HD2 improves that but still it feels a bit chunky in my mind. Is the Sense UI on Android similar or is it much better? I would think Android 2.0 would make the Eris better, and that WM6.5.2(1?) will also bring some minor but better improvements? So, any ideas?
Thank you.
bump please?

I was looking for user opinions and thoughts as that site won't tell me which one has the better quality screen or which feels better to use.
Of the two which has the better on-screen keyboard?
About a week ago I was looking at the same two devices [Imagio Vs. Eris] and debating which one to get, as I was switching from T-mobile over to Verizon. I ended up going with the Eris because it seems to be more responsive, the on-screen keyboard is MUCH better on the Eris in my opinion, and it feels nicer in your palm. I would suggest going to a Verizon store and Trying both working display models, if you haven't done so already to really see which one you like better. I am too, a long time fan of WM and I think you can do a lot more with WM because it's easier to hack, simply because it's been around much longer.
Valid point of WM being around more. Which did you think felt more durable? And which screen did you find more accurate? I would go in store but the closest one to me only had display models of both. Also, was is easy transferring your text from your WM phone to the Eris? Thanks.

I believe that both phones were equal in accuracy although the Eris was a tiny bit quicker. The Eris actually has a backing and most of the body, made of material that feels like it has a case [non-slip material], making it feel more secure in your hand, vs. just being more plastic feeling. I still invested in a case and screen protector though. And what specifically do you mean by "transferring your text?".
Anyway you can compare the battery size of the Eris to the HTC Hero from sprint? Seeing as the Hero has a slightly larger battery?
the Hero has a larger battery and lasts a little while longer then the eris.
I know that but will that larger battery fit the Eris?
get the Eris, it has the super trackball which i dont think the imagio has. this is really helpful, I wish my TP2 had one.
I am indifferent to it. However the Imagio is now off my list and replaced with the upcoming Omnia II. I like the fact it has 8gb built in plus and microSD card slot, but at 200 its a bit much. Then there is the Eris with Android, which has a good future(unlike the Omnia where it won't get WM7) and its got a beautiful price of $100. Then I keep reading AMOLED on the Omnia II is fantastic, but the Eris has they better on screen keyboard. Damn having two good choices.

lol great reason to get a phone... you realise those actually fall out of a lot of phones after some use? btw definatly look at battery reviews... the Eris is horrible on battery life i can get 2 days worth out of my imagio, and the eris is said it cant even get half a day with hard use like internet youtube, music.. etc which the imagio can.. they have the same specs accept for android basically... honestly i looked into both phones and tested them.. imagio is un comparable. The android interface is stylish but FYI once imagio is unlocked it is HIGHLY likely an android port or something will be made like the HTC Blackstone has one being made for it.. so you can kill two birds with one stone, great battery, performance and looks.
Valid point, but since the Omnia II now has an official date its between the Omnia II and the Eris for me. As mentioned the Sprint Hero has a larger battery, so if it's possible to use the Sprint Hero battery on the Eris, battery life should improve a bit.
Well I looked around a bit and turns out the Euro Hero battery fits but not worth it as its only a 50mah larger. The Sprint Hero battery works, but the battery cover does not fit over, hence a larger battery cover.

Tera Vs TP2 (Rhodium)

Hi All,
I went to the shop today looking for a new phone, originally it was to be the HD2, but the phone is just way too big for my liking.
I am now back to square one as I held back getting the Rhodium thinking the HD2 would be the one for me.
I have now see the Tera and was wondering if it is worth the wait, and if it is technically better. (I don't mind the smaller screen in comparison to the Rhodium)
Please could you guys advise me.
Cheers,
Jason

I personally would not go for a screen smaller than 3.5" so I prefer Rhodium
Tera pros: 3.6mm, a slightly better processor, but other than that they are almost the same.
Rhodium for me
Get the TP2 or the HD2 depending on your keyb pref. See there respective sections for all the scoop!
i perfer tp2 since i am using video call and second camera is needed.

cheers for that, its very useful
There is no front camera on the Tera? Hmmm, but I dont use 3G calls anyways.
The slightly better processor is the only thing that's keeping me waiting right now.
I also prefer that the Tera is smaller.
Do you think it will be noticeable.
Also do you think there will be a large price premium when it comes out? TP2 has dropped a lot in price now and is a good excuse to get one.
Glad to know it helped
Well all devices when first launched are high priced, then comes a new model and prices go down, that is the way this days...
And everyday faster the "old" devices go down, even if they don´t have a year
I´ll stay with Rhodium (I payed a fair price back in october) till something really really good and a great improvement then I´ll go for it!
Perhaps a Touch Pro 3 in 2011
Hey again,
I'm pretty much on the verge of buying a TP2 now. Bidding on eBay waiting for the right price.
Any last remarks about why I should wait for the Tera? (I'm bidding really low haha)
How superior is the HD2 compared to the TP2? Will you be able to run ROM's like the HD2 on the TP2?
Thanks!
Also check Marketplace, there are a couple of Rhodiums there in a fair price
As said before I would go for Rhodium, Tera is not for me really.
Leo is better in processor and size screen, have a look on pdadb.com to see a full specs comparative.
That will depend if you need a hardware keyboard or not
Good luck and let us know what you´ve got
