[Resolved] WKtask on WM6.5: Start menu close issue - General Questions and Answers

Did anyone found a fix or work-around to the closing of the wm6.5 start menu with wktask?
I'm using the TODAY shortcut myself, because if we close it on wktask... it remains closed until a reset is done.
I want to add it to the exception list, buts is not a EXE file.
Thanks.

i dont think i can help to much... but if its not an exe do you know what it is? i dont think it is built into task bar...... i think i read somewhere someone said it WAS an exe..... could be mistaken though

I looked thru the registry and the Windows folder, all I found was startkey.exe, but its related to the keyboard only...

a workaround
if you set the ok/x button to minimize when tapping in the wktask options and use htc task manager in the options to close with x button when tapping, it will work like you want it to.

will try that, thanks.

Nop, doesnt work... Works fine on close, but on "OK" (like in the settings) it minimizes and never accepts the new changes.
I can still add a new action on WKTask to close on drag (and so accept the OK button), but thats even harder to use than the simple press on today to close the start menu. :/

In my case I use the Quick Menu to close the programs, such as Task Manager, but when you click on the Quick Menu screen appears but the set up to load the key on the phone and open the Start Menu of Windows!
I use a P3600 (trinity)

Thanks, but I got confused on both languages, lol...
So, if I understood correcly, you use the default start menu on simple press, but you press and hold so that quickmenu appears to close the open applications in its task manager option?

After some coffe I finally understood...lol.
You use quickmenu and have a hardware button to open the default start menu.
I still find my work-around easier, would prefer a real fix, of course. :/

Just add to the WKtask exclusion list (with the "dont close" option checked) these taskbar names:
Start
Settings
Connections
Personal
System
Games
(and any other folder names you may have)

im having trouble making the taskbar transparent, for when u use a picture photo as wallpaper 6.5 makes the taskbar transparent.tried all the custom colors but didnt work..any ideas?

As far as I know the program has no way of doing that, remenber that it was made long before WM6.5...
Maybe they will add that option on a future version.
The best I got was choosing the colors as close as possible to the theme's colors.

maybe by ripping the file of the stock 6.5 taskbar somehow and overwriting it in to the wktask bars file...

Not likely, it doesnt use any image, only hexa color codes to make that degradê...

nice find twolf, that was bugging me.
I've been trying different window classes in wktask all day..

that sux i may need to ditch wktask which also sux b/c i need a good task manager like it to get around my open apps

Very sad to see it doesn't blend with the skin. WinMo has become frustrating again for me...

with wktask getting problem with the new graphics of WM 6.5, I am force to leave it for HTC task manager. Anyone faced problem with tab not getting similar backgrounds & thus giving ugly looks. Would appreciate if someone comes out his or her experience.

In need of a special task manager to my PDA..

Okey.
I got a Qtek S100 (or Magican, as you call it...).
I've been searching around för task managers that fits my needs, including this forum. I've tried the most popular, and some other, but haven't got jackpot yet.
All of the task managers I've tested works like this: Hit an icon with the pen (or finger...) and a menu pops up.
I want to press a hardware button, to make the menu open.
A long time ago I had such a program. I had it on both of my iPAQ models. A 3630, and a 3660.
On these models these program was attatched to the right buttons, se picture:

Any idéas of programs?
Is it not possible for you to remap the buttons, I mapped the camera button on my xda 2 to execute tomtom for instance.
dont waste time trying to map the send/cancel button.
there is no way to map.
i have tried all the whole list of Mapping button program from pocketgear.
none able to do it
probably you want to download a program that has 2 functions in each hardware button
for example.
1. calendar (press one)
1. pocket word (press and hold)
2. contacts (press one)
2. pocket excel (press and hold)
so on...
there u go, you can launch 8 applications
The problem is not to execute a program, that I can do well. The problem is TO OPEN A MENU.
For instance, press a hardware button and the start menu opens...
But, I want a task bar, that I can open it's menu by pressing a hardware button.
the start menu is just like a launcher
i have no idea how to map the start menu to a button
anyway, let calculate the step
using finger to press start menu (only 1 move)
using finger to press hardware button (only 1 move)
since no solution, we have to face it

do you mean iTask??

I found "magic button" to be a useful task switcher - but I don't know a way of using it with the hardware buttons. I also use buttonMax - you can create a macro that taps the start menu and assign the macro to a hardware button. I use "program menu" as my start menu which supports hiararchial menus so you can have access to a large amount of apps using a couple of button presses.
http://www.pocketmax.net/buttonMax.htm
I have already tested before this question is asked.
the only thing that cannot be done (that how i feel), is by configuring the 'send' button to map to a program (such as photos contacts 1.0d)
urh.. this photos contacts is not the built in program, it is an external program

Does this support autocompletion (or autocorrection as the iPhone keyboard software)? If so, in which languages?
The software itself does not support autocompletion, but this functionality is already provided by windows (you get a list with words matching the letters you've typed so far).
I'm also using Happy Tapping Keyboard & have a selection of skins including the iphone. Good application, easy to type with a finger due to it being larger than standard.
Now uploaded to site:
This is fantastic, thanks for your post. So much bigger and easier to use than the default.
Nice !!
Thank you
Where does it come from ? WM6 ?
Finally. A workaround to not being able to skin the WM5 keyboard. Still wish I could skin the default keyboard, tho - but there's never a decert ROM for a device that comes with WM5 by default...
Can someone upload it to 4shared.com, please. Rapidshare is suck.
Thank you!
Just installed it and tested it. Great piece of software. Good bye Resco Keyboard. This make it easier if you want to using your thumb plus it looks great, just like the i-phone. I hope they don't go shut this down too.
Can not get it to load, see it in drop down list, but refuses to activate? Do i need the IM_WM5.CAB? can change between all other choices and Resco Keyboard. Would like to try for one handed smsing. Any help appreciated.

Try a soft reset, a friend had the same problem, he tracked it down to a conflict with another keyboard.

Couldn't assign Windows button using AKU3.3.13.ASERG

After upgrading to AKU3.3.13.ASERG, everything is perfect (fast, responsive, cool) except one thing, windows button assignment.
I can't assign it to other application such as Microsoft Voice command.
I would very much appreciate any help.

I prefer Microsoft Voice command 1.6.

yes
same problem
maybe because of the WIZA200
I have yet to see a ROM post-WM5 aku 2.3 that can change the functions of those bottom 2 keys (Windows and OK button). You would think they could have figured this out by now.
I read before here that since it's based on the Wizard rom and the Wizard doesn't have that two buttons so it doesn't work.
Hmmm...Don't know why I didn't think of that. This should still be made to work, as those 2 buttons were customizable as well on the Wizard. I wonder what the file buttonsext does? I see that it is referred to only once in the registry. Perhaps if we got this file from a Prophet ROM and replace it with the one on these Wizard-based ROMs?
give this tool a try. still beta but i think it run stable.

it search omapclock in windows folder because i have it inside my modded aserg rom ;-)
with SetMaxMem you can save the memorystatus after a reboot for the freeram display in top
if you "speedup" a application altab set your neo to 240Mhz if this app is in foreground
else it set it to 180Mhz
this setting is stored in registry ;-)

Woah! This is fantastic! I think this will be the most useful program if it does what I think it can do. So, you can target specific apps to run at faster speeds? Also, what do the line graphs at the very top represent? I have blue, red, and grey.
And, ta-dah, the buttons 1 and 2 issue has been solved. We can now change the function of button 2 to close apps with a real task manager such as WA2.
Thanks for the great work, and the task switcher is very nice with the end call button.
Do have some sort of documentation or read me for this?
no sorry. no readme till now.
the to lines above. . . look here - > http://pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=23466
in the middle its dark @180mhz and green @240mhz
So, is this altab.exe and compilation of smaller tools? Which tool is able to change the function of the buttons so succesfully?
This is the only one I've found to truly intercept the built-in functions before they execute.
the main function are the buttons/alt-tab and overclocking
the powerstatus display and the regtweaks are integrated small tools
/inteks
How do you overclock with this app, or do you need another app to do this?
Also, is it possible that you could make a version stripped of the status bars at the top? Or, at least give an option to not display it? Thanks....
for overclocking copy this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=255771&highlight=omapclock
to your windows directory.

Great job!
This is great! I used powerstatus, alt-tab and smartskey as my favourite tools (simple, very small memory usage). And i defnitely missed the possibility to assign buttons 1 and 2.
And now we have it all together.
I'll test an submit my experiences
Test results
I installed it (shortlink in windows\startup folder) and tested it a couple of days an it worked great (24kb ram, volume-button scrolling works better as in Smartskey). I have found 2 minor things:
1. Closing windows settings menu by doublepresssing the endCall button closes the shell, which results in softreset. Minor problem, ok-button works.
2. Left softbutton function is not catched by all programs. For instance, "Unlock" softbutton does not work. Minor problem, touchscreen does. Same with Total Commander.
Third is that my phone seems to crash more often than before, but I can't tell for sure it's your tool.
I have one question: The file is quite big (1,5 MB). What causes the size? Smartskey, Alt-tab and Powerstatus are very small, so the only thing left to explain te size is te capturing of buttons 1 and 2. If would be wellcome if it could be made smaller. Is that possible?
But even with this size it's great anyway.
Prophet G4
Aserg 3.3.13 rom
Radio 02.61.21
This app has fantastic functionality, but for whatever reason, it burdens my device running WA2. It's especially noticeable with the start menu appearing and other menus. Not too sure what the problem is, given that the app has such a small footprint.
hiho,
@2241Alexanders
jo, my mistake. . . i uploaded the debug version (size) the release version is 150Kb normaly, sorry.
i will upload a "release" version after i fixed the "closed shell" bug
what do you mean with "Unlock softbutton" ??
[edit] if you want the "hard" softkey to work you have to leave the "SoftKey L" in Setting on "<Left SoftKey>" . . .
i dont think that atTab causes the crashes ? no problems here
the programm does nothing until you press a button. (hook)
the powerstatus runs on an diffrent timer with 2sec interval (same as orginal powerstatus)
and every 5 sec the programm checks the foreground window and start omapclock if needed.
@floepie
what is "WA2" ??
btw with "task manager" (included in aserg's rom) you can check CPU usage of each program. alTab use 0.09-0.27% on my device @180MHz. most of this cpu time is used for powerstatus. without powerstatus its @0.00% most of time
(the "old" powerstatus.exe use 1.83-2.29% CPU time)

Wow! Very helpful utility! That's what I've been looking for since my Prophet ROM upgrade, as I really needed those two lost buttons!
Thank you very much, inteks!
But I have some suggestions.
Would it be possible to make the buttons used by the program customizable? Like the EndCall button, which now opens the task switcher - without alTab that button switches to the Today screen, and I'm really missing this feature.
Actually personally I would even disable the task switcher in alTab completely if it had such an option, as I don't really need another task manager - I prefer the way how AltTab.exe works: it shows a window with the icons, sets the focus to the previously used application, and if you just wait a second, it switches to it - very similar to how Alt-Tab key combo works in Windows. I really like that!
If the button, which opens the main alTab window (task manager) will be optional, and could be disabled, I guess the main window should show up just when the application starts. BTW, this will allow to easily assign the task switcher to any other button using the standard system Buttons control panel.
Additional actions, which can be assigned for the held soft buttons, is also a very useful feature! Is it possible to add such "Hold" commands for the hard buttons as well? "Button 4(Hold)" is standard, and assignable, but it would be nice to have the same for buttons 1-3 too.
Thanks!

new -> it shows icons for the windows in the list.

without atTab the "ok" button switch to desktop, too so the red button is useless but for end calls.
thats why i select this as main button for alTab.

iPhone Style App-Launcher? (Flip Apps before opening - like left or right in cube)

Is there an extention for windows mobile or the touch function which launches applications in iphone style with a flip or spin?
My brand new TouchCruise did this once but I don't know why and where.. i think it was in the settings of "HTC Audio Verstärker" (could be "HTC frequency amplifier" or something in englisch version).
Greetz.
Hello!
Maybe you're talking about TouchFlo that is in the HTC Touch.
To activate it, just slide your finger from the bottom (near the HTC logo)
to the middle of the screen. You'll get the 3D cube with icons
I'm not talking about the cube.
The Application flipped like Alt+Tab at Vista.
It rotated fliped away an the next manu came but after hardreset because of tomtom i can't find out what it was but I want to have this for every Application.
Try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369241
Thanks but i don't mean an iPhone lookalike App-Launcher I mean an extencion or something which flips the Applications before starting like in Vista oder Ubuntu or if you go left or right on the Touch Cube.

I understand and am looking for the same thing. All I'd like to be able to do is swipe across the screen (Touch gesture same as used to flip from side to side of TouchFlo cube) in order to switch between active applications.
With the HTC Task Switcher being only available from the Today screen, it takes too many taps to be able to switch from one open application to another. I know that many applications already use the sideways gesture, so a task switcher may first need to be invoked by tap or button press before the gesture is accepted as a command to swap apps.
Is there something out there that makes it simple to switch from one open app to another without having to go to Today screen first?
Try this.

Thanks. I found the AltTab thread in the forums and installed the application. It is a perfect solution for me on my Touch Cruise. Programmed it to the VoiceDial button. Thanks again!
I tried dynamo, but there are some problems.
It keeps showing a duplicate screenshot. Either this is a program that is not running, or it is just plain the wrong screenshot.
Anybody have the same trouble (and found a solution) ?
I use Spb pocket plus, close button mod
It comes with aload of other stuff that i dont use but this function is ace.
Close Button. The standard behavior of Windows Mobile is to minimize the application when the X-button is tapped. That means the application will not be closed and it will stay in the background memory of your Windows Mobile device. Speed up your Pocket PC by closing running programs that takes up a lot of memory. Applications can really be closed with only one tap on the X-button. In addition, task manager menu will appear if you tap-and-hold on X-button. With the task manager you can easily switch between all active applications.

I use SPB PocketPlus since a long time (WM2003SE I think) and the AltTab is on my HTC HomePlugin Launcher but it hasn't this cool Flip mode.
I found where I saw this Flip!! You find this function in the settings of WiFiFoFum!
@MrSmith22: Because of PocketUI I want to have this in Sunrise Touchscreen because I like my Interface with SunriseTheme+TouchFLO+Home Plugin+PocktPlus much more than the "simple" PocketUI Design but the Flip is great!

Does anybody know a simple registry tweak to remove this boring Title Bar List in the new WM 6.5.3 upper taskbar?
Thank you

Dear Friends,
Same here. Hope someone finds a registry trick for that... Lets wait...
Best Reagrds...
Same "problem" here. If you install wisbar advance some buttons work, but others will show up this stupid menu
Use Taskbar Launcher to redefine what will be launched by tapping the taskbar. (You can define it for 3 regions: left, center and right) I suggest you set the left and right regions to 0 (nothing will be launched) and the center to launch the notificationmanager
I'm not with a wm6.5.x rom for now, but i think it has something to do with magnifier no ?
Try this : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\MAGNIFIER]
"Enable"=dword:0
Or maybe in Bsbtweaks : HTC Magnifier line
i hate the "TitleBarList" but i did not found anything under registry to remove it ...so, i'm back to wm6.5

Click to collapse
That's the only reason?! Again, may I suggest taskbar launcher (you get some extra goodies with it too. Wonderfull program)

not the only.. the other reason i wrote it under "position fix wm 6.5.x" :
i have trouble with wm6.5.x when installing programs... i tried to install pocket player 5.3.5.. when finished the installation, have to press OK button in the right angle, on top, but is not visible (hidden under the small clock) and can not touch it, as there is the titlebarlist from wm6.5.x (an other thing that i hate) .. or other programs have a button to the right corner, to the bottom, hidden by the large bottom bar.. it is any solution to automaticaly resize the windows of the programs to the size of wm6.5.x ?
Yes the ok button on the top right corner does not work anymore with 6.5.3. I reallydoubt that removing the titlebar will fix the OK button problem.
Here is a very simple fix: you will find that with this kind of app, the physical "back arrow" button of you HD2 does the trick...
that one was just an example of one software that i remember the position of the buttons from previous installation... but when i install new programs, always the trick with back arrow does the trick, even if the button is, for example, at the bottom ?
From what I know, there are two different way to close apps depending on how it has been coded.
The first type is the "cross button" that is top right on 6.5. For this type of the cross is on bottom right of the screen with 6.5.x.
The second type is the "ok button" that used to be on top right of the screen. These apps are generally old ones with WM6 menu style. For some reason (I guess MFC calls have been modified on 6.5.x) the ok button does not appear anymore and the cross button does not appear. For these apps, pressing the physical "back arrow" button works.
I do not know any application with a close button at the bottom. If this is the case, it is a non-standard MFC call and the button should be there even with 6.5.x. Post a picture if you have one to understand the issue you have.
sorry, but i don't have anymore wm6.5.x.. i'm back to wm6.5 (dutty 2.3).. i am still waiting an solution to get back the top right OK and to remove the top titlebar(for this one i understood that was told by appelfap)
any mod to remove the top right clock? maybe in this way the OK became visible?
yes, this Titlebarlist is really annoying. A better work-around as using this taskbar launcher (which looks 2 ugly for me - sorry!) is Arkswitch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618300
and the Dust skin
Then go to Menu -> Activation Field and boost the field from top left to right until the beginning of the clock... et voilà: no Titlebar if you tap on the Taskbar.
Also advantage with this solution: You can use a skinned alterantive Taskbar like this from MysticGenius...
Perhaps someone knows how to cook-out these Titlebar from the WM6.5.3 SYS???
